Entirely Handmade Bar Restaurant: Journey Pub in Bucharest

Designed by Alexandra and Cristina from joocastudio , Journey Pub is a unique bar restaurant, where every corner has its story. They worked on it with a great deal of enthusiasm, they put our creativity to a test inventing many installations and decorative objects with the main theme of the restaurant: “Journey”.

According to the architects: The beneficiaries wanted to achieve a warm and relaxing atmosphere, with elements that have great personality, contoured around the main theme of the restaurant: “Journey”. We concentrated on finding the key elements and transposed them into installations and decorations. The main spaces of the pub are: a saloon of 150 sqm, with a small stage where concerts and different events take place, two rooms of 55 and 30 sqm in the basement, where clients can play board games, paint or model, and a garden terrace with lots of green areas. The challenge was to decorate these spaces in different unique styles, according to each one’s function, while unifying them in accordance to the restaurant’s theme. For the saloon we chose sepia tones, desaturated colors and elements that create a retro chic atmosphere. Without doubt, the handmade hot air balloons that float in penumbra, are the key element of this space. The circular soffit in the center of the ceiling has been transformed in a painted metaphoric compass that shows directions and real distances to some main cities of the world. The paintings also represent icons from the same cities, and the two walls with hundreds of postcards complete the travel story.

While the ground floor is decorated in a more elegant vintage style, the spaces in the basement have a more playful note, with strong colors, cheerful paintings, and unique light fixtures made of hand painted teacups and kettles. The non-smoking room has easily gained the status of “the play room” due to the big painting on the walls with a perfect week-end journey, the swing chairs and the Nintendo game console. The vault room represented one of the biggest challenges of this project. We really liked the arched ceiling and wanted to emphasize it, while covering its quite visible imperfections. As a response, the idea of a dynamic butterfly swarm came up, directed to the exterior, to freedom. We added six directional led spots, which highlight the shape of the vault and creates beautiful shadows. The result was a dreamy atmosphere, completed by the warm and intimate light. The terrace is probably the most relaxing space in Journey Pub. The 250 lights that hang on the central corridor makes us think of a forest invaded by fireflies. Four shutters reveal canvases painted with stories from the four cardinal points. Each wall is different from the next one, and wherever they sit, the clients discover many journey elements: postcards, hippie vans, airplanes, bottles with messages, lanterns and many more.

Perfect Summer House: Casa Cher by BAK Architects

A couple with two teenage children had commissioned BAK Architects to build them a home for the summer. BAK Architects have designed another concrete house in the forest of Mar Azul in Argentina.

The program was to design two bedrooms, two bathrooms, one en suite and a common place (with kitchen) as generous as possible. The property is developed in a concrete and glass prism that highlights the different levels at which this resolved. The interior walls of hollow bricks are plastered and painted with white latex, floor cloths is divided by smoothing cement plate of aluminum.

Hotel Lone by 3LHD Architects

3LHD Architects have designed the Hotel Lone in the town of Rovinj, Croatia. The 248-room property is located in the picturesque Mediterranean town of Rovinj, in the exclusive Monte Mulini neighborhood. Built to resemble a sleek white ocean liner floating on the hillside, the hotel offers a wide range of places to wine and dine including three restaurants, three bars and a night club. It also features a Mediterranean-inspired wellness center, a 600-seat auditorium and nine other meeting and conference spaces with state-of-the-art technology. Hotel Lone’s design focus, together with first-rate event and leisure facilities, create the perfect symbiosis of work and play. A “Y”-shaped structure is created along the coast to give all rooms spectacular sea or park views, and a dramatic hotel lobby opens up towards the sky with an atrium spanning six levels. Respect for the environment is shown in the interior design, with integration of the natural surroundings into many of the hotel’s public and private spaces through large glass walls and mirrors.

A 60 m² Summer House On the Lake by Ad Design Studio

When designing a summer house, “blue elements” seem to be the secret formula. But, the team from Polish Ad Design Studio does not feel the same at all. As you can easily notice from the pictures below, a black and white palette works very well with spots of colorful pieces. The first thing you have to take into consideration when you want to summer-ize your house is your outdoor living space. Embrace it! If you’re lucky enough to have an amazing outdoor space — garden, patio, balcony, what have you — it’s time to start using it. The house we present you today has a large living room that connects with the exterior through transparent glass windows, letting the natural light come inside all day long. A patio chair accented with a colorful outdoor rug and weatherproof pillow transforms a simple space into an inviting retreat. A window box on the railing brings a little more green to the space, while sheer curtains offer the option of privacy. Moreover, invest in a few pieces of good patio furniture for your dining area, and then accessorize with less expensive and more trendy pieces.

All the cabinetry was integrated in a semi circular space, allowing the inhabitants to work efficiently in the kitchen and to save room.

Hot orange spots in the bathroom make the room a welcoming space. Don’t forget to bring some plants near the window if you need to refresh the atmosphere.

Time to relax? The king size bed represents the main ‘accessory’ in the bedroom.

An all white living room – the perfect space for chattering or watching TV. If you want to bring some contrasts inside, feel free to color the room with several pillows or a vivid carpet.

All the elements are hidden behind the scene :)

I love the wooden stair with its almost transparent handrail.

Transparent glass walls at the shower make the bathroom look wider.

The inhabitants wanted a great living room that connects them with the environment outside.

Make the bedroom “personal” with small decorative objects such as books, vases, pictures.

Where is the closet? An entire wall full with clothes that you don’t even notice…

It’s Swimming Season: Contemporary Pool House by WG Architects!

Who wouldn’t like to spend lazy mornings near the pool or organize late night parties by a shimmering turquoise pond? Although a pool house might seem like an extravagant frill, a well-designed version can boost your poolside enjoyment exponentially. WG Architects team is responsible for the project we present you below – a pool house that offers wonderful experiences to its inhabitants. The architects explain the project on their website as follows: “While simple in form the exterior utilizes a variety of low maintenance contemporary materials. The interior is organized around a large open entertaining area, which includes the kitchen, dining room, and living room. The living room opens onto a large outdoor covered patio creating a great space for outdoor living and blurring the boundary between the two. Carefully positioned windows fill the home with an abundant amount of natural light and create a strong connection with the stunning landscape. ”

Casa Talia: Private Terrace for Each Room by Marco Giunta

Italian architect Marco Giunta has designed the Casa Talia. Completed in 2012, this resort hotel merges tradition and modernity resulting in a highly unique interior environment. It is located on the island of Sicily in Modica, Italy. The houses were originally single family homes and are arranged in a circle around a Mediterranean garden. Each room has an entrance from the garden and a private terrace which overviews the historical center of Modica. The project idea was inspired by the typical model of a Moroccan Riad, where traditionally the common spaces or a garden lie at the heart of the house.

The restoration completely respected the preexistence and the interiors has been furnished with simplicity and good taste, using pieces of furniture which tell the “Sicilianity” and their background – all rooms, with their colors and atmospheres, refer to Mediterranean places and to the different cultures that marked the Sicilian history. The project is designed to reflect the old and the new – such as the home automation system that allows control of all electrical output and energy consumption.

For the restoration of the houses, great attention has been given to the choice of materials, which are natural, ecological, and, above all, typical of the Sicilian tradition: stone walls, lime plasters, cane roof, stone and polychrome tiled floors.

Modern Family Home: G House by Paz Gersh Architects

Tel Aviv-based architecture studio, Paz Gersh Architects, completed the G House in Ramat HaSharon, Israel.This house was designed for a family with three children. The house re-examines the boundaries of interior space on the ground level with the use of natural light and transparent glass elevations. These glass elevations on the ground floor are used as dynamic partitions, while the upper windows allow filtered sunlight into the space. The layout of this modern family home blends interior and exterior living via a large balcony that connects all public areas, such as the living room, dining room and kitchen. The garden contains of a typical Mediterranean fauna with a small orchard.

Panoramic Rooftop Swimming Pool by dmvA, Belgium

During the renovation of a 17th century gentleman’s house in the flemish region of Belgium, the adjoining property, then an abandoned school, went up for sale and was promptly purchased. since the building bordered the client’s garden, the idea of a panoramic swimming pool became the optimal program for the schoolhouse roof.

The dmvA design required a system of columns and beams created the skeleton inserted into the brick structure to support the pristine white-walled basin. The pool’s building systems also opened the remaining space of the building to become a livable relaxation space with a ground floor open kitchen and a mixed use first level. The immaculate planes white-out the rustic brick of the surrounding structures, save for the warm hues of the roof.

The rooftop pool and patio are supported by a new reinforced concrete structure integrated within the shell of an abandoned school building. The structure was renovated and its interior reprogrammed with thoughtful new spaces, including a ground floor “outdoor kitchen” and a multifunctional first floor studio. Still, the rooftop was granted priority of design, with great care and consideration given over to the materials and forms that characterize the zen-like room. A polyurethane coating was applied to all of the deck surfaces to ensure its clean, even antiseptic appearance. Any joints and would-be connections are dissolved into a tectonic seamlessness, with only the pool ladder and a narrow band of rocks along the deck’s perimeter to detract from the otherwise featureless space.

Modern Eskada Club, Portugal by Porto Architecture

Drawing on themes from luxury, glamorous and trendy blends Eskada Club Porto stands for an invigorating atmosphere. Thought from a range of differently design rooms, each with its own special feature it has achieved a unique environment out of the mix between past, present and future.

In the buildings restoration, materials were carefully chosen to guaranty comfort and innovative design. Retaining the original features and characteristics of its stunning façade and blending them with modern European design, it stands out for an exclusive club in the nightlife of North´s Portugal region. Original elements, such as the nude stone, architraves and coving have been restored and contrasted with modern, custom designed furniture, brushed and polished copper steel finishes and natural colors. The result, taking the notions of reason and passion as a source, is a creation blending intimacy and community, function and fantasy, art and design, resonating in this modern definition of luxury.

Sophisticated, modern design of the house is coming tecARCHITECTURE. This contemporary twist on the traditional Swiss chalet is a 2008 project located in Salensein, Switzerland. The team at tecARCHITECTURE had to design a creative solution in order to balance the clients desire for a modern home and the site’s strict building restrictions. tecARCHITECTURE was commissioned by a homeowner who wanted something modern, and rather than be limited by the draconian building restrictions, tecARCHITECTURE managed to play within the rules to create something entirely different.

Located in the picturesque Swiss village, this beautiful modern house design was created for those who love modern thing and something else. Interior and exterior design is designed in a beautiful terrace, living room, bedroom and bathroom look elegant taste of the owner around the house. Furniture also completed the design of this beautiful home. the house is a modern version of the classic Swiss chalet. tecARCHITECTURE ordered a homeowner who wanted something more modern, and instead limit the severe limitations of the construction, technology could play within the rules to create something completely different.

Korovesi Villa by Madeleine Blanchfield Architects

Australian studio Madeleine Blanchfield Architects designed the Korovesi villa near Savusavu, a town in the Fijian Province of Cakaudrove. This stunning holiday home can accommodate up to 10 guests and it can booked all year round, from $5,600 to $11,200 per week, depending on the season and number of guests. The villa is ideal for a large family, a group of friends, or even an intimate wedding or romantic honeymoon. The villa is comprised of seven separate buildings on two levels. The kitchen, living area, spacious master bedroom and infinity pool comprise the upper level while the lower level houses four ‘bures’. There are two beautiful formal eating areas, one indoor and one outdoor, each with expansive views of the bay and the lush green mountains beyond. The open-concept kitchen is designed with a separate food preparation area, and there is the choice to have food cooked in a conventional oven, large wood-fired pizza oven, gas bbq, or Webber bbq.

Modern House Surrounded by Pine Trees with Wonderful Views

Barcelona-based studio Isern Associats completed the Meriterrani 32 project in 2012. This 2,045 square foot modern house is located in Sant Pol de Mar in Catalonia, Spain. The project for this house emerged from a very simple premise, to build on a very steep piece of land with a gradient of almost 100%, boasting wonderful views and on a tight budget.

According to the architects: “It was this highly complicated plot of land, surrounded by pine trees, that defined a good part of this project. The land, and its perspectives, constantly changing as the hours pass, the color of the trees, the movement of sun and shadows… On the one hand, the reduced dimensions of the plot and its complex orography, and on the other the desire to leave the minimum imprint on the land led us to seek out a floorplan which, matching the trees that surround it, emerges from a trunk well anchored to the land and opens up in braches on each floor, in such a way that each branch becomes the terrace of the upper level at the same time as it becomes the porch of the lower one. All this helps create a very formal building, with huge cantilevers facing out to emptiness, the woods and the sea which lie before it. A structure which opens up to these views and the sun, and which thanks to the terraces and the porches confuse the interior with the exterior.”

Contemporary Mountain Home by Michael Gallagher

Architectural firm Michael Gallagher has completed the Peak 8 Penthouse project in collaboration with Donna Grace McAlear, principal of Atlanta-based interior design studio New Mood Design. This 6,000 square foot, contemporary mountain home is located in Breckenridge, a ski resort in Colorado, USA. This contemporary mountain home has its great room on the third level. Looking through the window-walls across the roof decks to spectacular views, you’ll see why it’s called the Penthouse. The middle level of this three-story vacation home has ski-in access to Breckenridge Ski Area. The lighting design is bold and contemporary, featuring fixtures by acclaimed designers Ingo Maurer and Jeremy Cole, and others created by New Mood Design especially for the home, such as the two-tiered, entry foyer chandelier. There are two master suites, boys’ and girls’ bunk rooms and an additional guest room. All levels are accessed by a stunning stairway and an elevator. All the detailing is sophisticated and unique. The vibrant colors and lighting give the home a warm feel despite it’s modern lines and frigid climate.

Cozy, Bright Apartment in Stockholm

This 785 square foot apartment is located in Vasastan, a city district in central Stockholm, Sweden. Located in a 1902 building, this two bedroom, one bathroom unit was converted into a one bedroom, one bathroom unit. The result is a more open floor plan that offers plenty of storage, an inviting living room and a decent-sized kitchen.

Contemporary Apartment Design by Studio 1408, Bucharest

Designed by Studio1408, this contemporary designed apartment spreads over 150 square meters and is located in the heart of Bucharest, Romania. The apartment initially featured a living room area with open kitchen, two bedrooms, two bathrooms and an office, but it has been completely transformed over the course of one year in order to satisfy the requirements of space, style and functionality. The layout of the apartment is now adapted to the specific needs of the client and is composed of the following spaces: living room area with open kitchen and terrace, entry area complete with a big storage space that cleverly separates the corridor from the living room, one expansive bedroom with access to an intimate terrace, large walkin closet, and an ensuite bathroom with a separate laundry area. The design concept revolves around a clean and minimalist look, softened by accents of rich colour and texture. The pure lines and simplicity of form that characterize the overall aspect of the apartment are complimented by the richness of the amazing solid wood flooring. Variegated elements such as the curry yellow sofas and the purple accessories energize the interior design as they contrast the concrete walls and grey tone palette. The living room area features luxury finishes and beautiful pieces of contemporary furniture: glossy grey kitchen furniture with concrete countertops creates a clean background for the living room area, matte white furniture pieces highlight the main living room concrete wall, flooring from Listone Giordano features a handcrafted surface finish with incredible results, the sofas contrast with a splash of color. In the bedroom unit, the concrete planks from the wall evoke the texture of the wood they were cast in, as more minimalistic furniture pieces inhabit the space and reinforce the contemporary aspect of the apartment. A central wall in the bathroom separates the space into three different areas and creates a focal point with the help of amazing ceramics and furniture pieces.
