Update on the hearings regarding Bishop Bennison

On Monday, June 22, the Church Attorney filed, under seal, the Church’s opposition to Bishop Bennison’s motion for a new trial. Bishop Bennison’s reply, if any, is due on Monday, June 29. The Court has not yet indicated whether it will hold a hearing on the motion. If such a hearing is granted, it would likely occur in August or September, and would probably be conducted by telephone conference—with the media and the public excluded.

Grab a burger and hot dog, browse the used bookstore, take a guided tour, try the scavenger hunt, get a family picture taken, or shop in the cabin shop. Church House summer hours

The regular working hours of Church House are from 9:00 AM to 4:45 PM, Monday through Friday. These hours will continue through the month of June. Summer hours for 2009 will be in place for the months of July and August. During those two summer months, office hours will be 9:00 AM to 4:45 PM, Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon on Fridays. Church House will be closed Friday afternoons in July and August.

The Standing Committee of the Diocese of Pennsylvania, acting as the Ecclesiastical Authority of the diocese, met with Mr. Ralph White, Jr., of Philadelphia, a former member of the Episcopal Church, on January 7, 2008, at the invitation of the Rt. Rev. Allen Bartlett, retired Bishop of Pennsylvania, who was then acting as Visiting Bishop pro tempore.

Let me take you back for a moment to a time 150 years ago. To a time when James Buchanan was our 15th President – To a time when the Civil War had not yet begun, and Abraham Lincoln was not yet elected President of the United States. Picture, if you will, in your mind’s eye, a hard packed dirt road. This is Ridge Avenue. There is a small private dirt road, guarded by gates at the Ridge Avenue entrance leading to the Fairthorne Mansion. This road will later become Fairthorne Avenue.

The Right Reverend Charles E. Bennison, Jr., has filed a Motion For Extraordinary Relief Seeking The Dismissal Of The Presentment Or, In The Alternative, A New Trial with the Court for the Trial of a Bishop. The Court has entered a scheduling order under which the motion will be ready for adjudication by the Court at the end of June. The matter will then be submitted for the Court’s consideration.
