Besides, I know a lot of people who have hypertension, especially my relatives and my mother. This topic is always interesting to me, so I choose this as my new post to inform my readers about this very important matter.

Primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH) is a rare disease characterized by elevated pulmonary artery pressure with no apparent cause. PPH is also termed precapillary pulmonary hypertension or, more recently, idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH). The diagnosis is usually made after excluding other known causes of pulmonary hypertension. Dresdale and colleagues first reported a hemodynamic account of IPAH in 1951(http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/301450-overview).

In medicine, pulmonary hypertension (PH) is an increase in blood pressure in the pulmonary artery, pulmonary vein, or pulmonary capillaries, together known as the lung vasculature, leading to shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting, and other symptoms, all of which are exacerbated by exertion. Pulmonary hypertension can be a severe disease with a markedly decreased exercise tolerance and heart failure. It was first identified by Dr. Ernst von Romberg in 1891.[1] According to the most recent classification, it can be one of five different types: arterial, venous, hypoxic, thromboembolic or miscellaneous

Signs and symptoms

Because symptoms may develop very gradually, patients may delay seeing a physician for years. Common symptoms are shortness of breath, fatigue, non-productive cough, angina pectoris, fainting or syncope, peripheral edema (swelling of the limbs which commonly manifests around the ankles and feet), and rarely hemoptysis (coughing up blood). Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) typically does not present with orthopnea or paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea, while pulmonary venous hypertension typically does.

In order to establish the cause, the physician will conduct a thorough medical history followed by a physical examination. A detailed family history is established to determine whether the disease might be hereditary|familial. A history of exposure to drugs such as cocaine, methamphetamine, alcohol leading to cirrhosis, and smoking leading to emphysema are considered significant. A physical examination is performed to look for typical signs of pulmonary hypertension, including a loud P2 (pulmonic valve closure sound), (para)sternal heave, jugular venous distension, pedal edema, ascites, hepatojugular reflux, clubbing etc. Evidence of tricuspid insufficiency is also sought and, if present, is consistent with the presence of pulmonary hypertension (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulmonary_hypertension).

High Paying Keywords: Really for Real for websites, blogs etc...

This issue came into my being when I searched a lot of sites about how to earn money in websites and blogs. I used google search engine to surf about all the things I wanted to know because even until today I'm sure this is the best search engine. One of the ways I found out was to use High Paying Keywords in websites and blogs. I was not really paying attention about this, maybe because it's hard to believe. There were many questions that lingered my mind like what are these keywords, were these for real and some others who stopped me from entertaining this issue.

Recently, someone I know asked me help about how to have a blog site and how to blog. He was interested when he and his family heard from DXAB 1296, an ABS-CBN radio station in Davao City, that some bloggers earned P40,000 per month. This pushed him to be interested undoubtedly and asked me immediately. I was then eager to help him about this stuff. To make the story short, I created a blog for him and I tried to use High Paying Keywords. The result was shocking and overwhelming. I couldn't believe that it's true. His earning is really good, something to be reckoned with. Before, when I started blogging, I didn't give important about this. So the outcome was quite alright and still tolerable. Now, "I'm convinced" using High Paying Keywords for websites and blogs is really for real. Actually, this is just one of the best ways to earn good in blogging.

For more info. about this, just leave messages at the chatbox or email me at noobeler@gmail.com

Microsoft Sees Billion-Dollar Cloud Business, Even in Tough Times

I have to say, it is refreshing to see a story with a figure in the billions that isn’t referring to losses or bailouts of any kind. Even though Microsoft has been criticized for moving its software to the cloud too slowly, its timing can’t be too bad. The sad state of the economy may lead to stellar revenues for online Office and other apps, says Microsoft Business Division President Stephen Elop.

A full picture of the Windows Azure cloud computing OS and of the details of Office online are coming some time in 2009. And in five years, according to Elop: Half of the revenue for Exchange, SharePoint and Dynamics CRM will come from online versions. InformationWeek’s John Foley writes that at current sales and growth rates, SharePoint online could be a billion-dollar business within three years; SharePoint along with Exchange, Dynamics CRM, Office Communications and other online software could be a billion-dollar cloud business within two years. Foley leaves Office itself out completely.

Elop says the desire among businesses to help their bottom lines as much as possible with online software is stronger than ever, thanks to the economy. Foley says that’s something almost all the other cloud vendors already know.

Elop promises that customers can expect to hear more shortly about a range of options for Office applications: “ad-funded, subscriptions-based, traditional licensing fees, and so forth.”

Source: http://www.itbusinessedge.com/blogs/msh/?p=231

The main component of Drug Rehabilitaion

Drug and alcohol use can be traced back to 4000 B.C., in Egypt. By the 19th century, active substances were being extracted from the raw materials, and these psychoactive substances were being sold without any regulations. By the early 1900s there were an estimated 250,000 drug addicts in the United States. The anti-war upheaval of the 1960s brought with it a dramatic increase in drug use and increased social acceptance. The 1980s saw a decline in most drug use, with a slight increase in Cocaine use. Despite this overall decline, most Americans still regard illegal drug use as one of the nation's most serious problems. Opinion polls show the public favors a variety of different approaches to the drug problem. In addition to strict laws, it is vital to effectively treat individuals already suffering from drug dependence and substance abuse, through education, therapy, medicine, and group support. Drug rehabilitation is a key component to a successful campaign against the use of illegal drugs.

At its fundamental level, humans use substances such as alcohol and psychoactive drugs because these substances give the user a feeling of pleasure. Pleasure is a very powerful force. Our brains are wired in such a way that if you do something that gives you pleasure you will probably want to do it again. All drugs that are addicting can energize and enhance the brain's pleasure circuit. Addiction is a chronic disease that affects ones brain, and ones behavior. Addicted individuals abuse drugs without regard to the consequences of health, relationships, money, work etc. It is a consuming disease that not only effects the individual directly, but others indirectly. If left untreated, this disease can lead to the social death, as well as the actual death of the inflicted individual. Proper management must be instituted immediately to return the individual to a life that is more manageable, and drug free. A program of drug rehabilitation best achieves this goal.

Drug rehabilitation is the process of medical or psychotherapeutic treatment for substance abuse. The goal of any drug rehabilitation program is to provide comprehensive drug treatment and alcohol rehabilitation services, and introduce individuals to a new lifestyle free of chemicals. Successful treatment of substance abusers depends upon the severity and nature of the addiction, as well as motivation. Some treatment programs use medicines that neutralize the effects of the drug. Acupuncture has also been successful in treating the cravings that accompany drug withdrawal. Comprehensive substance abuse counseling and education is another component for a successful plan. Evaluating the efficacy of any treatment plan is difficult because of the chronic nature of drug abuse, and the fact that the disease is usually complicated by personal, social, and health factors.

Statistics show that getting sober is easy; staying sober is the hard part, and the first year of recovery is the most difficult. It may take a number of attempts before success is achieved. Nobody chooses to become a drug addict or alcoholic, this disease cannot be wished away, it has to be treated.

Source: http://www.streetdirectory.com/travel_guide/27978/medical_conditions/drug_rehabilitation_the_key_component.html

Symptoms and Issues of Pregnancy

Early Symptoms of Pregnancy
The earliest symptoms of pregnancy are breast changes and fatigue. These alone shouldn't make you think you are pregnant, as they are very common. More specifically, the breasts become tender or some women describe a tingling sensation.

Next, of course, is a missed period. This occurs at about 2 weeks after fertilization. Obviously, the more regular your periods are, the more reliable having no period is as a sign.

Nausea may begin at about 4 to 6 weeks. This is euphemistically called Morning Sickness. As many women can attest, it can occur at any time of the day. Increased breast size and nodularity or "lumpiness" can be noticed as early as the second month. Darkening of the area around the nipples will follow. Needing to urinate more often will also occur. This is due to enlarging womb, which presses on the bladder early on, before it further enlarges and moves into the abdomen. Some women may also have an aching sensation or heaviness in the pelvis.

Bleeding or a "Period" does NOT mean you can't be pregnant
More importantly, though, the presence of bleeding does not mean you are not pregnant. About 25% of all pregnant women have some bleeding or spotting in the first three months of pregnancy. Many women mistake this bleeding for their period and underestimate their due dates by a month or so. The question to ask yourself is "Is this bleeding exactly the same as my usual period? Is it at the same time of the month, the same number of days? am I using the same number of pads or tampons?" Again, the more regular your periods are, the more reliable a sign of pregnancy any noticed changes will be.

Though pregnancies that have early bleeding do have a higher rate of spontaneous abortion, most continue on without problems. A small amount of bleeding without pain is not a cause for alarm. Pain or heavy bleeding, and especially both, is more concerning.

Taking the Pill does NOT mean you can't be pregnant
Getting pregnant while on the pill, when used according to instructions, in ideal situations, is extremely rare. However, real life is not standard. Common situations that increase the chance of failure of the pill are: certain antibiotic use, illness involving vomiting or diarrhea (both lead to lack of absorption), missing pills, and even taking the pill at different times on different days.

Pregnancy Tests
Home pregnancy tests are pretty accurate, if you follow the instructions exactly and are at least 10-14 days late on your period. Be aware that proteins in your urine can cause urine pregnancy tests to turn positive, when you are not pregnant. Very active, athletic women, like distance runners, and triathletes, typically have proteins in their urine.

In general, a positive result (telling you that you are pregnant) is less likely to be an error than a negative result. So, in other words if it says you are pregnant, you are probably pregnant. If it says you are not pregnant, but you still think you might be, re-take the test later. Unclear results often occur for pregnant women who used the test earlier than it was designed for, or women who make minor procedural errors in developing the test, or those who have proteins in the urine.

Blood pregnancy tests can detect pregnancy as early as 8 days after conception. They are more precise than the urine pregnancy tests. These are not typically done before a missed period, unless there are other medical reasons.

What to do in the Meantime
There may be a few weeks in between the first suspicions of pregnancy and actual confirmation. So, what should you do in the meantime?

Just take good care of yourself. You deserve it anyway.

Stop taking any over the counter medications. If you smoke, drink alcohol, or use any recreational drugs, stop those too. If you are taking any prescriptions, call the doctor who prescribed them and find out if they are OK to continue. Doctors often tell women of childbearing age if a medication should be discontinued, if the woman thinks she might be pregnant, at the time the prescription is written. So it is unlikely that you would have a medication like this, and not know it.

If you are taking the pill, and think you might be pregnant anyway, discontinue the pill. Use alternative birth control methods, like condoms, until you are sure, one way or the other. Your doctor will give you instructions on re-starting the pill, if you are not pregnant.

If you are trying to conceive, well, just keep trying. Intercourse does not pose any risk to early pregnancy.

Get lots of rest and eat a well balanced diet. Let your appetite be your guide as to how much. Although, if you get nauseated, try to eat something bland, like plain bread or crackers. Eat them slowly and in small, frequent portions until the nausea passes. Drink lots of fluids. You may continue to exercise as you have been, as tolerated.

Two nutrients that are very important in pregnancy are folic acid and iron. Folic acid has shown to be important in preventing birth defects. It does this in early pregnancy. It is commonly found in leafy green vegetables, peanuts, dried beans, liver, and some citrus fruits. Pregnancy also increases the body's need for iron and young women often have low levels of iron due to menstruation from before the start of their pregnancy. The iron in animal products is most easily absorbed--all types of beef, poultry and fish. It is also found in potatoes, beans, and raisins. Vegetable iron is harder to absorb. Eating these foods in combination with others that contain vitamin C helps increase absorption. Vitamin C is in things like tomatoes, oranges and orange juice, strawberries, green pepper, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts. Caffeine decreases the absorption of iron, so try to avoid this, around meals.

Also a standard multivitamin never hurts, as a back up. Look for one that has at least 400 micrograms (mcg) of the Folic acid. Sometimes this is listed as 0.4 mg. Be careful with iron supplements or vitamins with extra iron. They can cause stomach upset, and constipation. Both of these are unpleasant and might decrease your calorie intake. Once the pregnancy is confirmed, doctors often put pregnant women on special formulation, pre-natal vitamins.

Getting coverage for Pre-natal care
Check your insurance coverage. Unfortunately, some plans will not cover any pregnancy that has started before you have been on the plan for six months or so.

But don't worry. If that is the case, call your local health or welfare departments for information on what programs or clinics are available for low or no cost. One program is called WIC (women, infants, and children). You are likely eligible for Medicaid or other government programs, if you are pregnant, and can't afford medical care. The laws, at least for right now, are very good about covering medical care for pregnant women, no matter what. This is true even if you work, are married to someone who works, or if you have health insurance that covers other things but not pregnancy. Planned Parenthood is also a good starting place for initial confirmation of pregnancy and medical care.

Avoid places that advertise themselves as "crisis pregnancy centers" or the like. Check out any potential private sources of information or assistance. Call and ask specifically, if they have licensed doctors and nurses working on the premises. If the person on the other end of the phone is the least bit evasive, don't go there. These places are run by organizations that oppose abortion. Many try to keep women out of the medical system in the first three months because that is the time when they would get an abortion, if they were to do so. These groups substitute their own naive, misguided advice on medicine for that of a physician's. Some women have had very serious medical complications by taking these groups' advice. Later, you might take maternity clothes and baby items from them. But see a doctor or mid-wife, now, and for everything medical.

You want to be seen by someone as soon as possible, but at least starting in the first three months.

Some closing thoughts/Words of encouragement.
Recently, I was at a meeting with other women doctors. We were asked to name the most empowering moment of our lives. Guess what the most common answer was? Giving birth.
Source: http://www.womenshealth.org/a/pregnancy_symptoms_issues.htm

Do's and Don'ts of Pregnancy

DO'S

1. Everything you eat and drink while you are pregnant affects your baby. If you drink alcohol, it can hurt your baby's growth. Your baby may have physical and behavioral problems that can last for the rest of his or her life. Children born with the most serious problems caused by alcohol have fetal alcohol syndrome.

Source: http://www.aolhealth.com/pregnancy-guide/drinking-and-your-pregnancy

Children with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome may:

Be born small.
Have problems eating and sleeping.
Have problems seeing and hearing.
Have trouble following directions and learning how to do simple things.
Have trouble paying attention and learning in school.
Have trouble getting along with others and controlling their behavior.
Need medical care all their lives.
Need special teachers and schools.

Here Are Some Questions You May Have About Alcohol and Drinking While You Are Pregnant

1.

Can I drink alcohol if I am pregnant?

No. Do not drink alcohol when you are pregnant. Why? Because when you drink alcohol, so does your baby. Think about it. Everything you drink, your baby also drinks.

2.

Is any kind of alcohol safe to drink during pregnancy?

No. Drinking any kind of alcohol when you are pregnant can hurt your baby. Alcoholic drinks are beer, wine, wine coolers, liquor, or mixed drinks. A glass of wine, a can of beer, and a mixed drink all have about the same amount of alcohol.

3.

What if I drank during my last pregnancy and my baby was fine?

Every pregnancy is different. Drinking alcohol may hurt one baby more than another. You could have one child that is born healthy, and another child that is born with problems.

4.

Will these problems go away?

No. These problems will last for a child's whole life. People with severe problems may not be able to take care of themselves as adults. They may never be able to work.

5.

What if I am pregnant and have been drinking?

If you drank alcohol before you knew you were pregnant, stop drinking now. You will feel better and your baby will have a good chance to be born healthy. If you want to get pregnant, do not drink alcohol. You may not know you are pregnant right away. Alcohol can hurt a baby even when you are only 1 or 2 months pregnant.

6.

How can I stop drinking?

There are many ways to help yourself stop drinking. You do not have to drink when other people drink. If someone gives you a drink, it is OK to say no. Stay away from people or places that make you drink. Do not keep alcohol at home.

If you cannot stop drinking, GET HELP. You may have a disease called alcoholism. There are programs that can help you stop drinking. They are called alcohol treatment programs. Your doctor or nurse can find a program to help you. Even if you have been through a treatment program before, try it again. There are programs just for women.
For Help and Information

You can get help from a doctor, nurse, social worker, pastor, or clinics and programs near you.

Misconceptions about unnatural family planning

1. It is a form of abortion or it is against the law of God.

Answer. No. It is not a form of abortion neither against the law of God. Some leaders of the Churches like Catholic and some pro life advocates said that a life is killed or some said that it's not for life. If this is true which I'm sure it's not, I have a very big QUESTION to them.."What is the intention of the two types of family planning?..the natural and the unnatural family planning?" The ANSWER is

"They have the same intention" and that is "for the wife or the woman not to get pregnant". Different ways and types but bear in mind "same intention", what matters is the INTENTION. So, churches officials and pro life advocates...where are ur CS? I'm fighting for the truth, the way and the life not for the false beliefs, invalid opinions and unrealistic situations. I respect everyone's opinions but not the invalid ones, ok? When does an opinion becomes invalid? Answer..It becomes invalid when it's obviously wrong and nonsense but still the one who gives it believe and let others force to believe that it's right..

2. It has a very bad side effects.

Yes, it has some side effects especially if the Doctor is not consulted because the best way to use unnatural family planning is to see and ask him about it. He then can give his patients the right means which fits their needs and their bodies.
to be continued....

Travelling Angels

Written by edmar capuyan pasigay
source: http://sms-cebu.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=328&Itemid=1

Keep reading to the bottom of the page -- don't
stop at the feet (You'll see).

Two travelling angels stopped to spend the night
in the home of a wealthy family.

The family was rude and refused to let the angels
stay in the mansion's guest room.

Instead the angels were given a small space in

the cold basement.

As they made their bed on the hard floor, the

older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it.

When the younger angel asked why, the older angel

replied,

"Things aren't always what they seem."

The next night the pair came to rest at the house

of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his

wife.

After sharing what little food they had the couple

let the angels sleep in their bed where they could

have a good night's rest.

When the sun came up the next morning the angels

found the farmer and his wife in tears.

Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole

income, lay dead in the field.

The younger angel was infuriated and asked the

older angel how could you have let this happen?

The first man had everything, yet you helped him,

she accused.

The second family had little but was willing to

share everything, and you let the cow die.

"Things aren't always what they seem," the older

angel replied.

"When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I

noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the

wall.

Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and

unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the

wall so he wouldn't find it."

"Then last night as we slept in the farmer’s bed,

the angel of death came for his wife. It is also the smoke exhaled by a smoker.man and woman at risk

When a person smokes near you, you breathe in second-hand smoke. Many of us breathe it in whether we know it or not, in public places, around doorways of buildings and at work. When someone smokes inside a home or car, everyone inside breathes second-hand smoke.
Souce: http://www.cancer.ca/Canada-wide/Prevention/Quit%20smoking/Second-hand%20smoke.aspx?sc_lang=en

Cigarettes produce about 12 minutes of smoke, yet the smoker may inhale only 30 seconds of smoke from their cigarette. The rest of the smoke lingers in the air for non-smokers and smokers to breathe. Second-hand smoke contains more than 4000 chemicals. Many of these chemicals are known to cause cancer.

Chemicals found in second-hand smoke include:

* carbon monoxide (found in your car’s exhaust)
* ammonia (found in window cleaners)
* cadmium (found in batteries)
* arsenic (found in rat poison)

Each year, more than 1000 non-smoking Canadians die from second-hand smoke.

Children, pregnant women, older people and people with heart or breathing problems should be especially careful to avoid second-hand smoke.
Second-hand smoke makes you sick

No amount of second-hand smoke is safe.

Second-hand smoke causes sore eyes and throat, nasal irritation, headaches, coughing and wheezing, nausea and dizziness. You are also more likely to get colds and the flu. Breathing in second-hand smoke can also trigger asthma attacks and increase your chances of getting bronchitis and pneumonia.

If you have been exposed to second-hand smoke for a long time, you are more likely to develop and die from heart problems, breathing problems and lung cancer.

In addition, I read Readers Digest and an Article said based on research that people who take Alcohol + Cigarrettes + Right Eating + Exercise + Right Sleep leaves longer than those who don't. hehehe

I've been experiencing heartbreaking news

I want to post this to let you know that I'm still alright even if there are so many bad news in my life this year. Last April, my Aunt died because of High Blood, this month, two of my Aunts just gave back their lives to God, this happen last October 7, 2008 and it's followed just very recently October 21, 2008, they both left becuase of high blood.

My mother have high blood also, but she has been maintaining drugs and avoiding unright foods, unlike my Aunts who insisted that they could eat anything especially pork. Pork is the favorite meat for people with hypertension hehehe, good luck to them. Honestly, I want to inform everybody especially those who are above 40 years old or those who are obese or have hypertension... Please avoid eating foods with high cholesterol. Vegetables and fruits will do guys. These are just some of the news.
In addition, usually most people I know don't believe in this and some said that they are taking maintainance anyway and all that stuff. Most use all the reasons and all alibis in the world to justify what they want and believe.hehehe
To be continued.

Intellegent Thinking

A jobless man applied for the position of "office boy" at Microsoft.

The HR manager interviewed him then watched him cleaning the floor as a test.

"You are employed." Shortly, he bought a cart, then a truck, then he had his own fleet of delivery vehicles.

5 years later , the man is one of the biggest food retailers in the US .

He started to plan his family's future, and decided to have a life insurance.

He called an insurance broker, and chose a protection plan. When the conversation was concluded, the broker asked him his email. The man replied, "I don't have an email". The broker answered curiously, "You don't have an email, and yet have succeeded to build an empire. Can you imagine what you could have been if you had an email?!!"

The man thought for a while and replied, "Yes, I'd be an office boy at Microsoft!"

Moral of the story:

1 - Internet is not the solution to your life.

2 - If you don't have internet, and work hard, you can be a millionaire.

3 - If you received this message by email, you are closer to being an office boy, than a millionaire. .........

I read it and i posted it......

references: http://sms-cebu.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=299&Itemid=1

MY OWN Free and Open Source Perspective(FOSS) PERSPECTIVE

We are living in a world where almost everything we use is not free. It is a custom ever since which we inherit that money is the main thing for business and leisure. To believe that there is still something free available is hard to imagine, particularly if we talk about the world of technology. Here some questions arise. Is there still a free technology for everybody? If there is, what is this technology? Will this technology last? These are just some of the questions that need to be addressed instantly.

The vivid answer for the first question above is a big yes. There is still a free technology available. This is what Free and Open Source Software is all about. It is not just free but also an open source. An obvious and a huge proof for this are its two philosophies. The philosophies are the Cathedral Model and the Bazaar Model. These models are diverse and different. They have their own advantages and disadvantages. In order to know more about these things, a show off of their definitions is important and is as follows. The Cathedral Model means that there are selected individuals chosen to develop a certain FOSS, unlike the Bazaar Model where the people all over the world are tasked to develop the software. The software is available in the World Wide Web for the public to view and add some features, applications and even innovate or change the source code for the better development. Some say that the first Model has more prejudices since only few programmers and developers share ideas and abilities. Others say that the other Model has more drawbacks because of some unknown perpetrators might add security features that only them could handle. The things mentioned above are just few of the worries about FOSS. But as a whole, these Models are the foundations of FOSS.

One of the best things that happen to FOSS is its approval in the International Standard Organization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) approved the OpenDocument Format (ODF) for release as ISO/IEC 26300. ODF, an XML-defined specification created by OpenOffice.org and developed by the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS), aims to enable different applications to exchange documents. The Standard-Setting Organization’s recognition mark its way to be the basis of software development. This reduces the burden of its supporters and advocates in inviting more people to migrate from proprietary systems. Although some known countries have already migrated to FOSS, they are not yet enough for its advocates to conclude that they are successful. These countries are members of Europian Union, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Denmark, India and others who have realized the more benefits and importance of using it compare to closed proprietary systems. Occasionally, these clear events are enough for the Philippine Government to directly make a stand and immediately support its implementation. It’s undeniable that the Government has not yet moved despite the fact that low cost suits its basic needs. Inspite of this, there are some who eagerly devote themselves on urging the government to do their part.
In this part, I would like to focus more on my ultimate views about it. I want to list the objectives about it. I want to list them of what I want to happen and of what I really feel. They are the following:

1. to really urge myself to be a full pledge user of FOSS
2. to encourage others to migrate to FOSS by my own deeds
3. to get involved in any events regarding it as much as possible
4. and to suggest and maybe be one of the individuals to give what I have and what I know to make it better for future success

In the first objectives, I know myself that I am not still on of the active users. Yes, I do support it but I still need to explore, to study and to put in my heart its great benefits and importance. I believe that I must be comfortable with it in order for me to be a full pledge user. I know it is quite a struggle but it would be very ironic to encourage others if I myself have not done it yet.

In the second objective while encouraging myself, it is best to invite others with my little deeds. It is still given the majority of the Filipino people and even the world has not yet used FOSS. I want to share my few stories about it. I would start by telling them this way. I am a CS student but I do not have internet connection at home, so I go to internet cafes to fulfill my assignments and projects. Most of the internet cafes as I observe are still using proprietary systems, some have license and some have none. The ones who shifted to FOSS, most of their customers are not familiar with non-proprietary software, so this results to a constant call to the café attendants about what to use and how to use their software by their customers. This is messy, this proves that absolutely so many people are ignorant about it. This makes me more determine to encourage these users to learn and to use FOSS. I want to help them choose or even find the best for their needs.352

The third is to be involved in any seminars, organizations maybe or any events for that matter which stretch its use. This will really help me in improve my knowledge about it for me to use in the community in the near future. It is also a big help for advocates seeing many people being one with them. In addition to, these are opportunities which very few can have. I must not let it slept away. 428

The fourth is to unsure the future of FOSS, its philosophies must not be forgotten, instead they must be diffuse all over the world. I will answer the question here which I asked above which is “Will this technology last?” My answer is “I am sure it will last.“ The growing support all over the world is more than enough to prove it will last. Its intention is for the better of everybody and most are for the better specially in this world where technology is the basic.

Now, as I end this note, we must all stand and go out from our shell and start spreading FOSS. I want to thank my teacher for leading us in this subject. I also want to thank my classmates and my family who have given a nice fight. Last of all, to God, who keeps me going through all these struggles and trials. To Him be the glory.

My learnings and reflections in making my research.

The title of my approved research topic is:
"Analyze the factors which affect the power consumption of servers and data centers; design distributed applications and architectures to minimize usage."

Before, I had already a research topic in my mind, I was then more than ready to take the subject called Methods of Research. But when times went by, the case was not the same anymore. I did not not meet my expectation to myself. This started my "should we say agony" in finding a research topic which suits my capability and ability. I honestly found it hard to find one, there were uneasy moments, undesirable confusions and sleepless nights.

Now, I don't want to do a research study that takes more than a year and that is quite expensive and very difficult. Actually, considering these things add burden in finding my research topic. Nevertheless, He answered my prayer. Although, the topic I have now is not really what I want but not all the time I stick to what I want and need. I must make my own stand and be very dynamic to overcome the hindrances. These are just some of the things I go through which I hope I could handle. I ask and pray to Him honestly that these event would make make me more knowledgeable and mature. I know that I can't do this on my own. I need the help and support of my lovable friends, my great family, my honorable teacher, my excellent mentors and specially my only God.

to be continued

10+ tips for combating Computer Vision Syndrome

Date: September 18th, 2008

Author: Susan Harkins

Recent studies indicate that those who spend even a few hours a day working on a computer could suffer significant vision problems. Symptoms include headache, inability to focus, burning or tired eyes, double or blurred vision, and neck and shoulder pain.

If you’re suffering, you’re not alone. A 2003 study by Delia E. Treaster, of Ohio State University, found that more than 90 percent of computer users experience eyestrain. Furthermore, the more time you spend at your computer, the worse it gets. In her 2003 study, Dr. Treaster cited a 2002 report by T. Nakazawa, which followed 25,000 computer workers for three years. This study found that workers who spent more than five hours a day in front of a computer suffered significant and severe eyestrain. read more

Computer screens are the culprit. Our eyes don’t process screen characters as well as they do traditional print. Printed materials have well-defined edges and screen characters don’t. Our eyes work hard to remain focused on screen characters and to temporarily relieve stress, our eyes drift and then strain to refocus. The constant muscle flexing causes fatigue. Keep in mind that computer screens aren’t the only screens that matter — most of your electronic toys, such as cell phones and PDAs, also cause eyestrain. Fortunately, there are a number of simple (and mostly free) things you can do to alleviate CVS. Don’t wait until you’re suffering. Make these adjustments now.

#1: Use proper lighting

Most office settings use bright, often harsh lighting. The more light the better, right? Unfortunately, that’s not true, but the solution to harsh bright lights is simple. Knowing that the bright lights are hurting you is often the bigger problem. If you have a window, use blinds or curtains to limit the amount of sunlight beaming in. Use lower intensity bulbs and tubes inside. If you have both, turn off the indoor lights and open your blinds or curtains until you’re comfortable. If you’re used to working in bright light, you might feel a bit out of sorts at first. Give yourself some time to adjust to the softer lighting. If you can’t control the lighting, consider wearing tinted glasses.

#2: Reduce environmental glare

Glare is reflected light that bounces off surfaces such as walls and computer screens. Often, you don’t even realize you’re compensating for it, so finding glare might take a bit of effort. There are a few things that you can do to reduce the glare: Paint bright walls a darker color and use paint with a matte finish.Install an anti-glare screen and/or a glare hood on your monitor. If you wear glasses, consider applying an anti-reflective coating to the lenses. Glare screens help only part of the problem. They cut down on glare from the computer screen. Unfortunately, they won’t help your eyes focus better.

#3: Use proper computer settings

One of the simplest ways to reduce eyestrain is to adjust your monitor’s brightness and contrast settings. There’s no right or wrong setting. Just experiment until you’re comfortable. If the background gives off a lot of light, reduce the brightness. In addition, keep the contrast between the background and characters high. Generally speaking, your settings are probably too bright, but a setting that’s too dark is just as tiring.

#4: Maximize comfort by adjusting text size and color

Adjusting the on-screen text’s size and color can provide relief. First, try enlarging the text. You’re probably using the smallest size you can to view more text on the screen, but that compounds the problem. Instead, enlarge the text to two to three times the smallest size you can read. Almost all software and most browsers will let you adjust text size. When possible, use black text on a white background. And avoid busy backgrounds. Sometimes, you have no control, but do so when you can.

#5: Take a break!

If you work at a computer most of the day, work in a few breaks. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) recommends that computer workers take, at a minimum, four 5-minute breaks in addition to the customary two 15-minute breaks during the day. If you don’t take those two 15-minute breaks, take a five-minute break for every hour you sit at the computer. The American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends a 15-minute break for every two hours of computer use. The AOA also suggests you follow their 20/20 rule when regular breaks just aren’t possible. Every 20 minutes or so, look away from the screen and focus on something in the distance for about 20 seconds. (Breaks can be a touchy subject in the workplace, so discuss your needs with a supervisor. Don’t get yourself into trouble.)

#6: Clean your screen

The easiest tip of all is to clean your screen frequently. Dust, fingerprints, and other smears are distracting and make reading more difficult. Often, you don’t even see the dust; you just look right past it. Make it a habit to wipe off your screen frequently. Every morning isn’t too often and is easy to work into your routine.

#7: Position copy correctly

Glancing back and forth between a printed copy and your computer screen causes eyestrain. To ease discomfort, place the printed copy as close to your monitor as possible. In addition, use a copy stand if possible to keep the copy upright. This is the one time you might want more light. A small desk lamp will suit your needs, but position it carefully so that it sheds light on the printed page but doesn’t shine into your face or reflect off your monitor. Remember to use soft light.

#8: Position yourself correctly

Keep your distance from the monitor; most people sit too close. Position your computer monitor about 20 to 24 inches from your eyes. Your screen’s center should be about 10 to 15 degrees below your eyes. This arrangement provides the best support. If you can’t change the distance between you and the monitor, adjust the text accordingly. For instance, if you’re sitting farther away than you should, increase the text size. It’s not the best solution, but it’s better than straining to see something that’s too far away.

#9: Get computer glasses

If you just can’t get relief, you might need special glasses you can wear just for working at the computer. You can’t pick these at your favorite discount store. You’ll need a prescription from an eye doctor. Don’t depend on prescription reading glasses to negate CVS either. Reading glasses help with distances of 16 to 21 inches. In contrast, computer glasses work for distances of 18 to 28 inches. It’s unlikely that the same pair of glasses will accommodate reading printed material and working at your computer.

#10: Seek alternative help

If all else fails, try something a little different, like yoga. In an Indian study of 291 people, half practiced yoga daily for an hour, five days a week, and noticed an improvement after 60 days. The other half, those not practicing yoga, saw no improvement. If your eyestrain doesn’t disappear, at least you’ll have fun and feel better in general.

#11: Be an advocate

Many companies provide vision care insurance. If yours doesn’t and you spend most of your day in front of a computer, talk to your human resources department. Some companies pay for special glasses for those employees who spend most of their day in front of a computer. It can’t hurt to check. If they don’t, you might champion the cause and initiate a change in policy. To that end, I’ve included a number of online resources you can use to back up your request:

<itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit><itunes:subtitle>Date: September 18th, 2008Author: Susan Harkins Recent studies indicate that those who spend even a few hours a day working on a computer could suffer significant vision problems. Simply read what really love is in... 1 Corinthians
Chapter 13 Verses 1-13
1 If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.
2 And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.
3 If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated,
5 it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury,
6 it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth.

7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing.
9 For we know partially and we prophesy partially,
10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
11 When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things.
12 At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known.
13 So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love. There's something wrong with the use of the word love in Timothy. In my opinion, the scholars translated this verse incorrectly. God is love and love is charity. Love is perfect and can never be wrong or any negative, it's always right and positive and so on...it's common sense.
But they say that "love has different meanings?", still the sentence' meaning would be very confusing if that's the case.

<media:rating>nonadult</media:rating>
