Charming! The first time we saw OG datamoshing was in the absolutely fantastic video for "Are You the One?" by the Presets, and we thought it was kind of confusing but immensely cool. Obvi, the video for "Evident Utensil" by Disconap Best Album of 2008 Laureates Chairlift could have been recorded in five minutes on a FlipCam and we still would have been all "OMG AMAZING", but this whole datamoshing (so fucked up that we're already trying to think of a catchier way to say the word "datamoshing") thing suits their style well" beautiful yet weird and slightly flawed.

God we love Chairlift. But we will say, we've can't recall anyone ever releasing TRAILER for their new video (in this case, the amazing intergalactic slow-jam "Roche"). It's hard to tell WHEN PEOPLE USE ALL CAPS ALL THE TIME), while looking for new and inventive ways of making Katy Perry listenable. Holy mother of Christ, this remix is fucking amazing. We basically sat in front of the computer making more and more confused faces until it ended and we started it again. If Katy Perry sounded like this all the time she would have easily been our breakout artist for 2008*. Instead, it takes some kid making YouTube remixes with Garageband to make one of the highest selling new female artists around not make us want to take a chainsaw to our nether regions. Who ever said the world made sense (we believe it may have been Confucius, but that is neither here nor there, really).

Amaxing (typo, keeping it).

*While being amazing, "Hot N Cold (Daddy Nino remix)" does not make up for "I Kissed a Girl".

Had You Told Us That The New Lily Allen Single Would Make Us Like Pop Music Again We Would Have Laughed In Your Face

100% Amazing.

Everything with You

I think that I must be living under a rock because all that I’ve been listening to of late are albums that I’ve had in the collection for a while. What’s going on 2008? With the exception of School of Seven Bells’ Alpinisms and Cut Copy’s Ghost Colours -- it might as well be 2001 for me. I’m hoping for something big to WOW me in 2009.

One album that everyone should take a listen to this coming February is the full-length debut album by the Pains of Being Pure at Heart. It's a Saturday (COINCIDENCE??? I THINK NOT) and we were going about our normal weekend schedule--making a hearty breakfast, idly channel surfing, perhaps daydreaming a little about Daniel Craig and how we haven't seen Quantum of Solace yet, and of course reading a week's worth of posts on our favorite pop blog, Popjustice.com. It's when stumbling upon a post about The Saturdays, a rather, to be frank, hit-or-miss girl group currently making a name for themselves across the pond. We were about to scroll down the page in with our usual sigh of "OH WELL, NOTHING TO REPORT AROUND HERE" when suddenly, a name caught our eye. A glorious name: VINCE CLARKE. I.E., Vince Clarke of Depeche Mode/Yaz/Erasure fame.

UM, HOLY SHIT.

Turns out Vince decided to do the world a favor and remix "Issues" The Saturdays' (quite terrible) obligatory third single ballad. It wouldn't be quite as bad if they had somehow worked "Oh Jack, I wish I could quit you" into the chorus (you'll see). That would have been pretty rad, but instead it's just kind of boring and goes on for a bit. Anyway, Vince makes it all better, so here's that.

The Saturdays - Issues (Vince Clarke Radio Edit)

Amazing.

And here's the original if you're interested.

We'd like for you to assist at the death of our credibility

(What credibility?--World)

We don't know if it's these hard American times, the economy, the lack of health care, the war, and all the national strife that is beginning to seriously impair our mental health, but after last week's misguided confession of our love for the song "Human" by serial musical offenders The Killers, we'd like to present our DN reader(s) with our newest earworm:

Forgive us Father, for we have sinned.

Don't get it twisted: this is not in any way, shape or form an acceptance of the aural cancer known as "I Kissed A Girl" or any other missive Ms. Perry may have shot at an unsuspecting world from the fiery gates of Hell. Seriously, Katy Perry is categorically THE WORST, but our diseased minds find some sort of sick pleasure in playing back the chorus of "Hot N Cold" ALL THE FUCKING TIME without respite, day in, day out. Either we are complete masochists (not entirely out of the realm of possibilities, frankly) or like say, "Turn Back Time" by Aqua, a shitty artist has managed to release a decent song, made even better compared to the awfulness of the rest of their work. Actually who are we kidding, we love Aqua.

Stick A Fork In Us, We're Done

In all our days on this Earth we have only found there to be two universal truths: everyone dies someday, and the Killers are shit. Like, really, really shit. Ever since their faux-'80s stylings of 2003, we've often wished someone would take it upon themselves to eradicate the Killers from this planet like the musical plague that they are, and each day we got closer and closer to taking on the task ourselves. After all, as the saying goes, if you want an immensely overrated and annoying band destroyed right, you have to do it yourself.

It's our policy to try to not talk about bands we hate on DN (especially when there are so many Sophia von Bextorvilles and Kylissia Minoguerites to blog about), but today is an exception. Readers, fuck it, the brimstone fires of hell hath frozen the fuck over, because fuck us, FUCK US, the new Killers single is amazing.

(On a related note, a big FUCK YOU to Universal for always making their videos non-embeddable. Way to tap into that great viral marketing tool called THE INTERNET, you simple fucks. If you want to watch the video it's here).

Anyway back to the end of humanity: we're pretty sure that in the first draft of the Book of Revelations there was a fifth horseman called Brandon Flowers who lead the whole pack of Pestilence and Famine or whatever with this fucking new Killers album. We wish we could say WE CAN'T but in actuality we most certainly CAN and frankly we're not sure how we feel about it all. All we can say is their next single better be shitty or we are hanging up our dancing shoes and joining Rachel Stevens in her forgotten, underground pop bunker. After the amazing run that Blackout had (and by "amazing" we mean "Gimme More"), it all seemed too much, too soon--new album, new single, supposed mental stability. "Womanizer" was a little bit of fluff on the end of a year that saw Britney plunge to the deepest depths (VMAs, anyone?), and score some of the musical highlights of her career. Interesting stuff, right? Yeah. Well, surprise, turns out that "Womanizer" is the best Britney single since "Slave 4 U". HOW'S THAT FOR A TWIST.

Anyone who reads this blog (i.e. two people) knows that Britney is one of our favorite modern pop stars: a completely blank canvas for genius marketing directors and press agents to craft what they think the best pop star in the world should be. Yeah, it almost destroyed her, but "Womanizer" is hopefully the light at the end of a dank, dark, tunnel.

Get into it guys. GET. N. 2. IT.

PS: "You say I'm crazy/I got your crazy" is such a better line that "It's Britney bitch".

Oh look...

...we've logged into Blogger for the first time in a month because it's the weekend and it's raining, to bring you "news" about an artist everyone has heard already. Not BRILLIANT, as in "I wish something BRILLIANT like "Biology" from Girls Aloud would come around again already" but GOOD as in "That first Cut Copy album is pretty good, isn't it?"

If we were to imagine a scenario in which Ladyhawke was about to leap to her death from the balcony she is on in the above photograph, we'd say something like "NO! Don't do it, because we like your music, even though the bridge on "Runaway" is note for note the bridge on "Video Killed the Radio Star", and none of the songs are quite as good as "My Delirium"!" In our imagination, we would yell this from a top of a firetruck filled with really hot men into a discoball bullhorn.

Ladyhawke: 80% amazing.

This is Manda Rin...

...from criminally underrated '90s indie pop band bis (we're fairly sure "bis" is meant to be spelled sans capitalization. We're OCD like that).

We basically had a little bit of a pee in our pants when we realized that Manda was coming out with her first solo album, as bis were basically the best band in the whole world, ever. Actually, Manda's new single "My DNA" makes us kind of indescribably sad, because while it's 101% Fucking Amazing, it would be 1001% Fucking Amazing if it were a new bis single. Where are you, Sci-Fi Steven and Disco John. Where are you.

:(

but :).

Anyway. Check out "DNA"on Manda's MySpace page. It's the perfect pop song in that you're just excited about it being a new song with Manda Rin's voice on it until the chorus comes in and you're like UH OMG THIS IS THE BEST SONG EVER. Coldplay take note: don't fuck up your chorus. Speaking of Coldplay, we're gearing up for a huge Keane post in a little while, though we suppose that's another post for another time.

God, we love Keane.

Anyway, Manda Rin.

Manda Rin - My DNA [streaming via MySpace]

That said

We just got the debut Friendly Fires album, and we like it, so here's to that. But alas readers, those days are over. It's now with heavy fingertips that we update this blog because, for fucking real, WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON.

Today we opened up our Google Reader to find several blogs referring to a new T.I. song, "Live Your Life", featuring the aforementioned international contemporary R&B diva Rihanna. "Oh awesome," we stupidly thought, "maybe the world isn't a bottomless pit of retardation and they'll actually be a song we want to fucking listen to today, and hey, maybe we'll even like it." Silly, silly Disconappers. Haven't you realized that those days are over? It's all Chris Brown Doublemint Gum commercials and Katy Perry fake lesbians from here on out. You might as well put on some Can records and call it a day, because pop music is officially meaningless.

Why this sudden outburst? We'll tell you: "Live Your Life", the lovely T.I./Rihanna ditty, samples "Numa Numa". That's right. NUMA FUCKING NUMA.

THIS GUY:

AND THESE GUYS:

...are being sampled by T.I. and Rihanna. Like really, why do we even bother? Why do we bother with music and pop stars if this is what we get in return? A rapper with 67 kids high off his ass surfing the Most Viewed category on YouTube and a 20-year-old who can't say FUCK TO THE NO when presented with such an idiotic song? WHY DO WE BOTHER?

Here's the song if you give a shit.

T.I. featuring Rihanna - Live Your Life

Whatever. There's still amazing stuff out there like the Friendly Fires album and Cof Cof and Chairlift, but sometimes it feels like we do all the work. They're frankly the best Adult Contemporary band out there (with Tigercity coming in at a close second) and if you'd rather sit back in your "nightclubs" and listen to "techno" then go right ahead (though it must be boted that the Disconappers do enjoy a little "untzz untzz" and "umcha umcha" every now and again).

Anyway, we really want to hear this. We'll bet anything that his bedroom is in Florida but we digress.

While we're wary of the Walt Disney Company being basically a government-fronted cultural infiltration op (not kidding), why they're not knocking on Dannyhott's front door this very instant we have no idea. This picture might as well be titled "What Kind Of Gay Are You?".

We came across Juvelen when two blogs we respect and admire, Popjustice and Electroqueer raved, almost simultaneously, about "Don't Mess", and we were, briefly, intrigued. We must say, it's quite amazing, even though at the moment the jury is still out on whether Juvelen sounds more like Prince or Mika (we're kind of going with Mika, which says more about us than Juvelen, frankly).

Here's a quite brilliant remix of "Don't Mess" by Krazie Fiesta (misspelled band names--the '90s are back indeed!).

Juvelen - Don't Mess (Krazie Fiesta remix) (YSI) (zShare)

*DISCLAIMER: Disconap.blogspot.com realizes that this is the oldest news ever, so don't bother pointing it out. We can tell you all those things about Richard Simmons though (long story).

We're quickly changing our stance on the Presets' album

Full disclosure: when Apocalypto first came out, we're ashamed to say that we quickly filed it under "This Boy's In Love" + 9 tracks that will rack up an iTunes play count of exactly 1" and called it a day, but it seems like the record has decided to stop being lame and start being AMAZING, as this video for the new single "Talk Like That" will attest. />But it's quite a catchy kind of socio-political backpedal, isn't it?

That was the video for "Bad Girls", the new Danity Kane single that isn't anywhere near the brilliance of "Damaged" (but frankly, friends, what is). Yes, we have deep seeded problems with Danity Kane, one of which being their total inability to make a video that doesn't make us want to keel over and die, but with the stale state of pop music at the moment, we're saddened to say we'll take what we can get. At least they didn't make a sudden turn as heart surgeons in this promo.

:(

On another note, of all the decent R&B acts at the moment, why the hell would Missy choose to make her comeback writhing in a tracksuit with Danity Motherfucking Kane? We know the velvet glove of Puff Daddy reaches far and wide across the land of hip hop, but couldn't she have at least hooked up with Rihanna? Fuck, Ms. Kelly? ANYBODY? Missy, you embarrass us, you embarrass yourself. We like your hair though.

All this does is make us miss Aaliyah more than we already do. EVERY DAY IS A STRUGGLE.

:( x everything in the world squared.

When did the Feeling...

...become Jellyfish?

We have nothing against the Feeling--Lord knows the world is in need to a gayer version of Coldplay--but they've always seemed a little "by the numbers" to us, and have never really wowed us in the way that Keane (shut up) has in the past. So instead of watching that whole 50% Amazing video (it's for the Feeling's new single "Join With Us" by the way), why not watch this 100% Amazing video of Puffy AmiYumi covering "Joining a Fan Club" by Jellyfish. "Divine" is an amazing, amazing track, and we can't recall who actually won Eurovision, but it probably wasn't as good as the video you just watched. J'accuse, Eurovision.
