Said another way, you can choose a perception that empowers you. As you read the article I invite you to remember that your thoughts do not rule you, but rather you rule them.

http://hubpages.com/hub/Difference-Between-Perception-And-Reality

Lorelei F is a Writer, Speaker, and Activist who works for enlightenment and has coined the term Second Hand Addict.

Challenge Your Own Beliefs and Perceptions

Suffice it to say that our perception of how it is is almost never the same as 'how it is.' And I have been challenging myself a lot recently on the thoughts and perceptions in my head.

For instance, recently I had been thinking I was doing lousy at my job. I contemplated that I might be heading toward being fired. So I asked my boss. Whereupon she said I was doing a fantastic job. She had no problem at all. The only problem was my compulsive need to do everything perfectly- and to judge myself a failure if I did not achieve everything all at once.

So I am doing a big experiment. I have always considered myself a "Mary Tyler Moore" party type person. In other words, I have a thought that whatever party or event I have will be a flop of no-shows. But I also have this nagging feeling that this is only my perception, and not the truth.

So I am having a huge fundraising event to fly in the face of my perception- and also raise money for the non-profit I am creating. I am targeting having 200 friends and their friends at the event. And I am planning for big events and a blow-out success. I am planning it for early December and I will let you know how it goes.

Meanwhile, jump on my bandwagon and start challenging your own perceptions and beliefs. Go ahead and do it. It is fun and enlightening too.
Lorelei F is a Writer, Speaker, and Activist who works for enlightenment and has coined the term Second Hand Addict.

The Brain is a Bad Neighborhood- Don't go There Alone

I am starting to learn how to dance. I want to learn Salsa, Latin, and Ballroom dancing. Now I grew up in 1980s in the days of rock and disco. These were the times when men and women danced a foot or so apart and they both did whatever they felt like doing. Dancers were separate, but together. And I am quite proficient at that sort of dancing. But the concept of dancing with a partner is a bit foreign, and has me nervous.

So I went to a Latin dance party. The kind where they have a lesson and then everyone dances afterward. Fortunately everyone was very welcoming to a newcomer like me. And at one point a gentleman asked me to dance. He must have sensed I was new and he kept saying "just follow the beat 1,2,3,&, just follow the beat." And then, after a minute or so, and quite out of the blue, he said thank you very much, and was done.

I meandered off of the floor, a bit melancholy. And as I did so a thought began to formulate in my ever-critical brain. The thought was "He got off the floor because I was so off the beat, that he couldn't even dance with me." The thought lingered with me. And I listened to it. Soon I was extrapolating on the thought. "Maybe I should just sit down. People come here want to dance, not to babysit. I should really save these nice men from feeling obliged to ask a newcomer to dance." And so on, and so forth. And pretty soon I was so negative, that I didn't even want to dance anymore.

Fortunately I am highly trained in recognizing and confronting my own stupidity, especially since I have plenty of stupidity to practice on. So I went up to that same gentleman and I asked him, in my nicest way, to tell me if he had stopped dancing with me because I was so off the beat.

He laughed a true belly laugh. Then he smiled at me and said "No, It was just that the song ended." At that, I had to laugh too.

And yet, as I ponder this episode I can see that we as human beings go through life having thoughts and thinking they are true. We act on them. And we never consider that most of the things that we think about other people and why they do what they do are completely, profoundly, and without question untrue. So that the one thing most of us can rely on is that our own minds (with perhaps the greatest of intentions to help and assist us) are actually our worst enemies.

And so I say, the brain is a bad neighborhood- don't go there alone. Always check to see if what you think is going on, truly is going on. Because I, for one, had a great time dancing after that.

You can't beat this for busting up your existing beliefs.

This is an amazing tool for your mind.

Also take a life-altering course called The Landmark Forum. Let's take a look.

You walk into the room at a party and see a handsome man. He has on black jeans and a sexy black shirt. You are attracted to his chic sensuality. You are about to walk over to him when he turns his head and glares at you with a look of disdain. The look is clear. It says, ‘Stay away, I’m not interested.’

You stop dead in your tracks, and make a beeline for the buffet instead. After that you feel uncomfortable. It’s the white outfit, which is way too girlish and naive. Perhaps you should have worn the V-cut black dress. Maybe yesterdays french-fries are showing all over your hips in this monstrous filmy thing. At the party, you don’t mingle much. You wait for the long, boring evening to end. Whereupon you trudge home, alone, to your empty apartment.

Now here’s what happened with the man in black. After he glared at you, he turned back to the guy he was standing with and said “Holy cow, what kind of vodka did they put in this thing. It tastes like I’m drinking DW40.”

His look of disdain was actually a reaction to his drink. He never even saw you until later, when he meandered over to the buffet and saw this vision in white. She was lovely, but she had an aloof look on her face. It was an above-it-all look. Still she was very appealing, in an odd sort of way. But he decided he was not up for the certain rejection, and walked away.

This is the difference between perception and reality, and it begs the question, “Is there anything we can truly call reality.” Both of these people knew how the world was. They believed they knew the very thoughts in someone else’s head. Because of this, what could have been a beautiful romance never even got started.

Now we usually don’t see it, but this kind of thing happens to us all the time. We think we know how the world is. We think we know what goes on in the rest of the world and other people’s heads. But what we are truly perceiving is the world according to us- our judgments, assessments, and a huge load of past experiences and firmly held beliefs that color them.

Can you imagine how many opportunities we miss that we don’t even know about?

Stay tuned to my articles as we explore the difference between perception and reality, and how you can get power in your life by setting your limiting beliefs and assumptions aside. The question will constantly be, “Do I really know what I think I know?” It is an engaging question, and one that can intrigue us forever with endless possibilities.

You can't beat this for busting up your existing beliefs.

This is an amazing tool for your mind.

Also take a life-altering course called The Landmark Forum.
