Benefits of Aloe Vera

Here is something I didn't think to share with you all until today. I'm participating in the Home Spa Godess' Island Beauty Series. We have to share 7 products that we would want most if stranded on a deserted island. One of the products I mentioned was Aloe Vera Gel.

Now, why would I mention that? Many know that it's good for sunburn & other skin ailments. However, it is often used in some of our favorite everyday moisturizers as well & we probably never even think about that, yet Aloe Vera is an excellent moisturizer! If you'd like to read more about Aloe Vera's benefits for the skin, read this article. Have you ever thought of using just the gel, without all the other stuff?

I have. After suddenly remembering the healing properties of Aloe Vera, I figured I'd give it a shot. For years, I've had a problem with rough & dry patches on my face, not to mention my severely chapped hands. Since using Aloe Vera on my face & hands, the dry patches on my face have disappeared completely & they have not returned, plus my hands are much smoother. If you have dry skin & you've never used strait Aloe Vera gel as your regular moisturizer, I strongly urge you to try it!

Anastasia Brows

Brows. Everywhere you look & anything you read about eye makeup, they tell you that groomed brows complete your eye look. I must admit, I'm new to the world of brow products. I've honestly always thought that I didn't have enough brow hairs to work with. Boy, was I wrong! Granted, my brows are very sparse, but I actually have more to work with than I initially thought.

I've recently had the opportunity to try some of the Anastasia line of brow products. Shown below is just some of what I got.

Brow Pencil-dual ended, pencil on 1 end & brush on the other end (Fave!)
5 Piece Brow Kit-comes with dual ended angled brush & brow brush, 2 color powder compact, stencils (Fave!)
Brow Gel
Tinted Brow Gel
Eye Lights (Matte & Shimmer)

Now, I'm by no means experienced in the world of brow products, but I was very pleased with the results I got. My faves are the brow pencil & the brow powder w/accompanying brush. The following is an image of the results I was able to achieve.

I didn't use stencils because stencils tend to look fake. Maybe I should've, I don't know. I'm sure I could use pointers from a brow specialist, but considering I'm a newbie, I'm rather pleased!

Here's how I went about it:

Inspect brows closely & look for the area where the majority of the hairs are located.
Fill in w/pencil, using quick, short strokes in the direction of hair growth.
Brush brows w/the brush on the other end of the pencil.
Fill in with brow powder in the same manner, using angled brush.
Use brow brush on the other end of angled brush to brush brows, once again.
Finish by brushing on clear brow gel.

Bourjois Mini Mascara

I found this Bourjois Mini Mascara on ULTA.com. (Actually, it's an ULTA exclusive.) It's actually a cell phone charm, but seeing as I never use cell charms, I could see this more as a keyring mascara. The question is: Is it any good? That's what I'm wondering.

YSL's Touche Brillance

YSL has come out with Touche Brillance Sparkling Touch for Lips. I have never tried any of their products before, but these richly hued, sparkly glosses look sooo compelling! Has anyone tried these? I especially want to try Truly Red, Amethyst Sparkle, Pink Topaz, Pink Quartz, & Sparkling Nude. These look so pretty!

I just checked out Sugar's website in their makeup section & came across their "Punch Out" eyeshadow palette & their color sticks. These look fun! I'm especially liking the pretty turquoise colors in the palette. Has anyone tried these? Just curious.

e.l.f. has mineral eyeshadows! I think these may have been out for awhile & I just wasn't aware. I want to try the colors below, these look like some pretty neutrals. Have any of you, my readers, tried these? If you have, I'm awfully curious to find out what you think of these.

Schick Quattro for Women

I have received a complimentary Schick Quattro for Women razor to review on this blog. However, since I do not have enough hair to warrant shaving, I have turned this item over to my sister to review. The following are her thoughts on this product.

"First impression was I don't like the color! (my sister hates pink) The packaging is great, it was very easy to open. The handle of the razor is comfortable & provides a good grip, even when wet. The shower holder should have a bigger suction cup, but the idea is good.

The razor gives a smooth shave. I like the wire over the blades to minimize nicks. The conditioning strip lessened the irritation of my skin while shaving.

2 things I would change:

The color
Supply more cartridges w/this razor

Overall, I like this razor!"

I have had the opportunity to try a new product called SpinLash. It's a mascara w/a rotating brush that gently pulls the lashes to define, declump, & straighten. I was amazed at how well this worked for me in defining my lashes. Also, since it straightens out the lashes, the lashes are elongated as well. However, I do have 2 issues w/this product.

One, don't bother to curl your lashes because the gentle pulling action will straighten the curl right out. However, there is somewhat of a compensation. The pulling action does create some lash lift on its own, although it won't give you the same crimped curl as a lash curler will.
Secondly, & more importantly (to me, at least), when either the mascara, or the battery, is done for, you toss the whole thing out. To me, that's a waste. Why not replace the battery & the cartridge & keep the motorized brush? I don't understand that.

My 2 misgivings aside, my overall impression is good. I like what it did for my lashes. If they at least fix the 2^nd issue, I could definitely see myself buying one.

NYX Ultimate Pearl Shadow in Purple Pearl, Blue Pearl, White Pearl, Charcoal Pearl, & Black Pearl - I love these! The 1st 2, along w/turquoise, would make a great bright-n-funky eye look, the white works good for highlighting, & the last 2, along w/silver, would be great for a smokey eye.

NYX Ultra Pearl Mania in Turquoise & Silver - These are also very beautiful colors & work well with the colors mentioned above.

2 Concealer Brushes - I read that these are really good for multiple uses, which is why I got 2. I think this works well as a smudger. It can also be used as an eyeliner, but I like it as a smudger better.

3 lip pencils in Bitter, Mauve Luxe, & Natural Blush - I've only tried the first & last, so far. I like both, but I especially like bitter. It's a nice blue red and, combined with Moisture Care Lipcolor in Cherry Tart, you get a really good red lip. Most of you probably know that I've been looking for my perfect red lip. Well, I may have found it.

3 Moisture Care Lipcolors in Ruby Slipper, Cherry Tart, & Pink Lemonade - I like all of these! Although being somewhat sheer, these also have a good amount of color.

2 Shimmering Facial Whips in Lilac Petal & Camila - Very pretty shimmers for highlighting the face or for a shimmery cream eyeshadow.

e.l.f. Mineral Glow in Shimmer - This isn't so ridiculously shimmery that it makes you look shiny, but it has a subtle shimmer to give you more of a "glow" effect. That's really what we want, right?

e.l.f. Natural Lash Kit - I decided to be bold & daring. You're probably going to take in a collective gasp of horror at my next statement, but I have never worn false lashes before. I figured now was the time to start figuring it out. We'll see how that goes.

Remember a post I wrote not too long ago about a brand I just discovered-Pencil Me In Cosmetics? I was really excited to find a company that offered eye pencils in a wide range of colors at an affordable price. Most brands I've come across just offer the basics, such as black, navy, brown, & etc. But an eye pencil line in an array of colors at only $6.99 a pop? That's cool!

Well, the owner of the company, Linda Eisner, was sweet enough to send me a few pencils for review on this blog. What do I think of them? I LOVE them! They go on very smooth & the colors are sooo vibrant! In fact, in the photo below, I swatched them on my arm so you can get an idea of how vibrant these colors truly are! They are nicer in person than in the photo. Conclusion? If you want smooth eye pencils with plenty of color options w/o paying a pretty penny, PencilMeInCosmetics.com is the way to go!
