Dischromatics provides CD Duplication and DVD Duplication from its in-house suite of modern duplication and printing equipment. Duplicated discs are available in small runs and there are various printing options that are on offer.

We have found from some customers who have purchased product elsewhere previously, that many suppliers are using substandard quality discs and even using an ink jet printing method on standard discs. In order to avoid smudging and scratches to the print result, it is necessary to either lacquer the discs and dry them in a specially built apparatus to exclude fumes or use watershield discs which are coated and react with the ink to achieve perfect results.

Dischromatics uses Taiyo Yuden Watershield disks when ink jet printing; in fact all variations of discs used by this company are grade A quality from Sony DADC or Taiyo Yuden.

There is further advantage in using Dischromatics for copying CD and DVD as they also provide in-house digital printing and can offer even special CD and DVD packaging products like Digipaks in small runs. Because they have control of every aspect of production, the final costs are cheaper than their competitors and the turnaround time is quicker.

Also available are USB Flash Memory drives and Pen drives which can also be copied with customer data and printed to customer artwork.

Dischromatics works with many artists groups and bands throughout the UK and Europe to produce their singles and albums. Statistics show that the demand for Blu-ray replication is increasing but DVD Replication still has a place at the top table. We have seen CD Replication wane considerably but even these products still show some healthy demand.

Although DVD Replication cannot compete with what Blu-ray has to offer, not everyone needs the capacity and extra features of BD discs. Some customers requiring DVD-Rom whether its DVD-Video or DVD-Audio are satisfied with what these Replicated DVD can offer.

The change from Recorded VHS Video tapes to DVD Replication was a revolutionary change in data delivery and somewhat different to the change from Vinyl to CD Replication, no more problems with tape breakages or getting stuck in the player and with an unparalleled boost in quality output and performance. There are of course different capacities available with all these Optical Discs. a 12cm single side, single layer Replicated DVD-5 has a capacity of 4.7GB, DVD-9 is a single sided dual layer disc with 8.5GB, whilst a DVD-10 is a double sided disc with a single layer and 9.4GB. Less common is the DVD-14 which is actually a DVD-5 single layer bonded to a DVD-9 dual layer and has 13.24GB capacity. Finally there is the DVD-18 with two DVD-9 dual layer discs bonded together having a capacity of 17GB.

In 2006 and similar to the battle between VHS and Betamax tapes, a war broke out between the supporting companies of HD DVD and Blu-ray Discs. However with a maximum capacity of a dual layer HD DVD of 30GB and a dual layer Replicated Blu-ray with the ability to hold up to 50GB, there was really no option. With Sony Playstation being supplied with Blu-ray drives and the ability of these drives to be backwards compatible and able to play DVD, the success for BD discs was inevitable.

Certainly we are seeing a bigger demand for Blu-ray Replication, but there has been no drop in orders for DVD Replication, both Video and Audio. Considering the quality processes and materials used as well as the high spec industrial equipment that has to be used to produce CD Replication, DVD Replication and especially Blu-ray Replication, the prices of these products are comparitively inexpensive, although there is naturally quite an uplift for BD which is understandable.

Replicated DVD, Blu-ray and CD is used for larger volumes, normally from a minimum of 1000. Duplication is available for smaller quantities of Duplicated DVD and CD but not Blu-ray. There are qualtiy issues that will stop the discs working in certain drives. This company will never knowingly supply product that is not fit for purpose.

We are aware that other duplication companies supply lesser graded product which could possibly fail with the loss of valuable data. These companies offer CD and DVD copying at a cheaper price in some cases but the cost to their customers will actually be far higher due to failure of the disks. Dischromatics only uses product from Sony DADC and Taiyo Yuden which comes with guarantees and will not let customers down.

Some CD and DVD Discs are manufactured using less material resulting in a far thinner disk which when offered up to the light allows you to see through the disc. Also the result of this thinner disc could be that the grooves are not as deep so the data copying may not be retained. Certain dyes also under perform in direct sunlight.

We understand how difficult it is in these times to find reputable suppliers on the internet due to the ability of some companies to be able to rate highly on search engines like Google because they have discovered an unconventional way to fool the search engines and finish up higher in the rankings than these more reputable and established organisations. All the more reason for customers to carry out checks, including credit checks to find out if the company is even viable as some are already trading whilst insolvent, and in many case are very small in comparison to claims on their websites, so are unable to maintain a professional service.

Beware When Buying CD and DVD Duplication, the Quality May Not be What You Expect.

It could be an expensive mistake buying cheaper product as it could cost you much more in the long run. You could suffer Data loss on certain CD and DVD manufactured discs.

Today there are a multitude of companies selling CD and DVD duplication through their web sites on the internet. Many of these companies purport to be the best in some way or another. In many cases the companies that make the biggest claims are small back room enterprises.

Whilst it is natural for companies and individuals to want to get the best possible deal for their money, it is not always a good idea to buy the cheapest. In some cases, companies do offer good deals on good quality product but in the main the old adage, you get what you pay for still reigns supreme. It’s worth doing a financial check on companies prior to placing your order.

If you were to put CD Duplication into Google, one of the companies that come first in the rankings states that “We are the UK's leading CD/DVD/Blu-ray duplicator providing exceptional quality at the lowest UK prices” but if you were to run a credit check on this company, you would find that they are particularly small with an advised credit limit of £Nil and a working capital of minus £85,505, effectively insolvent. Additionally, not only are they not the leading duplicator in the UK but they do not offer the lowest prices either. Other top ranked sites which are equally as small and in trading difficulty don’t even display a company address and the phone number is a 0800 number. They all use one superlative or another, none of which are likely to be true.

This is the problem with Google searches, people have found a method to get to the top which would not be termed ethical and unfortunately Google have been unable to filter these insignificant sites out of the searches. So they are left to supply sub-standard product and services to their customers, giving the whole industry a bad name. Because of their need to survive, they drive prices down whilst they are trading but when they disappear, many of their old customers expect to keep paying a low price but for substantially better quality product.

To come back to CD and DVD Discs, there are a number of grades of these products on the market and there are suppliers who are on the look out for the low grade cheap product to make a fast buck! However, many of these discs lose data over time, whether its CD Duplication or DVD Duplication, it could be more costly to buy these cheaper discs than spend a few pence more in getting quality product which will last the course.

There are a number of instances of poor quality discs which can be cited, they are usually thinner and you can see through them when holding them up to the light. The lacquering fades, especially when left in sunlight, which often happens to discs people leave on their desk and they sit next to or close to a window, these two instances alone will account for a large proportion of losses but there are other problems including the depth of the groove being insufficient.

The only solution for all of these problems is to build a relationship with a quality supplier, one that has traded for many years and only supplies quality product such as Taiyo Yuden and in particular Sony DADC who have an excellent reputation for quality of CDR and DVDR products. They do not suffer the problems of fade and retain the data where the others fail.
