The East is regarded as a trekking peak, whereas Lobuche West is recognised as a full Expedition peak.

Lobuche, an attractive mountain that was first summited in 1984, has various existing routes, as well as offering the potential for new ones. The dark triangle of its rocky east face rises over the moraines of the Khumbu Glacier to a spectacular skyline, forming the south ridge.

The peak of Lobuche East is reached by descending a marked notch and climbing steep snowy slopes to the top. The mountain is more commonly climbed on the summit ridge only as far as a subsidiary snow summit, identified as a false peak, which is situated south-east of the true peak and before the notch.
