This system can control home appliances with a cell phone from anywhere in the world, provided you have cell phone reception. You send a text message to the system such as “Turn lamp on”. The system will receive the text message and turn the lamp on, as well as reply with a text message saying “Light is now on!” to verify the command was received and executed. This is a system we developed for our senior design project at IUPUI (Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis). The members of the team are all electrical engineering students. We programmed the Olimex PIC-GSM development board using C in MPLAB.
