Britney Spears’ latest single “Womanizer” has hit the charts and gone straight through the roof:

Another week, another record-breaking jump to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Britney Spears makes a near-maximum 96-1 rise with “Womanizer,” returning to the top of the list for the first time since her debut single “…Baby One More Time” hit No. 1 in January 1999.”
The song jumped nearly one hundred places in the course of one week, which is some serious upward mobility. Reviews for the single where lack luster, the video was remarkable only thanks to Brit’s rehabbed bod, but somehow I thought the fans would keep their pop princess afloat, I just never expected they’d shoot her straight into the stratosphere! Congrats are definitely in order for the recovering singer, especially when you consider that:
Britney also nabbed the biggest opening week sales by a female artist on the digital download charts smacking down Mariah Carey’s “Touch My Body” by 200 clicks. The news is all the more impressive when you consider that it’s been almost 10 years since her last No. 1 song, which was “…Baby One More Time” in January 1999. I think a round of applause is most definitely in order here!”

A year after her disastrous comeback attempt at the MTV Video Music Awards, Britney Spears swept the event on Sunday, winning the first three Moonman statuettes of her career.

The pop singer, whose career has been overshadowed in recent years by a litany of personal woes, took home the awards for video of the year, best pop video and best female video, all for the track Piece of Me.

‘Wow, thank you, I’m in shock right now. I was not expecting this,’ she said at the end of the night as she accepted the shiny Moonman statue for video of the year.

‘This is such an honor to have this award right now.’

Spears gave similar speeches with her previous two prizes - best female video and best pop video - politely thanking God, her children and her record label before quickly leaving the stage.

Despite weeks of speculation, Spears did not perform, instead opening the show by delivering just four sentences.

She earned a few laughs during a pre-taped comedic segment with Superbad actor Jonah Hill, in which he repeatedly tried to trick her into kissing him.

The crowd was behind her from the start, with several stars offering their support on the red carpet.

‘I’ve always been a Britney Spears fan,’ said Ne-Yo. ‘I really want her to get out there and shut everyone’s mouth.’

Before you freak out and think he’s gone mad, no they were not together. In fact, they took care to avoid the same social scene.

Britney sipped water and hung out at the Cinevegas party at the Palms Place. K-Fed, on the other hand, partied at Strip House and drank his share of Jack. Brit went to bed early, while Kevin partied hard until well past 3 a.m. as he was honored as “Father of the Year”.

Ironic, isn’t it, that the amazing Daddy partied the night away. Where were his kids???

J.W.Mariott at Mumbai has always managed to get the best of Bollywood beauties to groove their body at the new year’s eve. One year it was the controversial performance from Mallika Sherawat for 50 lakhs, the year next was Bipasha Basu who pocketed in a whopping 90 lakhs for half an hour performance and guess who will give her performance this year. Definitely none other than Katrina Kaif who has given a series of hits at the box office lately including ‘Namastey London’, ‘Welcome’, ‘Race’ and latest being ‘Singh Is Kinng’.
Needless to say, the actress has been paid a huge sum of money amounting to about 1 crore for this performance. Noted designer Rocky S would be in charge of her costumes while Bosco-Caesar will be choreographing her act.
When contacted, Katrina, who is in New York where she is currently shooting for Kabir Khan’s film, New York, refused to confirm the amount but said, “Yes, I am performing at the Marriott on December 31. We have finalised the deal.”
“It will be good fun. I am looking forward to it. I have a very comfortable equation with Rocky S,” she said.
So what songs will Katrina shake a leg to? “We haven’t listed the songs as yet. But it will obviously be some of the hit songs from the films which I have acted in,” she added.

That Kamal Hassan’s daughter Shruti Hassan is making her acting debut in Soham Shah’s movie ‘Luck’ is stale now. The latest addition to it is that this multi-talented chic will also sing a song for the film.
It was but obvious owing to the fact that she is the lead vocalist of the rock band Extramentals. She also has the experience of playback singing, having sung her first song at the tender age of six for her father’s film ‘Thevar Magan’. ‘Luck’ has music by Pritam and it’s reported that one song is specially being composed for Shruti.
‘Luck’ is a fast-pace movie which has lots of outdoor adventure and Shruti’s friend Imran Khan stars opposite her in the film. In fact, it was Imraan who recommended Shruti to director Soham and then again suggested to add Shruti’s vocals to the film. Imran and Shruti grew up together because their families were closely knit.

Sameera Reddy joins ‘De Dana Dan’

Priyadarshan’s next comedy “De Dana Dan” has the star-cast of Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Suniel Shetty and Neha Dhupia. Now, an added member to this team is Sameera Reddy.

Sameera confirmed the news and said, “I’ve never worked with Priyan before. But I think he liked my comic timing in ‘Race’ where I played Anil Kapoor’s airheaded assistant. That’s how I am in ‘De Dana Dan’ too. I’ve always been a big Priyan fan, by the way.”

However, Sameera will have to wait for sometime before she gets to work with Priyadarshan because Priyan has shifted this comedy from November 2008 to January 2009 because he is busy with “Bam Bam Bhole” starring child actor Darsheel Safary of “Taare Zameen Par” fame.

And the director sure is excited about it.

“‘Bam Bam Bhole’ is not a small arthouse film. It’s a full-on entertainer. And it needs nurturing. Once I release ‘Billo Barber’, I need to promote ‘Bam Bam Bhole’ properly. ‘De Dana Dan’ with Akshay, Katrina, Sameera Reddy, Suniel Shetty and Neha Dhupia has gone forward by a few months.”

Belgian artist Carsten Holler will have his work “Revolving Hotel Room” displayed in a most unusual way at the Guggenheim Museum starting this weekend. Specifically, patrons will literally get to spend the night in the room, as they would any other hotel, completely alone in the museum (aside from the security guards, of course–don’t think about sneaking away with anything!)

The first to book the exhibit/room is actress Chloe Sevigny, who will spend the night there tomorrow. For an undisclosed price, Ms. Sevigny will get to stay completely alone in the unique space, composed of working, sleeping and dressing areas mounted on four slowly revolving glass discs.

“We were very interested in it, because it does in many ways encapsulate the concerns of these artists to really stretch the parameters of what a museum can be,” Guggenheim Chief Curator Nancy Spector told Reuters Television.

Part of a larger exhibition called “theanyspacewhatever”, “Revolving Hotel Room” is open to the public during the day beginning today. Overnight from now until January 7, however, it will be enjoyed by no more than two paid “guests” per evening. The stay includes the full-service amenities of a regular hotel, including a cafe/cinema showing films originally banned in Belgium (talk about random…).

Discount rates start at $259 for students on Monday night, rising to $549 by mid-week. During the weekend, however, for guests like Sevigny, something tells me the pricetag is a piece of work in and of itself. Oh, and by the way, in case you were thinking of booking, it’s already completely sold out. So you’ll have to think of a different way to squander hundreds of dollars.

Katrina Kaif, who is mostly seen in Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan starrers has finally dared to go against boyfriend Salman and after signing a movie opposite Salman’s biggest enemy, Shahrukh Khan, she has gone ahead and is working with Salman’s next big opponent, John Abraham.

The credit of getting this ‘almost impossible’ change to a ‘possible reality’ goes to Yash Chopra as he managed to convince Katrina to do a movie with John Abraham and Niel Nitin Mukesh in the lead. The movie which is tentatively titled ‘New York’ will be directed by Kabir Khan, who had earlier directed ‘Kabul Express’ with John in the lead.

It may be mentioned here that in one of his interviews Salman had expressed that he would not appreciate Kat working with SRK, Vivek or John. They say men are from Mars and girls are from Venus and Ayesha Takia will literally play one such girl with special powers in Milap Zaveri’s next film ‘Jaaane Kanhaah Se Ayie Hai’.

The movie tells the story of an alien girl from Venus who comes to Earth in search of true love. The cast includes Ritesh Deshmukh and Ruslaan Mumtaz and will be produced by Nikhil Advani and Mukesh Talreja.

Talking about the film director says,”I wanted to make a love story but with a different subject. There will be a lot of humour and emotions that the young generation will be able to relate to.”

Ayesha will be sporting a a futuristic look for the film. “She will definitely have a futuristic and funky look. Coming from Venus, she has special powers and we intend to add some special effects as well,” Zaveri says.

The film is slated to hit the floors in May.

Ayesha Takia is shooting down roles that require her to wear skimpy clothes or get intimate with her co-star because she doesn’t want to embarrass her family and boyfriend.

Ayesha is aware that her more uninhibited colleagues are benefiting while she refuses to get bold on camera.

‘But I don’t mind losing out on roles. At least 10 years from now I don’t want to look back and cringe at anything. I’ve a family and a boyfriend. And I don’t want to embarrass anyone,’ Ayesha, who was recently seen in Sunday in a clean role, told IANS.

‘There’re things that I wouldn’t do, like kiss and wear certain kinds of clothes. And yes that does put me at a disadvantage. But I’m very happy with the work that I’m getting. After Dor, I’m being taken seriously as an actress.’

She said no to Nagesh Kukunoor, who made Dor.

‘I just couldn’t do the kissing scene in Aashayein. We tried to find a way out, but it didn’t work out for me. Fortunately, for me, Nagesh is a dear friend. He didn’t hold my ‘no’ against me. We completed Tasveer with Akshay Kumar in Canada. And there was nothing there to make me uncomfortable.’

The actress has an exciting year ahead with films with big-league heroes.

‘I’m working with Akshay Kumar in Nagesh Kukunoor’s supernatural-psychological thriller Tasveer. Then I’ve Prabhu Deva’s Wanted, an action film with Salman Khan. Here I don’t have much to do. I hang around doing whatever leading ladies do - sing, dance and purse my lips when the hero fights.’

Candid in her self-assessment, she sees a boyfriend as no impediment to her career.

‘In fact, I’m so glad Farhan is no part of the industry. And that he’s a self-made man who loves me for who I am. I don’t think having a boyfriend is any problem for a career.

‘The only annoying part of having a boyfriend is that every time I’ve a release I’m informed by the press that I’m getting married in two months. It irritates me. When I get married I’ll announce it from the rooftops. I’m proud of my boyfriend.’

Last year she had a rough patch when Salaam-e-Ishq and No Smoking bombed.

‘Everyone kept asking why I reappeared in No Smoking in a double role. I’d like all questions about that film to be directed to Anurag Kashyap. I’ve no clue. It was a small role, just 10 days’ work. I’d do another film for Anurag anytime. He’s a friend.’
