Have you noticed that it just doesn’t FEEL the same in Disney World this year?? The “most spookiest time of the year” seems to have been pushed aside in favor of that other big thing that happened in October — the 50th Anniversary. Not to mention Christmas decorations (!!!) are already showing up on the scene! Honestly, it doesn’t feel like the Halloween we have come to look forward to at Disney World in past years. It got us wondering…did Disney World get cheated out of Halloween this year?

Just think about it — if you go to the parks on any given day right now, you might not feel like the spooky spirit is around at all. So what gives??

The Traditional Mickey Pumpkin Wreaths Were Replaced

The most iconic Halloween decorations at Magic Kingdom (possibly all of Disney World!) are the Mickey pumpkin wreaths and we look forward to seeing them every year — they’re one of the first indications of the spooky season. And this year, we DID get Mickey pumpkin wreaths…

Mickey Pumpkins Galore!

…for a while. But then they were replaced by Cinderella Pumpkin Wreaths in honor of the 50th Anniversary (because, apparently, Cinderella is more 50th than MICKEY ). Sure, the new wreaths are a bit “classier” for the big anniversary event than cartoonish Mickey pumpkin heads flickering down the street, but it’s just not the same for those Halloween stans.

And we’re #sorrynotsorry but these new wreaths are WAY less Halloweeny. The Cindy pumpkins feel like if your family was WAY into Halloween but this year your mom is like, “we’re not putting plastic skeletons and spiders and fake cobwebs all over the yard like we have EVERY year. This year, we’re going with a much classier rustic Autumn Harvest theme!” Sure it’s still “festive” but it’s also a lot less whimsical. Well, at least they have fall-like colors, right?

The Lack Of Halloween Snacks

Usually around this time of the year, we are inundated with orange icing, fall flavors, and pumpkin treats. We’re not kidding when we say it feels like Disney opens the black and orange sprinkle floodgates and we find ourselves drowning in a sea of pumpkin spice EVERYTHING. And although we’ve had a few Halloween treats (most of the new ones were at Boo Bash, but we’ll get to THAT in a second!), they really haven’t been around much this year. Why? Because the 50th Anniversary started on October 1st and brought in over 150 new food and drink items.

So our normally spoopy orange and black e-ver-y-thing was replaced this year by blue food coloring, edible glitter, and enough chocolate “50” medallions to fill all the treasure chests in Pirates of the Caribbean. And with all those new snacks arriving, the Halloween snacks just sort of got…forgotten this year.

One of the best spots for classically fun Halloween treats, the Main Street Confectionery, has even been a bit of a bummer this year. When the Halloween treats arrived on the scene (in the shadow of all the “EARidescent” 50th treats), this is what we found…

Are Those M&M’s OK??

…hmm. These were kind of an afterthought, right? (That’s not even getting into how there’s something suspect going on with those M&M’s there that we’re not quite sure about!) Yes, there has been a good bit more over at Big Top Treats, but it is repeats of stuff we’ve seen in past years, nothing new or exciting really. And this seems to be one of the bigger spots to find seasonal treats. Other parks and resorts have followed the suit for the most part — limited repeat Halloween snacks from past years (if any) tucked in around all the 50th goodies. 

Where’s all the new stuff at?

Yes, we loved the Haunted Mansion Muppet Eclairs at PizzeRizzo, but where are all the other Halloween treats, Disney World?

Here Are 7 Disney Inspired Halloween Cocktails to Make at Home!

No Halloween Cavalcades

Okay, so we knew there wouldn’t be any Halloween parades this year even at Boo Bash (again, we’ll get into the Halloween Parties, or lack thereof, in a bit!), but at least last year, we got Halloween cavalcades with the characters in costume, the villains, and the Nightmare Before Christmas gang. This year? Forget about it. There are NO Halloween Cavalcades.

Instead, the only NEW cavalcade we’re getting is the — you guessed it — 50th anniversary cavalcade.

The Lack of Costumed Guests

Lest we forget last year was also a big deal for costume-lovers — Disney allowed guests of all ages to wear Halloween costumes in Magic Kingdom for most of the Halloween season in 2020. This was previously reserved for guests at the Halloween Parties (and of course children have always been allowed to wear costumes as long as they fit Disney’s guidelines).

It was a…different year for Disney World, and the decision to allow everyone to wear costumes was likely the result of canceling the Halloween parties entirely in 2020. But for guests that got to experience it last year, it’s still a loss this year (especially considering the lack of offerings and cost of Boo Bash might make that a skippable event for some guests).

Boo Bash Isn’t Comparable to Mickey’s Not-So Scary Halloween Party

We’re just going to say it — this year’s After Hours Boo Bash technically costs more than the last Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in 2019, but it isn’t even close to being comparable to offering the same amount of value. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Party had a LOT more entertainment (and we get that we are still living in the age of socially-distanced entertainment, but still…). And it was a longer party!

But now that Disney World is looking towards the holidays and the Mickey’s Very Merriest After Hours Party, we’re starting to see just how much the Halloween parties got short-changed — the Christmas events will have an actual parade and a special fireworks and stage show. Boo Bash didn’t get that, AT ALL. They got largely the same cavalcades that were running all day long free with general admission last year. That was it!

You could see Oogie Boogie and pals all day long last year — no separate ticket required!

And those event-exclusive treats we typically get SO pumped to check out? Yeah, it was a funnel cake and 2 drinks this year. Dat’s it!

So even the one place you’d expect to REALLY have Halloween vibes thrown at you — the Halloween-centric parties — you really…didn’t.

No Fireworks at Boo Bash

Like we said, there aren’t any special fireworks at the Boo Bash. We covered this above but it’s also getting its own section because we’re still wondering WHY. When Boo Bash was first announced back in May, fireworks still hadn’t returned to Disney World, so it made sense to announce no fireworks show at the party. Problem was that since then, Disney has brought BACK nightly fireworks to Magic Kingdom. Once fireworks returned, we waited to see if a late-coming fireworks show would appear for Boo Bash but, alas, it did not. Guests can still check out Enchantment most nights but a Halloween show? Nope.

It would be a lot more understandable if Disney World hadn’t announced a separate fireworks show for Mickey’s Very Merriest After Hours Party. Boo Bash is about as bare-bones of an event as it could be, but to see the Christmas events get essentially most of what guests got at past Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Parties stings a bit. So guests who attend the Very Merriest After Hours Party now get opportunities to see Enchantment PLUS a Christmas-themed fireworks show during their stay. Poor Boo Bash.

The Characters Aren’t Wearing Halloween Costumes

Even last year, when Disney World didn’t have a Halloween party offering, we still got to see the characters in their Halloween costumes during the day. Well, this year, just about the only place you’re going to get to see that outside of Boo Bash is if you book a reservation at Hollywood and Vine’s Halloween Dine at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Halloween Dine is the only place you’ll get to see Vampire Mickey this year.

This year, the characters in the parks are all sporting their EARidescent 50th anniversary outfits. It seems largely the result of bad timing once again. Disney World having its birthday the SAME month as all things spooky is really putting a dampener on the holiday, huh?

Where the Buckets at?!

Similar to Halloween treats arriving on the scene, we’ve come to expect that with the changing of the seasons comes the changing of the buckets. Popcorn buckets, that is. Christmas and Halloweentime are basically the Superbowl for Disney World popcorn buckets and sippers. We usually find a handful of different styles of buckets around the parks and possibly a sipper or two.

So here’s the thing — this year we DID get a couple buckets. But they’re largely exiled to Disney Springs where they can live their spooky lives and not interfere with the much more EARidescent other options around the parks. (Yep, once again, the 50th Anniversary edged out Halloween a bit!) As far as the buckets we HAVE seen, most are repeats from past years or from other parks to boot.

The 50th Anniversary Mickey Balloon Popcorn Buckets and Minnie Mouse Anniversary Sippers might be selling out in Magic Kingdom and getting all the love, but in quiet pockets of Disney World, the spooky buckets are patiently waiting for their forever homes.

We love Halloween around here including all the treats, decor, and merchandise that comes with it, but this year definitely seems to have a lot less spooky energy in the air. Disney World’s anniversary was bound to take the spotlight since a 50th birthday just comes once but Halloween happens EVERY year. We totally get it, but we do still miss eating our way through all the new black and orange foods Disney could throw at us. There’s always next year (plus we did still have a nice Halloween season at Disney World, even if it has been greatly diminished).

But, hey, at least it looks like the holidays will get some representation in the parks, but we have to wonder if it’s still going to feel more like the 50th anniversary than the holidays? Time will tell. We guess we’ll know for sure if Cinderella carriage Christmas wreaths start showing up!

Some went straight to Disney+, like Mulan and Soul, some released in theaters, like Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and others went to both, like Black Widow and Jungle Cruise. There are even more exciting Disney movies ahead, and today, Pixar released a first look at the origin story of one of our favorite toys!

A NEW teaser trailer has been released for Pixar’s Lightyear — the story of the original Buzz Lightyear!

Lightyear was announced in December of 2020 and is about the space hero character that the toy Buzz Lightyear is based on. While Buzz the toy is voiced by Tim Allen in the Toy Story movies, Buzz in his origin story is voiced by Captain America himself, Chris Evans!

The movie was previously announced to premiere on June 17th, 2022, but the teaser trailer just says “Summer 2022,” so it’s possible Disney is leaving it a little more vague in case there are any delays (like there were recently with Marvel). You can check out the new teaser trailer below!

Happy Halloween!

While some of our favorite Halloween snacks can be found in the parks and Disney Springs, the Disney resorts have been known to create some unexpected winners as well! Recently, we made our way over to a Value Resorts to try the newest fall treat in Disney World; was it worth a visit?

Beware of spiders on the new Spooky Apple Spiced Spider Cupcake! This treat is made of a vanilla cupcake with apple filling and a spiced buttercream, caramel drizzle, and sugar spiders. 

We’ve had other apple-filled cupcakes before, so we were curious just how this one would be!

Cute!!

But, what about taste? We’ll start with the toppings. The spiders on top are made of sugar. They’re not overly sweet (which is nice) and they provide a nice crunchy, texture change to the otherwise soft treat.

The icing is pretty sweet as it’s a vanilla buttercream, with a hint of cinnamon in it. The vanilla cake is very moist and yummy, just as a cupcake should be.

Spooktacular!

And, now we get to the most unique part of the cupcake — the apple filling! The filling was actually nice and fresh and had a light spice to it, which wasn’t overwhelming at all. The filling was also slightly cold, which was wonderfully refreshing on a hot Florida day.

All together, the parts of the cupcake go together really well. There’s sweetness from the icing, a hint of spice in the buttercream, a freshness from the apples, and a crunch from the sugar spiders. We wish there had been a stronger spice flavor to really take this cupcake up a notch, but overall it was still very good.

This Was a Really Good Treat!

Our reporter who tried this said it’s probably one of their favorite cupcakes they’ve had recently on property because of its simplicity. Sometimes something simple done well is better than something overly complicated.

If you like apple and vanilla flavors, we have a feeling you’ll enjoy this. If those flavors aren’t your jam, then there are PLENTY of other cupcake options throughout Disney World you can try instead!

If you do want to get this spooky cupcake, it can be yours for $5.49. According to Disney’s guide for Halloween, the treat is meant to be available right now through October 31st at the food courts for Disney’s Art of Animation, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort, and Disney’s All-Star Music Resort. We checked some of the other spots earlier and couldn’t find it. But, today we found it over at the World Premiere Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort.

Would You Try This Treat?

A food court at a value resort might not be the first place you think of to go for tasty Disney World treats. But, sometimes these spots can produce some delicious snacks, especially when it comes to cupcakes! So, be sure to check those bakery cases and see what you find.

The 2021 Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend is approaching quickly, so those registered only have a few weeks to prepare before their races. But after all that hard work, you’ll get to have some exclusive fun with the runDisney Post-Race Party!

There will be lightsaber training, unique food offerings (looking at you, blue shrimp), an immersive storyline, a trip to Galaxy’s Edge, and more. Booking windows have already been opened for select guests, like Annual Passholders, and general booking will be available on October 28th. But, before you book, you should know that a lot of dates have already filled up!

All dates in March 2022 are currently booked except for March 31st. After that, April 17th and May 5th are no longer available. Here is a full look at the current availability for the first 3 months of Galactic Starcruiser:

These dates could be replenished in the future, so we’ll keep an eye out if anything becomes available again. Remember that a stay aboard the Galactic Starcruiser is unlike any other hotel experience at Disney World. We made our way over to EPCOT recently to see what merchandise, food items, and more, we could spot. From an adorable photo that’s sure to make you smile to new merchandise items you might want to snatch up, we’ve got all the updates right here for you!

EPCOT Food Updates

We’ll start with some food updates!

Brew-Wing at the EPCOT Experience

As part of the 2021 International Food and Wine Festival, you can stop by the NEW Brew-Wing at the EPCOT Experience booth. This booth has a variety of wings, other snacks, and drinks available. During a recent trip, we noticed 3 new beers have made their way onto the menu — Neon Neon Rainbows New England Double IPA, Soft Parade Berry Ale, and Bomb Berry Blueberry IPA.

Karamell-Küche in Germany

Over at the Germany pavilion, we stopped by Karamell-Küche (one of the best sweet spots in EPCOT). There, we saw that one of our FAVORITE treats of all time — the Salted Caramel Cupcake — has received a special 50th Anniversary makeover! Of course, we had to buy it and give it a try.

And yes, it was as delicious as ever with that chocolate cake, salted caramel buttercream, and caramel drizzle on top! If you haven’t tried this treat yet, what are you doing?!

EPCOT Merchandise Updates

The Creations Shop

Over at the Creations Shop, we spotted a new-to-us fluffy & fuzzy, tie-dye spirit jersey for kids. The spirit jersey is in a sort-of tie-dye/bleach design with hidden Mickeys scattered throughout!

So Fuzzy!

On the back, it has the Walt Disney World logo.

Cute!

Italy Pavilion

Over in the Italy pavilion, we found a whole bunch of items that were new to us! First, there’s a new polo shirt with the word “Topolino” on it (the Italian name for Mickey!). It also features Mickey and Pluto speeding by in a very cute car!

We also spotted a shirt with Mickey on it that says “Tutto bene.”

In terms of other updates, over between the Morocco and France pavilions, we noticed that the construction walls have come down, revealing a nicely prepared spot with 2 booths — Brazil…

We even spotted the Brazil booth open and operating in this new spot recently.

So, don’t panic if you’re looking for one of these booths the next time you’re in the park. They haven’t disappeared from their old spots, they may have just moved!

In terms of general updates and construction, we hopped on the monorail when we went to EPCOT and got a view of the park from above.

Things Are Moving Along!

Finally, over at the Seas with Nemo and Friends, we checked in on our sea urchin friends and found something that’s bound to make you smile. Recently, 3-D printed Mickey ears were placed in the tank, and sea urchins naturally like to pick up things around them. We had seen them pick up a single hat, but during a recent visit one sea urchin had on 2 HATS!

Rainy Day in the Magic Kingdom

But there’s one big thing you definitely want to make sure you prepare for…the weather! The weather in Orlando can be hot and sunny, wet and rainy, and even surprisingly cold at times (and sometimes all 3 hit within a short period of time). If you’re planning to visit Disney World this week, we’ve got an important weather update for you.

According to FOX 35 Orlando, Central Florida could be in for some severe weather this week. FOX Orlando shares that a strong cold front is set to swing across East Central Florida this week on Thursday. The cold front will increase “the threat for strong to severe storms and possibly isolated tornadoes.”

The increasing moisture ahead of the cold front, in addition to the warm air, will reportedly create an environment that is “favorable for storm development.” The FOX 35 Storm Meteorologist, Kristin Giannas, has said, “Our main threats as this front moves over the state will be strong gusty winds, lightning definitely a possibility as well as an isolated tornado.”

The National Weather Service Melbourne, FL has also issued a warning about the potential for severe weather on Thursday, the 28th.

Once the front clears, the weekend weather is set to be quite nice, with highs in the 70s and lows overnight in the 50s and 60s. On Halloween morning, you could wake up to some cool weather, with the morning temperature set to be around 59 degrees in Orlando.

According to WFTV, Thursday isn’t the only day you’ll want to be prepared for. A cold front is also set to arrive later today (Tuesday), which will bring in some cooler temperatures.
