It’s a live stage production of the old Super Mario Brothers game. How true to form -- even with Mario going down the pipes to the underground world. There are a few other knock-offs around the web, but I think this group nailed it -- even has Mario growing with the magic mushroom… priceless.

So the video plays like something built for an Apple commercial. After hearing about the Flipboard tonight, I grabbed my iPad and downloaded Flipboard. Great. Neat. Pretty. FREE!

Now this is the part where I get FRUSTRATED.

The point of the app is that you input your social media logins -- it searches for content that is relevant to YOU from people in your inner circle. Then Flipboard displays all of this lovely content in a magazine type interface. Flipboard is coined as "your personal magazine. It always has content you care about because it knows who your friends are." Your flipboard connects to your social network and grabs content that is good for you. You can share and reply right in the app. Your Flipboard essentially becomes your homebase for all of your content. All stuff you care about in one place. It’s your social media magazine.

Again, SIGN ME UP.

Apparently when an iPad app (Flipboard, I’m talking to YOU!) goes viral -- it’s not anticipating the load. Over capacity. Not a good sign.

So after frustration of reading how darn cool this iPad app was, and NOW I can’t even play with it, I made a video. It’s a dumb little video of the Flipboard and it’s little issue. Well, then I ran into another issue. My dumb little video was made with a super cool Moldy Peaches song. After I uploaded (which its in HD and took 12 hours to upload, don’t ask) -- YouTube and the copyright police got all up in my business and fined me with using one of their pre-selected songs… So what does that mean? That means you can watch my dumb little video, which is now stupid as well with Plain White T’s playing. ANYwhoo… 12 hours, I am making you watch this….

This looks like a "Killer App". This has the potential to be one of those things that changes your mind and makes you says YES, i’ll dish out the $500 for this iPad just to ge tthis app. Hopefully they’ll get their stuff straight so I can adequately review. It looks soooo cool. GRR. If it would just WORK!

UPDATE: Since writing this, Flipboard posted an update to their iPad app. I updated and now am prompted with a nice little box that says "HEY, yes we suck and we know that we’re overloaded, but we are going to make you a deal -- give us your email and we’ll put you in line and let you know when we don’t suck."

So here I am Flipboard. I am waiting in line. Waiting to find out how cool you are.

I will give them props for being proactive on Twitter and on Get Satisfaction. That transperancy I do admire.

Project Neptune is a massive construction and demolition of several entities at Thomas Nelson Live Events. I am so excited to lead this project, but honestly I couldn’t lead without the team that I work with.  And no that is NOT me kissing up. I don’t kiss up.I acknowledge where acknowledgement should be acknowledged, and well – leadership, promotions and web team, consider yourselves just that. Acknowledged.

PROJECT NEPTUNE? Really?

Yes, Project Neptune because, well… I love the phrase “Shoot for the moon and even if you miss you’ll land among the stars.” But after thinking about it, the moon is GREAT and all – but the moon has been done. Mars, blah blah blah. You hear about it all the time. What about NEPTUNE? It’s so pretty and cool and blue with a fabulous name. So NEPTUNE is where we are headed and I can’t wait to get this rocket ship in motion.

I’ll documenting the journey. Since this project has multiple pieces, we’ll be planting our flag in many places – marking our domains as we accomplish milestones.

Remember the days when webdesigning involved creating images or converting and then embedding fonts in order to have a nice looking website? No more coding or converting – Google has simplified the embedding font process with the Google font directory.

Google Font Directory

The Google Font Directory lets you browse all the fonts available via the Google Font API. All fonts in the directory are available for use on your website under an open source license and are served by Google servers.

“For a long time, the web has lagged print and even other electronic media in typographic sophistication. To enjoy the visual richness of diverse fonts, webmasters have resorted to workarounds such as baking text into images. Thanks to browser support for web fonts, this is rapidly changing. Web fonts, enabled by the CSS3 @font-face standard, are hosted in the cloud and sent to browsers as needed,” explains Google.

View font details to get the code needed to embed the font on your web site. Use the Google font previewer to see exactly what your font will look like with various styles. Google is helping eliviate the font frustration! Presently there are 18 fonts to choose from available under the open source license.

A friend of mine had sent me a video of the Talking Carl iPhone app talking to another iPhone. I knew right away 2 things.

1. I MUST download Talking Carl

2. I MUST include both the iPad and the iPhone in the mix for Talking Carl to scream at his digital twin

Mission was on. I downloaded Talking Carl on both iPhone and iPad -- sat thae devices up next to each other then….. BABY started squealing.

So that is what ended up in the video. The baby talking to Talking Carl and Talking Carl iPhone talks to Talking Carl iPad to make obnoxious sounds back and forth to annoy me and baby.

My 2 older kids (5 & 7) now fight for the iPad to play with Talking Carl. Poor Carl has had to repeat television shows, screaming kids, toys that make sounds… the list goes on.

Digital Mom Review:

Talking Carl is fun, cheap and entertaining (especially when you make him repeat himself with another device). Though the app gets annoying, it kept my kids occupied for more than 10 minutes! And for 99 cents and more than 10 minutes of keeping the kids busy? I call this AWESOME.
