Reality - Is It Optimistic? Or Is It Pessimistic?

There are more slaves alive today than at any previous time in history.

Yet, at the same time, there are more people living above extreme poverty today than at any point in history.

Which point of view is true?

They both are. Reality is simultaneously optimistic and pessimistic. People who call themselves realists are really post-rationalising their worldview belief.

Don't Forget Intellectual Leg Day

Don't be the intellectual version of that guy who neglects leg day.

You know the type. They spend hours at the gym working their upper body because someone told them girls go gaga over guns. But they never work their legs. Maybe because they think they're going to wear pants all the time. I don't know.

Whatever the case, they're the gym monsters who look like giant crabs stuck onto tent poles.

You don't want to be like that intellectually.

The upper body, I use as an analogue of the rational mind, the intellect. Everyone sees your rational mind, because that's how we interact with each other; through cognisance.

The legs, I use to represent the non-rational mind, the subconscious; heart matters. These are not so obvious, but it is these, the non-rational mind, that provide the motivations of the rational mind. Just as it is your legs that carry your face and hands around, it is your unconscious mind that directs your conscious life.

I don't advocate that you work your upper body less. Not at all. But what I do advocate is that you work your lower body equally. Don't forget leg day.

I am not anti-intellectual at all. But I strongly advocate that you put as much energy into developing your non-rational, subconscious, spiritual mind as you do your rational, intellectual, conscious mind.

Actually, I recommend putting nine times the energy into nurturing your non-rational mind as you do your rational mind. Nine tenths of the iceberg are underwater. That is, 90% of the iceberg is in its actual, natural element - water. 90% of your mind is in its actual, natural element - the unconscious. We just tend to notice only the 10% that sticks out.

Don't be like the guy who forgets leg day. Nurture your true nature.

People are so hung up about God's name that they have a name for his name so that they don't have to say his name while talking about his name: the tetragrammaton. (Not a Transformer.)

The Hebrews even traditionally call him The Name. I mean, literally, "The Name": HaShem.

Such hangups about the divine.

The Spirit of Christ pervades your being. Don't be so skittish. If he wanted you doomed, you'd already be. See John 3:17, the lesser known younger brother of John 3:16.

Knee-jerk reactions bypass the higher mental processes, whether we're talking about swallowing everything indiscriminately or rejecting everything outright.

Maturity takes wisdom, and that's harder work than blind faith or blind cynicism.

The need for assurance of absolute truth is a spiritually hazardous thing.

For the record, my friend, between the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and Islam, I would choose Islam as more true, too.

But the difference, my friend, is that I would consider it more true, not The Truth.

I do believe in absolute truth. I do not believe we have found it. Parts of it, yes. Not all of it.

When you have found something, or think you have found it, you stop looking for it.

I will not stop my quest 5,000, 2,000 or 1,500 years ago. It goes on.
