Golden spider-silk cape by Simon Peers and Nicholas Godley

In this movie from the V&A museum in London, Simon Peers and Nicholas Godley talk about the cape they made by harvesting silk from over a million wild spiders in Madagascar. The silk is naturally golden in colour and the spiders take just a week to replenish their supply once released back into the wild.

The cape is on show at the museum until 5 June 2012. Read more about it in our story on Dezeen.

Dezeen Platform: Fraser Ross

In this movie filmed at our micro exhibition Dezeen Platform last autumn, Glasgow designer Fraser Ross presents his series of plant-like sculptures that react to the breath and touch of people around them.

This time-lapse movie by Sakiko Kohashi shows the quick assembly of Folk in a Box - a mobile performance venue designed by London architect Cristina Monteiro to provide just enough space for a single musician to play to an audience of one.

Cristobal Palma: Gimme Shelter! by Sebastián Irarrázaval and Hugo Mondragón

Photographer Cristobal Palma has sent us photographs and a movie that he shot of the Chilean Pavilion at the Shenzhen & Hong Kong biennale of urbanism/architecture 2011, where objects usually found in disaster relief shelters were used as furniture.

The pavilion was designed and curated by Chilean architects Sebastián Irarrázaval and Hugo Mondragón.

Mattresses nailed to the walls provided screens for film projection, while more were piled up in the centre of the room to create one giant bed for lounging on. Large water bottles and traffic cones were suspended from the ceiling as lamps.

Cristobal Palma: Pabellon Ultraligero Centrifugo by Clavel Arquitectos

This movie by photographer Cristobal Palma shows how children playing on roundabouts generate electrical power for three twirling parasols at an installation by Spanish studio Clavel Arquitectos in a Shenzhen public square.

Completed for the Shenzhen & Hong Kong biennale of urbanism/architecture 2011, the lightweight circular canopies reveal their golden undersides when they spin.

Silestone Slab Vases by Form Us With Love for Cosentino

This movie by Jonas Lindström shows the manufacture of vases by Swedish designers Form Us With Love, made from slabs of quartz compound normally used for kitchen and bathroom surfaces.

Designed to show off the material produced by Spanish brand Cosentino, the vases are constructed by slotting the pieces onto a metal frame and inserting a plastic core to hold water. Read more about the project and see photos in our story on Dezeen.

The project was presented as part of the designers’ exhibition Form Us With Friends at the Swedish Museum of Architecture during Stockholm Design Week.
