Just the other day I was shopping for all sorts of wires to get all my gear up and running now that I finished renovating the house and I got the furniture. But as always, when renovating, don’t expect to find everything where you put them. Some things went missing and I had to go out to the local tech store and buy some cheap hdmi cables.

But not only I needed affordable cables, I wanted to make sure I’m not buying crap so I decided that the best thing is online. I found the guys at EverythingOutlet to be very well prepared. They’re experts in what they do and they taught me what I should buy and why. To be honest I loved it because they even threw in a discount on the hdmi cables and adapters that I needed and the most important part of the whole deal is that the bill I had to pay was exactly what I expected (prices start at $4.99)

The thing I loved the most was the live chat support in case you need help. I did and they helped. I highly think you should go ahead and try them out in case you need this sort of wires. They’re the best I found.

Some do it for the money, some do it as a passion, but most of them want to have the readers (the visitors) informed. The newest (worth writing about) addition on the market is GadgetAdvisor.

It’s not like all the others because these are only the “best of the best”, the most significant, useful, or particularly cool gadgets that have been hand-picked specially for you. For example you’ll get to read about top rated products like the universal remote control, the network media player or those helpful online backup services.

Though this isn’t an endorsement, I read a couple of their articles and these guys know their thing. Go ahead and see for yourself.

Now that you know how to get rid of duplicate files on your Windows PC or laptop, what if you could see how the space and hard drive data is distributed on your computer? The same guys from Moleskinsoft managed to come up with a disk space usage utility, dubbed Directory Size which is a free but highly useful Microsoft Windows software.

The tool is pretty intuitive so you won’t be lost with using it. The left part is where you have the directory tree while the right panel is where everything happens and I’m talking about detailed information like the size of a directory, if that’s the biggest folder you’re browsing, how many files it has beneath. You can also filter the future results on mask and choose what the extensions that the search function should include (or not).

Another thing that got my attention is what these guys call the “alive” diagram where you can see in real time the disk space usage results.

There’s also another interesting feature for the Moleskinsoft’s software; the “save all scanned files” options that allows you to keep the current scanning results in a separate .html or .txt file and access them whenever you need them.

Check it out and let us know.

Sometimes my Windows XP is running slow and I don’t know why. I do have enough RAM memory, my processor is not very slow and even though I only open one or two programs, they are very slow. No there aren’t any Windows installing issues, it’s just that I keep on downloading and I never remember that my hard-drive can only pack 60 GB.

So what do I do? I start the “cleaning up” process and look for the files that I don’t need, or for those that are duplicate. But what if a tool can do all these for me? What if there is a software to search and remove duplicate files from my computers?

Well this is exactly what Moleskinsoft Clone Remover knows how to do. It’s an award-winning small shareware utility for Microsoft Windows (Vista included) that will detect your duplicate data no matter if it’s a .rar or .zip archive, mp3 files, word documents or any other files, and delete it in a safe way.

The program creates a list of files it found and you can take action by simply pushing one button. Just to make sure you won’t be deleting something you need, there is a built-in viewer where you can see it running with its associated program.

We tried it here and I must say it does what it was built for. And does it good.

A new 8 megapixel cameraphone has been spotted in the wild, and is dubbed LG KC780. Given the specs the new KC780 has I would have expected to be nicknamed, but who cares when you get a 13.9mm thick phone that packs a 2.7-inch LCD and incredibly smart Schneider-Kreuznach certified lens.

Actually talking about the camera, it’s the most interesting thing in the whole phone. With Face Detection technology, Beauty Mode that will digitally smooth blemishes and built-in image stabilization the new LG KC780 is probably going to shoot images really nice up to ISO 1600 (it does have a tiny flash over there) and videos at 640 x 480.

One of the most intriguing things (that I honestly didn’t expect) is that the new LG KC780 can act as a wireless Bluetooth webcam for a PC. We’re waiting for a price and a release date because nothing “leaked” yet. - via Engadget

Packed with the new BenQ DC C1060, there’s a 10 megapixel sensor, a 2.7-inch LCD display, 3x optical zoom, a “Super Shake Free” system for those with shaky hands, the Smile Catch technology (some sort of face detection) and the ability to record video at 720 x 400 or 640 x 480. Other than these tech specs, the new style of the C1060 includes a leather texture grip which, trust me, feels great in your hand.

There’s no release date or a price, yet, but we’ll keep you posted.

CircuitCity is closer and closer to failure, with the stocks dropping below 50 cents per share, disappointing results, including a worse-than expected holiday season and a failed deal with Blockbuster earlier this year.

What’s that going to mean for us? Even though I’m not a fan of them, I must say that more big players on the market means better prices for us. That’s about to change if CircuitCity is going under. I wonder if that’s why they’ve been calling it the “Circuit Shitty” by now. I’m afraid they will see a serious decline in cash on hand and credit facilities … - via CePRO

I’ve head about JL Audio before and knew they’re famous in the automotive industry, but their recent release, the Fathom F212 home subwoofer, just changed my mind. Designed by pros (for pros) this is the most powerful and the most refined 12-inch woofer in the Fathome lineup. But what makes it so special and why would you buy it? Here’s a quick review o Fathom F212.

Here are a couple of the most interesting specs for the F212 :

packs a dual massive 12-inch drivers (12W7 drivers) for better performance

features an active subwoofer that packs an immense 3000 Watts integrated amplifier (with on-board switching) and has ARO (Automatic Room Optimization) technology

offers “mind-blowing bass with enhanced output, reduced distortion and even greater transient accuracy than the single-woofer Fathoms,” as the company says.

measures 31.96 inches H x 14.92 inches W x 20.39 inches D and weights 220 lbs

The new JL Audio Fathom F212 subwoofer will be offered in Satin Black and High Gloss Black finish for $6,000 and $6,100 respectively. It will be available from this October, so better prepare the money you’ve been saving for a super hi-tech audio system.

So how you do it for the common user? Here’s what two Intel engineers did last Thursday at the recent Linux Plumbers Conference (what they used) on an SSD based Eee PC.

A modified version of Fedora. They’ve cut down different boot elements that aren’t necessary or have functions that are already replicated elsewhere.
- examples : “setroubleshootd” (Security Enhanced Linux (SELinux) configuration troubleshooting) or “initrd” (that takes at least half a second).

A special patch that allows several things to be run simultaneously : link (site down at the moment)

These guys submitted their work to Moblin.org, which means sooner or later we may see faster booting times on other devices, as well.

Sony PRS-700 Reader was just announced and the big deal is that it’s going to feature a 6-inch touchscreen display, LED reading light (if you can’t sleep and want to read) plus an on-screen keyboard that allows searching and note-taking. Other than that, it will feature the same specs : internal storage for 350 books, an SD and MS-Duo expansion slot plus the 7500 page-turns battery life.

Anyone wonders what the price will be? I bet it’s going to be close to $400, but we’ll have more info in a couple of weeks.

But that’s not all, because it has a few more special features. First one is that it uses D-Link’s trademark SharePort technology that allows you to connect a printer or a storage device via USB and access them all through the network. Second of all D-Link says their dual band router is highly optimized for HD video streaming.

That baby is going to cost you $200 if you want to buy it, however if you already own a DIR-628, DIR-655, DIR-855, or DGL-4500 you can get the Share-Port technology with a simple firmware update.

I am going to doubt the fact that the MI6 agents are so stupid that they don’t erase highly classified images on a camera if they plan to sell it on eBay, but I’ll go with the wave and say the news is real.

Apparently a funny James Bond agent from the MI6 sold a secondhand Nikon Coolpix camera on eBay for just £17 (some $30) and simply forgot to erase those classified rocket launchers pictures and hand-drawn graphics of terrorist links, most of them related to Abdul al-Hadi al-Iraqi, a high-ranking al-Qaeda officer.

The new 28-year old owner from Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire found them all along with his own, after a vacation in the US.

That’s either an unimaginable mistake for the agency or this guy is a great Photoshop wiz and managed to do a great job with those files. Local police is investigating the whole thing.

I’ve always expected the days when our gadgets will be able to split into even more gadgets. Apparently the guys at DoCoMo and Fujitsu did too, because they’ve just released at CEATEC a concept design that allows it to split into two pieces which both feature separate screens and keyboard segments, communicate via Bluetooth and stay together using some strong magnets.

It looks like a very slick design but I do wonder if there are other people like me who’d be interested in owning one, because everyone these days want to minimize the number of gadgets or electronics we’re carrying. Would you like one? Would your friends (girlfriends) be impressed ?

There’s a big hype with Solid State Drives (SSD) these days and Super Talent is trying to take the lead. The company announced a 2.5-inch, SATA II 128GB SSD dubbed “MasterDrive LX”and the most interesting thing is the price. Only $299 which translates into $2.33 / GB. If the 128 GB model is not close to your price range then Super Talent have prepared a 64GB SSD (same specs) that will be sold for just $179 (that’s $2.79 / GB).

The model is a Super Talent FTM28GO25H model and the specs say that it supports 100 MB reads and 40 MB writes. Are we in the point of no return for the SSD going mainstream on the market?

If you can afford these prices, can you think of a reason why you wouldn’t buy one with such a good dollar-to-gigabyte ratio? I can’t! - via JkOnTheRun

Philips is targeting the young with their new Flavors LCD TVs line. First to get them are the Italians who were also first at the grand presentation where these little things were announced. There will be 22-, 32- and 42-inch models, all packing a really interesting feature; each has two interchangeable frames that stick to the big thing because of the “magnetism”.

The 42-inch LCD sports a 1080p panel, 30,000:1 contrast ratio, 5-millisecond response time, 500 cd/m2 brightness and a pair of HDMI ports. Just how cool is this. It mixes good taste with great performances to make everyone happy.

If you think you’ll change furniture in the next couple of years and you want to keep the TV, then you may want to order a few more frames with the desired colors that match the couch or the carpet. I’m sure your geek girlfriends will like them … so if you plan on buying here’s how much you’ll have to spend : €549 ($803) for the 22-inch, €799 ($1,168) for the 32-inch and €1,199 ($1,754) for the 42-inch.

Remember when I told you I needed a good backup solution for all my data? Well today I get to review Backup-Platinum and their product because they say it’s special.

I’m not going to start with the usual specs as I do, because I was already lured in by a couple of interesting features like the fact that it uses a multi-threaded file-processing engine which allows to process files which are currently in use by other programs. That’s a big problem with most of the backup solutions that I’ve tried so far. They all “neglect” some of the files you’re using constantly, but not Backup-Platinum.

What does it do, exactly?

Using a “wizard” approach to learn where, what, how and when to backup your critical data, the software will make a small (multichoice ZIP compression) and secure 128-bit encryption with Blowfish backup that you’ll be able to storage on almost every sort of media type: hdd, USB drives, CD-R/W, DVD±R/RW or Blu Ray media, FTP server or Local Area Network.

It also does automatic backups if you need them, or for more advanced users that run Windows NT/2000/XP or 2003, it can be used in service mode.

If you want to buy it, the price is $67 for one license. But if you’re not yet convinced, the guys are really generous and will offer their product free for a 30 days trial. What’s the best thing about it? The program is available with no limitations. It’s just like the full-powers edition. You can download it here and give us your opinion.

Today you can feel the same “emotion” if you’re a fan of Panasonic laptops because the new and improved 8-series (F8,T8 and W8) ToughBooks have been announced, and good news : they all pack Qualcomm’s Gobi dual-3G chipset.

Toughest of them all is Panasonic F8 (pictured) a lightweight (3.7 pound) 14-inch ToughBook that runs thanks to Intel’s 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo processor and among other things features a 160GB hard drive and a DVD drive. Less tougher than the F8 are both the T8 and W8, both with a 12-inch display running on a low-voltage 1.2GHz Core 2 Duo processor. There are slight differences between the two of them. Panasonic T8 has a touchscreen while the W8 features a DVD drive.

All three models will be available from November and should be priced at $2,499 for the F8 and $2,099 for the other two. - via Cnet

Now if the 50-megapixel Hasselblad camera (pictured above) is no longer a good choice for whoever needs/buys it, then we have news for you. The company is launching a 60-megapixel Hasselblad dubbed H3DII-60 and it should hit the shelves in April 2009. That makes the old H3D-31 look so … old. But back to our little monster over here, it should cost some £18,750 (~$34,600) and that’s £4,000 (~$7,400) above the H3DII-50. I’m not sure if it’s worth investing that much money in a camera that provides 94% full-frame , 645 coverage, and with a sensor that measures 36×48mm which is twice the size of all 35mm DSLRs.

“We feel that it’s important to emphasize the 94% coverage, because, although we hear the phrase ‘full-frame’ being used quite frequently, no manufacturer has yet achieved true medium format full-frame,” said CEO Christian Poulsen at the Photokina show, in Germany.

Check out a gallery with Hasselblad H3DII-50

Just the other day I talked about the GPS tracking device from LandAirSea and I wanted to make sure people got the right idea, because I’ve looked at a couple other videos and I understood that this is not just a vehicle tracking device. It’s more than that.

By all means it’s great to have it under your car sticked really nice because of a great magnet and knowing that it’s waterproof. It’s also great to know that 24 US satellites are moving in the sky to keep track of everything that moves, 24 hours a day, or the fact that all the data from these satellites can be so easily downloaded if you use USB connectivity and a computer. Or how nice you can spot it on Google Earth.

But I forgot to emphasize the “detective skills” it has. It even helped out the police officers to solve a murder case. The story short, George Ford was arrested in Chenango County for the death of a 12-year-old girl. He turned around recklessly and accidentally ran over the little girl. But the police had no real evidence, until Ford’s wife testified that she installed such a vehicle tracking device to see if her husband cheats on her.

Based on the information from the tracking key the police found out that the guy chased the little girl really and intentionally ran her over around 3:00 am. Authorities charged him with murder.

For those that love Lexus IS-F we do have good news to bring you. Apparently the folks at Fox Marketing / Artisan are going to work on a tuning program that will include both mechanical and design upgrades that not only make it look better, but will make it run “fast as the wind”.

Under the hood this Lexus is going to get a 5.0 liter V8 engine that delivers over 600 hp, the IS-F is also equipped with JE pistons, Crower rods, Mishimoto radiator and Artisan exhaust.

On the other hand, the body kit is going to change the way it looks, in a positive way. It’s now going to have a Glasurit Sunset Orange paint finish and blacked-out headlamps, grille and emblems. But that’s not all because the new Lexus IS-F will feature custom front and rear bumpers, new side-skirts with blistered rear fenders and integrated 20 inch special wheels that run on Toyo T1R tires.

Honestly, I’d love to get my hands on such a beauty, if not to own it at least to stress-test it a little bit because that orange - excuse me, that Lexus … sure flies. Would you like one of your own, too? My bet is on a loudly “yes”.

I always though that a thief is just as good as they guys building car alarms, and that if he “really” wants it, you’d be pedaling on a bike next day at work, because he’d be able to steal your car. The only solutions I really trusted were those that used GPS tracking devices to alert the police or the owner where the vehicle is.

For almost 15 years, the guys at LandAirSea Systems (http://www.landairsea.com) has been developing some of the most innovative and powerful GPS tracking systems, that are able to track the location of your car with an accuracy ranging from 10 to 15 meters. That makes them one of the biggest providers in the surveillance technology industry.

How do they do that? Well there are 24 U.S. government owned satellites that manage to cover the earth two times each day (some 12,000 miles) which send signals to a GPS Tracking Key (which is a small, pocket sized device) which sends it to a computer that accurately determines the GPS location of the device and records the data. That happens every second.

There are other advantages to their system and that include the fact that all data can be downloaded and viewed in Google Earth just by plugging the Tracking Key into the USB port of a computer. Another great point is that their GPS Tracking device has an extremely powerful magnet that can be placed easily under your car, is waterproof and will not fall down unless manually take off.

LandAirSea Systems’ technology was also used to solve murder cases and has helped with convicting criminals. Check out the video below.

A little bit longer than expected but Sony came out with the official announcement about their newest Blu-ray laptop, which as a coincidence is also the lightest in the world. Dubbed Sony Vaio TT it’s a 11.1-inch beauty that only weighs 2.87-pounds because it’s made of carbon-fiber.

Now onto the real specs, the new Vaio TT is going to use Intel’s Centrino 2 technology, will pack an XBRITE-DuraView LCD that delivers 100 percent color saturation and ideal for 16:9 HD movies, a dual channel 256GB (128GB X 2) solid state drive (SSD) setup with RAID, energy-efficient white LED backlight, HDMI output. Did I mention that it uses Sprint Wireless WAN technology (EV-DO Revision A) and runs on Windows Vista ?

If you like it, then you should know the prices for the sub-1-inch thick Vaio TT, they start at $2,700 for the Blu-ray versions and $2,750 if you need the SSD. Nothing about the battery yet, but we’ll have more info soon.

Photography fans gather around. Why? Here is what could be “the best professional camera system in the world” or at least that’s what David Bell of Leica said about their newest 37-megapixel flagship S2 camera. Do you remember the Hasselblad H-series for professionals, well Leica thinks that their S2 is twice as fast as them and with much better performances at higher ISOs.

Looking at its design, is not something new, and to be honest we’re already used with the medium format in Canon’s EOS 5D or EOS 1Ds MkIII, but they say it offers the best when it comes to handling and flexibility. Aimed to top end users that can get the most out of it, the new Leica S2 is featuring a 56 percent larger sensor (30×45mm) than most of the 35mm DSLRs on the market.

“We have a stunning line-up of nine lenses in the S-system. Some will have leaf shutters to enable flash sync at fast shutter speeds, other will be smaller and rely on S2’s built in focal plane shutter. These brand new optic and high resolution [Kodak] sensor will produce images that are at the top of the professional game for many years to come,” said Maike Harberts, Leica product manager.

I really love it and you probably do, too, but just a piece of advice for these guys. Make sure it won’t cost millions …

I can come up with a couple of reasons why I would need a power amplifier and the best of all is my crazy neighbor that lives at the ground floor. I really like to play it out loud for a couple of minutes and see her driving insane, therefore I need something really powerful. How about SONAMP ASAP3D SE from Sonance?

Engineered to be a custom installer’s dream, the recently announced versatile amplifier uses IcePower® digital-amplifier technology to bring high efficiency and remarkable performance.

All wrapped up in a 1U high by ½-rack the new ASAP3DSE manages to boast 25W RMS per channel @ 8 ohms and 50W RMS per channel @ 4 ohms and has a frequency response of 20Hz – 20kHz ±2dB. Causing very little heat generation and thanks to its small size (it only weighs 7.0 lbs or about 3.2kg) this power amplifier can be placed anywhere in the room, even on the wall behind a flat-screen TV.

I’m pretty sure those passionate about sound and stuff like that will be really interested to know more so here it is:

Total Harmonic Distortion
0.10% (1kHz, 8 ohms);
0.25% (1kHz, 4 ohms)

Signal to Noise Ration

-94dB (w/22kHz filter, A-WTD); -88dB (with AC-sensing trigger)

Input Sensitivity
0.9V for 25W RMS output
0.7V w/BBE ON (+3dB)
0.5V w/BBE ON (+6dB)

Input Impedance
13k ohms

Maximum Source Voltage Input
2.3VAC RMS

Voltage
1.3VAC RMS w/ BBE ON

Power Consumption
200 Watts

Heat Output
187 BTU/hr

AC Fuse
2A (T2AL ~ 250V)

Just from the specs, everything looks amazing and I’m pretty sure the $399 you’d have to pay for ASAP3D SE are really worth it. Are you an audio geek? What do you think?

More and more camcorder models released with better and better prices and quality have driven video sharing social networks like YouTube, Metacafe or others that have video user generated content, to increase like hell. Since I’m traveling these days and already told you about the new Nikon Coolpix P6000, I decided to take the JVC GZ-MS100 for a spin.

Quite powerful, one of the best features is the direct YouTube connectivity, that will upload your files (videos, yes) straight on siteby just pushing one button or … so they say. But let’s get a bit deeper into this thing and review it. First of all, here are the specs.

compact slim design

Konica Minolta 35x zoom optical lens with 800x digital zoom

1/6-inch 680K pixel CCD

Up to 9999 digital stills at the highest quality

Gigabrid Engine

a1 hour recording at the highest quality (Ultra-DVD Movie) with a 4GB SDHC memory card.

PROs

First thing I liked is that JVC’ s GZ-MS100 is only weighing 9.6 ounces and only measures measuring 2.18 x 2.68 x 4.37 inches. If you’re like me and need your gadgets to be small and lightweight, so that you can carry them all with you, MS100 does the job great.

Video quality (bright and colorful images ) is way above all entry level cameras, with great results when shooting in low light or when zooming up to 35x. Also to be mentioned is the battery life that will really keep your “toy” running for more than 2.5 hours of recording.

Last thing that I liked is the recording feature that allows to record on a SD and SDHC card from the begining.

CONs

JVC is still using the proprietary MPEG-2 format with .mod files and even though you can manually edit the file extension to .mpg and edit them, why on Earth would they do it? Not to mention that after editing, all files may need to be completely re-encoded. It happened to me, yes …

Second of all is the software that “helps” with the YouTube upload (synchronization). it’s not the best I’ve seen and to be honest I failed to upload files at least a couple of times. It could be me, but I’m pretty certain there are some glitches over there and a newby or a novice may have issues with it. Though it says one button upload, it’s not really that easy.

Overall, this camcorder tops the other similarly-priced models in the range of $279. Our friends from TestFreaks know more about it.

You may or may not remember but I’m really excited when it comes to traveling and that is, mainly because I have my camera with me, to immortalize every little detail that I like. Tired of my own Fuji, I decided to take a look at Nikon and their new COOLPIX P6000 which is both for the enthusiasts and also for professional photographers.

Unless you need a fashion camera (need great looks) Nikon COOLPIX P6000 could be exactly what you’ve been looking for by now: high-quality pictures and stunning clarity. Why all these? The 13.5 megapixel 1/1.72 inch CCD image sensor helps while the DSLR features of the camera are a really nice add-on. But let’s get a few details about it before we make up our minds:

4x Wide Angle Optical Zoom-NIKKOR ED Glass Lens t

the new EXPEED Image Processing feature

Optical VR Image Stabilization

new COOLPIX RAW mode (.NRW) with Windows Imaging Component which allows you to take and edit pictures in RAW mode with Windows Vista. (note: that’s something I’ve long wanted in a smaller cam)

2.7-inch High Resolution LCD with an Optical Viewfinder

ISO 64 - 1600 at full resolution (3200 and 6400 at three megapixels)

external flash and other lens accessories

Ethernet port, that allows you to automatically upload your pictures to Nikon’s my Picturetown photo storage and sharing service

incorporated GPS module which will geo-tag the taken pictures

SD card slot because “we” photographers can never get enough space to store our pictures.

It sure looks promising, but I’d hold my horses before getting the $499 out of my pocket and wait for a couple of reviews that talk about image quality, the AF speed and burst speed. Available from this month we should know more soon. My biggest concern is if a compact camera with a 13.5 megapixel sensor can come up with a decent IQ.

Our friends at Testfreaks know more about it. Check them out.
