Meet Seigey in BlogOut!

What is BlogOut?
Following on Nexus 2007, The Digital Movement is taking one step further by having a gathering of various communities and pockets of bloggers to get to know each other! We at BlogDrive Templates acknowledges their efforts and want to allow these different communities to know each other, in particular, the smaller groups, and allow them to bond with each other. This will lead to a blogosphere with stronger social fabric!

Program Details: (FREE food, drinks and wine served!)

Date: 24th May, 2007, Thursday
Geek Terminal, 55 Market Street, Singapore

7pm - 7.30 pm : Bloggers' Spot + Grub
Grab a bite and get to know 3 featured bloggers, one of whom is Genie (the blogger who sings and blogs)
We would like your suggestions on the other 2 bloggers that you would like to see/ hear from.
Rest assured, this is not a "blogger-worship" event. We just thought it would be fun to hear from some bloggers, and get to know them a bit better. So let us know who you would like to know more about...

7.30 pm - 9.00 pm: BlogOut Cafe
Based on the concept of The World Cafe (www.theworldcafe.com) , this will be a set of short roundtable discussions that will take place simultaneously helping us all to get to know each other better while we share perspectives about issues and topics that matter.

The idea is that each table will have about 7 people and a theme/ topic to talk about. They will have paper as table cloths and ideas can be drawn and scribbled on the "tablecloths" and you can leave "marks" for others who will table hop.

Everyone will spend a pre-designated time (say 10 mins) at each table before moving on to the next table+theme combination - where they will get to know other attendees and exchange more ideas.

9.00 pm - 10.00 pm
Free and Easy networking session.

For some time now, my friends and colleagues have been requesting the ability to add icons or links of social networking/bookmarking websites automatically with the appropriate Blog Title and Permalinks. John (JfZ) attempted something similar, though the focus was on tagging entries - another feature we've all been hoping Blogdrive would one day support.

Why Sociable? Sociable is a set of icons and links to popular third party social bookmarking and networking services. These would include: Mini-MEditor, del.icio.us, co.mments, Google Blog Search, Technorati, your blog RSS Feed and any other services which you'd like to add.

How does this help you? Aesthetically, the icons are cute and they break up the monotony of your text. But the real purpose is to help your blog gain the publicity and readership it deserves by making reading and sharing your blog more convenient and easy. As the Blogoshpere develops and evolves, these icons will become more recognizable, making your blog part of the cutting edge of Blogging.

Here are the codes. To install, go to "Layout & Design -> Main Template Edit", look for the blogdrive tag [body] and insert the codes right after it.

Blog This! Blog That! is a link to the Mini-MEditor that allows readers to blog in response, or in inspiration, of an entry. The service automatically includes the permalink to the original entry and the title of the original entry in the newly created response post. Also, if any text was highlighted before clicking the link, it will be copied and pasted into the newly created entry.

del.icio.us is a social bookmarking website. It not only helps you manage your bookmarks online, but it also allow you to share them with others. You can share your bookmarks with me here.

co.mments helps you stay on top of the conversation by keeping you updated of new comments. Either on a blog you have commented or would just like to know whats talked about. All you need to do is just bookmark, track and follow. Simple! (currently, it doesn't support Blogdrive yet)

Google Blog Search has got to be one of the best blog search engine out there, much better than Technorati in terms of indexing. This link helps you know who links to your blog entry.

Technorati is similar to Google Blog Search although it tends to have problem differentiatin spam blogs and real blogs. It's useful nevetheless.

RSS Feed is your blog XML feed. It's one of the most useful way to get your blog published and syndicated. Hence it's always helpful to include a link there. JfZ wrote an article here about Blogdrive Feeds, it's worth a read.

The great thing about Sociable is that you may insert more third party blogging services if you want. If you know a thing or two about Javascript, you can edit them on your own. Here's the format

* for unwanted columns, just leave an empty string "".
*for URL that requires entry specific data such as Blog Title and Permalink (or even Post ID): use BLOGTITLE, PERMALINK and PID (all in caps) as tags.
* Small reminder: don't forget the opening and closing bracket and quotes

Google Sitemap Generator for Blogdrive

As some of you may have already known, Google now allows you to add your website or Blog to thier new Sitemap programme and this may get your site better indexed with their service.

This would benefit you if you wants to get your blog indexed by Google, the most advanced search engine available. Google also allows you to monitor how well your blog is indexed by their service.

Here is a screenshot of what it looks like and you can catch a glimpse of what you are able to do with the data:

If you have a Google account, you can easily get started by logging in here and add your site. Here, I include a step by step instruction along with a Sitemap Generator I build just for Blogdrive blogs. See how much I care for you guys?

Once you are logged in the first thing you need to do is Add site.
Next, Verify your site. When prompt to "Choose verification method...", select "Add a META tag". You'll be given some codes that looks like this:

Insert these codes to the <head> section of your main template (Blog Admin --> Layout & Design --> Main Template Edit). Once this is done, you will be verified as the real blog owner and you can start managing your data.
The fun doesn't stop there, you can Add a Sitemap to this blog. Use this generator to generate the XML codes for your sitemap. blogurl refers to the your blog url, and pid refers to the total number of post you have created. To find out what your pid is, go to your blog and look at the last comment url, at the end of the url is a number.

Copy this code on to a text editor such as Notepad and save the file as "sitemap.jpg". Because the majority of you are using free accounts you aren't allowed to upload any files that aren't images. Hence instead of naming the document as "sitemap.xml" we save it as "sitemap.jpg".

Upload this file to your Blogdrive account under "File Manager". You'll get a URL like http://design.blogdrive.com/sitemap.jpg. Submit this to Google and you're done!
To let Google know of any future updates you have on your blog, you should add your RSS feed as another sitemap. Eg. http://design.blogdrive.com/index.xml This means you don't have to repeat all this process when you update your blog. Google will automatically collect information from your RSS feed.

Two years after the events in "Final Fantasy VII", a disease called 'Seikon-Shoukougun', or 'Geostigma', is spreading through the planet. Guilt-ridden and haunted by his past, ex-SOLDIER Cloud Strife has decided to live a secluded, solitary life away from his friends while maintaining "Strife's Delivery Service", whose headquarters is located in Tifa Lockheart's bar, the Seventh Heaven. Tifa's bar serves as an orphanage for children stricken with Geostigma. Here, Tifa keeps an eye on Barret's six-year-old daughter, Marlene, while Barret searches the planet for an alternative energy source to the Planet's energy, Mako. One day, Cloud receives a phone call from the former Shinra, Inc. president, Rufus, asking him for protection from a mysterious man named Kadaj. Kadaj, in the meantime, along with his brothers Loz and Yazoo, are searching for their "mother", and seem to believe that Cloud knows where to find her. Meanwhile, Vincent Valentine has been wandering the planet gathering information on Kadaj's scheme, and Cloud and his friends must come together again to fight these new enemies.

<p>Imagine a world in which Alchemy is not only possible, but used frequently. Alchemy, though, is a science, and with all sciences there
are laws that must be followed. Welcome to the anime, Full Metal Alchemist. The story begins about two brothers, Alphonse and
Edward Elric. Ever since they were young they had practiced the science of alchemy. You follow their journey of being alchemists
and their quest to regain that which they have lost. Their father was a well recognized alchemist, which is probably where their knack
for it comes from. However, when they were young their father left, and they remained in the care of their mother. One day their mother
died, and in their innocence and ignorance, they attempted what was forbidden, human alchemy. What happened next, they were obviously
not prepared for, and in the aftermath the brothers lost more than just their mother. In the freak accident Alphonse loses his body,
and in a moment of panic Edward ties his brother's soul to a piece of armor. Edward himself loses an arm and a leg, a costly reminder
of what has happend. The story begins and details the brother's journey to find a alchemy amplifier so that they may return to their

How to edit an old entry using Plain Text Editor?

The new WYSIWYG editor proofs to be a wonderful success to most people. However this new upgrade somehow lead to the downgrade or rather "disability" of the Plain Text Editor.

Most people wouldn't need the Plain Text Editor but some advanced users can't blog without using it. The Plain Text Editor allows certain useful features such as inserting scripts, musics, videos and others nifty stuff into the HTML source instead of having it removed automatically by the WYSIWYG editor.

The biggest problem with the current PTE (as described by many people) is that when editing their older entries using Plain Text Editor, the dates of entry automatically changes to the current time instead of the posting date. What's worst is that we can't edit the entry dates.

So, some of us decided to make life easier for everyone by creating our own fixes. Here are two of the fixes:

Greasemonkey PTE Fixer by Xr:

This fix requires that you have two things: Firefox Browser and Greasemonkey Firefox Extension. If you are familiar with Greasemonkey and uses it often, this is definitely recommended. You can download the script here. Thanks to Xr who also owns a photoblog here on Blogdrive.

Plain Text Editor by design.blogdrive.com:

This fix doesn't require any plug-ins or downloads but it isn't able to call up anything from the Blogdrive database. This means you'll have to copy and paste everything from your entry source code before editing. Here are some simple steps to help you better understand it:

1) To edit an old entry, go to your "edit entry page". To make things easier, open two windows of your "edit entry page".

2) On one of the windows, go to the top URL location bar and change the "www" part of the URL to "design"
For example:

3) Now, copy and paste everything (Title, Date and Time, Entry Content) from the other opened "edit entry page" to this one. You'll see that the Blog ID (BID) and Post ID (PID) are automatically filled in for you.

4) Edit your entry and Publish.

Updates 17/3/06: Apparently, the BD admin must have seen this fix I did because they quickly released a fix. That's good news to everyone including myself. The only bad news is to me because my time and effort were wasted writing this fix. ( I could use some hugs, you know )

Anyway, the fixes now applies to the dates as well as the extended entry and keywords. But the Amazon affiliate programme will not be implemented at all. Oh, and no smilies but that's alright.
