The first task at hand is to sign up for the service any of the available outlets island wide. (Well, those in Singapore are island wide… Can’t say the same for the rest though.) Of course, they will ask you if you need a phone, but if you already have one by all means don’t buy another. Tell the sales representative that you already own a handset.

(They may ask which model you own for market survey purposes or something, but they shouldn’t require that information to provide service.)

Once you’ve signed your contract and have your SIM card, just pop it into the phone and start making calls. (But of course, the service has to be activated first.) It is as simple as that.

As explained by Lynn Tan, a freelance IT writer based in Singapore, the past year has been a banner year for social networks as the popularity of sites such as Facebook, Second Life and YouTube, soared and large companies around the world including IBM and Cisco, scurried to join the fray.

Now, with the phenomenon showing no signs of abating, the questions goes down to - should small and mid-size businesses (SMBs) in Asia jump on the bandwagon to tap the potential of these Web 2.0 tools? (Or at least that’s what they think.)

Apparently, the answer is yes according to Steve Hodgkinson, research director at analyst company Ovum.

In this new edge generation. Meeting someone new has become as easy as tapping on your keyboard and clicking on your mouse. What I’m trying to say is that, strange enough, people seem to be looking at “online dating” as a resort to find their to-be soul mate. And who would blame them, in the society we live in, it’s quite difficult to really find the time to mingle with the crowds or wait for others to do an introduction.

Online dating is extremely popular. Many people that are put off by online dating, come around to see that online dating has its merits, at the same time it also has it risks.

There is a high probability of meeting and getting to know people online, in fact, you can and some do meet “Mr Right”. (A good example would be Rinaz.)

Apparently, Sweden’s most popular cultural export The Pirate Bay has entered the blog hosting game with new free-speech focused blogging service Baywords.

The Pirate Bay is known for defending people’s right to freedom of speech on the Internet, and this is exactly what motivated them to start this new blogging service.

The service was launched by The Pirate Bay after a friend of Brokep, one of the co-founders of the site, had his blog deleted by Automattic (WordPress.com) for linking to copyrighted material. Which somehow or other, went against the “uncensored web” philosophy of The Pirate Bay team. (more…)

First things first, I would state that cost is not everything!

It’s good if it’s cheap no doubt, but if you’re paying, let’s say, a dollar for your hosting and your site is goes up and down like a roller coaster, is there a point to begin with?

At the end of the day, you’ll end up losing precious time, and even money over these avoidable problems.

So now, let’s go through the considerations that you need to ponder in order to ensure that you get what you need.

You want to choose the web host that is going to provide your needs as they stand now as well as where they lead to in the future (esp. if you’re considering to make this a somewhat long term investment). Migrations can be a pest.

The service went live in March 2005 and was acquired by Yahoo for an estimated $10 million in January 2007.

Thereafter, he left Yahoo in July 2007.

Eric is now preparing to launch a new startup, Gnip, but details are scarce for now.

Eric isn’t saying what the new startup will do other than a hint on the site itself, “Web 2.0 Infrastructure”, and a message that the service will launch in May.

The startup is already funded, he says, with a $1 million round from Foundry Group and SoftTech VC. Foundry Group’s Brad Feld and SoftTech VC’s Jeff Clavier are joining the board of directors of the company.
