One of my all-time favorite songs. It’s been described as an elixir by some. A song to sit back and think, or not think, to. A reminder of who you were, who you are and who you’re meant to be. It’s about renewing hope and getting past the challenges by remembering the simplicity of life. The Native American chant grounds the song but sends you on a journey.

A very simple video too, but still one of the most memorable ever made. Enjoy!

For any of you who are still reading this blog: a big thanks! There is certainly a lack of posting in the last few months, but lots of new opportunities have been presented to me so I’m pursuing them with an outstanding level of support from my amazing family, friends and associates.

I’m now in Vancouver, British Columbia and working with some pretty cool people on some pretty awesome projects. Hopefully, I’ll get back to blogging but you’ll have to excuse the lack of posts in the meantime while I settle in to my new home.

A Perfect Double Feature: October Sky and The Iron Giant

You could also also pair up October Sky with Apollo 13 or even Field of Dreams, both very inspiring films, but somehow The Iron Giant, with it’s space-related themes (including homage to Sputnik 1), small-town stories, and hope for something bigger and better seems to make it the perfect compliment to October Sky.

Another reason these two films fit so well together is their incredible musical scores. Mark Isham’s score for October Sky is heartfelt and inspiring, while Michael Kamen’s soundtrack for The Iron Giant echoes the fears and hopes of the U.S./Soviet Space Race and the imagination and simplicity of being a kid in much simpler times.

I went indoor climbing here at The Banff Centre on Tuesday. Something I haven’t done for many years. Had a great instructor and a great time overall. So, to keep with the climbing theme, here’s a video game widget featuring a plumber trying to rescue a woman from some big ape:

NOTE: Just removed the game so that the sound wasn’t annoying anybody while they surfed the rest of the blog.

G.I. Joe Feature Film Snake-Eyes Revealed

Here’s a photo of one of my favorite fictional comic book/toy characters, Snake-Eyes, the ninja commando for the G.I. Joe team as he will appear in the 2009 movie by Stephen Sommers (The Mummy/The Mummy Returns, Deep Rising):

Looks like his costume design was inspired by the 1985 version of the character and David Michael Beck’s 2001 painting:

Can’t wait to see Storm Shadow and the rest of film’s G.I. Joe characters!

Here’s one of the earliest color icons for the graphics application Photoshop:

This image was pulled from The Abyss: Special Edition, which was one of the first major uses of the application developed by Thomas Knoll, and his brother John Knoll, a visual wizard at George Lucas’s Industrial Light and Magic. Photoshop 1.0 was released for the Apple Macintosh exclusively.
