It's an edge-of-the-seat twisty-turny time loop suspense movie. A bit like Memento meets Dead Calm - but with Angel from Home and Away instead of Mike from Neighbours (or Nicole Kidman - note to self: never get on a yacht with an Aussie). It's a British film set and shot in the Appalachian Mountains of the USA - quite a bold move for a Brit flick. And he pulled it off, I think. If it's like anything, it's maybe like a film version of Vernon God Little. But more graphic. I hope nobody in the audience this morning had had a big breakfast. Murphy introduced it, saying that the film that has most influenced him is The 400 Blows, and that we'd see some allusions to it in White Lightnin'. He also said that he'd always been a good boy, but was drawn to stories about delinquents - and that when his mother saw this film, she'd said "Ah, it's your [Jungian] shadow". Good boy or not, White Lightnin' is a powerful portrait of addiction. I'd intended that there'd be a lot more of other people's opinions by now. I was just about to record an interview with the director and producer of Englishman in New York when my second battery failed... which was, um, embarrassing. The festival officially opens at 5.30 with An Englishman in New York, about the latter years of Quentin Crisp's life. The woman sitting next to me on the bus was a film sales agent, who'd seen it and liked it, but said it was "not at all commercial". So here it is, opening the festival. Anyway, there'll be special guest doing a Q&A afterwards, which I'll film and post. I think it's supposed to be a surprise, so I'd better not say who it is. Exactly as I do at <a href="http://twittervlog.tv" target="_blank"><strong>twittervlog.tv</strong></a>.</p> <p>I just wanted to be able to post a lot while I'm there - and didn't want to spam all Twittervlog's subscribers.&nbsp;</p> <p>Posterous and Twitter are the perfect solution for this kind of project - it's a slick mass-produced version of what I hacked together when I first thought up Twittervlog - cutting &amp; posting videos in my phone and autoposting via Blip to my blog and then to Twitter, so people could see &amp; respond to things as they happened.
