AKBAR’S GOLD COINS

This Akbar - Birbal story is just one of the many stories, which are an integral part of rich Indian heritage.

The wisdom of Birbal was unparalleled during the reign of Emperor Akbar. But Akbar’s brother in law was extremely jealous of him. He asked the Emperor to dispense with Birbal’s services and appoint him in his place. He gave ample assurance that he would prove to be more efficient and capable than Birbal. Before Akbar could take a decision on this matter, this news reached Birbal.

Birbal resigned and left. Akbar’s brother in law was made the minister in place of Birbal. Akbar decided to test the new minister. He gave three hundred gold coins to him and said, “Spend these gold coins such that, I get a hundred gold coins here in this life; a hundred gold coins in the other world and another hundred gold coins neither here nor there.”

The minister found the entire situation to be a maze of confusion and hopelessness. He spent sleepless nights worrying over how he would get himself out of this mess. Thinking in circles was making him go crazy. Eventually, on the advice of his wife he sought Birbal’s help. Birbal said, “Just give me the gold cons. I shall handle the rest.”

Birbal walked the streets of the city holding the bag of gold coins in his hand. He noticed a rich merchant celebrating his son’s wedding. Birbal gave a hundred gold coins to him and bowed courteously saying, “The Emperor Akbar sends you his good wishes and blessings for the wedding of your son. Please accept the gift he has sent.” The merchant felt honoured that the king had sent a special messenger with such a precious gift. He honoured Birbal and gave him a large number of expensive gifts and a bag of gold coins as a return gift for the king.

Next, Birbal went to the area of the city were the poor people lived. There he bought food and clothing in exchange for a hundred gold coins and distributed them in the name of the Emperor.

When he came back to town he organized a concert of music and dance. He spent a hundred gold coins on it.

The next day Birbal entered Akbar’s darbar and announced that he had done all that the king had asked his brother-in-law to do. The Emperor waited to know how he had done it. Birbal repeated the sequences of all the events and then said, “The money I gave to the merchant for the wedding of his son – you have got back while on this earth. The money I spent on buying food and clothing for the poor – you will get it in the other world. The money I spent on the musical concert – you will get neither here nor there.”

This is true even today.

The money you spend on friends is returned or reciprocated in some form or the other.

Money spent on charity gets converted into blessings from God which becomes your eternal property.

Money spent on pleasures is just frittered away!

So when you spend money, think a little, if not a lot!

Basketball has always been another world for me. i m one person on the court,one person off the court.My love for the game is unexplainable.. if we have a love for something, we ll go an extra mile to achieve it.. That basketball court is where i forget all my sorrows.Either winning or loosing, all i want to put that ball in dat basket, all i wantis to play and live the game...
it is always a home away from home.i blocks eveything out,every bad situation or whatever...When i am on the court,thats when actually i am at peace and ease.Now i m off the court because of a bad injury... no more practice sessions, no more tournaments... no more matches...I am gonna miss the fun and heat on the court, i m gonna miss my teammates, i m gonna miss them all....But my Love for the Game Never Goes Away...

Atlanta Hawks: The Hawks brought in Kirk Hinrich and Hilton Armstrong from the Wizards in exchange for Mike Bibby, Jordan Crawford, and Maurice Evans. This move makes them younger at the point guard position, but I feel they gave up too much.

Boston Celtics: Now here's a trade that came right at the buzzer. Desperate for another perimeter presence, the Celtics reportedly acquired Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic from the Thunder, but lost their talented defensive big man Kendrick Perkins along with Nate Robinson to OKC. This is a risky move for Boston, who have relied on Perkins' post defense in several tense playoff situations. Without Perk's toughness, there will be more pressure on Garnett, Glen Davis, and Shaq against the likes of Dwight Howard or the Lakers bigs. Then again, Perkins' value may have never been higher. On the other hand, Green is a talented player, a versatile inside-outside presence and a good defender who will strengthen the Celtics' bench and allow rest for the likes of Paul Pierce.

Cleveland Cavaliers: The Cavs brought in Baron Davis and a first round pick from the Clippers in exchange for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon. In a team without a leader, is Baron Davis really the solution? I don't think so, but the first round pick may be able to provide some redemption in the future.

Denver Nuggets: Acquired Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov, Kosta Koufous in exchange for Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Balkman, Shelden Williams, and Anthony Carter. The Nuggets may feel hard-pressed to have lost their franchise superstar in Anthony, but they have to be grateful that they weren't left empty-handed like the Cleveland Cavaliers last season. Unlike LeBron James, who left for free at the off-season, Anthony was traded mid-season, meaning that the Nuggets got back several young pieces to fill up their already deep squad. In Chandler, Felton, and Gallinari, they will be able to recover from the loss of Anthony and should steal sneak into the Western Conference Playoffs.

New Jersey Nets: The Nets couldn't get any of their targets in the offseason (LeBron, wade, Bosh, Boozer, Amare), and couldn't get their primary target this season (Anthony), so what was their move? They slyly target unsettled but talented point guard Deron Williams and away him away from Utah, in exchange for rookie forward Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, and two first round picks. Although Williams is a brilliant player, the Nets still don't have a good enough squad to get any short-term success, and since they have given away their draft picks, they will struggle to bring in young players through the draft either to support him. What remains to be seen now is how they will perform in the free-agency period in the off-season.

New York Knicks: Knicks acquired Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Corey Brewer, Renaldo Balkman, Shelden Williams, and Anthony Carter, sending Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Timofey Mozgov, and future draft picks to Denver, and sending Eddy Curry and Anthony Randolph to Minnesota. What can I say? This is a massive deal for New York. I have heard complaints that the Knicks may have given away too much for 'Melo, but to get one of the league's elite players, this type of a move hadto be made, especially since 'Melo was non-committal about his off-season plans. In the process, they picked up important pieces in Chauncey Billups, a natural leader, and defensive backup help in Brewer and Balkman. Also, the Knicks finally got rid of the albatross that Eddy Curry had become. This may not yet be a team challenging for a championship, but considering how down and lowly they were over the past decade, the Knicks look to have ressurected themselves well beyond the 2010-11 season.

Oklahama City Thunder: The Thunder made a bold move, giving away their third option in Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic in return for defensive presence Kendrick Perkins and back-up spark, Nate Robinson. I feel this is a significant move for the Thunder, who have good perimeter scoring options in Durant and Westbrook, have realised the importance of post presence in their bid for a deep playoff push.

Portland Trailblazers: The Blazers, a team which has lost Greg Oden to a serious injury and seen Brandon Roy slowed down by several injuries himself, brought in a new star to help revive their squad: Gerald Wallace from Charlotte. Wallace is one of the league's most versatile players and best defenders in return for Joel Przybilla and draft picks.

Utah Jazz: Utah lost Jerry Sloan, and soon after, traded away the player who was blamed for his departure, Deron Williams, to New Jersey. This was a smart trade, since Utah were unlikely to hold on to Williams past next offseason anyways. They received Devin Harris and rookie Derrick Favors in return, plus several draft picks. This is a deep team which may not do much this year but look to have a bright future.

Washington Wizards: Loaded with John Wall and Nick Young in their backcourt, the Wizards gave up their back-up point guard option Hinrich to the Hawks in return for an experienced head in Mike Bibby. This is a good move as Bibby will be a good senior player for this young team.

Michael Jordan

Basketball might have been in his genes, but Michael Jordan had to work hard to develop to his full potential. Being cut from the varsity basketball team in his first year at high school might have drove him to become the best basketball player in world history.

In his high school days, Michael played three sports: American football, basketball, and baseball. He always loved the two other sports with a passion, especially baseball. It was basketball; however, that would make him a world-famous athlete. As a senior, he became nationally recognized and was on his way to a promising collegiate career with the University of North Carolina. While playing there, he hit the game-winning shot against Georgetown University for the 1982 NCAA Basketball Championship during the last second. Before being drafted into the NBA by the Chicago Bulls, he was selected as the Naismith College Player of the Year Award. Even after entering the NBA, Jordan went on to finish his degree in Geography.

Jordan’s plethora of basketball and athletic awards are numerous. In his NBA career, he was awarded the Rookie of the Year Award for his first year playing and went on to be named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) a record five times, winning six NBA Championships. But, he was also one of the league’s most prized defensive threats as well, winning Defensive Player of the Year in 1988. In each NBA All-Star Game, Jordan has been the most dominant threat, winning the MVP Triple Crown Award no less than twice.

After breaking a bone in his foot in the third season of his career, Jordan worked at rehabilitating himself even more. He swam and shot free throws and other shots to keep his game in rhythm. When he re-joined his team and the league, he was an NBA powerhouse, averaging almost 40 points per game. But, even with such performances, Jordan still hadn’t obtained an NBA Championship Title.

Then in 1991, Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls won their first-ever Championship by beating Magic Johnson and the Los Angeles Lakers. In the next season, the Bulls won nearly 70 games in one season, setting a new record. The following year saw them win yet again, Jordan being the only player to ever win three consecutive NBA Finals MVP awards.

By 1993, the stress from the game and his celebrity career took a toll and he decided to retire. But, after a stint playing professional baseball, he returned to the Chicago Bulls two years later, where he became the league’s most dominant force again. After his first three consecutive NBA Championships, the Bulls went on again to win three more titles in a row. After retiring again, Jordan went on to become part-owner of the Washington Wizards, then came back to play with them for part of another season. Following, he retired once again, this time for good, as he owns most of and manages the Charlotte Bobcats
