AIGA Portfolio Review

On April 6th will be going to the AIGA portfolio. First things first, make sure you've registered online. I noticed this morning that session 2 is sold out already. So go now to register!

We'll leave at 8:00am on that Saturday morning from the Art Parking lot. So, be there at 7:50. We won't have time to wait around.

As for the portfolio, I'm happy to look over your work with you before you go. You'll see many different formats of portfolios: traditional leather/faux leather portfolios, brief-case style, posters mounted to boards, ipads, laptops. If you are using an iPad or laptop make sure that you have a good charge. Also, attempt for a seamless transition from piece to piece (i.e., don't open up the files natively in PS or AI). Take multiple copies of your resumé and business cards. Spell check!

We'll go to lunch together after the portfolio review, so bring some cash if you want to eat. Should be fun!

The program is called the MAP program (My American Parents). I just need something simple to use in advertising. Walter has been hard at work in the Mac Lab getting software up to date. When you return to classes, we should have CS6 and the newest version of the Mac OS.

Design Students, I received this email today about an internship opportunity:

Pipeworks Software is a game design and development company located in Eugene, Oregon. They contacted me looking for programming interns. In the process of sending them students for those positions, they mentioned that they have both art and music internships as well. The music interns will work with other musicians in the company to help compose the scores that will serve as background music in some of their games. The art interns will be asked to create characters, landscapes, concept art, etc. to be used in some of their games. The artwork will be both in sketch form and 3-D modeling.

College Night at OKC Museum of Art

Art students,

If you did not already know, September is College Month at the OKC Museum of Art. During the entire mont of September college students receive free admission if you show your student ID.

However, there is College Night, September 22. OBU's Art Department will be going as a group. If you would like to ride a van, please sign-up in the art building.

I would really like to have a good group go. Not only will it be a fun evening, but it will be a good time for you to network with fellow artists and exchange ideas and contact info.

A "Collective Remembrance"

Tomorrow in chapel, cards will be passed out as you exit--just like the one pictured above. This is an opportunity for us to remember 9-11 in a very creative way. I hope that you will take the time to participate in this project. I want designers and artists to lead in this effort.

We will be collecting these cards and placing them on a wall, in a big collage, this coming Friday in the GC. I'll need your help to watch the booth, and help attach cards to the wall. Stay tuned for a sign-up sheet, or reply here for a slot. I'd like to have it open from 9-4pm on Friday.

I received some exciting news this weekend that one of our recent graduates, Mikki Bell, received a full-time job as a graphic designer in California. It was nice to hear that--even in a highly competitive job market--good jobs are still out there.

You may have noticed that the designatobu.com site is down... well, sort of. This is a regional ISP (internet service provider) issue, not an issue with the actual server or the site itself. So, if you have a phone that has 3G, you should be able to still access the content.
