Market research company IDC last week released some figures that puts Samsung’s smartphones ahead of the competition in the Middle East region. According to the report, Samsung smartphones contributed to almost 50 percent of the smartphone sales in the Middle East in the second quarter. The most startling fact of the report is that the Galaxy S III sold more in the same quarter compared to Samsung’s current flagship – Galaxy S4 and even Apple’s iPhone 5.

Personally, I've used the S III for 8 months and now the S4 for 4 months and feel that it IS a worthwhile upgrade from the S III.

Creating a Drop Down List in Excel

A drop down list allows you to enter data into an Excel spreadsheet from a preset list of entries. This can be done to make data entry easier or to limit the number of acceptable choices.

Type 1: Using a Drop Down List for Data Entry

Enter the following data into cells.

A1 - Liverpool
A2 - Real Madrid
A3 - Juventus
A4 - Bayern Munich
D2 - Club Name:

Click on cell E2 - the location where the results will be displayed.
Click on the Data tab.
Click on the Data Validation option from the ribbon to open the menu.
Click on the Data Validation in the menu to bring up the dialog box.
Click on Settings tab in the dialog box.
From the Allow menu choose List.
Click on the Source line in the dialog box.
Drag select cells A1 - A4 in the spreadsheet.
Click OK in the dialog box.
A down arrow should appear next to cell E2.
When you click on the arrow the drop down list should open to display the four club names.

Windows Operating System is the most widely used OS till date. Being a widely used OS, users have multiple application installed and running. Sometime users are not able to keep the License Key of those products in a safe place and hence they have to look for a way around to get it, if in case of re-installation of those applications. So, to retrieve the license key of any product here is a tool called key finder, designed by Belarc Advisor software.

Belarc Advisor software is a free diagnostic utility for Windows, which is capable to detect and show details about various hardware and software’s detail. It can retrieve license key of all the software’s that are installed on the computer using a product key.

The User Interface of the tool is poorly designed and presents the result in HTML format on browser. But, the amount of information the tool shows up is simply awesome. The tool captures the license key of the product from the registry and shows up name of software installed along with the product key. Since, Windows doesn't offer any such tool to retrieve license key so we have to rely on third party software.

How to find License Key of Any Product:

Download Belarc Advisor for Windows.
Once the installation is completed, it is going to update the software by connecting to the server.
After the software update is completed, it automatically scans the computer and will show the result on a webpage.
On the webpage, navigate to “Software Licenses” tab and you will find the license key of all the software’s those are installed on the computer.

WhatFont - The easiest way to identify fonts on web pages.

As a web developer or designer, you're sure to have come across a situation when you were on a website and wanted to know the font of a particular paragraph, title or even the whole website. Of course, you could do that by going into the looking at the CSS of the page or through the Chrome Developer Tools (totally awesome!) but WhatFont extension makes it simpler. Note that this is an extension only for Google Chrome.

All you need to do is click the WhatFont button in the Chrome Toolbar and hover your mouse over any text whose font family you wish to identify. The answer will instantly show up as as tool-tip. You can click the text to identify the font style including the size, line height and the color in hexadecimal code. It also detects font services like Adobe’s Typekit and Google Fonts used for serving web fonts.

The Premier League 2013-14 season is just a few hours away, with Liverpool hosting Stoke in the opener. This season has to be definitely one of the most open compared to all the previous, now that Sir Alex Ferguson has FINALLY retired.

Jose chetan is back at Chelsea. Moyes at United. Martinez at Everton. Pellegrini at City. Wenger is STILL there at Arsenal. Brendon Rodgers and André Villas-Boas gets their second and crucial season at Liverpool and Tottenham.

Not a lot of player movement as expected before the transfer window opened. But there's the frantic 14 days still left which could see Suarez and Rooney jumping ship. Manchester City has had quite a makeover especially upfront with the departures of Tevez and Balotelli and other players coming in.

So yes, it should be an entertaining one to the die-hard-faithfuls and the neutrals alike.

Fan jailed for hugging Cristiano Ronaldo

The fan who was jailed for invading the pitch during the International Champions Cup match between Real Madrid and Chelsea to hug Cristiano Ronaldo last week has stressed that he has no regrets over his actions.

Ronald Gjoka, 19, ran onto the pitch in the 67th minute to embrace his idol, only to be arrested by local police and taken to jail for trespassing and disorderly conduct.

Gjoka spent the night in prison before he was allowed to leave the day after, yet he has stressed that the moment was worth the punishment.

“Honestly, first thing was look straight, find Cristiano and don’t look back. Just go,” Gjoka told Local10.

“I decided to add a little knee slide on it just for a little celebration. I think Ronaldo always does that celebration so I thought that he would find it funny, and he did, he gave it a little laugh.

“But after that, I gave him a big hug, told him you’re one of my biggest idols, always followed you and I said, ‘Please, Ronaldo, don’t let the cops take me,’ and that’s when Ronaldo gave me a very big hug.

“I got the opportunity to talk to Ronaldo. It was a unique opportunity and I had to take it. It was worth the detention.”

I'm overly impressed by Ronaldo's reaction towards the fan, realizing what it means to that boy who risked so much just to meet him. Nowadays, the players just push them off (or walk over them as in the Eden Hazard-ballboy incident ! )

Usain Bolt has been almost as famous for his posturing in front of the camera as he has been for his incredible sprinting. Yet for all those thousands of poses, the photograph that defines his career has now been taken in the most unguarded of moments by sheer chance.

French photographer Olivier Morin snapped a shot that would have been a beautiful photograph on a dark and stormy night no matter what the circumstances. But the photography gods saw to it that a bolt of lightning crackled down behind the stadium at the exact moment the picture was taken.

If you use Gmail, you would definitely have noticed the new tabs that separate your emails for you. I gave it a shot for 2 days and had enough of it. An inbox is an inbox — and not two or five. It would have been useful if there was an option to add our own tabs! Here's how to disable this feature, if you haven't done so already.

Go to Settings (the gear icon in the top right) and select "Configure Inbox" from the drop-down menu.

Uncheck any tabs you don't want to appear in your inbox. You can't uncheck "Primary." Click Save.

Yahoo to Update Its Logo!

Yahoo unveiled a new logo today with a sans serif font similar to the ones used in other companies’ recent image overhauls, but keeps its purple color and oft-maligned exclamation point. That logo is just the first of 30 variations Yahoo will show off over the next month on its homepage and other sites before the final version is revealed on September 5th.

Kuwait City and the Saudi capital of Riyadh have been listed among the top 20 most unfriendly cities in the world by readers of a prestigious US-based travel magazine.

American magazine Condé Nast Traveler’s latest survey of ‘The Friendliest and Unfriendliest Cities in the World’ listed two Gulf cities among the top 20 least attractive to visit.

Belgium: The new footballing superpower in the making?

A new breed of footballing stars are quietly making their mark on European football. As these stars continue to progress, it’s clear that it won’t be long before Belgium are dining at international football’s top table. I was surprised when I saw the squad list of the Belgian national team. Most of these are rising (if not established) stars in top clubs all across the European Leagues. This plethora of youngsters mixed with experience means that this future XI is a truly frightening prospect on paper.

Goalkeepers
In Simon Mignolet they have one of the Premier League’s top goalkeepers. They also have Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, who at just 20 years of age has established himself as La Liga’s most consistent goalkeeper as a result of some stunning performances on loan at Atletico Madrid.

Defenders
Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is joined by Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen and Arsenal’s Tomas Vermaelen in defence. Bayern Munich’s Daniel Van Buyten also forms part of a resolute group of defenders.

Midfielders
Belgium’s greatest strength lies in their midfield, with the likes of Everton’s Marouane Fellaini and Tottenham’s Moussa Dembele playing starring roles. Zenit St. Petersburg’s €40 million star Axel Witsel is in good company, with Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Racing Genk’s experienced Thomas Buffel too.

Strikers

BlackBerry Messenger for Android coming first to Samsung Galaxy devices in Africa

Good news for BBM addicts, the BlackBerry Messenger for Android will be coming first to Samsung’s Galaxy-branded tablets and smartphones across Africa. This is according to a recent online press release. BBM will “form part of Samsung Messaging Hub as a complementary addition to the current slate of propriety and third-party messaging services that Samsung customers enjoy,” and will also be available through the Google Play Store.

I feel that its a little too late to enter the non-Blackberry realm and with powerful and established cross-platform apps like WhatsApp, WeChat, LINE and KakaoTalk, the future doesn't look too bright for Blackberry (honestly, it hasn't for quite some time now!). It would be interesting to know the usage stats of Samsung’s ChatOn app once the BBM app will be available worldwide.

Caribbean Premier League (CPLT20)

I was surprised to see this come up on TV and did some research and found out that the Caribbean Premier League (abbreviated to CPL or CPLT20) is an annual Twenty20 cricket tournament held in the Caribbean by the West Indies Cricket Board. It was created in 2013 and replaced the Caribbean Twenty20 as the premier Twenty20 competition in the Caribbean. It is currently sponsored by Limacol and thus officially titled the Limacol CPL.

The tournament is played between six teams and is divided into a group stage and a knockout stage. In the group stage, the teams each play ten matches overall, three of which are at home. This unusual format occurs because all six teams are co-located at a single playing site for five sequential matches of the tourney, then the whole tournament moves to a new location for five more games (and so on). Six stadiums are used, each a home field for one of the teams. The playoff stage includes two semi-finals and a final to determine the winner of the tournament. All three of the elimination playoff games will be played at Queen's Park Oval.

The tournament includes six franchises with 15 contracted players each, including a maximum of four international players and four players under the age of 23. Each team has one local and one international franchise player.

The tournament is currently being broadcast on Sony Six (HD and SD), though the timings are pretty awkward considering the fact that its happening in the other half of the world. For teams, fixtures, results and more information, check out their official website.

Google Will Soon Let You Locate, Ring and Remote Wipe Your Android Phone From Its Upcoming Web-Based Device Manager

Google finally has an answer to Apple's Find My iPhone. Android users had to resort to 3rd party apps until now. Google today announced that it’ll launch a new Android Device Manager later this month that will allow you to locate and ring your misplaced (or stolen) device and perform a remote wipe so your data doesn't end up in the wrong hands.

The service, Google says, will be available on devices running Android 2.2 or up and judging from the announcement, the Android Device Manager site will feature a dedicated area for pinging your lost device. It’s not clear what else users will be able to do on the new Device Manager site, however.

Overall, of course, this new service looks a lot like Apple’s Find My iPhone feature. You’ll be able to make your phone ring at maximum volume, for example. The locator feature will highlight your phone’s location on a map and remote wiping just takes a few clicks. Unlike on Apple’s platform, though, it doesn't look like users will be able to send messages to their lost phones or use something akin to Apple’s remote lock tool.

American Hustle, due on Christmas Day 25th December 2013, looks set to be a hit, judging by the first trailer (more of a teaser) and more so because of its all-star cast.

Judging by the roles in recent years, the combination of Christian Bale + Bradley Cooper + Jeremy Renner + Amy Adams + Jennifer Lawrence can't collectively make a bad movie!

Storyline:
A fictional film set in the seductive world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock our nation, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning British partner and lover Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild unhinged FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that's as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmen Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Facebook announced this morning that it is launching “embedded posts.” Essentially, you can now embed a Facebook post, picture, or video in any website, anywhere, as long as the post is public. The process is identical to embedding YouTube videos on your blog.

Once embedded, a post is like a little bit of Facebook living on your website. Visitors can like the post, and share it right from your blog. In addition, visitors can like the page from which it originated right from the embedded post, or, if a post has been published by an individual, they can follow the original poster right from the embedded post.

Here’s an example of an embedded post:

The posts allow about 100-150 words within the embed; to read longer posts you’ll have to click “See more” and follow the link back to the original post on Facebook. In addition, to comment on a post, visitors will have to follow a link back to Facebook.

Real Madrid’s willingness to smash the world transfer record to sign Gareth Bale has been football’s biggest talking point this week with reports indicating the Spanish giants are prepared to spend as much as 100 million euros to recruit him from Tottenham.

Spending such a vast amount - which works out as £87.3 million in British money – has led to debates over football’s inflationary transfer market and the true value of the Wales winger, who admittedly had a stunning season for Spurs in 2012-13.

Bale might be the reigning PFA Player of the Year, PFA Young Player of the Year and Footballer of the Year, but is he worth £87.3m? Is any player worth quite that much, Lionel Messi aside?

To put Bale’s eye-watering valuation into perspective, Eurosport have pieced together a theoretical XI comprising other players who have moved clubs this summer, with the team’s total value coming in at just under what Madrid are apparently willing to pay for the Spurs star.

That makes a grand total of £86.7 million.

The Golden Boy is an award that is given by sports journalists to the young player from Europe perceived to have been the most impressive during a season. It was established by Italian sports newspaper Tuttosport in 2003. All nominees must be under the age of 21 and play in a European nation's top tier.

Telangana: The 29th Indian state would be world's 33rd largest country

India's ruling coalition government agreed to create a 29th state – Telangana – after decades of protests on the matter.

While Telangana may take a few months to be officially created once approval makes it through the Indian parliament, no major political party is opposing it, highlighting the popularity of its demand.

The southern state of Andhra Pradesh will be divided in order to create the new state. Ten of Andhra Pradesh’s 23 districts will be devoted to Telangana (which means "land of the Telugu-speaking"), with Hyderabad, one of India's leading IT hubs and the current capital of Andhra Pradesh, slated to be a shared capital for the next 10 years. During those years Hyderabad stands to benefit, despite some initial hurdles, say proponents.

"Hyderabad will benefit by being capital of Telangana and getting rid of the mafia of coastal Andhra, which has illegally occupied land in Hyderabad and affected investment here," says Biksham Gujja, a scientist who has been an active pro-Telangana ideologue. "This is good for Hyderabad and good for India," Dr. Gujja adds, "as India is too large and needs smaller states for better governance."

With roughly 40 million people, Telangana "would be the world's 33rd largest country by population," he notes.
