Influential rapper Guru has dead aged 43, after a battle with cancer. The New York born MC had suffered cardiac arrest on March 2 and was in a coma for some time. A statement said: “Guru has passed away yesterday morning (April 19) after a long battle with cancer. “According to (producer) Solar, Guru suffered from the malicious illness for over a year and after numerous special treatments under the supervision of medical specialists failed, the legendary MC succumbed to the disease. Guru always tried to keep this harrowing diagnosis in private but in early 2010 he had to admit himself to hospital due to serious effects caused by the disease.”

Guru became famous after teaming up with DJ Premier in group Gang Starr. The duo released six studio albums between 1989 and 2003 and became famous for making “conscious rap” before splitting under acrimonious circumstances. Since then Guru had released a series of ‘Jazzmataz’ albums where he teamed up with classic jazz, soul and hip hop artists. He also continued to tour the world with a band and producer Solar.

Apple Demands iPhone

The latest on that alleged iPhone 4G prototype: Brian Lam, Gizmodo's editorial director, has published an official letter he received from Apple requesting that the device be returned immediately. Gizmodo believes that such official communication proves the device is real. However, it should be noted that this does not necessarily mean that the device is the next iPhone--just that it's an Apple prototype of some sort. The iPhone 4G prototype at least, that's what Gizmodo assumes it is--was reportedly found by an anonymous bar-goer at Gourmet Haus Staudt, a German beer garden in Redwood City, near San Francisco. The phone was discovered on a barstool at midnight on Thursday, March 19. The person who found the phone asked around the bar to see if anyone had lost an iPhone 3GS (the phone had a case on it that made it look like a 3GS), but nobody claimed it. The person then unlocked the phone and found the Facebook page of Apple software engineer, Gray Powell, still signed in. The person decided to try to return it in the morning.

Gizmodo says that the person woke up to find the phone dead--thanks to Apple's MobileMe service, which allows users to wipe their stolen iPhones of all data, remotely. The person then noticed the phone looked different from other iPhones--for one thing, it had a front-facing camera--and managed to remove the "disguise" case. Upon discovering that this iPhone was not like any other iPhone out there, this person promptly forgot their promise to find Gray Powell and return the phone, and started selling to the highest bidder. Did Gizmodo shell out $5,000 for its exclusive lost iPhone 4G story? Yes, says head of Gawker Media (the publisher of Gizmodo) Nick Denton, who tweeted earlier Monday, "Yes, we're proud practitioners of checkbook journalism. Anything for the story!" and "Does Gizmodo pay for exclusives? Too right!"

According to AOL's Daily Finance, Engadget had the chance to bid after it published the first fuzzy photos of the phone, but declined. Engadget editor in chief Joshua Topolsky says he doesn't believe in checkbook journalism as "it encourages awful behavior in tipsters." This is not the first time Gawker Media has paid for a story, either--in October 2009, Gawker reportedly paid a 25-year-old researcher for the confirmation that the (by then, infamous) "Balloon Boy" story was a hoax. Also, in January 2010, Gawker's tech blog Valleywag offered up to $100,000 for concrete details on the (then rumored) Apple tablet: $10k for pictures, $20k for video, $50k for pictures or video of Steve Jobs holding one, and $100k if you could put it in Valleywag's hands for an hour.

Apple wasn't too pleased with Valleywag's "Scavenger Hunt," however, and immediately sent Valleywag's editor in chief a letter saying that Valleywag had "crossed the line" by offering "a bounty for the theft of Apple's trade secrets," and demanded that Valleywag immediately discontinue the hunt. Which is why, of course, it's curious that Apple hasn't spoken up with regards to this latest "leak," if it is, in fact, that. The Daily Finance also suggests that Engadget may have been worried about the potential repercussions of buying a supposedly "lost and found" item. After all, California Penal Code Section 485 states : "One who finds lost property under circumstances which give him knowledge of or means of inquiry as to the true owner, and who appropriates such property to his own use, or to the use of another person not entitled thereto, without first making reasonable and just efforts to find the owner and to restore the property to him, is guilty of theft."

Since the person who found this prototype did see Gray Powell's Facebook page on the iPhone, and did plan on returning it to Powell (before, you know, Gizmodo accidentally dropped $5k their way), one could argue that, in accordance with Section 485, the phone was stolen. Perhaps that's why our anonymous tipster wanted to stay anonymous. As for Gizmodo? When Computerworld asked Denton if he and Gizmodo were worried about the potential ramifications of publishing what could be considered Apple trade secrets, Denton simply cited a January 2008 lawsuit by the Church of Scientology (when Gawker posted clips of a "private religious event") and said, "Formidable though Steve Jobs may be, the Church of Scientology has a more vicious reputation for litigation."

china earthquake today

What is different about the earthquake that struck the area of Yushu in Qinghai Province, China, early morning local time is that it occurred in the middle of one of Earth's tectonic plates, instead of at the junction between them as many earth quakes do. The China earthquake occurred along a fault along the northeastern part of the plateau, though scientists have yet to pinpoint that fault. "It's in the northeastern part of the Tibetan Plateau, which is a very active tectonic feature," Keller said. The earthquake that struck China in the early hours of the morning was different than some of the major temblors that have struck around the world so far this year in that it occurred in the middle of one of Earth's tectonic plates, instead of at the junction between them.

The 6.9-magnitude quake, according to estimates by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), struck at 7:49 a.m. local time (2349 GMT, 7:49 p.m. EDT) near the area of Yushu in Qinghai province. This area is part of the Tibetan Plateau, which stands over 3 miles (5 kilometers) above sea level. The Tibetan Plateau was created, along with the Himalayas, about 50 million years ago as part of the Indian subcontinent began to collide with Eurasia. But this earthquake didn't occur where the two plates that crunched together meet; instead, it occurred within the plateau, explained Randy Baldwin, a geophysicist at the National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Colo. The deadliest earthquake on record, which occurred in Shaanxi, China, and killed 830,000 people in 1556, was an intraplate earthquake. The New Madrid seismic zone in the central United States is the most seismically active intraplate region in North America. Microseismic earthquakes with magnitudes no greater than 2 occur on average every other day in this zone.

The plateau, where the recent quake occurred, experiences continued uplift from the processes that originally created it, and is also being squeezed by other forces, which create numerous faults in the area. Exactly what fault ruptured in this quake isn't yet known, but Baldwin said it is likely a shallow strike-slip type of fault, in which the two sides of the fault slide past each other to release pent-up energy. "It's an active area," Baldwin told LiveScience. But though the type of earthquake is different from those that struck Haiti and Chile in recent months, the signature of these quakes looks the same to the instruments that scientists use to measure them. "Earthquakes all share a common seismic signal," Baldwin said, which consists of a two-phase signal: First, so-called p-waves generated by the earthquake propagate around the world and are detected by seismometers, then come the s-waves. The timing differences are what allow seismologists to pinpoint the locations of earthquakes.

It will take time for the area that ruptured in the china earthquake today to settle down, and several aftershocks have already struck the region, ranging in magnitude from about a 4.8 to a 5.8, Baldwin said. The number and strength of the aftershocks should decrease with time, he added.

If we have two documents, assuming that the first document "Word document" and the second document "Word document2". Now, we want to combine these two documents into one document.
