Hey gang! I figured I would hit you up this Monday with some disturbing Music Videos. I have embedded the Vimeo versions as opposed to the YouTube versions as I think they look better. However, both videos are easily available on YouTube.

MGMT-Kids:

Counteract a happy, cheery tune to a poor kid being tortured by monsters. It doesn’t help that his mom is kind of a bitch.

This next one is from a band I really dig on Deathwish Records called NARROWS. This is a video that a filmmaker located in Spain did for barely any budget. It is disturbing, graphic and definitely NSFW!

Hey everyone! While you are waiting for a new episode, which should be out later today, I want to let everyone know about Rodrigo Gudiño’s new short ‘The Facts in the Case of Mister Hollow’. It’s an amazing short on a technical aspect and follows Gudiño’s path to make films to fester in your head and make you think about what you have seen. According to Gudiño‘ via a response from YouTube & from what I have heard, he plans to release all 3 of his short films on DVD this August. I hope he will be featuring them or debuting them at this year’s Festival of Fear in Toronto. His next entry into visual entertainment will be a remake of ‘Cut-Throats Nine’.

I highly recommend you hit “HQ” for high-quality and Full-Screen it as there are many details you must see…..LOOK CLOSELY.

Hey all. I know you are all waiting for another episode. It will be out. The JCVD & Martyrs episode will have to be pushed due to me not catching one of the movies in time. Hopefully that will only be a one week delay.

Yesterday on Twitter, I asked to see if you you guys and gals would be interested in either a monthly video show or a Dr. Triefenstein Music Hour. Most of you responded strongly to the video show.

Honestly, I can’t believe I’m doing this again. I took the day off work so I could do this. The Marathon starts at 6AM CDT and I should be On-Air 15 minutes prior to start time. If I make it this time around, it should end right before Midnight.

In order to join the chat room, go to this link - http://www.ustream.tv/channel/destroy-the-brain - which will pull up the USTREAM page with the chat and the video. If you haven’t signed up on USTREAM, that is fine. But, please, change your nickname using:

Break Rule

63 minutes of break time can be used during the 18 hour marathon. However, I can only have a break up to 5 minutes. Credits can be used as extra time for a break, but the 5 minute break starts directly after the credits are over. The way this calculates out is that I can have a 5 minute break between every movie with a “floating” 13 minute break to take at anytime.

Man, oh man. To see the combined words “True Horror”, “Sam Raimi” and “The Evil Dead Trilogy”. It almost brings a tear to my eye.

Thanks to Yahoo! Movies, horror fans can now discuss Raimi’s new entry (god, that sounds so good) into the genre.

Now, my jealousy towards Scott & Jeremy from We Are Movie Geeks rages deeper that they get to see this over 2 months in advance thanks to SXSW. The only gratification I feel about this is that they are seeing an unfinished print. ….Nope, still don’t feel better.

New functionality to the site

21 months ago when I started ‘Destroy the Brain!’, I always knew I wanted a podcast that integrated with the horror community. This has always been an uphill battle with me. There has been a lack of voicemails throughout the years compared to other genre based podcasts, the forums have been deserted and the scheduled Skype call-in’s being pushed to the wayside.

Today, I have added something to the site that I think is pretty f’n cool. I am trying to push feedback through not only the voicemail that you can leave on the show, but also to comment on the episodes as well. Now, I know the site is not that pretty. But we need to treat it like the Belial it is, with love. Not only did I add “Share This” functionality to the site, but I added something called IntenseDebate. What IntenseDebate does is basically expand the content for comments to embed YouTube videos or create your own video comment regarding an episode or post.

If this catches on, I plan to read the text comments or read them on air. I might only select a few or one and then inform the audience to check out the website to see the full conversation.

I would also like to take this opportunity to explain what everything does in an episode post.

First off, and I cannot stress this enough, if you plan to comment a lot on the site, sign up on Gravatar. What Gravatar will do for you is basically create a global avatar to use across many blogs. So, if you visit 9 blogs and 5 of them are signed up with Gravatar, once you enter your information to comment on a post, it will pull your avatar from Gravatar. This is done to save time for you.
Below the mp3 logo and information where you can download the mp3 or stream it, you should see something called ‘Share This‘. If you click on it, it will allow you to share this post through social sites like Reddit, Friendfeed, Digg and even Myspace. You can also email the link to the post to a friend of yours (which always helps DESTROY THE BRAIN). If you click on ‘Post’ after you click ‘Share This’, you are given options to post this to your Twitter friends, Facebook, Myspace and other blog sites.

Speaking of Twitter, Below ‘Share This’ , you should see something that says ‘Tweet This Post‘. You can help DESTROY THE BRAIN out by Tweeting about an episode you liked and spreading the word amongst your followers.

The Rules are simple:

5 minute breaks are allowed between movies.
Credits can be skipped to move ahead to the next movie, or can be used as a break to add on-to the 5 minute break.
18 hours is blocked out for the marathon and only up to 3 15 minute breaks can be taken during the 18 hours.
An Emergency Break can be used. This would only be used to go pick up Red Bull or 5 hour energy. The break can only consist of 20 minutes and, if used, will take away one of the 15 minute breaks.

Friday the 13th Marathon LIVE!

Gang, I’m gonna try. I remember overhearing a co-worker’s friend at an old job of mine mention that he does this every Friday the 13th. He would invite friends over to his place and watch all, then 8, films in a row and who ever was last would get a prize. While my prize will just be saying “I FUCKIN’ DID IT”, I am doing this!

So, While everyone one else is seeing the remake, I will be sitting down with the original to kickstart 18 hours of madness. Plus, I am going to be on USTREAM.TV streaming my marathon live. Now, I can’t show the films due to legal reasons, but you can watch me watch them or watch with me as I will perform commentary, maybe take calls (depending if my new equipment comes in) and definitely chatting in the chat room. Please join me. See if you can push yourself all the way through. If you can, I’ll see if I can whip up a prize for you or something (No Promises).

I need your input on the upcoming REPO! The Genetic Opera Episode

So, after seeing REPO! The Genetic Opera during the Repo Road Tour 3 stop in my hometown of St. Louis, I have had the songs stuck in my head. The film has really saturated my brain and I can’t wring it dry. Nor, do I want to.

REPO! The Genetic Opera is a bombastic, tour-de-force of a film. It will divide many horror fans. It seems like most people love or hate it. What is interesting is that my girlfriend thought it was fun, but loved certain parts and didn’t care for others. Is the film uneven? It’s Possible. However, the next day she informed me that she has had “Zydrate Anatomy” stuck in her head all day.

Now, it’s been awhile since I have felt addicted to a film. So, to celebrate, I will be dedicating a whole episode to REPO! The Genetic Opera. I would like to make this a huge deal and have some user content. This is where you come in. Please comment below on what you would like to hear in the episode or any ideas you might have.

I think it would be kind of cool to have a Karaoke Mash-Up of some of Zydrate Anatomy or Seventeen. I’m think Zydrate Anatomy because it can be adapted by a boy & a girl or either/or.

The episode will have the normal review of the film & the soundtrack, but I want to make this one special.

If you didn’t Sell Your Soul the first time around The Creepshow will make you Run For Your Life.

All female-fronted psycho bands are invariably, and unfairly, compared to The Horrorpops. Which is really curious because the ‘Pops are pretty atypical amongst psycho bands. In fact these days they almost buck the label entirely. So what you run into a lot are people who don’t like the ‘Pops and consequently view womens’ presence in the scene as really more of a curiosity or gimmick, or people who aren’t well versed in psycho but love the ‘Pops and hate all other chick-fronted psycho bands because they don’t sound enough like them. Which is a shame because they will all miss out on acts the like of The Creepshow who would no doubt change their perceptions.

Beginning with the very ominous Outer Limits-esque warning of Sermon II you can’t help but feel kind of like you’ve been here before. But at the first strains of the scorcher Rue Morgue Radio you are instantly and hopelessly hooked for the next twenty eight minutes. And given the short running time they don’t give you much chance to stop and take a breath in between.

The real question on people’s minds is how Hellcat and Sarah Sin stack up against one another. And I think Sarah more than capably fills her sister’s shoes. For the most part the Blackwood sisters are comparable in vocal quality, each distinct in her own way. Hellcat has a slightly smokier voice while Sarah is a bit on the poppy side. Her vocal stylings are like sweet, sweet, sticky cotton candy. But aside from that both incarnations of The Creepshow bear all the same hallmarks that set them apart from the pack and established Canadian psychobilly as the best in the land.

Run For Your Life is the ultimate party record. Not to limit its range or anything. It stands on its own. But it’s just so much gleeful, morbid fun that its application to your next Halloween party (which is right around the corner, *hint hint*) is undeniable.

I don’t mean to insinuate that Run For Your Life is the perfect record. But by the same token I’m hard pressed to come up with any significant complaint that wouldn’t just sound like I was reaching. Sometimes a great record is just that and you owe it to yourself to just shut up and let it be.

Some people are probably wondering “Where are the last episodes of October?”, “Where is the Halloween Music Special?” and “Where is the Halloween Treat/Scavenger Hunt?”

Well my friends, I’m working on the Halloween Treat still. It has been taking tons of time to get right and I’m in the final stages. Once it is done, I will need to pack it up and upload it and it will finally be finished. I will now keep it up for a week due to the delays. Also, remember, you must learn about QR codes and must get a QR Code Reader to get to the link. Eat it, Drink it, but whatever you do make sure you have enough antacid on hand

I’m not sure how many years have elapsed since Golden Age of Grotesque but in that time Marilyn Manson has gotten married, alienated roughly half of his band, cryptically hinted at directing two films based on nineteenth century literary properties, gotten divorced, lent his name to his own brand of absinthe, reconnected with one of his ostracized bandmates, introduced the weirdo guitarist from Limp Bizkit as his new guitarist and basically done everything but record an album. So it was much to everyone’s shock when radio stations began playing the first single from the record, Heart Shaped Glasses. Which when you think about it is the first thing Rev. Manson has done to genuinely shock people in almost a decade.

There was once a day when I’d have pounced on a new Marilyn Manson album the day it hit streets. But with everything I’d heard from and about the record I put it off for months. And I’ll freely admit that a friend just sent me a zip file of the thing because I couldn’t justify paying for it. In terms of creativity Eat Me, Drink Me falls somewhere in the realm of Golden Age and Holywood, Manson’s two typically agreed upon flops. It seems I’m pretty much the only person who actually liked Golden Age. It was (at least until recently) my opinion that Holywood was his most lackluster effort. But Eat Me, Drink Me has so little soul it makes the aforementioned look like the Beatles fucking White Album! Believe me, I’m not just saying this to be inflammatory or to come up with the perfect soundbite. This is without a doubt the most self-indulgent, yawn-inducing, morose slap in the face I have ever listened to. Ever.

The record starts off with If I Was Your Vampire which itself is not exactly an enthusiastic barn-burner but at least has some teeth to it (if you’ll forgive the pun) and then leads into Putting Holes In Happiness and the equally downbeat and very Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers-esque Red Carpet Grave. And this depressing motif continues on through They Said Hell’s Not Hot and Just a Car Crash Away . The common theme that I seem to be getting from this album - as we all know Manson is a big proponent of the concept album - is his love/hate relationship with stardom and how the glitz and glamour steal your soul and leave you an empty shell. The problem is that any sympathy the listener might have felt for him has dwindled to nothing with all the tales of Manson’s epic jackassery.

The proceedings regain a little bit of momentum after the disposable Heart Shaped Glasses with the album’s real stand-out track, You and Me and the Devil Makes 3. It’s a throbbing, trudging anthem that almost instantly transports the listener to one of the many thousands of strip clubs that I’m sure have the song on heavy rotation on a nightly basis. But testament to Eat Me, Drink Me’s jarring inconsistency the pace grinds to a screeching and very final halt on the album’s title track.

The musicianship itself may not exactly be inspired (no doubt having to do with the myriad lineup changes) but it’s still passable. The lion’s share of the negatives lie with Manson’s own performance. Here Manson affects his best post-Tin Machine David Bowie impression to mostly unremarkable but occasionally disastrous consequences. His vocals, perhaps reflecting the sense of deflated desperation he wants so badly for us to perceive, are flat and monotone and ultimately hollow. For the most part he doesn’t even evoke enough aural punch to recall Tubeway Army-era Gary Numan.

I may dislike Manson as a person but I’ve always loved his music for that exact reason. However the sad, sad poet hat doesn’t fit him. There can be no question that this is Manson’s most personal album but in that it’s a document of an ignorant misanthrope and unrepentant antagonist pondering aloud why he has no friends in this world. Less than revealing how far he’s come Eat Me, Drink Me shows just how far he has yet to go before he reaches a plateau of musical maturity that elevates him to something more than an interesting footnote in rock music’s history. I want him to get back to his trademark debauchery and own up to his absolute corruption and experiment with developing a conscience on his own time.
