Will Kelly Clarkson Dethrone Adele on Billboard's Hot 100?

Kelly Clarkson‘s “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” rockets to No. 2 on this week’s Hot 100, narrowly missing out on the top spot thanks to the almighty Adele and her latest monster hit “Set Fire to the Rain.”

The power of Adele just stopped Lana Del Rey’s 'Born to Die' from topping the Billboard 200, and now Kelly is suffering the same fate, but unlike Lana, Kelly still has a fighting chance at nabbing that No. 1 spot.

The biggest wedge between Kelly and that No.1 right now is airplay. While “Stronger” was the top selling digital song this week with 225,000 copies, “Set Fire to the Rain” still managed to cling to the top off of strong airplay.

Kelly’s making rapid gains at radio, but so is Adele, and she’s already much further ahead, so Kelly’s going to need those big digital sales if she wants “Stronger” to become her third chart topping single.

In an Entertainment Weekly interview, Nick Cannon has stepped in to deny all reports that the Mariah Carey will be joining the X Factor crew.

“Like Nicole Scherzinger, my wife is not a fan of judging people. Nicole actually did say that she is used to performing, and the judging thing is not really natural for her.

"I really think that a lot of entertainers feel that way and I think these shows are really good shows, but when you get someone of status, or just big-time, career-wise, to do these shows, I personally think it’s a step down.”

“Why would would my wife want to be on a show like that? For somebody who has a legendary career, I don’t know why they would do that.”

Britney Spears Wants to Guest Star On 'Modern Family'

Britney Spears' television resume may contain at least one glaringly painful reality TV entry ("Britney & Kevin: Chaotic"), but she's also appeared on a couple of comedies, "Glee" and "How I Met Your Mother," playing herself in the first and a receptionist at a doctor's office in the second.

So what show does the recently engaged pop next want to appear on? The awards-darling comedy "Modern Family" of course.

It all started with a simple tweet from the princess of pop. "I know everybody is excited about the Super Bowl, but I personally can't wait to see the next episode of 'Modern Family!' Funniest show on TV," she wrote on Tuesday.

But the fire spread when "Modern Family's" Sofia Vergara retweeted Spears' tweet. Then, Spears' manager got fans riled up by writing "@BritneySpears on 'Modern Family?' What do you guys think?"

Thus, the tag #GetBritneyOnModernFamily was born. "I would love to be on it!" Spears wrote after the tag took off in the Twitterverse.

VH1 is on a quest to crown ‘the ultimate DIVA’ and (based on fan votes) tally up the 100 greatest women of music history.

The survey comes as their second, the first saw acts Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner take the number 1 and 2 spots respectively while acts like Madonna and Billie Holiday filled out the top 10.

As with most ‘best of’ collections however, much fan uproar encouraged the music channel to revamp their original listing. With 6 categories – “All Time”, “90s”, “80s”, “Pop”, “Rock”, and “Hip Hop/R&B” – VH1 is introducing a more comprehensive compilation of DIVAS to include, unlike their original survey, more contemporary performers.

With singer acts like Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and Beyonce facing off against legends Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Barbara Streisand, Madonna, and more, the results should be more than interesting.

Carrie Underwood Sets Release Date for New Album

Carrie Underwood fans, your wait is almost over. The country chart-topper has announced that she will release her much anticipated fourth studio album on Tuesday, May 1st.

The as yet untitled 19 Recordings / Arista Nashville release will be produced by Mark Bright, who also worked on Underwood's first three albums.

Last week, the title of the album's first single, "Good Girl," was revealed. The song, which was co-written by Underwood, will hit radio on February 23rd.

The next few weeks look to be very busy for the Grand Ole Opry member. Underwood will appear on "CMT Crossroads" with Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler (which will premiere on CMT Sat. Feb.4 at 11pm ET), as well as the 54th Grammy Awards on Feb. 12th.

The Dream, who was behind the infectious "Birthday Cake," track on Rihanna's 'Talk That Talk' LP, was recently asked by fans about when they could expect a full track.

Taking to Twitter, The Dream replied:

"Both our bdays and @rihanna's bday is in FEB, this is the month we releaseFULL VERSION OF #CAKE. MOVIE SCRIPT SHIT PEOPLE"

The initial promise was slowed due to the mega hit "We Found Love," which became Rihanna's longest running No.1 hit.

Now that her third single (the Jay-Z assisted title track) and a February release of "Birthday Cake," is in the works, expect to see a rise in sales for Rihanna's 'Talk That Talk.'

Katy Perry is the latest female pop star to be added to the lineup of performers at the Feb. 12th Grammy Awards show.

Following on the heels of yesterday's news that Adele will be singing at the 54th Grammy Awards, Perry was confirmed as a performer on Tuesday (Feb. 1). She joins previously-announced performers Jason Aldean, Kelly Clarkson, Glen Campbell, The Band Perry, Blake Shelton, Coldplay, Rihanna, Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, Paul McCartney, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift. LL Cool J is signed on to host.

Perry is nominated for two awards this year: Record Of The Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, both for "Firework."

The "Teenage Dream" star also performed at the Grammys last year, singing "Not Like the Movies" as footage of her wedding to Russell Brand played on a large screen behind her.

This year she will obviously be singing a different tune!

Lana Del Rey Aiming For No. 2 Debut on Billboard 200 Albums Chart

Lana Del Rey's just-released "Born To Die" album is on track to debut at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart next week.

The set will perhaps sell between 60,000 to 70,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, Feb. 5th, so say industry prognosticators.

That could mark the highest entry for a female artist's full-length major label debut since Jackie Evancho's "Dream With Me" bowed at No. 2 on July 2, 2011.

"Born to Die" will be Del Rey's second visit to the Billboard 200 in less than a month. Her self-titled four-song digital EP bowed at No. 20 three weeks ago, selling 14,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan. This week, it moves 51-162 with 3,000 (down 56%). It has shifted 24,000 to date.

Adele's "21" will likely block Del Rey from the top slot on the Billboard 200, as the former is looking to hold at No. 1 for a 19th nonconsecutive week. This past week, "21" reigned with another 116,000 sold (up 22%).

Amy Winehouse Coroner Resigns: Autopsy May Be Ruled Illegal

An inquest into the death of Amy Winehouse had ruled the singer's demise the result of "misadventure." Now NME reports that the person who performed Winehouse's autopsy was not qualified by law and that the investigation itself may be declared illegal.

Inner North London Corner Dr. Andrew Scott Reid appointed his wife, Suzanne Greenaway, to the role of Assistant Deputy Coroner. However, Greenaway resigned in November of last year after it was discovered that she did not match government requirements.

U.K. law states that the coroner's office may only appoint persons that have been a solicitor in the Law Society for five years, and have been a "qualified medical practitioner" for the same amount of time. Greenaway had only been a solicitor for two-and-a-half years and was only qualified as a nurse in her native Australia.

"In November it became apparent I'd made an error in the appointment process," Dr. Reid recently told The Sun. "While I am confident that all of the inquests handled were done so correctly, I apologize if this matter causes distress."

Along with Winehouse's inquest, roughly 30 other investigations may be deemed illegal, but only if the High Court decides that's the case.

Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" spends a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, just holding off a furious push from Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)," which bounds from No. 8 to No. 2.

As Adele's set "21" leads the Billboard 200 album chart for an 18th week, "Fire" tallies a second frame atop the Hot 100, fueled largely by its 5-4 advance on the Radio Songs chart (118 million audience impressions, up 12%, according to Nielsen BDS).

Clarkson's "Stronger" is aptly titled, as the second single from her album "Stronger" vaults 8-2 with top Digital Gainer honors. The song surges by 29% to 225,000 downloads sold and ascends 3-1 on Digital Songs, marking Clarkson's second leader on the sales ranking.

Her "My Life Would Suck Without You" spent two weeks at No. 1 on Digital Songs three years ago this month.

Katy Perry could be headed to the big-screen and in 3D!

Paramount has initiated talks with Perry's camp, as well as Imagine Entertainment, to create a documentary-style 3D film centered on the powerhouse singer-songwriter.

A source close to the dealing says Paramount wants to use the model it employed for its successful concert film featuring Justin Bieber, "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never." That film, holds the domestic box office record for a concert film with $73 million. (The worldwide record is held by Michael Jackson's "This Is it," which grossed $261.2 million in 2009.)

Perry could prove to be an ideal subject for a documentary-style concert film. Not only is she a top-selling act, her core audience consists of teen girls, the same demo that made the Bieber, Cyrus and Jonas Bros. films successful.

BET Bans Nicki Minaj's "Stupid Hoe" Music Video

According to TMZ, the music network has banned the Nicki Minaj's new music video for her song "Stupid Hoe" after deeming it too raunchy.

In the clip, directed by Hype Williams, Minaj, sporting her signature cartoonish outfits, repeats the title lyrics along with other explicit words, while writhing around in a cage, among other behavior befitting her manic-vixen persona.

Among the song's tamest rhymes: "I'm Angelina, you Jennifer/ C'mon b--h, you see where Brad at."

Meanwhile, an image of a bare behind -- a clear tribute to Minaj's famous derriere -- flashes repeatedly on the screen. (If the report of BET's refusal to air the video has any weight, that might have had something to do with the channel's decision.)
