Job: Web Developer

We are a small interactive design studio seeking a full-time, or contract to full-time, web developer with a passion for clean code. You’ll be helping to create web experiences for our amazing roster of clients – some of the most innovative companies on the web today. You’ll be writing markup and CSS, whipping up JavaScript, and handling some awesome integration work. All in a fun, dynamic studio environment.

* This is an on-site position. Telecommuters need not apply.

You have a passion for the web and technology and you stay on top of web design trends and techniques
You are a self-starter and able to work both in a team and independently
Ability to find the most efficient and effective solutions to technology problems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
A sense of humor

Requirements: The minimum set of skills/needs for this role

Minimum 3 years of development skills creating websites and web applications
Excellent eye for detail
Experience with standards-based coding procedures
A basic knowledge of MVC architecture

Software / Programming:

Deep HTML5, CSS 3, JavaScript experience
Familiarity with haml/sass, coffeescript and jquery
Familiarity with API’s and web services
Familiarity with GIT, server configurations and standard deployment procedures
Standard office-related tools, browsers, etc

Strong Preference for Candidates with the following:

Experience working with Google Analytics
Experience working with Google Website Optimizer (or comparable A/B testing suite)
Mobile Web Experience
CMS experience with standard CMS systems and/or Blogging tools
Experience working with start ups, VCs, engineers and product managers
Experience developing for Social Media and Online Communities

We are a small interactive design studio seeking a talented UX and Web designer to work with a wide variety of clients in a fast-paced environment. You’ll work closely with clients in small teams to define product strategy, brand, and then design a tailor-fitted experience. Many of the projects you’ll face will be iterative and require open thinking and an ability to engage and openly communicate with clients and other team members. You’ll attend meetings, brainstorm, sketch, and document throughout the process and, above all, exhibit your deep understanding of what makes for great user experience design.

You have a passion for user experience design, interface design, and the web in general and you stay on top of web design trends and techniques

Ability to conceptualize and create stunning visual design solutions

Requirements: The minimum set of skills/needs for this role

Minimum 3 years of UX and design skills creating web applications
Excellent eye for design (color, typography, layout, etc.)
Beyond compelling UX and design skills producing web applications, and web sites
Strength in sketching, wireframes, and creating high fidelity prototypes
Proficient with Photoshop, Fireworks, or similar image editing tools
Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and Javascript

Software / Programming:

Wireframing tools: Omnigraffle, Axure, or HTML
Visual Design tools: Photoshop and/or Fireworks
Standard office-related tools, browsers, etc

Strong Preference for Candidates with the following:

Put This on a web cast about men’s fashion. This episode in particular showcases the merits of style, good craftsmanship and local economy. All things that I love, because it’s time for Americans to be producers again… instead of consumers. This was posted in 2010 – but i didn’t see it until 2011… I’m a little slow.

The NYC Highline. Sort of exemplified the tipping point of community outreach, biodiversity and urban renewal. This definitely caused me to start questioning the balance of man and nature and what it means to be working together.

The Amazon Kindle. I love books. I love print. Yet… I rarely buy printed paper books anymore unless they are a keepsake. 2011 was my year of the kindle because I was a big “print” guy, and now I’m not.

I’ve been helping a friend get Creative Mornings going here in Seattle and we held our first event last week. It was a fair amount of work to make this whole thing happen, but fortunately I met the wonderful Bryan Zug and he continues to be instrumental in making our events possible – Thank you VERY much, Bryan.

Brian’s firm, Bootstrapper Studios turned around the cut on our first event’s video in record time and it’s posted here in HD for you to check out. Make sure to mark your calendar for our next event on December 9, 2011 – it’s going to be a lot of fun!

New Position Open: Office Manager

Design Commission is looking for an office manager to help us run a ship-shape-shop. We’re a small, fast-moving, interactive design studio in Pioneer Square with a lot going on – so much, that we need your help to keep everything together.

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

Greet arrivals with a smile and answer incoming calls.
Manage incoming and outgoing mail, and shipments.
Keep kitchen stocked, caffeine flowing and dishes clean.
Maintain office space, keeping it organized and tidy.
Manage regular food and office supply orders.
Run local errands as needed.
Help with any general office work as needed.
Help with customer support for our products (including UIStencils.com and LuxePlates.com)
Pack orders and manage quality control for our products
Assistance with Special Event Planning
Assistance with our Gallery Space (set-up, artist/designer-relations, etc)
Act as liaison to building management, maintenance and related vendors.

Please have the following:

Experience working in an office environment.
Understanding of how to use common office programs and the web
Familiarity with Mac computers
Great spelling, math and typing skills.
References upon request.
Interest in web design, development or social media is a plus.
Interest in copywriting and marketing is also a plus
Desire to jump in and tackle any job no matter how big or how small.
A great attitude!

This is an hourly position requiring 30 hours per week – with pay ranging from $12 – $15/hr depending on experience.
