Well yeah thats kinda right its been a long time since I posted to this tiny little blog of mine and the reason is quite simple I WAS LAZY. 3. The MathPhysics applet site is the creation of Paul Falstad. The site offers more than 40 applets related to Physics and Mathematics. The topics covered include oscillations and waves, acoustics, signal processing, Electricity and magnetism (Both static and dynamic), Quantum Mechanics, Linear Algebra, Vector Calculus, Thermodynamics etc. More over there are links to similar content. The applets given in the site offer changeable parameters and are well crafted. Each applet is accompanied by brief instructions and if required detailed instructions can be accessed. These applets can be downloaded and there are source codes for some of the applets.

2. M Casco Associates Physics 1
M. Casco Associates publishes run-time books for physics or math students in high school or college. Subjects are mechanics, dynamical systems and chaos. They offer these books at no cost to anyone interested. Run-time books use mathematical simulations of the subject system instead of static illustrations, allowing experimentation with the concepts covered in the text. For folks who don't want to download and install the run-time books, they offer online versions of two of their titles, "Order" and "Physics 1". These are powered by Java rather than the C++ programs that power the run-time books.
The physics course covers Mechanics, Vector arithmetic, Newton's Laws of Motion, Circular Motion, Work and Energy, Collisions, Elasticity, Fluid Mechanics and Waves (Mechanical). The course has an exhaustive list of charts, images and graphs. Concepts which are difficult to grasp are prominently marked. The interactivity of the applets provided enhances the teaching capability of the site. Registered students (the registration is free) can directly contact the authors to clarify doubts.

1. Glenbrook South Physics Homepage gives set of instructional pages written in an easy-to-understand language and complemented by graphics and Check Your Understanding sections. An ideal starting location for those grasping for understanding or searching for answers. The "Physics classroom" link takes you to the actual courseware. The topics covered include Newton's Laws, Kinematics, Vectors-Motion and Forces in Two Dimensions, Momentum and its conservation, Work energy and power, Circular motion, satellite motion, Waves (Sound and Light), Optic studies (reflection, refraction), Electricity etc. Though the coverage is limited, the dearth is more than made up by depth. The chapters are further divided into sections which are spread across many lessons and pages, thus contributing to the lucidity and ease of learning. There are plenty of images, animations and examples to make the explanation more vivid. The concepts are followed by a quick review and also a case study applying the concept to situations in real life. The " Projects corner" is another link that contains project ideas. Students and learners can use the procedure on executing an experiment described here. The absence of ads makes browsing throgh the site a pleasent experience The site can be downloaded en masse with a web site extractor for convenient browsing offline.

Online graphical dictionary

Visuwords™ is an online graphical dictionary where you can look up words to find their meanings and associations with other words and concepts. This site is especially useful for those who get easily confused between words and their associations. The technique used to represent the words and their associations is similar to mind mapping, hence a lasting impression of the word remains in your mind. You can produce diagrams reminiscent of a neural net and learn easily how words associate.

You can enter words into the search box to look them up or double-click a node to expand the tree. Click and drag the background to pan around and use the mouse wheel to zoom. Hover over nodes to see the definition and click and drag individual nodes to move them around to help clarify connections.

This site will be particularly useful for those who are planning to take English language tests such as TOEFL^® or the GRE^® (useful for verbal section) or IELTS™, and as the people at Visuwords put it:

Its very easy to use. For example I did not want to repeat the word 'especially' so checked it up on visuwords to get a similar word 'particularly'. Its as simple as that. Recommended for all.

In the globalized world Perhaps the most useful skill you can carry is knowledge of the local language, especially while traveling. Further, knowledge of international languages help you get the edge in your work place. For example you can work at international locations, get promotions and work with global client's. The NASA technical reports server provides an exhaustive database of technical and research papers published by NASA.

NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS)

The NTRS is a valuable resource for students, educators, researchers, and the public for access to NASA's current and historical technical literature since it was first released in 1994. NTRS provides access to approximately 500K aerospace related citations, 90K full-text online documents, and 111K images and videos. NTRS numbers continues to grow over time as new scientific and technical information (STI) is created or funded by NASA. The type of information found in NTRS include: conference papers, images, journal articles, photos, meeting papers, movies, patents, research reports, and technical videos.

The NTRS provides access to NASA's current and historical aerospace research and engineering results. NTRS integrates three separate information collections and enables search and retrieval of information through a common interface:

NACA Collection: Citations and reports from the NACA Technical Report Server (TRS), http://naca.larc.nasa.gov, are now in NTRS. The NACA TRS site is retired and no longer in service following the consolidation of citations and reports into NTRS. The NACA collection is historical information from the NACA period lasting from 1915 to 1958.
NASA Collection: Citations and documents created or sponsored by NASA. The NASA collection time period starts in 1958 and continues to the present.
NIX Collection: Citations and images, photos, movies and videos downloaded from the NASA Image eXchange and served out through NTRS. NIX is a separate system and users can go directly to the NIX to search imagery as well as through NTRS.

NTRS provides access to many citations and an increasing number of electronic documents and images. Citations indicate if an item is available online or if it should be ordered. If the item is available from NASA, the citation will provide guidance on ordering items from the NASA Center for AeroSpace Information. If the item is not available from NASA, the citation provides a link to a list of suggested sources to order the document.

The Information found in NTRS is government information and it is unlimited, unclassified, and publicly available.

How to downlaod video's from MIT

MIT OpenCourseWare (MIT OCW) is a large-scale, Web-based publishing initiative with the goal of providing free, searchable access to MIT course materials for educators, students, and individual learners around the world. These materials are offered in a single, searchable structure spanning all of MIT's academic disciplines, and include uniform metadata about the contents of the individual subject sites.

How to download MIT OCW streaming video lectures to my computer for viewing off-line?
Most of the video that MIT OCW provides is in a Real Video format delivered through streaming servers. MIT OCW goal in providing video in this format (in multiple bitrates) is to enable users with a variety of Internet connections to sample MIT OCW video offerings with a common browser plug-in without having to download large media files.

MIT OCW video streams can be recorded by video stream recorders supporting Real Video streamed through RTSP protocol like RM recorders, but users are able to download MIT OCW non streaming video files if they prefer to play these files off-line. There are two typical URL structures for links to MIT OCW video lecture delivered in a streaming format:

OCW video files stored on the Akamai network will have URLs that look something like this
http://mfile.akamai.com/7870/rm/mitstorage.download.akamai.com/7870/18/18.06/videolectures/strang-1806-lec01-26aug1999-220k.rm
If you want to download this file and play it off-line, use the following URL -- the only difference is in the first part of the URL:

This same basic approach will work for all of the MIT OCW streaming videos stored on the Akamai network. Simply find the URL to the streaming media, and replace the first part of the URL

with
http://ocw.mit.edu/ans7870
OCW video files stored on the Internet Archive (such as those for "Course 18.03 -- Differential Equations, Spring 2004") will have URLs that look something like this:

To download this file and play it off-line, use the following URL -- the only difference is that you replace "stream" with "download":

This same basic approach will work for all the MIT OCW streaming videos stored on the Internet Archive network. Simply find the URL to the streaming media file and replace the word "stream" with the word "download."

MIT Open Courseware

The most well known among open course providers is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), whose open course ware can be said to have brought about a revolution in this field. The content provided by MIT can be expected to be of the highest merit considering the reputation to uphold. OCW shares free lecture notes, exams, and other resources from more than 1800 courses spanning MIT's entire curriculum. Courses targeted at undergraduates and postgraduates are available here, and of late they have started courses even for High school students. The nature of the information provided includes assignment and exams with solutions, lecture notes (PDF format), presentation slides etc. Further you can download the entire course in the ZIP format. Apart from this there are classroom lecture videos available for viewing online. These recordings are available in Real Media format for both slow (56Kbps) and fast (220Kbps) connections. Further these files are also available for download from iTunes®. They can also be downloaded in the audio format if needed, a boon for students living in countries with slow internet speeds . A word of caution, the above text doesn’t mean that all types of contents are available for download. The amount of information available depends on the comfort levels of individual faculty members at MIT. The availability of information on the MIT open courseware or for that matter on any courseware doesn’t mean that you can dump your books. These open courseware’s are only for supplementing the educational needs of the learner, for example discovering a new technique to solve a given problem. Students and learners will still need a comprehensive source of information.
To summarize, MIT's open courseware initiative was a revolutionary way of disseminating information to learners and educators worlwide. The students can gain much from the expertise of the worlds best teachers.
