In my search for something edgy and stylish but not overdone I would say I’m often disappointed. Most ideas are recycled and while I guess I shouldn’t be perturbed by this, well, I am. While on this blog I laud designs that are hot and trendy, you should know that I’m secretly on an unrelenting quest for something different, something unique. I happened across this store in downtown St Helena, CA while I was on vacation. What I love about this store is the daring combination of styles and unlikely objects. Used verbatim it might be a bit much in a house, but it would be sensational in a hotel or restaurant. Tufting, warehouse parts, giant rustic tree trunks, whimsical art that looks like a blown up page in a kids school book….

Im obsessed with Stingray. It looks so luxurious, its more inspired than leather, and more subtle than crocodile. Even its texture is fabulous. It might be the epitome of understated elegance. What do you think? I died for that dresser but opted to buy a tray as the dresser would mean Im pretty much not eating for a year That said I hope you enjoy!

This fabulous Australian born artist Howard Tangye has a background in art and fashion and Im just in love with his work. I love the casual way he flows from color to pencil and the fact that he leaves certain parts seemingly unfinished. There is something so confident and free about these pieces.

Just to get this off my chest: I dont like red. You wont see a lot of red on this site. Its a personal preference thing, I dont judge (that much). My point with this statement is to say I LOVE to see Chinese elements in design and furniture but occasionally Im a little put off on the super chinese feeling decor and I think thats just because I somehow associate that with the red and gold silk fabric I see everywhere. Sorry about the tangent.

Just watched Julie and Julia and I was captivated by the french flea market style. If Anthropologie had a kitchen it would certainly look like Julie and Julia’s in the movie. That was a great movie, Meryl Streep was fabulous.

Love the lighting, and almost everything for that matter about Maison Luxe.

Would love to see this in one of those all white beachy rooms…. earthy yet fresh.

This lamp is masculine, earthy and tailored all at once.

This limestone lamp with white paper shade would be an amazing accent for a clean contemporary style.

This Chandelier is a contemporary take on a traditional style. This free style form feels so organic.

This Chandelier is meant to live in my (fantasy) beach house among muted neutrals and whites.

This is a beautiful clean masculine, I could see this in an Edward Hopper painting.
