“We are very excited about the return of our core group of shows from last Fall. They dominated for us, and it will be great to see viewers reconnect,” said Mr. McPherson. “We are building momentum for our two new shows, ‘Opportunity Knocks’ and ‘Life on Mars,’ and are thrilled by their tremendous potential.”

Good news for those of you who like Money! (Anyone? Thought so! Word on the street is you also like oxygen.)

As you may have heard, filming of the ABC drama Dirty Sexy Money has been on a break since mid-June, but I'm told today that a new direction has been carved out and that the series will be back in production by the end of July. In short, DSM is back on track. In shortest: Holla!

The sophomore season of DSM is expected to hit ABC in late September, and insiders tell me creator Craig Wright and new executive producer Jon Feldman have cooked up some intriguing storylines that will please both the decision makers at the Alphabet Net and more importantly (from where I'm sitting), you, my brethren, the Dirty little fans.

What is this new direction for season dos? I went straight to big boss Wright for a sneak peek, and he kindly offered up this juicy (wear a bib), exclusive tease:

"This season it will become more evident then ever that in order to be a part of this family, it's going to cost you. The season premiere promises to bring an arresting development, a revelation that makes you wonder how well you know your spouse and a buried secret that resides just below the surface."

Now, I'm no rocket scientist, but if I had to guess, I'd say (a) someone's getting arrested, (b) someone's finding a dead body and (c) someone's playing the Newlywed Game. (Here's hoping they ask the strangest place they've made whoopie!)

Or wait, maybe the third thing is that someone's spouse has a deep, dark secret? That sounds a smidgen more believable.

Dan Humphrey, you can breathe a sigh of relief, 'cause Serena Van der Woodsen's ice queen of a grandmother won't be around next season to try and tear you away from your twue wove.

Just heard from inside sources that Caroline Lagerfelt, who plays Lily's crazy be-yotch mom on Gossip Girl has been cast as the mother of Nick George, Peter Krause's character on Dirty Sexy Money.

They tell me that as of now, Caroline is in just one episode of season two (likely the fourth or fifth), but moms have a way of staying close to their kids, so I expect we'll see more of her.

She's going to give the saga of the intertwined George and Darling families some nice dimension, don't you think?

Simon Elder's preppy-chic 16-year old son makes an appearance as Karen squares off with his mother? Tripp shares an intimate moment with Carmelita who tells him what led to her sex change? Nick travels to France to track down his mother and tell her what he really thinks about her abandoning him as a small child? I wish it was September already!

Simon Elder's handsome teenage offspring named Elon will make an appearance in next season's 4th episode of ABC's de-luxe soap "Dirty Sexy Money." Karen will hope for some her-and-Elon time as she continues to warm up to techno-philanthropist billionaire, but Elon's mother may stand in her way. Time for Ms. Darling to take off her gloves. "We had great sex this morning," she informs her holding up three fingers.

Meanwhile, Tripp Darling tries to reconnect with his son Patrick and travels to Lake Champlain to locate Carmelita. He arrives in a beauty parlor on a quaint street in the Adirondacks holding a bouquet of flavors for Carmelita. He has finally fully grasped his son's affection for Carmelita and he proposes that they help one another.

Finally, Nick takes a trip to France to speak with his mother Clare George who now lives in the lap of luxury at a chateau in Le-Vivier-Sur-Mer with her husband. She may however need return to New York to testify at Letitia Darling's murder trial. An emotional get-together brings Clare to tears as Nick accuses his mother of abandoning him.

ABC will launch this fall with perhaps the most stable schedule of any network in years.

As expected, Alphabet web revealed a fall 2008 lineup that looks a lot like its fall 2007 sked – and that’s by design.

Just two new series made it on the sked: A revised U.S. adaptation of hit BBC thriller “Life on Mars,” and Ashton Kutcher-produced reality skein “Opportunity Knocks.”

"We're returning our dominant core group of shows from last fall," McPherson said. "The few openings we had we've filled with the kind of quality programming viewers have come to expect from ABC, and we have a very strong bench."

Also new to ABC, as expected: "Scrubs," which bows on the Alphabet on Tuesdays at 9 pm in the winter, while the "Dancing with the Stars" results show is on hiatus. "Scrubs" will be paired with new animated half-hour "The Goode Family," from Mike Judge, John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky.

Also in midseason: The untitled Tyra Banks/Ashton Kutcher show, which will air Mondays at 8 during the "Dancing" break.

ABC went into the upfronts with most of its major freshman entries renewed for next year. What’s more, many of the Alphabet net’s pilots have yet to be shot – and ABC Entertainment prexy Steve McPherson made it clear that he wouldn’t schedule any new shows without first seeing some tape.

ABC’s decision to stick with a mostly stable sked is also recognition that the net was performing well in the fall – until the writers strike, and of course “American Idol,” halted that momentum.

In the plum post- “Grey’s Anatomy” slot, the twisty time-travel storyline on “Mars” seems even more natural given the show it will temporarily replace: The twisty time-travel adventures of “Lost,” which is back in midseason.

Other returning series include "According to Jim" and ABC News' "Primetime: What Would You Do?"

Dirty Sexy Money - Lucy Liu joins cast

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Lucy Liu will be back on ABC next season no matter what.

Liu is in negotiations to join the cast of the network's freshman drama "Dirty Sexy Money," which has been renewed for a second season. She most recently starred in another new ABC drama, "Cashmere Mafia."

The casting on "Sexy," where she would be a regular, is in second position to "Mafia," whose prognosis is unclear after a so-so midseason run.

Details on Liu's "Sexy" character are being kept under wraps. On the show -- a primetime soap revolving around the wealthy Darling clan and their spoiled offspring -- Liu would join a lineup that include Peter Krause, Donald Sutherland and William Baldwin. Samaire Armstrong, who was a regular during the first season, won't continue on the show full time.

Liu has been a fixture on ABC in the past year. In addition to "Mafia," she did a stint on the network's "Ugly Betty."

Liu next voices a lead character in the upcoming animated feature "Kung Fu Panda," which opens June 6.

Dirty Sexy Money will be down a Darling next season.

Samaire Armstrong, who plays Juliet, brat-astic celebutante and fraternal twin to Jeremy, will not be returning to the series full-time, sources confirm to me exclusively. A spokesperson for ABC Studios declined to comment, but a Dirty Sexy insider tells me that producers decided not to pick up Armstrong's contract option. The actress is, however, expected to appear on a recurring basis, her schedule permitting.

Last October, Armstrong entered a treatment facility for undisclosed reasons. Producers were forced to write her out of an episode, but she was back on air the following week. Whether or not Armstrong's personal issues contributed to her demotion from series regular to occasional guest star is anyone's guess.

Dirty Sexy Money has been off the air for more than three months now, and according to creator Craig Wright, we won’t see it again till 2010. Oh, he kids! The decadently fun series—and most expensive first-year drama ever made—will return this September, and last night the cast, Wright and executive producer Greg Berlanti reunited at the Paley Festival to answer questions on Peter Krause's ever-changing sideburns (one of the producers monitors them), Natalie Zea's female fan encounters (their husbands are in love with her) and, of course, what’s to come. Read on for all the Dirty scoop...

Karen Darling George? Don’t hold your breath. Sure, there may be residual feelings on both sides of this equation, but Lisa George “loves the crap out of [her husband],” according to Zoe McLellan. Besides, he just made a promise to expand their family, so a baby may be on the way. “When Nick George says something, he means it,” said Wright. “They will be going forward as a couple for a good long while.” As far as Nick’s feelings for Karen are concerned, Wright quotes Robert Frost: “You have to hold things back for pressure...It would not profit anyone to force that.”

Carmelita Darling? Don’t laugh. After all, it could be a legally recognized union, seeing as Carmelita is a woman in every sense of the word. Though DSM has not yet addressed this fact, they will find the right story moment to do so in season two. Moreover, Wright said that “Patrick is a character with a personal reality that’s cloaked in darkness...his journey toward openness shall bring him success.”

Election ’08? With the writers' strike pushing production back, Patrick’s senate bid will not follow the real-life election time line this fall, there’s just too much story to tell. But Billy Baldwin is loving the real-life drama of Eliot Spitzer, as it represents the timeliness of his character.

Have We Seen The Last of Brian, Jr.? Heck no! He’ll be back, and quite a bit.

Who Killed Nick's Dad? "Did you ever see a body?” Billy quipped, insinuating that Dutch may not actually be dead. Wright further compounded our confusion by adding, “I know who thinks they did it,” but went on to promise that the mystery will be solved relatively soon. Had it not been for the strike, that storyline would’ve been put to bed by the end of season one.

Will Nick Have a Secret Serial Killer Past? Former Dexter show runner Daniel Cerone has jumped on board to helm season two, and though he has no plans to insert a murder streak into the series, Wright said Cerone's expertise will change DSM slightly, giving it a new rhythm and relieving it from its own hyperactivity. The audience will get just as much story as we enjoyed before, but will delve deeper into specific issues.

Is There a Hatch Involved? Wright has the entire mythic structure of the series mapped out, and knows how he’d like to see it ultimately end. In fact, if anyone’s read the “Divine Comedy” from start to finish, they should have a pretty good idea of where his head’s at. (Side note: Wright wrote for Lost before getting DSM off the ground.)

ABC shows return in April

ABC's signature skeins are back in April with original, post-writers strike shows, the net said Wednesday.

Alphabet's key Thursday night sked will be back on April 24, with "Lost" moving up to 10 p.m. to make room for the return of "Grey's Anatomy" at 9 p.m. ("Ugly Betty" is back at 8.) All three shows will run five more originals, taking the night through May sweeps.

"Desperate Housewives" returns with seven new hours starting Sunday, April 13 at 9 p.m., with five weeks of originals, followed by a two-hour finale.

"Housewives" companion "Brothers & Sisters" is back on April 20 at 10 p.m., with four more segs.

Also returning: "Boston Legal" is back Tuesdays at 10 p.m. starting April 8, with six more episodes. ABC's only frosh skein returning in the spring, "Samantha Who?," is back on Monday, April 7 at 9:30 p.m. with six originals.

As previously announced, freshman dramas "Pushing Daisies," "Private Practice" and "Dirty Sexy Money" won't be back until fall.

Although ABC isn't talking, my Sexy spies tell me that the Alphabet net will likely order 13 episodes of DSM for the fall, with the three unaired hours from this season kicking off that run. Sort of like what ABC did with Men in Trees, only without the schizophrenic scheduling. I hope.
