“Tilt-shift photography” refers to the use of camera movements on small- and medium-format cameras, and sometimes specifically refers to the use of tilt for selective focus, often for simulating a miniature scene. Sometimes the term is used when the shallow depth of field is simulated with digital postprocessing; the name may derive from the tilt-shift lens normally required when the effect is produced optically.

“Tilt-shift” actually encompasses two different types of movements: rotation of the lens plane relative to the image plane, called tilt, and movement of the lens parallel to the image plane, called shift. Tilt is used to control the orientation of the plane of focus (PoF), and hence the part of an image that appears sharp; it makes use of the Scheimpflug principle. Shift is used to adjust the position of the subject in the image area without moving the camera back; this is often helpful in avoiding the convergence of parallel lines, as when photographing tall buildings.

I thought this was a cool performance, and like kaki king an interesting way to play an acoustic guitar. Check out those fret markers, in all my years of playing guitar, I’ve never seen markers that were slanted as the they go down the neck, definitely an added skill to play that guitar. FYI they are Greenfield Guitars

About Andy McKee

Hailing from Topeka Kansas, the self-taught McKee, first garnered international attention as one of the top finalists at the prestigious National Finger Style Guitar Championships in Winfield, Kansas. Since 2001, McKee has released five albums independently selling upwards of 50,000. Andy also had the honor of playing guitar on Josh Groban’s Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum Christmas album, NOEL.

McKee’s live shows are a true testament to his art of stringsmanship and engaging repartee. He manages to capture both the every day music fan and guitar aficionados with his expertise and down to earth wit and humor. Whether it be explaining how his harp guitar tunes or why his frets are backward, Andy maintains his love for both fan and guitar player.

His highly-developed two handed technique is reminiscent of some of Andy’s cherished guitar mentors and heroes: Preston Reed, Don Ross, Billy McLaughlin, and Michael Hedges. He honors the path blazed by these pioneers with his unique multi-layering approach as he alone plucks, strums, taps the strings and body to provide the illusion of a full band accompaniment.

Andy was awarded the Acoustic Guitar Magazine worldwide silver medal award for fingerstyle in December 2008.

About the Artist:
Throughout history, there have been only a select few artists who have changed the way we view art. In the beginning, early man described his world by painting rock walls, using crushed berries and blood. When the first artists discovered pigments and began painting on paper and canvas, they eventually created distinct styles such as Impressionism, Abstract, Pointillism, Fauvism, Expressionism, Cubism, Surrealism and any other “ism” they could come up with. Since then, most artists have copied or cloned these styles by simply adding their own spin. The resulting lack of innovation is the current “product” of many art schools.

Then along came Chris DeRubeis……. Born in 1978, it wasn’t long before De Rubeis showed a very early proclivity for drawing. He drew on any materials he could find at home to express his talents. This talent was nurtured to the fullest by his family, and at age 11 his Grandfather gave Chris his first Airbrush. After watching Chris use his airbrush for the very first time, his Grandfather proclaimed that Chris was to become the Artist his Grandfather always wanted to be and would inevitably share his talents on the world’s grand stage.

School was viewed as a chore for De Rubeis. He enjoyed drawing figures on math tests, not solving equations; He preferred doodling beautiful landscapes in the blank spaces most teachers expected to find an essay. Teachers scolded him for not concentrating on his studies and warned that he was on the wrong path. However, this criticism did not deter him from his ultimate destiny. Derubeis would continue to paint and take extra art classes on his lunch break. At age 20 Chris attended the Pasadena Art Center as well as the Associates in Art College in Sherman Oaks, CA. To pay for schooling he painted custom Harleys and started a successful Party T-Shirt business. His professors tried to convince him to choose a “more commercial style” of art but he was never satisfied painting ‘…like everyone else.’

As those who know De Rubeis would be quick to tell you, he has never been one to run with the herd. He found many of these styles to be outdated and uninteresting like his history lectures. Chris continued his quest, searching for something greater and undiscovered, and then one day it happened. While grinding the base paint off a Harley gas tank in his workshop, DeRubeis noticed something spectacularly unique. With each pass of the grinding pad a new piece of metal was exposed to the light unveiling fantastic patterns that seemingly danced off the tank, as if it had come to life….. History began!

Racing to the local metal shop and grabbing scraps of metal, DeRubeis began experimenting with different tools to manipulate the way light reacted with the surface. He introduced chemicals and paints to the surface creating unique reactions and bringing his art to life…….Abstract Sensualism was born!

“I favor metal because I can combine a form of sculpture as the foundation for my expression and have found a way to enhance my ability to communicate emotions more intently. All art should inspire and evoke emotion….Art should be something you can actually feel.”

The introduction of his unique style to the art world was met with uncertainty, as galleries had never seen or sold art like it before. It wasn’t long before his innovative style and technique were noticed and galleries across the country began inquiring about his work. Then in 2005 DeRubeis’ work was submitted and honored with two nominations by the First Annual Fine Art Awards televised live from the MGM Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Nominated in the “Mixed Media” and “New Movement” categories, he earned the “MUSE” Award in “New Movement” and is now known as “The Father of the Conceptual Movement.”

De Rubeis, then only 27, dedicated his award to his Grandfather who had passed away just months earlier.

In 2009 De Rubeis was signed by famed art publisher David Smith who immediately saw the future in Chris’s art. Now, DeRubeis is certainly one of the hottest selling artists in the world. His works are on permanent display in high end galleries throughout the United States and abroad. He continues to create new styles and designs for his work, forever changing the way we view art. Yet another unique twist to DeRubeis’ artwork, his pieces are rarely shown in frames. When asked why his work is always “floated,” Chris simply replied with a smile, “WHY NOT!”

As you would imagine, artists are attempting but failing to imitate his style. DeRubeis states,
“You won’t find what I create in any art school…yet.”

The auction company, RM Auctions, had estimated that the car would sell for about half that much. It represents the highest price ever paid for an early automobile at auction. The price includes a 10% “buyer’s premium” which goes to the auction company. The name of the buyer has not been made public.

Not normally a digital site subject but it would be a cool car to model in 3d. I found good enough refs, I thought it would help someone for a project.

The car was built in France in 1884, about a year before Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz of Germany, who went on to found the carmakers that would become Daimler (DDAIF), maker of Mercedes-Benz luxury cars, built their first experimental gasoline-powered cars. (The two were working independently of one another.) Henry Ford, who later founded the carmaker that would become General Motors’ (GM, Fortune 500) Cadillac division as well as the Ford Motor Co. (F, Fortune 500) finished his first garage-built car 12 years after this one.

The four-wheeled De Dion-Bouton et Trepardoux, nicknamed “La Marquise” was originally built for the French Count De Dion, one of the founders of the company that built it.

Fueled by coal, wood and bits of paper, the car takes about a half-hour to work up enough steam to drive. The car came close to that speed during what has been billed as the world’s first automobile race in 1887, according to RM Auctions. There are older cars in the world, but La Marquise — named after Count de Dion’s mother, actually works. Start the boilers, pop in some coal or coke, wait 45 minutes for the steam to build up pressure, and it could be driven around town.

The car had last been sold in 2007 for about $3.5 million at a Pebble Beach, Calif. auction in August, 2007.

Espionage, particularly the idea of living a double life, was the basis for Kaki King’s brand-new, stunning album Junior. And like a tantalizing spy novel that’s full of surprises, Junior delivers twists-and-turns: lyrically from exuberance and anger to heartbreaking melancholy; and sonically from experimental pieces to accessible pop. While there is some of the dazzling musicianship King has been renowned for, Junior showcases her further maturation as a well-rounded artist that defies categorization and expectations.

“I never made records for other people,” she says. “My evolution from record to record has been personal not commercial. For example there’s none of the “guitar tapping” that I’m known for. There not a single bit of it on the record except for a half a second on ‘The Hoopers of Hudspeth.’”

As with her previous album, 2008’s Dreaming of Revenge, Junior was produced by Malcolm Burn (Patti Smith, Emmylou Harris) and recorded at his studio in Kingston, New York. But in contrast to that record, which was marked by deep textures and layers as well as unusual instrumentation, Junior was specifically made with only three musicians in mind—in this case, King, multi-instrumentalist Dan Brantigan and drummer Jordan Perlson. The result was something more direct. “Prior to this I would have written a lot in the studio and played all the instruments myself,” King says. “This time, I really leaned on Dan and Jordan to help shape the songs and help me get the record written.”

The nearly-D.I.Y. aesthetic employed by King can be found on a couple of Junior’s tracks starting with the album’s punkish “Falling Day” and the noisy “Death Head.” “I was dragging this little ukelele around with me,” she says of the former song. “I tuned it weird and I came up with this one riff. The lyrics are basically nonsense. It’s a kind of rumination on a weird dream I had and imagery from that. It’s also got all these strange sounds that Dan came up with.”

Longtime fans may be surprised to hear a different side of King with the dance rock of “Spit It Back In My Mouth.” “I really wanted that to be my Cure song,” she says. “Like how the Cure would write these really happy, jangly songs and the lyrics would be utterly depressing. When I came up with that little groove, I thought this is way too happy, so I changed it to make people depressed.”

King’s mesmerizing guitar playing continues through Junior with a few instrumental pieces, including the electrifying number “My Nerves That Committed Suicide.” “I found a tuning on the guitar,” King says of that track, “and I was writing a little theme and a little melody. All of a sudden I thought, ‘Why don’t we do this?’ and it really took off. Part of it is ear candy and a part of it is emotive air candy. You just go with that anthemic feeling and it kind of wins every time.”

The rawest song on Junior in terms of King’s passionate singing and wrenching lyrics is the folkish ballad “Sunnyside,” which is about the end of a relationship. “It happened very close to the time I was making the record,” the artist recalls. “It’s a very personal story about something that I went through with another person. Every reference to every lyric is true to life. I’m hoping there’s something universal in that song that someone’s gonna listen and think ‘Wow, I can relate to that,’ because I don’t want it to by my pity party.”
