Your website doesn’t need to be fancy—it just needs to work. But over time, small things get missed: a copyright that still says 2020, a slow-loading homepage, or a “coming soon” testimonial page that never got filled in.

If you’re a chiropractor running a WordPress site, here are five quiet updates that can make a real difference in how patients find—and trust—you online.

1. Your Footer Year

It’s a small thing, but visitors notice. If your site says ©2020 (or earlier), it sends the subtle message that no one’s been maintaining it. You can fix this in seconds or set it to update automatically with a WordPress shortcode.

Why it matters: It builds trust. Patients want to know you’re active and attentive—even in the little things.

2. Your Site’s SSL (the Padlock)

If your site says “Not Secure” in the browser bar, that’s an easy fix. Most modern hosts offer free SSL certificates, but many older WordPress installs haven’t been updated to use them correctly.

Why it matters: Patients might leave your site before reading a word—especially if they’re asked to fill out a form.

3. Slow-Loading Images

WordPress sites often get bogged down with oversized photos—especially staff pictures, header banners, or office images. Compressing images (and using WebP format) can make a big difference in loading speed.

Why it matters: Google rewards fast-loading sites. And on mobile, slow sites lead to high bounce rates.

4. Outdated Content or “Coming Soon” Pages

Pages like “Office Tour” or “Testimonials” are great—unless they’re blank or marked “coming soon.” Most visitors won’t come back later to see if you’ve updated.

Why it matters: A bare page can create doubt. A short paragraph with one or two quotes is better than nothing.

5. Missing Updates (Plugins, Themes, WordPress Core)

Neglected WordPress updates are the #1 cause of security breaches. If your site hasn’t had a plugin or core update in over six months, it’s vulnerable to issues that could be easily prevented.

Why it matters: You probably won’t notice a problem… until the site goes down or gets hacked.

The Good News? You Don’t Need to Fix All This Yourself.

If you’re too busy running your practice to manage plugins, backups, speed, and SEO, I offer a quiet care service just for chiropractors with WordPress sites.

One flat monthly fee. No pressure. Just quiet, reliable help when you need it.

Want to see if your site’s due for a tune-up?
I’ll run a free 1-page audit—no strings. Reach out here.

You don’t need a subscription to a fancy keyword tool to do good local SEO.

In fact, for most small businesses, the best keywords are hiding in plain sight—right in Google itself.

Here’s how to find them (and use them) without opening another tab.

Step 1: Think Like a Customer

Start with this question:

If you were trying to find your service online, what would you type?

Keep it simple. Don’t overthink it.
Most customers aren’t using advanced search logic. They just want:

[Service] + [City]

[Problem] + [Nearby]

“Best” or “affordable” + [Service]

Examples:

“spray foam insulation Albany”

“cheap lawn care near me”

“basement waterproofing Troy NY”

Step 2: Use Google Autocomplete

Start typing your service into Google, but don’t hit Enter.

Watch what drops down. That’s Google showing you real searches people are making.

Try a few variations:

“spray foam insulation…”

“foam contractors…”

“home insulation alb…”

You’ll find ideas you didn’t expect—phrases you can work directly into your homepage, titles, and headings.

Step 3: Scroll to the Bottom

After you do a search, scroll to the bottom of the results page.

Look for a section called “Searches related to…”

These are gold. They’re often:

Longer variations

Nearby town searches

Common alternatives

Example:
Search “spray foam Albany” and you might see:

“closed cell spray foam Albany”

“foam insulation near Albany NY”

“best spray foam company capital region”

Copy those and start a small list.

Step 4: Build a Simple Keyword List

You don’t need a spreadsheet (but it helps).

Make a short list of:

3–5 core service terms

3–5 location variants

1–2 “modifier” words like best, affordable, residential

Mix and match these into content naturally:

“We offer affordable spray foam insulation in Albany, Schenectady, and Troy.”

Step 5: Focus on the Page, Not the Phrase

Google doesn’t rank keywords—it ranks pages.

Instead of cramming keywords into every corner, focus on writing one clear, useful page for each key service.

Let the keywords guide you—but not control you.

TL;DR: Local Keywords Are Simpler Than You Think

Think like a customer

Use autocomplete + related searches

Start with service + city

Write one great page per service

You can always optimize later. But clarity now beats cleverness later.

Not ready to “do SEO,” but still want your website to show up better?

Good. You don’t need to overhaul everything.
If you’ve got an hour, here’s what to focus on first.

These are the changes that make the biggest difference fastest—especially for local service businesses.

1. Fix Your Homepage Title Tag

This is the blue clickable link that shows up in Google search results.

Make sure it clearly says:

[Service] in [City] | Your Business Name

Examples:

Spray Foam Insulation in Albany | Upstate Foam Pros

Pet Grooming in Troy, NY | The Wash House

Electricians in Schenectady | Redline Electric Co.

You can usually edit this in your SEO plugin (like Rank Math or Yoast).
If you only fix one thing today—make it this.

2. Rewrite Your Homepage Headline (H1)

It should match your service + city.

No slogans. No welcome messages.
Just clarity.

“Professional Spray Foam Insulation in Albany, NY”
“Reliable Pet Grooming in Troy, NY”

If someone can land on your homepage and know what you offer and where—you’ve done your job.

3. Submit Your Site to Google

If you haven’t already, go to Google Search Console and:

Add your site

Submit your homepage URL

Request indexing

This tells Google your site exists (many business owners forget this step entirely).

4. Claim or Update Your Google Business Profile

Go to google.com/business and make sure:

Your listing is claimed

Your hours, phone, and categories are correct

Your business name matches your site

You upload at least 1–2 real photos

Bonus: Ask one happy customer to leave a review this week.

5. Add Your City and Service to Your Footer

Most sites hide the good stuff at the top and bottom.
Help Google out—drop a short sentence in your footer like:

Proudly serving Albany, NY and the Capital Region with residential spray foam insulation.

It’s a small thing. But small things stack.

TL;DR: Your 1-Hour Fix List

Update your homepage title tag

Write a real H1

Submit your site to Google

Claim your business profile

Add city/service to your footer

That’s it. You can do it on your lunch break.

There’s a common misconception that SEO is about secrets—some clever hack or hidden keyword formula that unlocks the top of Google overnight.

The truth is far less exciting.
Good local SEO is just clear writing, basic structure, and consistent care over time.

It’s maintenance. Like keeping your shop clean or your truck serviced.

1. You Don’t Rank Because You Deserve It

Search engines don’t reward businesses because they’re great at what they do.
They reward businesses that explain things clearly, update their info regularly, and build trust across the web.

That means your amazing service won’t help much if:

Your homepage is vague

Your Google Business Profile is unclaimed

Your site hasn’t been updated since 2016

2. Most Sites Don’t Need More—They Need Better

Before adding 12 blog posts or 10 new service pages, ask:

Is your homepage doing its job?

Are your core services clearly explained?

Are there internal links helping Google navigate?

You can often double your visibility just by fixing what’s already there.

3. Local SEO Is a Long Game

Google doesn’t rush to trust new or neglected sites. It needs proof:

Proof that you’re active

Proof that people trust you

Proof that other sites reference you

This takes time. But the flip side?
Once Google trusts you, rankings often stick longer than you’d expect.

4. You Don’t Need to Obsess

Set a calendar reminder: once a month, spend 30 minutes on your site.

That might mean:

Updating a sentence or two

Adding a photo

Publishing a quick FAQ

Responding to a review

Checking your top pages in Search Console

That’s it. SEO doesn’t have to be a full-time job. It just has to be real.

TL;DR: SEO = Showing Up + Staying Consistent

No gimmicks. No “growth hacks.”
Just a clear website, a few trust signals, and a little ongoing attention.

Do that, and you’ll already be ahead of most.

Search engine optimization has a reputation for being complicated.
But for most local businesses, Google is actually pretty simple.

If your website helps people find what they’re looking for—and shows signs that you’re a real business in a real place—Google’s usually happy to show it.

Here’s what actually matters.

1. Clear, Relevant Content

Google wants to know what you do and where you do it. That starts with:

A homepage that names your service and city clearly

A few service pages that go into detail

A couple of location pages if you serve multiple towns

You don’t need dozens of blog posts. You need clarity.

2. Consistency Across the Web

Google checks other places to see if your business is legit. These include:

Your Google Business Profile

Business directories like Yelp, Angi, Nextdoor, etc.

Local listings (Chamber of Commerce, community sites)

If your name, address, and phone number (NAP) are consistent across those sites, you build trust.

If they’re a mess? Google gets nervous—and so do customers.

3. Signals That You’re Alive and Trusted

A few simple actions help prove you’re not a ghost site:

Recent customer reviews (especially on your GMB listing)

Backlinks from local sites (partnerships, press, supplier pages)

A secure site (HTTPS), decent loading speed, and mobile responsiveness

You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to look alive.

4. A Site That’s Crawlable

Google sends little bots to read your website. If they get stuck, confused, or find dead ends, you’re out.

Make sure:

Your navigation is clean

Internal links connect your pages logically

You don’t have weird popups or auto-play videos blocking everything

The simpler your structure, the better your chances.

TL;DR: Google Likes What Humans Like

Clear writing

Accurate info

Trusted signals

Logical structure

If your site is helpful to someone trying to find your services, Google will usually get the message.

You don’t need to outsmart the algorithm.
You just need to make things easier for people—and by extension, for Google.

Most local business homepages try to do too much—or worse, nothing at all.
They open with vague headlines like “Welcome to Our Site” or “We’re Here for You,” and then wonder why they don’t show up in search results.

This post is about keeping it simple.
If your homepage clearly says who you are, what you do, and where you do it, you’re already ahead of most.

No SEO tricks. Just clarity.

1. Start with a Real Headline (H1)

This is the first thing Google reads. It should say:

[Your Service] in [Your City]

Examples:

“Spray Foam Insulation in Albany, NY”

“Pet Grooming Services in Troy, NY”

“Licensed Electricians Serving Schenectady”

Skip the slogans. Save the creativity for your tagline or subheading.
Your H1 is for search engines and skimming humans.

2. Write a Short Intro Paragraph

Right under your H1, write 2–3 sentences that:

Confirm what you do

Include the city name again naturally

Use a friendly, helpful tone

Think of it like answering this question in person:
“So what do you do?”

Example:

Upstate Foam Pros provides residential and commercial spray foam insulation in Albany and the surrounding area. Whether you’re insulating a basement, attic, or entire home, we can help you reduce energy costs and stay comfortable year-round.

3. Add a Call to Action (Yes, Really)

Your homepage should tell people what to do next.
Otherwise, they’ll leave.

Options:

Call now for a free quote

Request an estimate

View our services

Check availability in your area

Make it visible—don’t bury it in a footer.

4. Use Internal Links

If your homepage is the front door, links are the map.

Link to:

Your service pages

Your about/contact pages

Any location-specific pages

This helps Google crawl your site—and helps visitors find what they’re looking for faster.

5. Add Local Trust Signals

A few quick additions can go a long way:

Mention the city or region again in the footer

Show a photo of your team, office, or a local landmark

Embed your Google Maps listing (once it’s live)

TL;DR: Your Homepage Should…

Say what you do and where

Include a short, clear intro

Link to other pages

Guide the visitor toward action

Reinforce that you’re local and real

Final Thought

Your homepage doesn’t need to win design awards.
It just needs to communicate clearly to two audiences: humans and search engines.

Do that, and you’ll already be ahead of most.
