‘Iron Sky’ Trailer Gives Us Something New to Fear: Moon Nazis:

Listen, everybody knows that eventually a world-beating threat is going to come out of its hiding place on the dark side of the moon and try to take over Earth. That’s just obvious. What the upcoming SXSW midnight movie Iron Sky does is present our eventual moon-birthed doom with an interesting twist. It asks the question, what if the hulking space armada that eventually threatens the well-being of free folk everywhere is actually the Nazis regrouped and back for a second go-around at world domination? Crap, why didn’t I think of this before? Of course this is what the Nazis have been up to!

Energia Productions have been teasing this movie for quite a while now, but now that it’s ready to hit the festival circuit, they’ve hit us with a full-length trailer that, more than any thing else, proves how far you can stretch a $10m budget if you’re absolutely, batshit crazy. This movie seems to have all sorts of spaceship stuff, all sorts of battle sequences, myriad cities being destroyed; and it’s all presented alongside that patented, iconic production design that only the Nazis can pull off.

Give the new Iron Sky trailer a look to see just how warped in the head our Nazi overlords are, and what sort of over-the-top tech they’ll be using to blow us all to smithereens. It doesn’t hurt to be prepared, right?

I mean really, is there anybody who has ever made evil look as good as the Nazis? Their soldiers are all shiny black leather and death. Their giant moon base is in the shape of a swastika. That’s attention to detail that even Steve Jobs would have been impressed by. You know, if Steve Jobs was a mass murderer instead of a guy who made gadgets.

Iron Sky will have its North American premiere at next month’s SXSW Film Festival.

This cartoon by Martin Rowson from The Guardian portrays Republican presidential primary candidates Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney as trains racing neck and neck along the same track.

COMMENTARY
Following Gingrich's decisive victory in the South Carolina primary, the contest for the Republican nomination now seems to be a two-horse (or should that be two-train?) race. In Rowson's cartoon, the trains are heading full speed for a sharp bend in the track, suggesting that the battle between Gingrich and Romney will cause the Republican presidential campaign to come off the rails (leaving Obama as the winner?) The other candidates can be seen way behind on handcars.

NOTES
1. The Gingrich train's carriages are in the shape of teapots—a reference to the Tea Party movement, which helped Gingrich win in South Carolina.
2. The pig with wings on the telephone wire is meant to evoke the expression 'pigs might fly', a humourous/sarcastic remark used to indicate the unlikeliness of some event (such as a Republican winning the presidential election).
3. Chuff chuff is the sound made by a steam train.

In 2011, there were 252 searches for the word reductive in the Macmillan Dictionary. So in the 7 days from 13th to 19th January inclusive, we would have expected to see 5.

In fact, we had well over 2,000 individual searches for the word reductive.

The reason, it would appear, was a comment made by Madonna with reference to a Lady Gaga song, Born This Way. In the course of an interview with Cynthia McFadden on ABC Radio, Madge said:

When I heard it on the radio, I said, ‘That sounds very familiar. It feels reductive.’

The interviewer, sensing that this might be a veiled criticism of Lady Gaga, asked if this was a good thing. Madonna ‘smiled coyly, took a sip of tea and said, “Look it up.”’

And a lot of people did just that.

After many non auxiliary verbs we can use the infinitives of other verbs. Some of these verbs can be followed by an object + infinitive. Note that most of these verbs cannot be followed by ing forms. Common verbs that can be followed by infinitives are given below. Example sentences are given to provide context.

Which verbs can be followed by infinitives? Well, there are no specific rules so you have to memorize them.

Solving life’s everyday problems: How to Get Every Last Drop of Cream Out of a Tube:

Don't you wish you could squeeze all of very last portions of an expensive hand, face or body cream out of the tube? There's always a lot left in the cap area that could be at least two or more applications. Here's a way to get every last drop out of the tube and cap it off too.

Edit Steps

Keeping the cap on the tube, squeeze from the end to get most of the cream to the cap area.
Take a pair of sharp scissors and cut a section (about a third) from the middle of the tube.
Remove the cream from the middle section and end section and place into the cap section. Discard the middle section.
Slide the end section over the cap section squeezing the tube to fit into it like a sleeve.
Replace the end over the cap section.
To use the cream, remove the end and dip your fingers into the cap section.

Edit Tips

Always replace the end covering the cap section to avoid drying out the remaining cream.
This only works for soft plastic tubes that can be cut with scissors.

Edit Warnings

Do not cut metal tubes as these edges can cut.
This method is intended for use by adults and is not recommended for children.
This is intended for standard size and shaped tubes, and will not work for unusually shaped containers.
