"DESTROY ALL FANBOYS!"

Just checking in for old times' sake!

2018-07-12T12:17:00.002-04:00

Yep, I'm still alive, but on a new site for those of you wondering. That is all. :D

Edit! I see that this site is still here! GOOD. I need to consider taking old posts that may have some relevance and migrating them over to the new site at some point, but it's a crazy time to do this now. We'll see what happens in the near future, though.

"This is only a test...

Test post. Yoo-hooooo? Anyone there? You should be reading my OTHER BLOG, then, grrr! Now, git! :D

The Count Lucanor: Creepy Retro Adventure Will Get Under Your Skin

2016-03-02T19:17:00.000-05:00

Don't let the Japanese voiceover and "hey, it's from an anime!" looks fool you one bit. The Count Lucanor is a great and creepy little indie game from developer Baroque Decay that's completely in English and one of the more unsettling games I've played recently. A full review is going up on the more updated (newer!) DAF, but I'm just giving the heads up to you folks still poking around here that you should boogie on over to the Count's Steam page and give the game a look-see. That is all. Have a happy (and windy) March!

Happy New Year!

2016-01-02T14:37:00.000-05:00

Yes, I'm still here... well, I'm actually HERE, but you gnu that already, right? Anyway, Happy New Year, and may 2016 bring you all you desire (or else?)

Albino Lullaby: A Nice, Creepy Pre-Halloween Surprise

2015-10-03T15:56:00.000-04:00

I'll just leave this here because you need something freaky for Halloween:

It's out NOW on Steam. Go grab it and prepare for a total freak show of a psychological horror game. And if you're actually reading this, you should be clicking HERE for more (and more updated) posts, grrr!

May Day, May Day! Not Really (But Really...)

2015-05-01T15:45:00.003-04:00

Oh, let's see now:

Project CARS is finally coming out! May 7 on PS4 and Xbox One, May 12 via Steam for PC and sometime whenever a release date is announced for Wii U.

It's FREE COMIC BOOK DAY tomorrow (May 2nd) at a comic shop near you! Go walk in and grab a giveaway like this cool Dark Horse promo above! Or the one below! FREE!

Um, what else, what else? Oh yeah! May The 4th Be With You and let that be your gateway to discovering the wild worlds of Star Wars if you haven't yet. It'll also keep you off the streets when the stupid Cinco de Mayo revelries take place. Now there's a "holiday" that's gotten way too out of hand thanks to US marketing making it another boozy blast no one in the U.S. remembers for what it really means. Bleh. It's my birthday on May 7, so send me free stuff like cakes and money and jewels and stuff! Heh. Just kidding, of course. It IS my birthday, but I'm going to be spending it fairly quietly this year tinkering away on an idea or three as usual. I'm not much for wild parties and stuff these days. Okay, if you're reading this, you're in the wrong place! Get yourself over to the not so NEW DAF and sign up already!

Happy New Year!

2014-12-31T14:13:00.000-05:00

Well, provided you're not on the S.S. Poseidon, that is. Anyway, may 2015 bring you and yours the best of everything possible. OR ELSE. Anyway, go make it a fantastic year, people!

December's Here Already?

2014-12-01T16:31:00.000-05:00

Where did the year fly to? Granted, it's been busy these past 11 months and busier on the home front with a ton of construction that started last month and still needs to be completed. I'm slowly going nuts from the delays and having to move stuff around here, but it seems to finally be getting back underway later this week. Anyway, I'm writing actual and more interesting posts over at the new DAF, so make sure to boogie on over there if you want more and more frequent updates.

Oh, and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is my Game of the Month (so far).

Some Changes to the Formula on a Few Fronts...

2014-11-01T15:16:00.000-04:00

Yeah, yeah - it's been a while since I posted here, but that's because (duh!), I'm posting HERE these days. I'm keeping this old site up for a bit, as I still need to complete a MAJOR reworking of posts on the newer DAF site.
Hopefully you're clicking that link above and getting what you need there. Additionally, I've just started writing for GamerFit Nation as of last week, so my workload has kicked up a bit (a good thing). Between that and some dips and bumps in the road, the last month has been a bit nuts in terms of other stuff. I'm going to be needing a new computer at the home office (both my older ones have more or less kicked their respective buckets), a better phone (nothing wrong with my old one, but it'll be easier to communicate with the folks at GF) and it looks like a tablet of some sort is in the "buy me!" stage thanks to a few upcoming games I'll need to snap up.

All that stuff is going to dent my finances pretty hard (bleh), as I prefer buying outright over owning some bank and overpaying through interest down the road. But I'll keep you in suspense here because you can read about some of that stuff where you SHOULD, ha!. Okay, back to updating the other site and whipping out some posts on a lousy and rainy Saturday...

Of Course I'm Still Here!

2014-09-03T18:12:00.002-04:00

Just not HERE, people! I'm on the much more updated DAF site and yeah, yeah, I do need to shut this old site down one of these days. I just keep it humming along once in a while for emergency purposes, I suppose. Always good to have a backup, right?

May's Game of the Month: Wolfenstein: The New Order

2014-05-31T14:43:00.001-04:00

Well, it was going to be Ubisoft's open world action game Watch_Dogs, but I found myself slightly more impressed with Machine Games' big deal FPS featuring the return of B.J. Blazkowicz to the gaming scene in a visually powerful shooter that actually has a decent story, NO multiplayer modes and even gives you the classic original Wolfenstein 3D as an easy to nab bonus so you can see how far things have come. Anyway, what are you doing reading this HERE when you can check out more and better stuff over at the NEW DAF? Yeah, yeah - I know I'm keeping this old blog going by a thread, but that's only thanks to me needing to reformat about a thousand old posts into Wordpress and needing this site up fora while longer as I slog through that process...

It'll get done eventually, but in the meantime, go take a gander at the stuff I'm doing on fanboydestroy.com, sign up if you haven't and let me know if you like what you see!

April's Game of the Month: Child of Light

2014-03-31T18:42:00.000-04:00

Yeah, yeah, it's NOT April for another five or so hours, but Ubisoft's upcoming RPG, Child of Light is so gorgeous and innovative on the artistic front that it's an automatic BUY for me as well and April's Game of the Month. Thankfully, it's coming to PC, Mac and a a few consoles on April 30th, so you can play it as well. Just look at those trailers above and below and you'll be on board. Or at the very least you'll be bugging someone you know who plays games to grab this and let you watch them play...

March's Game of the Month: Dark Souls II

2014-03-01T14:28:00.000-05:00

But of course: Yes, I’m a little early, but based on some demo time and the fact that veteran developer FromSoftware didn’t water the experience down one bit (in fact, in a few ways the games is more challenging than previous Souls titles), Dark Souls II is my Game of the Month for March. Offline play is key for me and many others and while the game does have that wonderful and extremely annoying element of other live players being able to pop into your online game to stalk or assist you (or both), it’s in the solo mode where many new and veteran players will first poke around just to see if the game is as intense as ever (it is and then some). Add in the new game engine (which makes for some even lovelier character models, creepy as all get out enemies and lush, deadly environments – see the site banner and background), improved gameplay, a much bigger world to explore and a massive amount of replay value for an instant classic. No matter which version you get your hot little hands on, you’re guaranteed a VERY well crafted and rather intense and gloomy singular experience that’s also pretty interesting to watch someone play if you’re not into the gaming thing. March 11 is the date for the North American launch and I’m expecting some people to contract a strange flu-like non-flu for a few days around that time (myself included)…

February's Game of the Month: Earth Defense Force 2025

2014-02-01T12:23:00.000-05:00

Yeah, it's not even out until the 18th of the month, but I've owned the Japanese version of the game since it came out last July and it's pretty amazing and VERY replayable, a great thing in this age of games you can blow through in less time that it takes to make a crock pot dish. EDF 2025's four distinct classes, 780 weapons, over 90 levels (with more coming through three DLC expansions) and both couch co-op and multiplayer modes means this one will be in some play stacks for a good long while.

Sure, it's not the "best" looking game and yes, developer Sandlot isn't whipping out visuals that are going to compete with the greatest-looking games of last generation. That said, the scale of the maps plus the level of destruction here is remarkable, and combined with the seemingly simple gameplay that grows deeper as the game gets more challenging, makes this one a keeper even after you've beaten it. Which will take weeks if you're going for every bit of content.

So yeah, BUY THIS GAME. PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 only (Sandlot doesn't make PC Games, sorry!).

Happy New Year! (Or Else...)

2013-12-30T17:08:00.000-05:00

Yeah, that's right: I'm EARLY for a change. Actually, I'm probably going to take tomorrow off and rest up a bit (NO, I'm not going to Times Square with the rest of the fools who get trapped down there for the better part of a day without the ability to pee), so I'm posting that new banner above and this post here to wish you all a stellar 2014. Or else. Now, I won't do anything to you if you don't try and have a super year, but I'd say you need to kick a few bad vibes in the nether regions and get some stuff DONE that you've been putting off for a while. You know you want to. Hey, change is good although moving forward can be tricky business if you're set in your ways and unwilling to bend a bit.

Yeah, yeah, I'm talking to myself as well, so let's see what happens 365 days from now and maybe kick up a heel or two in a victory dance. And oh yeah, one BIG change anyone reading this can make (if you haven't done so yet) is follow me over at the NEW DAF site! Lots of stuff going on there and you may even get lucky and win something when I run a new giveaway! That's a pretty good way to start off a new year, I'd say...

Happy Holidays To All (Or Else!)...

2013-11-30T16:00:00.001-05:00

Random advice time! Whatever you celebrate, do it and have a damn good time doing it. Stay away from the crazies who want you to tumble into their gloomy un-holiday traps, imbibe and consume responsibly and if you're giving gifts, give from the heart first and the wallet last. Shut up and listen for a change if you're a big talker. Go squeeze a plush object if you're a big hugger and generally, be nicer to random strangers unless they're trying to ruin your day. Then, you have my permission to kick them with those Nutcracker boots you're wearing, which them a merry whatever and stroll away home for a cup of hot cocoa or home-made eggnog (or a carton of the store bought stuff with some special additive that's usually rum or some other adult spirity liquid). That is all. No, wait - in case you STILL don't know this: I'm writing over at Wordpress on the NEW DAF! So boogie on over, check the site out and sign up! It's you're gift to ME if you do this, as followers and hits keep me happy and I KNOW you're cheap when it comes to getting total strangers presents. Note: if you're NOT cheap and don't mind parting with a few thousand dollars, sure, I'll take it!

Testing, Testing...

2013-10-27T02:41:00.000-04:00

Nothing to see here, move along! It's just a test post because I'm up too late working on stuff and I have some time to kill while waiting for a download to complete. Anyway, the NEW DAF needs YOU to pop in and sign up as a regular reader if you have not yet done so. I could certainly use the readers and you could certainly use the entertainment there rather than camping out here waiting for new content. SO yeah, nothing to see HERE... so move along to my other site and I'll be a happy camper!

Your Pretty Obvious Game of the Month: Grand Theft Auto V

2013-09-01T13:39:00.000-04:00

September 17, folks. Yeah, yeah, it's not even out yet, but between all the content descriptions, teasers, trailers and screens it's more than clear that this is Rockstar's biggest game to date and it will be a major distraction for those fans who buy in and tune out the even crazier goings on in the real world. Provided the planet doesn't blow itself up, melt or get invaded by aliens (and variations of two of those three things could happen), it should be a great holiday season for anyone employed at the company when those bonus checks go flying around...

Game of the Month: Dragon's Crown

2013-08-08T15:47:00.000-04:00

As in just shut up and buy it already if you own a PS3 or Vita. There are big differences in both versions (so yeah, you want both), that art book is PHENOMENAL (and even more so if you happen to have imported either expensive deluxe Japanese version of the game) and the game itself is an instant classic that's both a throwback to arcade beat 'em ups as well as its own bird.

Take a peek at the video below if you're not convinced yet. If that stunning artwork and outrageously stylized characters don't get your eyes popping and your wallet flying out of your pocket or purse, well... I can't help you in your art appreciation much. Anyway, grab this for home and/or the road and tell a friend if they own a PS3 or Vita to buy this as well. You'll be able to play together... but the game WILL make both of you work like hell for that privilege, as co-op is locked out until you play through the main game once. This won't take too long, mind you and hell, you'll NEED the bonuses earned in order to survive the harder difficulties and alternate paths.

Random Game of the (Upcoming) Week: Remember Me

2013-06-01T10:59:00.000-04:00

Despite the heavy focus on multiplayer and "socializing" game experiences to the point of insanity (every game really doesn't need a co-op or online mode!), single player story-based games aren't quite a dying breed, but neither are whiny gamers who demand every game be some sort of open world experiece. Capcom's Remember Me, (out June 4, 2013) is looking like one of those cool new IP that will please fans of games where atmosphere and intriguing characterizations are more important than back of the pack bullet points. I'll have a full review on the NEW DAF site in a few days, so pop on over and check it out...

A Little VGA 101 Love For Cauldron's Conan...

2013-05-04T12:15:00.001-04:00

Digging up some ancient random stuff from the vaults, here's a look at the intro and attract mode for Cauldron's 2004 game CONAN (aka CONAN: The Dark Axe). If you haven't played it (well, it WAS only available in Europe for PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox and Game Cube), it's a third-person action game that has some quirks, but makes for an interesting experience thanks to the motion captured combat moves and some really creative camerawork in the cinemas. It's not the best-looking game featuring the Cimmerian, but it's probably one of the more interesting ones Conan fans in the US never got to play unless they imported it. I have the PC, Xbox and Game Cube versions in the library (and yes, I've played it all the way through on each platform). The chances of it ever coming out as a re-release here are slim to none unless the PC version gets put on gog.com or some other download site. Of course, there's probably some sort of licensing agreement that needs to be hashed out, but I guess that's up to the folks at gog.com and CIP...

Game of Thrones Season 3: So Far, So Great (And More to Come)...

2013-04-01T00:22:00.000-04:00

Yikes. How about that first episode, hmmmm? Well, it looks as if there's a lot more to come in terms of shocks and surprises. I'll probably catch this again on HBO on Demand at some point this week, as I may have missed a line of dialog when I sneezed at one point. Anyway, Happy April Fool's Day, I suppose. This is going to be a wickedly cool TV month, that's for sure...

Hey! I'm Still Alive (and More Productive Elsewhere!)...

2013-03-24T15:42:00.002-04:00

Woo-hoo? You're STILL here? OK, OK, How can I get you to subscribe to the NEW DAF site over on Wordpress? (sings) "Tell me, tell me, pleeeeaaaaase!"... Well, you COULD just click on over, see the 160+ posts I've done this month and say "Oh, that's a LOT more updated... I like it!" and sub away. OR I could always BRIBE you to join (a penny each, as I've a bag of them here collecting dust), but that's not feasible and bribery always sucks when you get caught doing it and need to do some jail time. Not that I plan on EVER going to jail, mind you. I couldn't do the site from there unless the Wi-Fi was REALLY good and I didn't have to worry about getting a shiv in the shower every so often. Anyway - go poke around the new site, sign the heck up and let me know how you like the place. I'll be waiting. or posting too much to notice you unless I look at my followers listing (which is hovering around 120 or so)...

OK, OK - you've been asking me to give more stuff away, soooo here you go. I think that YOU just might be one of those people, right? So, HOW do you get one of these codes, you ask? Well, just head on over to the NEW DAF site and find out!

It's Toy Fair Time Again!

2013-02-03T23:31:00.001-05:00

Hey... it's that time of the year again, folks. It's said that he (or she) who has the most toys wins, which means Toy Fair ALWAYS wins every single year. I'll be there covering the big event from a few angles on the other DAF blog, so pop on by during the week of the show for some thoughts on stuff that I like. I'm going through my too-packed inbox making appointments, so I'm going to be busy as heck that entire week. Even better, Electronic Arts will be in NYC for their spring press event, so I'll have a few games to write about as well. Hmmm... sometimes I think need some interns or something, as I have too much on my plate every so often. But then again, it costs a lot to care and feed interns and no one makes that perfect robot companion that can do it all, so I guess I'm flying solo once again!
