What Should I Look For in an Interlocking Foam Mat?

Interlocking foam mats are useful for many purposes. Depending on how you plan to use the mats, you can determine what features are important for you.

Since everybody wants a durable product that is worth the price, we figured out the most desirable traits. Regardless of the intended purpose, a high-quality mat should have:

Stability

If not for this characteristic, foam mats can be hazardous. It doesn’t matter if you are doing high-impact movements or not; the ground that you stand on should always be firm. Even if it serves as a kids’ playroom or even music studio space, slippery, unstable mats will cause injuries. That’s why interlocking mats are a safe option. Most of them have a textured surface that makes it easy to stay in place and provides a decent grip.

Adjustability

Unlike conventional mats that are static in their shape and size, interlocking mats are adaptable. Let’s say you bought a new piece of equipment or you re-arranged your furniture, one big plus of these mats is that they can adjust their shape and size. You can add or take out a few tiles, and you are good to go.

Cushioning

One of the main benefits of mats is that they absorb shock. With that, they go easy on your joints and also protect the underlying floor from heavy equipment. Models that use high-density foam proved to be adequate for both. Another factor that influences cushioning is the thickness. Thicker mats are a better buffer. Thicker mats, in general, are hefty and harder to transport. Unlike yoga mats for carpet, that is not a problem with interlocking mats, since they are easy to disassemble and carry individually.

Maintenance

As with any other product you invest money in, you want to keep them in pristine condition. The need for upkeep is all the more accentuated in floor mats. They are exposed to dirt, sweat, and spillage; during exercise, or kids’ playtime, they come incredibly close to your face and whole body. With that said, you need to clean them frequently. We can all agree that the easier it is to clean up the rug the better. The mats in our list are resistant to dirt and moisture, so they are incredibly easy to wash.

Foam mats are an excellent addition to your home because they can be used for multiple purposes. Home gyms are especially bettered and improved by this addition. With your best interest in mind, we researched the market. Within our analysis, we figured out some of the best qualities that an interlocking foam mat can have. All products on our list are high-grade and will satisfy the pickiest consumers. We leave it up to you to explore all options and pick what fits your needs and budget.

A carpet-cutting knife is a great tool for adjusting the size of the carpet. Carpets are sold in standard rolls, and there are always those extra inches that you have to cut to adjust to your perimeter.

There are so many carpet-cutting knife options available on the market that it may be hard to know which one to choose. Each of these knives has pros and cons, and you have to research them carefully before selecting a specific option. Some types of knives are good for their extra sharpness, while other carpet knives have a strong grip or ergonomic design. In this post, I have listed the 19 most popular carpet knives along with a detailed description of their pros and cons.

Let’s dive in!

How to Choose The Best Knife to Cut Carpet

When shopping for a carpet knife, three key things to consider are the blade change mechanism, body style, and hook handle.

The blade change mechanism is an important factor to consider because it will determine how easy it is to change the blade. Some carpet knives have a simple screw-on/screw-off design, while others may have a more complex lever or locking system.

The body style of the carpet knife is also an important consideration. Some carpet knives are designed for comfort and ease of use, while others are designed for more precision cutting.

Finally, the hook handle on some carpet knives can be helpful in keeping the knife from slipping while cutting. This is especially important when cutting carpet on stairs or in other tight spaces.

Without a doubt, this carpet knife is one of my favorites, which is why I have listed it as the first item on the list. It’s available on Amazon and has so many benefits. It has really high ratings left by more than 600 people. Let’s see what all of them liked about this carpet knife.

On the other side of the blade, this knife has a multifunction utility tool that you can use for opening bottles and cans, as a ruler, or even as a saw.

What’s more, the manufacturer provides a one-year warranty for this carpet knife.

The third carpet knife on the list is also good and sturdy. The handle carries a few extra blades. To extract them, you just have to unscrew the knife. The blade is also very sharp and you can easily cut your carpets with just a little pressure. It‘s available in silver color and has a practical handle that makes it easy to hang somewhere.

Like all similar knives, it has security measures in place to prevent accidental cutting. The easy-to-open knob is a great feature that makes it so safe.

How to Choose a Good Carpet Cutting Knife?

When it comes to carpet cutting, having the right knife is essential. There are many different types of carpet-cutting knives on the market, so choosing the right one can be daunting. However, there are many factors to consider that will help you choose the perfect carpet-cutting knife for your needs.

First, consider the type of carpet you will be cutting. Some carpet is more durable than others and will require a stronger, sharper knife. If you are unsure about the type of carpet you will be working with, choose a knife that is designed for tougher carpets.

Next, think about the size of the area you will be cutting. A larger knife may be necessary if you are working with a large carpeted area. Conversely, a smaller knife may be better suited for smaller carpeted areas.

Finally, consider the price. Carpet cutting knives range in price from around $20 to $200. If you are only going to be using the knife occasionally, you may not need to invest in a top-of-the-line model. However, if you plan on using the carpet cutter frequently, it may be worth investing in a higher-quality knife.

No matter what type of carpet-cutting knife you choose, be sure to read the instructions carefully before use. This will help you avoid any accidents and ensure that you use the knife properly. With the right knife, carpet cutting can be a quick and easy task.

How to Cut the Carpet with Carpet Cutting Knife?

Now that you know which carpet cutting knife is the best, let’s see how to use it correctly and how to cut the carpet seam before tucking it in.

First of all, get a nice sharp blade and install it inside the knife. Or, if you have an electric cuttIng tool, prepare it so that it has enough charge left. When using a carpet-cutting knife, be sure to use caution and follow all safety instructions. Always wear gloves and protective eyewear when working with sharp tools.

Now let’s get to cutting the carpet.

There are a few ways to do it, depending on what task you have to accomplish.

1) Cutting the Old Carpet for Removal

Place the sharp tip of the knife against the carpet, and scratch to make a hole. It should be around 5 inches.

Pull the carpet with the hand up and away from the floor.

Keep on cutting the carpet that s pulled away, combine cutting and slashing to remove larger carpet parts.

Peel the large section of the carpet up and roll them to store for the trash.

2) Cut the Carpet for the New Installation

If you’re just preparing to install the carpet, the next method may be useful for you.

The first and obvious step is to measure the room to see how the carpet will be located in it. This will tell you how much carpet you will need to cover the floor area.

Unroll the carpet roll, and cut it into 2-3 feet strips, they will be easier to manage and install. Measure how you will lay these strips in the room, and make the marking on the carpet backside where you’ll have the cut line.

When cutting the new carpet, make cuts on the backside, this way it will be easier to reach straight and precise cuts. Carpet backing is more strong and flat, that’s why you won’t mess up. Make an outline of the cut you have to make before going on with a knife. You can also use a straight edge to make smooth cuts.

If you need to make cuts around the corners and some objects, cut the carpet which is already laid on the floor from side to side, from the front side.

Before cutting the carpet, it must be laid on the room floor so that it spreads out. Also, this will allow determining to specifically determine which side and how much cutting is needed.

If you have to trim the carpet around intricate shapes, make incremental and short cuts. You may also try to make a cardboard template of the shape that you have to cut, this will help you see how much carpet you have to remove in the process.

Conclusion

Carpet professionals know perfectly well that the quality of the carpet-cutting tool is extremely important, otherwise performing these works will be complicated. For this purpose, a large number of various carpet knives are presented on the market. They fully cope not only with cutting the carpets, but also other floor coverings, such as linoleum, and are suitable for many other tasks. An average price of a good carpet-cutting knife is around $15, although more expensive items can be found.

I hope the selection of knives presented in this post will help you make a good choice, and simplify the carpet installation process. Your room will be nice and ready!

#1 Virgin (2016) by Faig Ahmed

This one is my favorite!

This handmade woolen rug can be spotted in the Chrysler Museum of Art as part of the Modern and Contemporary collection. The rug has a traditional floral design in the traditional Azerbaijani style and has a geometric border in the upper part.

Creator of the rug, Faig Ahmed is a genius artist from Baku, Azerbaijan. He is well-known for his conceptual creations that incorporate traditional ornamental arts with the symbolic imagery of Azerbaijani carpets.

Virgin rug looks unfinished at the bottom, leaving the rest to our imagination. It’s impressive how Ahmed’s rugs are produced. First, he develops the patterns and the designs with computer graphics, and then local artisans create them in textile in a traditional centuries-old technique. Dyes sheep’s wool is used in the process. The name of the rug refers to the sheep’s wool and a dowry rug, so it is a part of a cultural metaphor.

#2 3D Vortex Optical Illusion Rug

Warning – this one can make you dizzy! Made in black and white, this cool rug creates a feeling like you’re standing on the edge of a deep hole. It’s very affordable and available on Amazon, so you can get one for your home and have lots of fun!

Conveniently, it has a non-slip backing which helps the rug to stay in place when you’re walking over. Plus, it’s very easy to clean.

This rainbow-colored rug will brighten any day. Radiating warmth and comfort, this wool and cotton rug is made in India. It is hand-dyed and hand-tufted. Materials are extra quality – New Zealand wool is hand-tufted onto the cotton woven backing. It looks perfect in spacious interiors, and the recommended size is 9’x12’, so the colors and the pattern are fully open in the room.

Have you ever met a rug you want to spend your holidays on? Well, this one by Alexandra Kehayoglou takes us to the charming landscape of the Argentinian Santa Cruz river. The rug is hand-tufted and made of wool. As beautiful as it is, no wonder that museums started showing their interest. It’s now available for viewing in the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne. You can see the rug, touch it and even lay down for a nap on the picturesque river banks. I say, the trip is worth it!

#5 After Matisse Rug by Sonya Winner

Henri Matisse’s famous paper cutouts are the inspiration for the After Matisse colorful area rug. This sculptural area rug is the work of artisan weavers who hand-weaved it. GoodWeave artisan weavers hand-tuft the After Matisse rug using the New Zealand wool. This washable, hard-wearing rug may also be used as a wall hanging.

Sonya made the After Matisse rug out of a collage of interlocking squares of color. The 25 tones of natural wool resemble the look of transparent colors blending together.

#6 Woody Wood rug by Yvette Laduk

The rug created by the Dutch artist will enrich any interior. It’s a soft reminder of how charming nature is. I believe it would look most appealing in the cabin, but to be honest, it will fit any space, even a modern one. The company YLdesign, which has its headquarters in the Netherlands, designed and manufactured this rug. Woody Wood looks like a huge slice of the transverse section of a tree trunk and is made of sustainable materials.

#7 3D Forest Floor by TwopinsStore

If nature is your thing, you will definitely like this one. A 3D hand-tufted rug is the most gorgeous thing you can buy for the floors. It is cool, crazy and so soft to touch! No wonder that animals love it too. Materials used include bamboo, silk, and wool. The rug is unusual but pretty universal – you can place it in the living room, bedroom, nursery – anywhere you need to have a piece of nature.

#8 Blanket Statement by Lise Lefebvre

Created by Lisa Lefebvre, the Blanket Statement is a recycled rug project that’s both ecologically responsible and environmentally conscientious because it avoids the use of real bears. I think it makes the rug even cooler!

The designer’s goal is to give a modern touch to classic rug patterns by repurposing worn-out carpets, comforters, mats, and sheets that are both physically and stylistically outmoded. The bear has been given a new lease of life, woven together into something new and exciting.

#9 Tom and Jerry Rug

The Tom and Jerry rug is based on the classic Tom and Jerry cartoon. It’s so cool that even adults will love it! It is available online in two sizes and is hand-tufted. When used as a stairwell rug or as a floor rug, this rug will have everyone giggling. It is available in two sizes. What I don’t understand is how they came up with the idea to create a rug out of this picture, but it is absolutely wonderful!

It’s a flat rug that, when put on an incline, allows you to recreate Tom being flattened on a stairwell as shown in one of the episodes in which he was, well, flattened on a stairwell.

Not all rugs can “graciously” stay put on a stairwell, therefore we have to give credit to the designer for accomplishing this brilliance.

#10 Orb by Milla Novo and Moooi carpets

An ‘Orb’ line of rugs is designed by Milla Novo and Moooi carpets. Incorporating Milla Novos’ trademark knotting method and metallic ropes, they are inspired by the shapes seen in the indigenous Mapuche heritage of South America and incorporate them into their designs. The sphere has an otherworldly, mystical quality to it, and it is brimming with wonderful energy.

These artistic rugs look so magical, you can almost hear them speaking. This beauty is something I’d definitely love to have at home!

#11 Clouds by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec

A new typology designed by the brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec represents an advance in the field of interior design. This is not a 100% rug but can be used as one if you place it on the walls or on the floor for decoration purposes. These rugs are constructor-like, you can change their shape and combine different colors. They can also serve as a room-dividing system. Clouds are made out of cloth pieces that are tied together with elastic bands to form free-standing or hanging constructions that also have soundproofing qualities.

#12 Legs by Seletti

A modern Rug “Legs” by Italian brand Seletti is a bright and eccentric rug that makes a statement. Most suitable for the modern interiors, the rug has a very vivid color palette, with dominating blue and red colors, which represent male and female forces that attract. To me, it looks like a Yin and Yang in a modern interpretation.

There are many more rugs in the Seletti collection that provide attraction to the eye. The company concentrates on design projects as well as on the creative brilliance that is characteristic of Italy.

The collections, which combine works of art with everyday objects, offer a message of form and function, imparting to its lucky owners a vision of a creative, intimate, and enjoyable way of living.

Oriental rugs are exquisite pieces of the interior that will make your home look classy. The history of oriental rugs goes back to ages, they have been around for thousands of years. This old craft preserved by the crafty artisans deserves our affection. That’s why in this post I’ve decided to round up all the facts and history of oriental rugs and tell you more about these wonderful pieces.

The history of Oriental carpets can be traced back thousands of years. Since then, these carpets have undergone several changes. However today, even despite all the adjustments in design and weaving techniques, most carpets still maintain their shape unchanged. They said: “The more things change, the more likely they are to stay the same.” Here you will find an overview of the history of Oriental carpets.

History of Oriental Rugs

When it all started isn’t known for sure, there was a lot of controversy about the exact date of the first carpet. Unfortunately, even after careful examination of this aspect, historians cannot pinpoint the exact chronological order of the origin of oriental carpet manufacturing. It can be thought that this is because the fibers used to make these first carpets have been decomposed for a long time. However, when several old carpets were found, some later excavations proved to be fruitful. These provide some insight into how and where these rugs were first made.

The Pazyryk Rug & Early History

The most important of these early discoveries is the 9.3 x 6.5 feet Pazyryk rug with a picture of horse riding on it. It is believed to be one of the oldest oriental rugs in existence. It was discovered during excavations in the Altai Cemetery. The history of oriental carpets can be traced back to the glacier region of the Siberian wasteland when a group of Russian archaeologists discovered a unique treasure in 1949.

It was located in the frozen tomb of the leader of the Scythian, who died about 300 years BC. An invaluable example of rug art was buried: a beautifully preserved handmade woolen carpet. The so-called Pazyryk rug symbolizes a craft that has become an art form and tradition, the actual age of which is still unknown. The earliest weaving craftsmen used warp yarns and passed this tradition down from generation to generation. Modern weaving methods also include warp yarns, weft yarns, and piles. The knots back then were the same as today’s knots, with around 240 knots tied per square inch.

This is an inspirational design with bright colors that have been maintained up to these days. The reason the rug was found to be intact was that, like other oriental rugs manufactured at the time, the ice layer formed around the rug and prevented the fibers from collapsing.
<ins></ins>

Nomadic Tribes

The Pazyryk Valley was once home to many nomadic tribes, and many studies have been conducted to determine exactly which tribe created the ancient rug. However, because the valley is located on the main trade route, it is impossible to attribute the creation to a specific tribe. It may have been created by any tribe living in the area. Some people believe that the carpet may be of Persian origin, while others insist that it is of Armenian origin.

Estimated Origins of Oriental Rug Making

The radiocarbon test used to determine the life of the carpet was more successful, indicating that the carpet was around 400 BC. Although the carpet was made centuries ago, it was made using complex weaving techniques, which shows that the art of carpet manufacturing at that time has been highly developed. In the 8th century AD, Azerbaijan, a major producer of Persian carpets, was recognized as one of the main places of carpet production and trade. They had status and wealth.

The emperors, chiefs, and kings of the Asian continent asked for more ornate carpets to decorate their palaces and places of worship. The kings of Europe soon admired these exquisite oriental woven carpets and ordered them to decorate the palaces as well. Persian carpets were usually given to the royal family as wedding gifts or to commemorate important events (such as coronations). Even today, these beautiful Persian carpets can be regarded as tapestries and floor coverings in many castles and palaces across Europe.

The Greek historian Herodotus (who lived around 500 BC) and the poet Homer vividly reflected the beauty and magnificence of Persian wool carpets. Legend has it that Cleopatra curled up on the Persian carpet and unexpectedly appeared in front of Emperor Caesar. There is ample evidence that the woolen blanket was regarded as a fine example of the Far East long before the birth of Christ. Carpet weaving later became an indispensable part of Eastern religion. To this day, this has been centuries. This ancient art is taught from masters to students, and then from father to son. The tools and main processes have not changed. As the beginning of written history, authentic Oriental carpets today are still hand-woven. Through the development of the best natural dyes between the 16th and 17th centuries was a great step forward.

Types of the Oriental Rugs by Region

Oriental rugs are hand-woven rugs created in the Middle East and Asia. Different varieties are usually named after the village, city, or region where they are weaving or the tribe used by the nomadic weavers. Persian carpets are a popular kind of oriental carpets produced in Iran (once called Persia). They are famous for their thick piles and rich colors. Turkish rugs, also known as Anatolian rugs or Usak rugs, are another well-known type. All hand-knotted carpets are made in a labor-intensive process, requiring skilled weavers to produce them for a year or more. Below, you will find all the top known types of oriental carpets, so different and so beautiful.

Turkish (Anatolian) Rugs

Turkey has a long and rich history of oriental rug manufacturing and is home to some of the best knotted and handmade carpets in the world. There are many types of Turkish carpets, from the simple and colorful Anatolian nomads Kilim to the faded Usak and Hereke silk carpets of the elite courts of the Ottoman Empire. This is where the Turkish knot (symmetric knot) (also known as Ghiordes knot) was developed.

The name “Anatolian carpet” usually means carpets in Asia Minor and areas around. This region hosts a few of the world’s oldest carpets. The combination of bright colors and abstract patterns along the tribal traditional elements makes these rugs popular all over the world. Weaving carpets is a tradition that dates back to ancient times. Let us take a closer look at this group of charming and beautiful carpets.

Where is the Anatolia Region Located?

Anatolia is a region of West Asia, or the Anatolian Plateau of the Anatolian Peninsula. This is the most westerly place on the Asian continent. It is now considered a territory in Turkey and is often also referred to as “Asian Turkey”. Asia and Europe meet here. In terms of landscape and climate, this is a diverse area. It is washed around by the beautiful Black Sea, the Aegean Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea. It extends from a central high plateau to the coastal plain to the mountains. Here is the extreme climate of hot summer and very cold winter.

In these countries, ancient civilizations have created a society with a rich and diverse material heritage. Since prehistoric times, Anatolia has been a center of civilization. This is a place that was often migrated, traveled, and conquered. Some of the greatest proof of human survival can be seen in caves in Anatolia. This is an area rich in natural sources, with an excellent geographical location, leading to Europe and Europe. And Asia.

This denotes the most advantageous way between East and West. The area called Anatolia was the home of the ancient Assyrian Empire, Ionian Greeks, Hittites, Phrygian Empires, and Mycenaean Greeks. It is the place where the Christians, Romans, Byzantines, and Jews existed in ancient myths and legends. Anatolia is a land full of wars and disputes. All of these civilizations left their mark on later contemporary Turkish culture.

The Influence of Tribal Culture on the Anatolian Rugs

The weather in Turkey (Anatolia) is significantly harsher than people expected. Many areas have perpendicular slopes and cannot support agriculture, leading to the expansion of nomads, some of whom stay to live in the traditional way of life of their ancestors. Nomadic tribes lived in eastern Anatolia and relocated between fields and mountains. It is concluded that more than 50,000 people still live in tiny villages in the tribe.

This is the beginning of the history of Anatolian carpets. Different ancestry and different cultures. Their separation from the rest of the society enables each of the tribes to grow their own individual arts and sciences. Despite a large number of attacks, such as the Ottoman Empire and Islamic religion, several of these tribes are still isolated. This cultural privacy indicates that many of the carpet designs we see on ancient carpets may look alike to the produced by old cultures. People living in the area. As a combination, it is usually tough to differentiate the products of one clan from another tribe, but in terms of colors, textures, weaving techniques, and designs, all can easily be regarded as a local group.

This area is full of ancient culture. Tradition, political alliance, religion, and language. The influence of various cultures living in the area can often be seen in the design. Sometimes you will see references to Islamic, Byzantine, Persian, or Mongolian paintings in the designs. With few exceptions, many Anatolian rugs practice symmetrical knots or mesh knots. Most of them are made from the wool of local sheep.

Sometimes, due to local plant dyes, you will see unusual colors on the carpet. In rare cases, exotic fibers may be found, such as goats, bears, camels, or bulls. The patterns, tones, materials, and methods used to make these treasures are as different as people themselves, like a time spacecraft, providing us an understanding of human history. This is one of the causes why we adore them so much now. They have original features and characteristics, and it can be understood that they are man-made, each representing the culmination of tradition for centuries of years (if not thousands of ages).

Anatolian carpets are one of the most unique and attractive carpets in the world. I encourage you to examine some Turkish carpet collections to see if you can find a rug that perfectly suits your bohemian style.

Persian (Iranian) Rugs

Entering the world of ancient Persian carpets is a unique journey. Explore this world and discover hidden stories and ancient traditions. These stories and ancient traditions have been passed down for thousands of years and passed down through different cultures. In the ancient world of Persian carpets, daily life becomes mysterious: flowers and geometric shapes are full of deep symbolism, while colors and shapes have profound meaning. The term “antique Persian carpet” refers to carpets made in modern Iran, so the term “antique Iranian carpet” is almost interchangeable. Symbolic figures and patterns can protect the wearer of Persian carpets from evil and misfortune.

When it comes to Persian tribal rugs such as geometric animals, people, and everyday objects, antique hand-made Persian oriental rugs are examples of classic art that imitate life. Imitating art, the rich design works of Persian carpet weavers continue to inspire artists and designers from all over the world. In each city or cultural group, in the design and tradition developed and cultivated by weavers, if the regional design is combined with the smallest changes in methods and materials, there can be unlimited changes. From semi-nomadic tribes to the empire weaving traditions established by Safavid and the rich Mughal/Mughals, they have had a huge impact on carpet design and style.

The international trade of traditional and Persian carpets that began thousands of years ago has led to a fascinating design exchange between East and West. Antique carpets are unique works of art and luxurious masterpieces, which can bring you the comfort of home, and each Persian carpet also has its own story. Each Persian rug completes the intricate history of all woven carpets before and after.

Persian Carpet Types

The types of Persian carpets are usually divided into three categories: urban carpets, country carpets, and tribal carpets. They are all named after the city or village that created them or the tribe that created them. City-inspired carpets are of the highest quality. These city carpet weavers in Iran are known as master weavers, and some of them even regard their works as works of art. In short, most urban weavers are men. This is their continued occupation passed from generation to generation and the main source of income.

Persian Village Rugs

There are many more village rug types, and below I’ve listed the most well-known of them.

Keshan rugs. Keshan rugs are from the large city of Kashan located between Tehran and Isfahan. I have put Kazan under the village-type carpets due to the qualities associated with the city rugs. Keshan rugs have been famous for fabrics. This city is an important trade and entertainment center located along the Great Silk Road. When you think of traditional Persian carpets, you often think of a red Keshan rug. Floral patterns are made in red and dark blue tones. Other popular Keshan colors are cream and pistachio. They are decorated with a central padlock and a complete design (non-padlock).

Hamadan rugs. Hamadan is actually a city in western Iran, about 300 kilometers from Tehran. As for the carpets, this is in the village part, because these villages are woven nearby villages, and the center of Hamadan area consists of more than 134 villages, each with its own carpet design, such as Nahawand, Tussekan, Mahler, Hussein Abad. For obvious reasons, these Persian carpets are also often called Hamadan, just for the simplicity of things. The design includes repeating patterns that are very easy to spot. They are mostly geometric figures, but sometimes with patterns. Usually made in red, dark blue, and cream palettes.

Abadeh rugs. They originate from the area between Shiraz and Isfahan. Abadeh rugs were originally known for their pastel vase patterns and color palettes, but now they have become more difficult to sell, and are therefore inspired by the Qashqai tribe (see below) and their geometric designs. Looking through the middle of the carpet, you’ll see birds, flowers, and trees around.

Bidjar rugs. They originate from a Western Iranian small city. For many carpet connoisseurs, the name Bijar means strength and durability. They are strong but compact and very durable. The weaver beats the weft with a heavy comb made of wood and metal. And the rug is knotted so that the pile is super tight. They are known as the kings of carpets for their unique style and excellent durability. The most famous designs of such rugs include a fish.

Heriz rugs. They come from Northwest Iran, from an area not too far from the town of Tabriz. The design of Heriz rugs is very recognizable. Maybe even more well-recognized compared to other Persian rugs. The center of the rug usually features a large right-angled medallion, plus the corners are usually marked. Such rugs have a very geometric design. Moreover, Heriz rugs usually come in large sizes. The larger the better, right?

Kerman rugs. They originate from the southeast of Iran. Indeed, Kerman is more a city than a village, it has a population of around 350,000. I have also placed them in with the village-type oriental rugs, as the quality of craftsmanship isn’t quite as perfect as for the city rugs that you’ll see below. They still look fantastic though. You’ve probably seen the Kerman rugs with a central medallion design and the border. They are made of wool, which is of really high quality in this part of Iran.

Ardebil rugs. Location: Northern Iran, near the Caspian Sea. Design: You may have heard of the famous Ardabil carpet that can be found in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, but it is believed that this carpet was not made in Ardabil. The carpet is controversial, but it is believed to be made in or near Kashan. It is called Ardabil because it was placed in a mosque in Ardabil and sold there. Like many other Persian carpets, they have geometric patterns.

Mashad rugs. That’s a city located in the east of Iran, again like the cities of Kashan and Kerman, but with the quality of the carpets is more the village carpet type. Mashad is the holiest city in Iran. Design features mainly traditional red and dark blue. Usually comes with a central medallion.

Senneh rugs. The location of such rugs is Kurdistan Province, in western Iran. The capital today is called Sanandaj, but before it was called Senne. They have exquisite designs and elegant patterns. The colors are usually dark blue and red. They weave pile carpets and senneh kilims (plain cloth). The design is truly recognizable and unique.

Moud rugs. Location: South of Mashhad and South of Berjan. The design uses the Herati pattern, which is a diamond-shaped flower surrounded by four acanthus leaves. -The above design (not including the medallion).

Persian City Rugs

Isfahan rugs. They come from the city of Isfahan which is located in the middle of Iran (actually it has a desert on the right side and Zagros mountains on the left). It is one of the most visited places in Iran, with beautiful art, architecture, palaces, and ancient bridges. The pattern of these oriental rugs is usually inspired by the tiles of a mosque or palace garden. Most of them have floral designs. They are heavily knotted and are considered to be one of the most beautiful and well-known carpets in the country.

Nain rugs. Originating from the beautiful city of Nain. This is the oldest mosque in Iran (dating back to the 10th century). Nain rugs are mainly made of floral patterns. They have a beautiful ivory color palette in navy blue, light blue, and pink colors. Sometimes you will see green and red, but they are rare. The Nain carpet has many different designs. In terms of quality, Nain carpets have three types of knots: 4La, 6La, and 9La. In Persian, “La” translates to “shift”. This number helps determine the quality of the Nain carpet: it refers to the number of layers of yarn used in each warp when weaving the carpet. The smaller the number, the thinner and denser the knots on the carpet. For several years, it has been the most popular high-quality Persian rug in the US.

Tabriz rugs. About 400 miles west of Tehran, is located in one of the largest cities in Iran. Tabriz rug designs are usually decorated with circular floral ornaments in the center. The pattern is arabesque and other patterns inspired by flowers and gardens (cypress and weeping willow). Unlike most other cities, Tabriz has a variety of designs, from medals to figurative, figurative, and so on. The most famous Tabriz design is called Tabriz Mahi.

Qom rugs. Qom City is located about 150 kilometers south of Tehran. These are Persian rugs that have a very complex and realistic design, and it looks like a high-definition screen. These patterns come from different regions of Iran, but usually include gardens, medals, animal, and plant patterns.

Persian Tribal Rugs

Afshar rugs. Location: Southeastern Iran (near Kerman City) where the Afshar tribe lives. Design: mainly red and blue geometric patterns. The most famous design is the square medallion in the middle.

Bakhtiyar rugs. Location: To the west of Isafkhan, west of the Zagros Mountains (Isafkhan). Bakhtiyar tribes live here. Design: The old patterns of Bakhtiar usually come from the courtyard Hesti. However, many of them only contain animals and plants, which are symbols of Persian gardens and are considered to be one of the most durable carpets in Persian carpets because the wool from this particular area is very beautiful.

Baluch rugs. Location: The Baluch tribe lives in the area bordering Iran and Afghanistan. The Uchluzhi is a collective term for smaller tribes composed of different nomads from all over Iran. In addition to woven carpets, the tribe also grows sheep. Due to the location, similar geometric patterns and richness can be drawn between the original Afghan and Turkmen carpets, dark colors (burgundy red, dark blue, black). The design of the carpet really reflects the weaving style of the Persian nomads and creates a sense of authenticity and craftsmanship.

Gabbeh rugs. Also spelled Gaba. Location: A tribe in southwestern Iran. Mostly carpet weavers. Design: Traditionally, gabbeh rugs are made for sleeping. The thick pile is very comfortable. These are the simplest and simplest of all Persian carpets with little or no design. However, they have small animals or trees pictured in the corner/middle. Gabbeh rugs are thicker than any other type of Persian rugs. The pile is about 7 mm (2-4 mm for most carpets). The word gabbeh has Persian meanings such as rough, natural, and uncut.

Qashqai rugs. Location: Qashqai nomads from the Fars province of southwestern Iran. They move once or twice a year, near the Persian Gulf in winter, and in the Zagros Mountains (cooler climate) in summer. Usually Qashqai carpets are of darker colors, with red, brown, and burgundy as the main colors. This pattern is entirely woven from things that inspire nomads to travel (such as wildlife and natural landscapes). There are many four-legged animals, birds, and trees on the Qashqai carpet. They are usually made of 100% wool, so they are easy to roll and transport with nomads. Although they sometimes contain cotton.

Caucasian Rugs

Caucasus carpets come from the southern, eastern, and northern regions of the Caucasus. Carpets produced before 1925 can be divided into five categories: Kazakh, Karabakh, Silvan, Cuban and Dagestani carpets. Karabakh carpets usually have more subtle patterns, similar to Persian carpets. In addition to these groups, there are carpets by Gjandzja, Silé, and Verni.

The importance of these beautiful carpets lies in their geometric patterns, which are usually expressed in a symbolic form. Animal images and attractive patterns sometimes appear on the carpet. Old Caucasus carpets are made of hand-spun woolen threads, warp threads, weft threads, and piles. Natural color, light, and durable.

High-quality wool and Turkish knots make these oriental rugs durable and with a good reputation. Newer carpets produced after 1925 have cotton cloth on the back, the synthetic color has faded, and a less simplified pattern is used. The carpet is very durable, but not very interesting from an artistic point of view.

Azerbaijani hand-made carpets, like other Caucasian carpets, are many months, and sometimes many years of work of masters. They make each carpet from natural wool, and the threads are dyed only with natural dyes. This allows you not only to transform the premises but also to touch the nature of the Caucasus.

You will not find a single repeating pattern or ornament on handmade Caucasian carpets. Each carpet is a unique work of art, in which the entire culture of the Caucasian countries is concentrated. Geometric shapes and, of course, motives of nature and flora prevail in the design of Azerbaijani carpets. The composition depicted on the carpet from Azerbaijan is always complete and has a central medallion pattern and a border.

The primary colors used and used by the Caucasian master weavers are blue and red, sometimes green and yellow. Colors shimmer, patterns intertwine, your home is transformed with the help of a handmade Caucasian carpet.

There is a lot of evidence that the Caucasian oriental rugs appeared much earlier than the Asian ones. Carpet-making in the North Caucasus has always been one of the most widespread occupations. First, the peoples of the Caucasus from the most ancient times had at their disposal the material for their weaving – sheep’s wool. Secondly, dwellings needed reliable protection from sudden changes in temperature and a capricious mountain climate, and thirdly, due to special forms of farming, the female and partly male population was not employed in the fields for a long time, and therefore it was necessary to occupy some free time. Hence, arts and crafts, and in particular, carpet weaving in the Caucasus has reached the heights of its skill.

Egyptian Mamluk Rugs

Mamluk carpets are the original Mamluk carpets in Egypt, produced by the same group of weavers. Mamluk carpets are characterized by a central and main octagonal medallion, surrounded by many smaller geometric patterns. Their name comes from the Mamluk dynasty that ruled Egypt from 1250 to 1517. Carpets of this design are mainly produced in Cairo for the luxury trade in southern Europe.

The shrew drawings are protected by copyright. Each carpet has the Megeric surname in Armenian. This proves the authenticity of the shrew. Number the exact machine weaving. Buyers of Mexican parts may receive a “certificate of authenticity” signed by a member of the Mexican family. The Megalia family supports the high-quality standards we set for carpets. There are other Egyptian rugs, but none of them match the quality, including materials, craftsmanship, inventory availability.

History of Mamluk Rugs

Although the Cairo production center has long been the weaving source of Mamluk rugs, the debate about the origin of the style of these rugs continues. Scientists claim that Mamluk carpets not only represent external influences, but also foreign technology. Introduced to Egypt by workers from Iran or Central Asia.

During the Mamluk period, the possibility of foreign artisans in Cairo was based on the difficult political situation between Iran and Mamluks in Anatolia, the Ottoman Empire and the Turkmen states, which led to their political borders constantly changing, and thus As a result, their liquidity is constantly changing. People lead. In 1467, the Karakoyunlu dynasty no longer existed in the hands of the Turkmen Akkoyunlu. As a result of this event, some craftsmen decided to stay in the capital Tabriz and continue to weave.

A few years later, a Venetian traveler proved that he compared the carpets in Tabriz with those in Cairo. Other craftsmen have to find work elsewhere. The craftsmen could have moved to the capital of the Ottoman Empire and Mamluks, because the Mamluks provided refuge to nobles from Iran, such as the Sultan Ahmed and the Karakoyunlu dynasty in the former residence of Jarrid. Kara Yusuf.

According to reports, the Sultan Qaytbai court played an important role in sponsoring the Mamluk Art event, according to which he supported the skills of the newly arrived weaver. Since all the surviving Mamluk carpets are from the late 15th century, it is not certain whether Sultan Kateby uses the experience of foreign weavers to revive a previously established carpet weaving tradition or introduce a new carpet weaving tradition. After the Ottoman Empire conquered the Mamluk Sultanate of Egypt in 1517, the geometric patterns of the Mamluk carpets were finally abandoned and curved floral patterns were adopted to make the Ottoman design more popular.

Turkmen Rugs

Turkmen carpets, also known as “Turkmen Hari” in their native language, are mainly handmade floors, traditionally from Central Asia. It is useful to distinguish the original carpets of Turkmenistan from the large quantities of carpets manufactured today, which are mainly exported to Pakistan and Iran. These carpets were originally made by the Turkmen tribe, the main ethnic group in Turkmenistan. It can be used for various purposes, such as decorating doors or decorating surfaces. With its quality and unique design.

Turkmenistan is a country for which the production of carpets is a symbol of a national treasure. Turkmen carpets are known all over the world for their quality, and everyone can recognize the traditional ornament. Indeed, even on the flag of Turkmenistan, five carpet ornaments are depicted, denoting five regions of the country, in each of which unique Turkmen carpets are made. And the last Sunday in May is the national holiday of the Turkmen carpet.

These oriental rugs come in different shapes and sizes, and can also be made according to your preferences. The original carpets of Turkmenistan are handmade in various famous places in Central Asia. Known for its unique design. These carpets from Turkmenistan are a wonderful way to show the beauty of the interior and use a unique design and color combination. There are a variety of Turkmen carpets from Persian to Turkmen, which is a great way to enhance the overall beauty of the room. Some antique carpets originally came from Persia and Turkmenistan. These carpets not only add elegance but are also a valuable asset.

How to distinguish a handmade Turkmen carpet from other oriental rugs? It’s not hard. The main color of carpets from Turkmenistan is red, and the main ornament is göli, which is a small medallion element. The main gels in Turkmen carpets are ahalteke, ersary, yomut, chovdur, salyr.

Turkmen carpets and rugs are woven only from special wool called Saraja wool. To obtain such material, only Turkmen sheep are sheared and it is obligatory in the spring to make the wool softer.

Indian and Pakistani rugs

Indian Rugs

The story of Indian rugs begins in the 16th century when Mughal Akbar ruled India. As an enlightened ruler, he likes to surround himself with beautiful artworks and objects. Some people say that he inherited these interests from his grandfather Babur, who lived in luxurious Persia for a long time. To add some charm to the palace, Akbar brought Persia’s best carpet weavers to the capital, Agra.

Thanks to their experience, Indian carpets, and Akbar the Great, Persian craftsmen were able to restart India’s weaving industry from scratch. They helped organize workshops for local residents and weaving factories in Agra, Delhi, and Lahore. This is just the beginning. Between 1520 and 1530, Akbar carried out a careful reform of the system through online training of prisoners in Agra Prison. This is not only a practical method but also very user-friendly. Ordinary criminals turned prisoners into craftsmen. Allegedly, some of them even surpassed the owner!

Indian carpets made by prisoners are called Indian prison carpets or Indian prison carpets. This allowed the culture and industry of the Mughal Empire to develop. High-quality carpets made of silk, lamb wool and even cashmere cover the real floor. In addition, they have gradually gained a reputation worldwide. This includes wealth such as gold thread or precious stones. Although “mughals” (ancient Indian carpets made during Akbar’s reign) imitated the Persian style, they managed to carry some Indian essence. For example, exotic animals and decorative flowers.

Motifs

Every ancient Indian carpet enjoys a deep color due to the use of pigments made from vegetables, plants and minerals. The development of Indian carpets The art of weaving oriental carpets developed into the next century. After Akbar, his son Jahangir became the throne.

The Indian carpets made during this time reflect his taste and his great fascination with exotic nature and the world of plants. The design of the carpet is entirely dominated by ornamental flowers, herbal patterns, and earthy color palettes. The pattern becomes more soft and feminine. So complicated that they look almost real Indian needs for details, coupled with high-quality original patterns, has won worldwide recognition. The era of golden weaving has not changed until the founding of Shan Jahan, the founder of the Taj Mahal. As a well-known architectural sponsor, the design of antique carpets has of course been expanded to depict landscapes and painting themes. However, they still retain a lovely floral design.

At the same time, mysterious animals also appeared, which brought a special and fabulous atmosphere to Indian carpets. Indian design has a real magical color with all dragons, mythical animals, and alien fauna. Today’s Indian carpets. During the reign of Akbar and his successors, Indian carpets represented world-class craftsmanship. Imagine if one of them is complex, there are 4224 knots per square inch! The entire production process is very difficult. It takes years or longer to complete a complex structure.

Unfortunately, in the 19th century, the quality of Indian weaving wonders declined drastically. Srinagar, Amritsar, and Agra are only a few areas where the designs are still good. The Mughal trend has become so ubiquitous that it can be seen in Western markets. Due to mass production and synthetic materials, designs imitating Indian carpets have attracted the attention of European stores.

It was not until the restoration of India’s independence in 1947 that Indian carpet production began to gradually resume. Although most of the weavers have moved to Pakistan, India is able to train a large number of new craftsmen. As part of this plan, a large number of women were trained, which opened up a new market. Oriental carpets from India are still the best and most valuable, but the most fascinating is their magic, imaginative and profound artistic features.

Pakistani Rugs

Not many people realize that if no one had heard of antique carpets in Pakistan, it might be because Pakistan only appeared after World War II. Before that, the territory was part of India. Some of the most important carpets in history were woven for the Mughal court in Lahore in the 17th and 18th centuries. The art of weaving was developed in this region (including Pakistan), and few people used it at that time. Excavations in the ancient civilization cities of Mohenjo Daro and Harappa in the Indus Valley showed that residents used spindles and turned various materials for weaving.

Some historians believe that the Indus Valley civilization was the first to use woven fabrics. As early as the 11th century, with the arrival of Ghaznavids and Gauris, the first Muslim conquerors in the West, carpet weaving may have appeared on the territory of modern Pakistan. It can certainly be traced back to the Mughal dynasty in the early 16th century. In the century, Timur’s last successor, Babar, extended his rule from Kabul to India and established the Mughal Empire. Indian craftsmen have adopted these techniques under the auspices of the Mughals.

Those carpets that were created in Punjab at that time (now we know them as Lahore carpets) adopted decorative patterns and styles inherent in the architecture of Mughal. Today, handmade carpets have become one of Pakistan’s main export products, and its production volume is the second largest, small-scale independent equipment production. According to statistics from the Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association, the number of carpet artisans is estimated to be 200,000 to 250,000. Moreover, there are 150-200 thousand looms nationwide. Impressive, isn’t it? Pakistani craftsmen have the opportunity to make any style of carpet from various popular seagull patterns, medals, paisley patterns, patterns, and various types of geometric designs.

How Oriental Rugs Are Made

Oriental carpet structure

The warp consists of parallel threads stretched between the slats of the machine, on which knots are knitted. Most of the carpet weavers use cloth as the base material whenever possible because flat and straight oriental carpets are easier to manufacture on cotton than on a wool base (woolen yarn remains more flexible than cotton plus is more responsive to moisture changes). Weavers use wool much more often than cotton during working on both warps as well as weft.

Weft – runs along the width of the carpet under the warp threads, above them, and between the lines of knots. Most frequently, ducks are made from cotton, silk, or wool. The wefts help keep the rows of knots in place and reinforce the structure of the handmade rug.

Knots – knitted with yarn loops around pairs of warp threads and trimmed from the front. The ends of the knots become the pile of an oriental carpet.

Side edges – are created by encircling several warp threads around the edge of the carpet by yarn to strengthen that part of the carpet.

Trailing edges – keep knots as well as wefts from slipping along the warp threads. Many types of carpets have flat-woven keel edges on both edges.

Fringe – is formed by collecting and bundling warp yarns from both edges of the carpet after the carpet is separated from the loom. The ties in these warp tufts hold the pile knots and trailing edges tightly at the end of the carpet.

Carpet Design: Main parts

The carpet field is that background in the ornament of carpets inside the perimeters.

The main border is the most large-scale pattern along the outer edge of the carpet; secondary curbs are narrow decorative patterns adjacent to the main curb.

A medallion is a circular, elliptical, or polygonal pattern element that sometimes holds the core of carpet field.

Corner patterns – these can be brackets or vaults painted on the ridges of the field.

What Does the Oriental Rugs Machine Consist of?

Most of the carpet creators work on thickened vertical machines (although few semi-nomadic artisans in Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, regions still use compact horizontal ground looms). The simplest upright loom is a bit more than a strong frame, normally made of wood, intended to hold the taut threads on which the weaver knots in rows. The warp separator is utilized to separate the warp of the carpet so that the weft hook can be threaded from one part of the carpet to the other. In more complex vertical machines, the top and bottom rails are made on rollers. Roller looms allow the weaver to roll the finished piece of carpet down and behind the loom, making it possible to create longer carpets on a loom of an equal height.

Oriental Carpet Weaver’s Tools

In the manufacture of oriental carpets, the majority of weavers operate with a hook-shaped blade or know as gollab, in just one hand.

The weaver pushes the yarn through the warp threads with his finger, then, with a knife hook, catches the yarn behind the warp and pulls it out from the front of the carpet. When the knot is attached, the weaver chops the yarn with a razor-sharp movement of the knife. After many lines of knots are attached along the loom, the carpet weaver uses a massive “comb” created of metal or wood to beat the rows of knots together in the direction of the warp and tighten the weaving. When a strip of the pile a couple of centimeters wide is ready across the width of the loom, the weaver uses special scissors to trim the pile to the final length.

The scissors have curved handles to allow the blades to trim irregularities in the face of the carpet. Like a knife and a comb, scissors are forged by blacksmiths from the best grades of steel to avoid mistakes in carpet making, as this is a long process and one wrong move of a poor-quality tool can ruin the work of several months or even years of the master.

How to Choose Oriental Rugs

Having a Persian carpet is similar to proudly owning a precious bit of history. Original carpets of Iran, before called Persia, are precious among collectors worldwide. Loved for the splendor in their designs, their intricately interwoven hues, sturdiness, and the ages of hard work that went into creating every carpeting, Persian carpets will bring charm to any interior.

Persian Embargo

In case have a Persian carpet, it’s valuable. After September 2010, the US officials placed an area embargo towards items from Iran. It prohibits Persian rugs from entering or moving out of the US. You should purchase Persian rugs which might be already withinside the united states without recourse, however, without the new import of those oriental rugs, the collection of available products is diminished, and constantly growing in value.

Handmade or Fake Oriental Rugs?

Authentic oriental rugs are hand-crafted on looms located withinside the place of the person weaving it because it takes nearly a year (or sometimes even more) to finish the rug. Rotate the rug over and have a look at the sewing for moderate irregularities withinside the weave, that’s an illustration of the hand-crafted process. You should also notice a clean image on the carpeting on the backside of hand-crafted carpeting. At the topside, wrap the carpet, showing the tufts. Examine to make certain the color is going to the bottom of every tuft and search for knots at the bottom. These also are signs that the rug is hand-crafted. Handmade Oriental rugs are significantly more expensive than machine-made carpets.

Age is a determinant of value, and dealers use strategies to simulate it, so what can also additionally appear like a vintage can also additionally, on nearer inspection, come to be a fake. If you think your carpet is older than 50 years – that is the standard definition of a vintage – inspecting a whole lot of things can verify this.

Determine the carpets type through consulting an encyclopedia of Oriental carpets. Knowing the type can assist in finding out the age, due to the fact a few Qum or white Kashan rugs were made after 1920. Do not date the carpet completely through the style; these patterns can be repeated in present-day factories.

Look for signs and symptoms of the damage, harm, or repair. A vintage rug is in all likelihood to have worn piles. It may additionally have frayed edges and holes. Look for harm that has been repaired. Repairs will probably be visible on the underside of the rug. Although this won’t assist to exactly say the date of the carpet, it’ll assist distinguish a faked vintage from an actual one. A carpet with none of these symptoms of damage is much more likely to be created recently.

Turn the oriental over, take a ruler and check out the quantity of knots per 1 inch. Rotate the ruler and examine the quantity of knots pet 1 sq inches of warp. The quantity of knots can tell you in which epoch the rug was created.

Note the colors. Carpets produced before 1920 had been colored with vegetable dyes. They have a narrower variety of colors than artificial ones and fade obviously quickly with age. To simulate aging, a few producers bleach their carpets. You can distinguish a bleached carpet from a true vintage one by analyzing the pile.

Separate the pile and have a look at the colors with the help of a magnifying glass. If the oriental rug is vintage and the color has worn out obviously, you’ll notice a sluggish color variant from the bottom to the top. Alternatively, if the carpet turned lighter by being bleached, there may be a discrete band of color somewhere in the middle.

A carpet runner on a set of stairs is an underrated way to boost up the style factor of your home. A carpet runner is a long strip of material, usually made of carpet material such as wool, nylon, or polyester, that sits in the middle of your stairs. They are easy to install and are a quick and inexpensive fix to hide signs of wear and tear on your stairs. Runner on carpeted stairs also warms up a home, creating a more cozy atmosphere. Your pets may also prefer the softness of the carpet over the floors, where they can also slip around if they are not careful.

A patterned runner can add something funky to your decor, or a dark color could contrast nicely with a lightly colored floor or carpet. Not only are carpet runners stylish, but they also serve a practical purpose. They can help make your stairs a little safer and help you avoid slipping on the stairs.

Is Runner on Carpeted Stair a Good Idea?

It’s more common to install carpet runners over hardwood flooring as opposed to carpet because of the way it’s usually installed. Typically, a carpet runner needs staples or tacks to secure them correctly to the stairs, which you cannot do over a very plush carpet. Many experts would advise against using a carpet runner with your carpeted stairs because of this. For the carpet runner to be safe, it needs to be secured as tightly as possible. The last thing you want is your runner to slip around, causing a falling or tripping hazard.

You can technically still install a carpeted runner over carpeted stairs. I would recommend that you opt for a low pile runner over a low pile carpet. You should use tack strips to secure the runner in place and consider only leaving it on for a short amount of time. Placing a thin underlayment between the runner and stairs will protect the carpet underneath to avoid heavy dust and moisture buildup.

Furthermore, adding carpet over the carpet can still transfer damage and dirt between surfaces. The tread can also move between carpets, indenting the carpet underneath. Dirt and moisture can get trapped underneath, and it can be difficult for you to notice there’s an issue until you uninstall the runner. The worst-case scenario could be that enough moisture builds up between carpets over time and creates mold or mildew, which can cause a foul odor and isn’t safe. Most people want their runners to protect the integrity of their stairs underneath, and you wouldn’t achieve this in the case of carpet over the carpet.

Another downside to carpet over carpet making it difficult to clean each surface properly is that it can also cause allergens to build up. Whether or not you have a diagnosed allergy, these can be bothersome to have to fester in your home. Allergens can leave you feeling stuffed up or congested. If you have pets or children, these allergens can bother them as well.

Vinyl Runner

If you still want that look of a runner over your stairs but don’t want to remove the carpet that’s already there, consider going with a vinyl runner. A vinyl runner works with stairs of any material. They serve the same practical purpose that a carpet runner does by protecting the integrity of your carpet. They also have the cushion you want for a comfortable step and traction for a safe step.

A vinyl runner can also be found in various colors, patterns, and styles, so you’re not sacrificing that look that you want from a runner either. Many of them also come with little teeth along the bottom to stay more securely on your carpet. This means you don’t have to put in as much work when installing them, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to do anything at all. It’s ideal for keeping it as secure as possible, so it doesn’t move around.

Vinyl runners are also much easier to clean than carpet runners. They don’t trap spills or dirt and need to be wiped down to remove any residue. That being said, it’s essential to let the vinyl dry before running up and down the stairs. Wet vinyl can be very dangerous. It’s also crucial that no wet shoes are used on vinyl, as this can cause a falling hazard.

The downside to vinyl runners is they may not necessarily achieve the aesthetic you are looking for. You can find some very fashionable options that are affordable, however. Another issue is that vinyl is a reasonably toxic plastic, so it is not as widely available as it used to be. Many people are avoiding placing vinyl in their homes where possible.

No matter how it is installed, a runner can shift a little bit from time to time. It’s essential to check on it to ensure it’s staying secure. Going down the stairs quickly on a loose runner can cause a tumble very easily.

Step-by-Step Process to Install Runner On Carpeted Stairs

That being said, installing a vinyl runner on carpeted stairs can be done effectively and safely by following a few simple rules. Of course, you want to follow the instructions provided with your purchase as closely as possible. There may be specific ways to install the carpet runner that you’ve selected or additional steps you need to take, apart from how the installation is typically done. You want to be sure to vacuum the stairs as thoroughly as possible before placing anything down on them.

1. Vacuum clean

After you have finished vacuuming, you’ll want to start the installation process on the bottom stair.

2. Unroll and start from the bottom

The bottom of the vinyl runner should touch the floor. Use the equipment provided, usually a tack or strip, and carefully secure the runner to the first riser. The first riser is the area between the floor and the first tread. Unroll the vinyl runner very carefully up to the next step, and use your equipment or stair rod to secure the runner to the second riser.

3. Proceed from bottom to top

Continue the process going up the stairs, taking it slowly and using precision and patience. You want to take care that with each step, you are double-checking that everything is secure. Once you are at the top step, be sure to secure the runner on the tread and at the sides of the very top. Once you are done, do a once-over of each step to triple-check that the vinyl is safely secured. If any part feels loose, don’t be afraid to go in with another tack or stair rod.

4. Consider alternatives

There are some alternatives to runners for your carpeted stairs if you are looking for safety rather than just the look of a runner. A stair tread is another option to get extra support on your carpeted stairs to avoid trips and falls. These are rectangular pieces of carpet that secure well to carpet, giving the stairs a unique look while also giving that extra safety barrier. Some stair treads will just lay over the stair, while others will fold under the stair tread. Stair treads will also be easier to install if you don’t have a straight staircase.

Conclusion

Being sure to make cleaning your carpets a priority is one of the best ways to maintain the look of it and have it last longer. You can’t avoid the frequent stress of activity on your carpet since you have to be able to live in your space. Being sure to clean your stairs thoroughly with a vacuum and an occasional steam clean or wash will keep them looking fresh and plush.

Ultimately, the choice of which type of carpet runner to go with on your carpeted stairs is up to you. There is a way to install it safely, no matter which style you choose. It’s critical to take the time to install it properly. Check your work over to verify that everything is stuck in place. Having a fashionable runner is useless if it is not safe to use the stairs it lives upon. If you want the look of a runner but don’t want the maintenance involved with carpet over the carpet, other solutions will work for you.

When you find a bug in your home that isn’t your typical spider or ant, the first thing you want to do is try to identify it. It’s important to know what type of bug it is so you know if getting rid of the one is good enough, or if you might have to search for a potential infestation of pests. Unfortunately, no matter how meticulous you are with your cleaning, bugs will still find a way into your home and enjoy themselves until you notice them. Two pests that can go undetected while causing a lot of damage to your home, and even yourself, are bed bugs and carpet beetles. Someone not well versed in bugs may not be able to distinguish the difference between bed bugs vs carpet beetles, and therefore, don’t know where to start when it comes to getting rid of them.

Carpet Beetle Rash vs Bed Bug Bites

One of the biggest differences one might notice between carpet beetles and bed bugs is that carpet beetles don’t bite, while bed bugs do. A bed bug prefers blood and tends to feed at night. While they love blood, they can survive without a meal for a few months, which is one of the various reasons why getting rid of bed bugs is so tough. They will hide in the smallest, most inconspicuous spaces until the sun goes down, at which point they will feast on your blood while you snooze. A bed bug bite will leave a red mark on your skin, and it is very itchy and irritating.

While carpet beetles don’t bite, some people are allergic to the fibers that grow on carpet beetle larvae. If they come into contact with your skin and you happen to be sensitive to them, they will leave red marks and rashes on your skin that can actually be painful.

If you’re trying to determine whether or not a red mark on your skin is due to a bed bug or carpet beetle, there are distinct differences. Bed bug bites tend to form a triangular pattern or appear in clusters of three. This is because there are typically multiple bed bugs feeding off of you at once. They typically stay close together while they are eating, which is also why their bites don’t typically appear far apart.

As mentioned, carpet beetles don’t bite, but they can leave a painful rash if you happen to be allergic to their larvae. This condition is called Carpet Beetle Dermatitis, and it doesn’t usually pose a health risk to you. The unfortunate thing is if you happen to be allergic and the first sign you see of a carpet beetle infestation is the rash, chances are, the infestation has grown quite large. Many people will not notice carpet beetles in their homes until they see a rash.

Signs of Carpet Beetles and Bed Bugs

Carpet beetles survive off of the fibers of your belongings, like your carpets, clothing, and other linens. This can absolutely be a nuisance as if you are unable to rid your home of carpet beetles for some time, they can cause a lot of damage to your goods. A carpet beetle will continue to eat at their meal of choice until they become an adult, and then they prefer pollen.

If you see bugs that looks like bed bugs and cannot determine whether or not it is a carpet beetle or a bed bug, there are some small but distinct differences in their appearance. A bed bug is a small size and has a flat body that looks similar to an apple seed. They are typically a red-brown color or tan. While there are a few types of carpet beetles, they are typically either black, brown, orange, or white, and have a little bit of a pattern on their outer shell. They are oval-shaped like bed bugs which are one reason why you might not be able to distinguish between the two right away.

Carpet beetles and bed bugs also leave different signs in your home that’ll help you figure out which one is present.

Signs of Carpet Beetles

Carpet beetle signs

Flying beetles or climbing walls

Carpet, upholstery, and garment damage

Trophies’ hairs are falling out

Skin sheds by larvae and larvae

Dead bugs on the windowsill

As mentioned before, a carpet beetle likes to eat your clothing, your carpets, and other fabrics, so you might notice some holes in those items. You may also see the beetles flying around or walking up to your walls, as they aren’t as adept at hiding as bed bugs. You may also see their larvae around, as they do change form as they grow. Because they love window sills, especially as they mature, you might notice them or their carcasses in that area.

One of the first ways you’ll probably notice that you have bed bugs is if you find bites on your body. They also leave reddish-brown stains on your bed and other pieces of furniture. Carpet beetles look like small smears and are typically either blood or fecal matter. They also lay small white or yellow eggs, and if the infestation is big enough, you may also notice a sweet but musty odor in the areas where they are populating.

Signs of Bed Bugs

Bed bugs signs

Sheets or pillowcases with bloodstains

Rust stains on the bed and furnishings

Cases of eggs

The skin sheds

Musty smell

Bed bugs will typically attach themselves to your clothing, your suitcase, or the other belongings that you bring to a location where they are, and come home with you. It only takes one or two hitchhikers to start an infestation in your home. They lay eggs quite rapidly, so they can populate your home quickly.

Carpet beetles can attach themselves to your clothing or other items, but they can also fly into your home through a window or a small crack in the door. If they are reproducing, they lay eggs in their feeding grounds, like your carpet. They will continue to reproduce and feed off your items until they become adults. At this point, they will leave your home in search of pollen.

How to Get Rid of Carpet Beetles and Bed Bugs

Unfortunately, regardless of whether your home has been visited by bed bugs or carpet beetles, both species breed quite fast. Bed bugs can lay multiple eggs in a day if they are eating enough. Their eggs typically hatch within a week. Carpet beetles take a little bit longer to reproduce, and their eggs hatch in a couple of weeks. Bed bugs don’t have a larvae state and just grow in size until they reach adulthood. Carpet beetles do, and regardless of which state they are in, they can be destructive.

No matter which bug is in your home, there are a few things you can do to help control the spread of these bugs before calling in a professional to exterminate them.

1. Sanitize

It’s important to sanitize your surfaces and belongings and get rid of any dust and clutter. If your concern is carpet beetles, you’ll want to carefully inspect your clothing to look for beetles, and subsequently store your garments in tight, plastic containers. If the problem is bed bugs, you’ll want to do the same with your bedding and other linens, and wash and dry the garments in high heat before storing them in tight, closed plastic containers or bags.

2. Vacuum Cleaning

You’ll also want to vacuum your furniture and bedding very carefully, regardless of which bug is in your home. You’ll want to sanitize and clean your vacuum with rubbing alcohol after, and dispose of the bag if there is one. It can also be helpful to steam clean your furniture, baseboards, and walls to try and kill anything that is lurking in those areas. Neither bug likes heat, and so if it’s hot enough, they will both die.

3. Use carpet beetle traps.

The adhesive is already on the traps, so all you have to do is take them out of the packaging, pick one trap, and fold it. Put it in the area where you observe the most beetles crawling.

4. Use a Spray

Bed bug sprays come in a wide variety of formulas. Some of them are made of synthetic materials. Permethrin or pyrethroids are the active ingredients in these products, which are highly efficient in keeping bed bugs away. The EcoRaider spray is the one we suggest most heartily. So far, this is hands-down the greatest spray. However, we also advise washing your bedding with a bed insect detergent after using this product. It’s the quickest and most effective technique to avoid being stung. There’s a good reason why this is an enduring best-seller!

It will probably be tempting to frantically search for items around your home to get rid of either bug yourself. Most love a good DIY project, but in each scenario, it’s best to call the professionals to get the job done well. It can be a costly endeavor, but it is also costly to have to replace all of your belongings that are destroyed or infested by bed bugs or carpet beetles. These professionals have the best tools to give you the best chance of getting rid of a bug infestation permanently. They also have products that are the safest for your home, your belongings, and your health. Many DIY products, or even products sold in stores, are heavy chemicals that are hard to use and can be potentially hazardous.

Conclusion

It can feel embarrassing to have bugs in your home, regardless of whether they are bed bugs or carpet beetles. However, it’s important to remember that these bugs don’t care what state your home is in. It’s not a reflection of your cleanliness. These bugs are both annoying to deal with even though they do different things. Thankfully, there are ways to differentiate bed bugs vs carpet beetles, get rid of them, and get your home back to its peaceful state.

This is one of the most common and important questions that homeowners ask themselves. Let’s say you are renovating the floors, or maybe you are planning a new interior, you need to understand what is the difference between various floor types, and which one will suit your needs. Both carpets and hardwood floors have a lot of specific features that make them good for some rooms and a real disaster when placed in others. In this post, I’ll try to make it easy for you and explain the main differences and similarities of carpet vs hardwood floor. Sit tight and read on, I hope this information will help you make a smart choice.

Cleaning and Maintenance of Hardwood Floor vs Carpet

I have placed it first among the carpet and hardwood floor differences, because regular cleaning is something we do every day, and it’s good to think about it beforehand. A proper floor type will save you tons of energy and time which you might enjoy spending otherwise.

Floors are subject to heavy traffic and spills that are often unavoidable. Choosing the best floor cover is a good preventative measure to keep your floors clean and avoid spending your budget in vain.

To understand the difference let’s see what these cleaning methods actually are.

The most simple method to keep your hardwood floor clean it’s to clean it with a broom as often as possible. In my home, I usually do it daily. Depending on how heavy you use your floors, how many people live in your house, and whether you have kids and pets, this procedure can be done even once a week. I also hardly recommend getting a microfibre mop for the hardwood floor. It will not leave any scratches on the delicate surface and it will effectively catch all the dust. On top of that, vacuum your floors at least once in two weeks.

If you need to give your hardwood floors a deeper cleaning you can use a special wood floor cleaning solution and a wood floor mop. In a mild case, you can use just clear water. What you have to do in this case is just dump the floor and don’t let the water stand on the floors for a long time because it will get damaged. Damp-mop the floors and remove all the water residue with a microfibre.

Now let’s see how you can clean the carpeted floors.

Regular cleaning of the carpets involves vacuuming and treating them for any spots if spills have happened. While vacuum cleaning is easy and should be done no less than once a week, removing stains is a completely different story. Check out our cleaning tips and see what’s the best way to clean the carpet.

Vacuuming will remove all the largest dust particles and dirt. However, if you suffer from allergies, it’s not the best option. You should avoid carpeting because allergens are much harder to remove than from the hardwood floors.

Verdict: choose the hardwood floors if you have allergies or breathing difficulties, and carpets if regular vacuuming isn’t something that scares you off.

Appearance and Comfort

Just as any other part of the interior, floors have to be furnished in a way that makes us happy. If you like to step on the first thing in the morning, or after a hard day’s work, that’s a well-invested budget. Floors have to be not only easy to clean but comfortable and visually pleasing. That’s why I’ve divided this factor into a separate point to consider when choosing between carpet and hardwood.

What I like most about the carpet is the comfort that these floors provide. It feels great for the bare feet, especially the cut loop carpets like plush and Saxony. Carpets are great for the colder climate, and they add extra warmth to the floor. Moreover, carpets have soundproofing qualities, so if you’re trying to insulate the room from the outside noise, carpet is your choice.

Modern carpets come in endless types of designs and patterns, so you’ll definitely find a look that matches your style.

Hardwood floors are also quite noisy, so if you like quietness, you can cover the high traffic areas with rugs. That will help to solve this problem. Wooden floors are eco-friendly and have a special pleasant smell. The texture of the traditional hardwood floor is beyond comparison!

Hardwood floors are a great natural choice and a universal solution for any interior type. They will suit any furniture. Their choice is limited compared to the carpets. In most cases, hardwood floors look more elegant and timeless.

Unsurprisingly, wood flooring is harder to touch than carpet. They are usually heavier on your feet, especially if you have been standing for a long time. Hardwood is also not suitable for kneeling or lying down, which may be an important factor. Once again, if you have kids often in the room, carpet is a softer and also more comfortable floor material. It is plush soft and comfortable for your body and feet. This is the main reason why I usually prefer carpets over wood.

Cost of Hardwood Floors vs Carpet

As far as flooring is concerned, the cost is an important factor in any purchasing decision. When choosing to get either wooden or carpet flooring, the price varies greatly, especially when considering other options. This can completely rule out the possibility of using wooden floors.

Wood flooring is one of the most expensive floor coverings you may find. This is because hardwood floors are made from natural products (trees) and are not intended to replicate any other products. Therefore, such floors can be a few times more expensive than carpets. In most cases, the cost of hardwood floors is between $9 and $12 per square foot, and this price includes the installation. However, some more advanced hardwood floor options may cost even more. The cost per square foot can reach up to $30.

The prices of the carpet on the contrary are much cheaper. You can get carpet starting from $1 per square foot for cheaper materials like polyester and olefin, the prices range up to $20 per square foot if you are choosing a high and carpeting product. So based on your budget you will spend much less compared to finishing with hardwood floors.

While the cost of the initial installation is very different, it may pay off in the long term because hardwood floors are much more durable compared to carpets. In a good scenario, you will have to change the carpet every 5 to 10 years depending on the area where they are located and how heavy you use them.

The Durability of Carpet vs Hardwood Floors

This is the most important question that homeowners ask themselves. No wonder the durability of the floors it’s one of the main reasons to get a specific type. To make sure your newly finished floors will last longer just have to check out the characteristics of hardwood floors and carpets.

As I have already mentioned above, carpeting will need to be changed every 10 years or even less depending on how many people live in your household if you have kids, pets, and also the area where the carpet is located.

The lifespan of the hardwood floors it’s almost unlimited. If installed correctly and made from good materials such floor can last even a century. Even your grandkids will be able to enjoy their hardwood flooring. As it ages, some simple maintenance will be enough to resurface the floors and make them look new again.

From this perspective, hardwood floors are a better investment for the long term.

But don’t let me discourage you from installing the carpet. It has a lot of advantages, and you can do some things to minimize the damage and prolong their lifespan. Regular cleaning is one of them. If you care for the carpet properly and do not drag any dirt and dust from the outside your carpet will serve you a long life. Moreover, you can always choose carpet tiles instead of broadloom carpet, so if any part of the carpet gets stained or destroyed you can always easily replace it with a new carpet tile.

Which One Is More Pet Friendly?

Well, this is a tricky question because both floor surfaces have a lot of advantages and disadvantages of having kids and pets at home. Let’s see all of them in detail.

Safety

Safety is one of the things you consider first when installing the floors. Messes like spills may become a serious safety hazard.

The main advantage of having a carpet is that this floor surface is comfortable and soft for your pets to lie on. It is also safe for their legs when they jump off the couch or run across the room. You don’t have to worry that the spilled drink will become a slipping hazard and result in an emergency visit.

The disadvantage of the carpet is that looped carpet piles may catch the nails of your animals. To avoid this, please make sure you install a cut pile carpet.

Hardwood floors also have a lot of advantages when having pets. If you are durable and easy to clean. Plus they will not capture the pet’s nails. Unfortunately, hardwood floors may scratch easily and get very slippery when wet. In order to protect the floors from water damage and your pet from the trauma, make sure you dry the floors as soon as you notice a spill.

What Rooms Are Better for the Hardwood Floors and Which for the Carpets?

Time to see the ups and downs of carpet and hardwood floors in different rooms. Carpets are great for covering however they are not practical to use in all the rooms.

Carpet vs Hardwood in Bedrooms

The bedroom is the perfect place to have carpeted floors. Such a floor will be very comfy to wake up to, it will be much warmer than the hardwood and pleasant to walk on barefoot. There are so many different types of carpets available so you’ll definitely find the one that matches your bedroom decor.

Carpets on the bedroom floors will also dampen the sounds. Warm under the feet, plush, soft, and soothing to the touch, carpet is always my number one recommended choice for the bedrooms.

While it is not as soft and comfy to touch as the carpet, the hardwood floor is also a popular choice for the bedrooms. It can be combined with bedside rugs which will provide you the same soft feel when you wake up in the morning.

Hardwood floors give your bedroom a warm and natural look. Moreover, what I like most about it is the fit hardwood floors are hypoallergenic. Your bedroom floor can be easily swept and wiped. It’s a great choice if you suffer from allergies and like dust-free air.

Carpet or Hardwood Floors in Living Room

The living room is another popular place where carpets can be found. Since we are high traffic areas you should choose a durable carpet preferably with the loop lies. Carpets in the living room create a nice warm atmosphere that you and your guests will love. A cozy and soft living room floor will be a favorite gathering spot.

When choosing a carpet for the living room you have to look at its durability which is measured by the face weight on the carpet and also check out how easy this material is in cleaning. On top of that select the carpet depending upon the softness. If you’d like to spend a lot of time laying and sitting on the floor, get a plush cut pile carpet.

Hardwood floors are the second most popular choice for the living rooms. You should select if your living room is really busy if you have pets and kids. It’s much easier to clean and will not contribute to your allergies. All the incidents can be cleaned without a hassle.

Hardwood floors will give your living room a traditional style. To make it more comfortable, match hardwood floors with area rugs. Place them in the sitting area and make sure that at least all of the front legs of the furniture are standing on the rug.

Carpet vs Hardwood Stairs

What would you do about the stairs? As you know hard surfaces can be slippery and extremely dangerous if you fall. I would personally recommend carpeting the stairs if you’re concerned about the safety. Plus the carpets are available in so many different colors and shapes that you will always choose a nice looking material for the stairs. And currently, carpeted stairs are not as easy to clean as the wood, but with a good vacuum cleaner and a little bit of time, you will keep them immaculate.

Carpeted stairs also provide good sound absorption. They are nice to have if you would like to sneak in downstairs at night when everyone is sleeping.

Sum Up

Carpet floors

Hardwood floors

Cost

Around $3 per square foot

Around $8 per square foot

Durability

Up the 10 years with good care

Up to 100 years or even more

Real Estate Value

Doesn’t have estate advantage

Adds significant real estate value

Cleaning

Vacuum cleaned, only stains need special care

Clean them with a wet mop

Comfort

Plush, warm, and soft to walk on

Feel hard on feet, colder

Rooms

Perfect for the bedrooms

Perfect for any room if matched with area rugs

Health Considerations

Collect allergens and dust

Easy to clean the dust

Conclusion

All the floor types and disadvantages and I hope that my guide will help you choose the right floor for the room. If you choose hardwood floors, be ready that you will have to place the protective covers on the furniture legs to prevent them from scratching the floors. Hardwood floors are timeless and add great value to the real estate, and carpets are soft and comfy, and welcoming. At the end of the day, carpet vs hardwood floor choice is yours.

What is a Carpet Pile?

There are many carpet types, and when categorizing them, we often mention the pile. What is it? A carpet pile is a visible upper layer of the carpet, which may have a different shape and structure. Choosing the right type of carpet is an important aspect of decorating your home. Carpets make the room warm and comfortable, and even thin carpets can add personality to the room. This should be taken into consideration when choosing a carpet for your home.

Types of Carpet Pile

Low Pile Carpet

Low Pile carpets have a height of under 1/4 inch.

These carpets have dense fabric loops and short fibers. The short fibers of low-pile carpets are usually dense and flat, making the surface of the carpet smoother. Homeowners buy this type of carpet usually for function, not design. Low-pile carpets are effective in any room in your home because they are easy to clean and easy to maintain. They are easy to vacuum clean and can withstand even heavy traffic.

They will not accumulate debris like deep pile carpets. Plus, they are convenient, you can move furniture around without any problems. Fibers of the low pile carpets are shorter, so they will not penetrate furniture like high pile carpets. Even heavy furniture will not crush these carpet fibers. Indeed, low pile carpets also have dents, but they are not that obvious. Low pile carpets are usually cheaper than deep pile carpets.

They are often made of nylon, polyester, and olefin, inexpensive, and have low fluff. Low pile carpets have lower warmth, comfort, and comfort than long-pile carpets. If you need a carpet for the area where you usually walk with bare feet, consider a high pile carpet.

Medium Pile Carpet

Medium pile carpets are carpets that have fibers of 1/4 to 1/2 inches in size.

These carpets are between high pile carpets and low pile carpets, so it is difficult to determine their advantages and disadvantages. They are suitable for short-pile or deep-pile carpets, but in general, they are always a good choice.

High Pile Carpet

The shaggy high pile carpet is the one that has 1/2″ to 3/4″ in height.

Although it can be as high as 3/4 inch, those are very rare on the market. High pile carpets are also fluffy and very soft! They provide an extra “buffer effect”, and are very useful when children are around. They are also good when you have neighbors below and want to be as quiet as possible because high pile carpets can isolate the sound much better. High pile carpets are more difficult to vacuum.

They are also not suitable for people with severe allergies, because longer fibers allow more allergens to penetrate. The weight of the furniture is more likely to leave marks on the high pile carpet. Luckily for us, cleaning the high pile carpet is no longer difficult (many people think it is). However, because of the longer fibers, you need to get a special vacuum cleaner.

High piled carpets can be used in areas with little foot traffic. The fluffy carpet has a luxurious appearance and can enhance the beauty of any room. Homeowners install deep pile carpets in their homes because this kind of carpet is warm and comfortable: high pile carpets are a kind of carpet that can be placed in the room to relax. It is also convenient for you to go barefoot when you are walking around in the living room or bedroom.

The fluffy carpet provides an extra cushion for walking and sitting. The carpet is reminiscent of sitting on the floor and spending time with family. When you look at the interior, you almost immediately notice the carpet. Low-pile carpets tend to fade in comparison. High pile retains heat better than low-pile carpets. If your guests or family members like to sit on the floor, they will feel more comfortable on your fluffy carpet.

Cut Pile Carpet

This type of carpet literally has cut fibers on the top, they are shredded off during the production process. Cut pile carpet is durable, and because of the material used and yarn twist, it is very dense and will become a great decor for any room. There are a few popular types of cut pile carpets: frieze, Saxony, plush, and cable. Let’s see what makes them different.

There are five popular styles to choose from: textured, plush, Saxony, frieze, and cable.

Textured

This carpet style uses sparse, highly uneven fibers. The result is a casual look that can hide dirt but is not suitable for high-traffic areas.

Plush

The plush carpet is a cut pile carpet style where each of the pile strands is cut to exactly the same length. The threads are also tightly packed together, creating a smooth, almost velvety surface for a very smooth and formal look. The pile is usually short, but the tightly packed texture of the strands gives the feel of a much thicker and softer carpet. Honestly speaking, there is no much visible difference between the Saxony and plush carpet styles, that’s why these terms are often used interchangeably.

Saxony

In order to be extremely soft under the feet, the filaments that make up the deep fibers are curled loosely at the root, then cut off at the top and slightly separated. Such carpets have a rough, hairy appearance. The fibers of a velvety Saxony carpet are straight and lie in the same direction, so when you move the pile, the color of the carpet will naturally change from light to dark (and vice versa). Textured Saxony rugs rotate in different directions, reflecting light at different angles, creating a two-tone appearance.

Due to the depth and softness of the pile, Saxony carpets and rugs are most suitable for areas of your home where you want to add a sense of luxury, such as the bedroom. If you are considering a Saxony short-pile carpet but want to place it in a high-traffic area, then twist fibers carpet may be the best choice.

Frieze

A carpet type is a short piled carpet, but it is unique because it’s made from long fibers that are then subjected to a high degree of twisting. Such carpets have great fiber lengths from ½ to ¾ inch. It is a unique twist (curly and long). They have typically around seven or nine stacks twisted tightly to give it a fluffy look, and because the stacks are long, they form a thick stack. The long length of the stacks prevents them from standing upright, but this creates some kind of informal appearance and may not be suitable for office use or formal spaces.

Cable

The cable carpet is made of thick knotted yarn, which adds a touch of luxury to everyday life. This is a thicker and usually longer carpet, more suitable for rooms with less activity. It will become dull and crushed under heavy traffic, so it is not recommended to use it on stairs, corridors, and other crowded places in the home.

Loop Pile Carpet

Loop carpets are exactly what the name sounds like. They are left as loops, they are not cut like cut stacks. They are made in many different weights and thicknesses and are typically made of nylon, wool, or olefin. The carpets are very durable and can withstand heavy traffic, which makes them an ideal choice for hallways and stairs.

Unfortunately, sharp objects and pet claws can catch and loosen the fibers. Although this has no effect on its lifespan, it can make a loop pile carpet look old-fashioned over time. The most popular types of loop carpets are sisal, which comes in a variety of beautiful patterns and textures, and Berber, the most popular type, known for its durability, splash resistance, and versatility.

Don’t forget to check out my previous post about cut pile carpet vs loop pile carpet differences.

How to Restore Carpet Pile

1) Ice Cubes and Hard Brushes

When you move the table, chair, or sofa, even the beautiful carpet will wear out after some time, as they will be leaving unsightly cracks in the carpet. These marks are easy to repair: start with a block of ice and let it melt naturally, or use a hairdryer to speed up the process, but make sure not to use a large fire, otherwise you risk damaging the carpet. Once the ice melts and the stain disappears completely.

2) Damp Cloth and Iron

To treat carpet hair that has been stepped on after years of use, try using a damp cloth and steam iron. Place it on the affected area of the carpet, and then use a hot iron to hold it on the fabric for a few seconds. This will cause the trampled fiber to rise again. There are several considerations for this technique, the most important of which is to never put the iron directly on the carpet.

Even if the contact lasts only a few seconds, it will leave burn marks. In addition, when applying various stains, be sure to keep the fabric moist. The combination of water and heat helps to straighten the pile.

3) Hair Dryer

You can also restore the carpet with a hairdryer. Take a spray bottle and fill it with water. Make sure the water is neither too cold nor too hot. Now wet the entire wrinkled carpet surface with water. After you spray the carpet completely with water, set the dryer at a higher position. Blow on the dry, flat, damp surface. Be sure to blow dry with a hairdryer until the water-saturated part is no longer wet or humid. When the carpet is dry, you touch it with your fingers and beat it to better match the rest of the mat.

4) Baking Soda and Vinegar

Similar to the methods listed above, using a homemade carpet cleaner with vinegar or baking soda can help freshen your carpet fibers and remove stains. Spread baking soda on the carpet, then use a stiff brush.

Baking soda can be used as a natural carpet cleaner to remove odors and kill bacteria. Rub it in multiple directions, soak the carpet with strong pressure, let the baking soda soak overnight, and then vacuum it out. Then mix equal amounts of vinegar and water in a spray bottle, and then apply a large amount to the affected area. Lift the pile with a brush and let it dry. The vinegar smell will disappear after a few hours, leaving a clean, fresh carpet.

Conclusion

Knowing different types of carpet piles will help you know which carpet is best for your needs. I hope you will now be able to tell the difference and make the best choice!

A carpet moth is the last thing you want to see living in your favorite carpets. If not taken care of, they will infest and destroy the flooring beyond repair. In today’s post, I’ll describe what causes carpet moths, how to identify and get rid of them for good.

How Do Carpet Moths Look Like?

Carpet moths are able to lay even 300 eggs at once and are so tiny that you will hardly see them. Although the crawling larvae are a bit more obvious, they are small larvae wrapped in silk and crawl their way down your carpet when they bite. And remember that the heavily stained carpet fabric won’t put you off. In fact, they mask and usually have a dusty color that’s hard to notice.

They can live as long as 2 years, and eat a lot of carpet in the meanwhile! Once they have eaten enough keratine, moths close their box and create a cocoon that reminds rice grain, puffs up, and turns into adult moths that are just 5 mm long. They are usually gray, or beige, with wings of up to 15 mm, although they don’t usually fly, they mostly jump. So how can you tell if the moth hovering in it is a carpet moth? The moth is beige or brown in color and has a small wingspan of 14-18 mm. It is advisable to get rid of any moths that are inside, or at least catch them and let them out if you wish. At the very least, they don’t lay eggs that turn into tiny worms that can ruin your carpet.

The adult carpet moth has a very distinctive appearance with a dark gray-brown stripe on the upper body that extends to the middle of the forewings. The rest of the body and the hind wings are very light gray-beige. The larvae are more difficult to spot because they can change color depending on what they eat. By absorbing the dye, they will often be the same color as your carpet. It is the larvae that eat the carpets, not the adult moths.

Here are some obvious signs of a carpet moth infestation:

Carpet fibers that have come loose for no apparent reason. This happens because the larvae have eaten the nodes.

You may see tiny caterpillars crawling under the carpet.

You may notice tiny cocoons that blend into the wool of your rug. They are often flat, oval in shape with pointed ends.

Moths fly across space.

The real flying adults. If you have many flying adults, the infestation can be significant. Loose fibers from the carpet lie on the pile. This is because the larvae eat the knots on the underside of the carpet. Cocoons – 1/8 inch in diameter x ½ inch long. The cocoons are usually of the same color as the pile on the carpet.

The larvae hide their cocoons to match the color of the wool around them. The actual larvae wind along the surface of the hair and below it. the carpet.

An adult carpet moth is about 5 mm long, with yellowish-brown forewings and three darker spots on each wing. The hind wings are light gray and lined. The case-bearing carpet moth has a white color. They are more distinctive because they are dull white with brown heads. However, as the larva grows, it will weave a cocoon around itself, and when the cocoon becomes large enough to make the larva suppurate, the cocoon will be sealed.

Even if you do not see any of these signs, a carpet moth infection may occur. Dark, their larvae are small and hidden on the carpet, so they may not even be there. Carpet moths or carpet moths (Trichophaga tapetzella) are common all over the world. The signs of carpet moths can help you determine if you are living with these insects.

Carpet moth wings are usually patterned, have antennae on the head, and also have feathers on the lower body. The colors, sizes, and movements of carpet moths play an important role in determining the type. The life cycle of carpet moths is 1 year, with the wings open the size reaches 14-18 mm.

Carpet moth larvae develop on animal skins, woolen clothing, and carpets between April and October. go through the caterpillar phase and finally get your butterfly-like appearance. Detecting moths is not impossible. You just have to pay close attention and train your eyes.

If you notice spots on your carpet that are missing wool or scrubbing peeling off, you can be a sign that the moth has been foraging on the carpet. You can also see their nets or tiny eggs that are usually stuck to the back of the carpets, although they sometimes drop them on the front of the carpet, usually further in the pile. If you also see tiny flies in your closet, basement, and living room, be sure to check your carpets for moths. This is different from observing pantry moths in the kitchen.

Life Cycle of Moths in Carpets

The life span of adult female moths is not long, and during the life span, a female can lay hundreds of eggs. They place the eggs on the quietest, darkest and quietest carpet and let them sit for 4-10 days before hatching. The larvae can live for up to 2 years, which can explain the continuous carpet damage during winter feeding. However, in the warm period, they will change up within 2 months after hatching, resulting in a series of cycles in the months from spring to autumn.

This stage lasts for up to 2 weeks until the adult appears. Adults are relatively harmless and can only live for 2 to 3 months. However, there is always the risk of increased egg production and carpet infestation.

Therefore, the life cycle and larvae of the adult carpet moth must be addressed in the treatment program, since the carpet moth can lay a maximum of 200 eggs at a time. They become moth larvae and start to eat. They eat until they have enough energy to develop. This usually takes 2 months; however, when food is insufficient or the temperature is low, they can survive 2 years before leaving the cocoons.

The larvae will stay in the cocoon for 1 to 2 months before the adult appears. Contrary to what people say that adult moths do not eat, male moths spend time looking for females to mate, while females look for favorable conditions for laying eggs. Clothing (carpet) larva that will damage the clothing when they are constantly looking for food.

The life cycle of moths in the carpet:

Eggs. After mating, the female lays 40 to 50 eggs in 4 to 21 days, from which the larvae of the food machine hatch. They are eating fiber from your clothes for a few days before pupation.

Larvae: They are wrapped in a silk box sealed with feces and fibers. During the transformation, they wrapped the corpse in silk turbans and ate on the way. They become butterflies.

The butterflies mate and continue the cycle from May to October. The life cycle lasts about 65-90 days. Adult female moths live for about 30 days and can lay up to 300 eggs. The larvae hatch from the eggs is harmful because the adult butterflies themselves are called “mills” and pose no threat to their knitwear. The larvae feed on wool, hair, skin, cotton, linen, silk, and synthetic fibers. Fiber: almost everything that can be put in the mouth.

Adult Stage of the Clothes Moth

The common carpet moth, also known as webbing clothes moth, or Tineola bisselliella, is really small in adult size, only 5 to 8 mm long. The adult butterfly is beige or beige with a small piece of light red hair on its head. Adult butterflies are not strong aviators and prefer darkness to light. Therefore, unless your intrusion is severe, you are unlikely to see them fly away. When you do, they are more likely to float in the lower part of the room. Because of their size, unless awe attracts them, they are hard to find. Adult clothing conforms and reproduces, but does not nourish or harm. Adult female moths release a pheromone, and male moths can recognize the pheromone through their antennae. Males search for females by flying over the pheromone cloud, and then mating occurs.

Carpet Moth Larvae

Larvae: At the larval stage, the worm is about half an inch long, cream-colored, and has a body structure of nine segments. Tiny arms are attached to the three segments that follow the head. The next four are made up of tiny legs. A transparent body structure in their body, therefore, reflects the color of the fiber that they have consumed. At this point in the life cycle, the moth’s job is to eat and receive enough nutrients to make its cocoon shell, and to begin with, these tiny worms can feed from three weeks to several months. When you’re done, twist a complete cobweb cover and close it. In fact, early in the larval stage, they begin to make their cocoon and pull it out with them.

The eggs hatch and hatch into larvae that look like small cream-colored worms with a dark head. Newly created larvae are about 1 mm long but grow up to 12 mm. This is the most dangerous phase for the carpets because the larvae like chewing and they feed on natural materials that contain the protein keratin, such as wool, fur, cashmere, silk, feathers, and even leather.

Carpet Moth Eggs

Egg: The egg can hatch in a month or more. This depends on whether the environment is favorable for the egg to develop. The moths lay their eggs undisturbed. They make sure that the eggs are inserted deep into the fiber so that they cannot be easily removed. They are very small white eggs that are generally grouped together. Note that the very tiny particles that look like black eggs are the debris the moth leaves behind, not the eggs themselves.

Once mated, an adult female clothing moth lays 40 to 50 eggs over 2 to 3 weeks and then dies. Eggs are laid individually or in small groups, hidden in materials such as folds of clothing or soft furniture. Eggs are the size of the head of a pin. In summer the eggs hatch between 4 and 10 days and it takes up to 3 days. Weeks until they hatch in winter.

They are unlikely to feed on synthetic fibers, but it is possible when they are contaminated with food stains, skin cells, and human secretions like sweat. The larvae form silky threads that look like cobwebs. They eat, grow, shed, and repeat.

Adult Moths

Adult moth: The adult moth is a very small fly that is golden in color. You can still see the rings under the wings; However, the top rings now have six legs that have smaller attachments for gripping. The fly also has two long antennae.

The adult moth is a fly that migrates from one place to another while laying eggs. It can lay between 40 and 200 eggs. Adult moths can live for two to four weeks. During this time, they do not feed on anything and simply focus on laying thousands of eggs. The adult female dies after she finishes laying eggs.

What Causes Carpet Moths?

Because insecticides have been eliminated from the carpet production steps, this is one of the more common causes of carpet moths. Increased breeding activity in hot and humid weather. The central heating system provides you with a comfortable indoor living environment throughout the year. Carpet moths have a strong attraction to silk, wool, and fur, and keratin in skin and hair. They also like dirty clothes because they contain a lot of sweat and food particles. Carpet moths can be a big problem. Their larvae make them smaller, and the color that usually matches our carpet helps them stay hidden from our sight. They may be right in front of us, but we cannot see them. Your home can provide an ideal living space for these intruders. You want to know how? Below we will take a closer look at this topic.

Natural Fiber

The first and most important reason why moths live at home is a natural fiber. They prefer foods containing animal protein. Do you have a wool blanket? Do you have pet fur on your furniture or carpet? You cannot be immune to these intruders. From silk to the skin, they can bite any animal tissue material. This is caused by the moths’ habit to digest keratin, which is actually their food.

Synthetic Carpet

After reading the last paragraph about natural material, do you feel relieved? You thought: “I don’t have wool or natural silk materials! Moles won’t bother me. I’m afraid these textile enemies will still invade your home! More and more news spread, can carpet moths destroy synthetic carpets? Food left on the carpet, dust, hair, and fur feed on it. The carpet provides them with a warm and secluded place to lay eggs. You feast on them. Their size is microscopic. In this way, you will not notice the infection until there is any visible damage. This gives them the advantage of rapid and widespread dissemination. The carpet was broken by moths.

Lack of Cleaning

Carpet moths like to feed on dirt, hair, fur, and leftover food. All of these will accumulate without proper cleaning. Do you remember the day you said: “Ah, tomorrow I will vacuum. How dirty is a house in a day? The truth is, it will become very dirty. Not only that, but pests can stay longer without the need Worried.”It is a reminder that many people do not believe in the need to vacuum regularly. Trust me, that’s it. If there are no complaints, the larvae can settle down on the carpet. You can change your world by vacuuming every day. Some parts of the carpet are the dustiest. It can be under the furniture or near the edge. It may be a paradise for moths.

Dark and Comfy Place

This also applies to carpets, under furniture, and storage rooms. Female moths like to lay their eggs where there is a lot of food for their larvae. You can live in a quiet place for a long time. Your home is an ideal habitat for moths.

High Temperature

So, who would have thought that the warm, comfortable houses we like will also be loved by moths? I know that it is sad that the warm temperature has caused her reproductive activity to increase. Houses with central heating provide you with a comfortable living environment throughout the year. …This is another reason why carpet moths like to infect carpets. How does a nut rug get into your home? In case carpet moths enter your home, they can cause expensive and uncomfortable injuries. First of all, any hole may attract these butterflies.

Adult carpet moths can easily fly through windows, doors, or cracks. Larvae are everywhere. The hand carpets, rugs, or furniture you bring into your home may have been infected by moths, so they can easily get inside. Are you a taxidermy lover? Do you have cute toys in your house? If so, have you treated them with pesticides? Carpet moths like to feed on an animal’s skin. Untreated animal specimens can easily get infected. The most common thing that happens when you bring stuffed animals, is that you bring moles.

How to Get Rid of Carpet Moths with Natural Treatment

I recommend a 5-step process: thorough removal and cleaning with ‘Moth Fumers’, placing insecticide powder on the areas that have been previously infested, and along baseboards to destroy any larvae that was not removed during the cleaning process.

So these are the 5 steps:

Identifying the insects

Analyze how bad is your moth infestation on the carpet

Clean up the places inhabited by the carpet moths

Stop the reproduction cycle

Eliminate carpet moths and also their eggs

If you are wondering, “Is there a way to get rid of the annoying moths?” Unfortunately, in the past decade, carpet moths are on the rise in the United States invading homes and personal belongings.

This means that the items you use every day, including your priceless carpets and clothing, the risk of permanent damage that may need to be replaced. Some of these pieces may have an emotional value, so throwing them away may be difficult. It’s always better to deal with the problem at the first sign of the moths appearance and then wait for a possible infestation.

Interestingly, adult moths are not the ones who eat the carpets, and they do not live long. Your only goal is to reproduce as quickly as possible in order to preserve the species. We hope you find this guide helpful. We have a lot more posts on our blog about other types of insects. Dealing with carpet moth infestations and instructions on how to properly treat carpet moths. If you think that there might be a clothes moth invasion in your home, your first thought should be to act as fast as you can, carpet moths multiply very quickly, and with a short life cycle, you’ll be surprised at how many of them appear within short time.

Identifying carpet moths

The clothes belt moth also called a common moth, is very common in the United States and is the most widespread type in the country. Other types of insects are less common, however, they can be just as harmful to your carpets. You can see carrier moths in a pupal state, often attaching to the food source, i.e. their natural carpets. Smart! They are commonly found on the furniture, behind curtains, under couches, behind the TV, and in many other dark places.

To identify a carpet moth larvae look for the insects that have ¼ to ½ inches, are cream-colored, and have darker heads. Carpet moth eggs, which are white or off-white and usually fall onto the fabric or fibers of the carpets. You should know that carpet moths and storage moths are different insects, and consequently, they should be caught with different moth traps.

Carpet moths don’t really like to stay in the bedroom carpets, because there is not much food. They will prefer areas near the kitchen where food is stored. The larvae won’t eat the carpet but you may notice them on the carpet while they look for food.

Analyze how heavy is the carpet moth infestation

You can try special carpet moth traps, they will help to identify which problem you may be having. On the contrary to different species of moth, dangerous carpet moths like mostly quiet and dark places (they may be found living under the sofas, near the baseboards, and dark corners of the room). Place the traps in those places to catch the insects and identify them.

Sometimes it happens that infestation was not discovered for a while, and then the carpet can become threadbare. Moth traps are a great solution in such cases, they will also trap adult moths and prevent the growth of the new carpet moths in your rooms by removing male moths from the breeding cycle.

Areas of potential carpet damage: room edges and along skirting boards, under and behind furniture, in corners, and behind curtains along the floor are all possible hotspots for carpet moth activity. Watch out for possible overlaps between carpets and bedroom furniture, such as closets and dressers. Carpet moths do not lay eggs in high-traffic areas of your carpet, such as on the center of the floor, or in the middle of rooms or where you vacuum regularly. They will seek darker, quieter, and dustier places to lay their eggs in order to provide the larvae with plenty of food and to maximize the adult carpet moth’s chances of survival throughout the life cycle.

Clean up the places contaminated by carpet moths

Carpet moths like dust because it is rich in human hair, animal hair, and skin cells because they include keratin. You should vacuum clean under the furniture on a regular basis. Dust all the furniture regularly. Do you ever take out the blankets and carpets to shake and ventilate?

A thorough and regular home cleaning will help to reduce the risk of larvae infestation by carpet moths. In case carpet moths remain undetected for a long time, they can reproduce without being seen and of course, the moth larvae will cause the damage before you know it. When vacuuming, same as with ants, always empty the bag of your vacuum cleaner outside, tie it well and throw it into the trash to avoid the risk of carpet moth eggs or larvae being left in the house.

Stop the reproduction cycle

You can stop the breeding cycle by using the traps, they will help to prevent adult moths from laying eggs in your carpets. Or they will at least contain the problem and reduce the damage caused to the floors and textiles at home.

As I said above, it’s the larvae that cause most of the damage, because adult clothing moths don’t feed on the carpets. The eggs develop into the larvae, and the final stage is the carpet moths. Moths may have different lifespans based on temperature and humidity. Some carpet moth larvae can live up to 3 years (eat your home textiles!). In warmer areas, they can migrate from egg to pupa and become adults in a little over a month. In any case, given the larvae causing the main damage, they are the destroyers and dangerous to have in your home.

Eliminate carpet moths and also their eggs

Larvae of the carpet moths feed only on keratin, which is a protein made from natural animal fibers. They don’t usually choose chemically produced materials like polyester. Unfortunately, more expensive cloth textiles and furniture, as well as softer materials, are most at risk. Larvae like eating wool rugs, wool or cashmere blankets, curtains made of silk, wool sofas, or leather. Unfortunately, moth eggs are hard to notice, they’re small, but you can notice some larvae appearing before they develop and grow into the adult moths.

Treating carpet moths is the best guarantee. You can really treat the infested pests and kill carpet moth eggs as well as larvae. It’s good to use both spray and powder, they will leave effective residual protection within two weeks. Severe and persistent intrusions may need to be reapplied. If you want to use our mothproof kits on natural carpets, I definitely recommend that you use them multiple times, and each kit size has enough use.

Keratine in fur, hair and food dust will attract moths into your carpets-carpets and curtains need to be cleaned regularly and thoroughly cleaned regularly-dust can accumulate throughout the year even if it is not very serious, can be very large, and immediately visible. Take the pillow off the sofa and clean it underneath-you will be surprised by the other items you may find there.

Products that Kill Carpet Moths

You can purchase moth papers, to entice the adults and prevent them from laying further eggs if they’re found in your house already.

Install a moth trap inside the house so you can hold a watch out and screen for any destiny activity. The intention is to interrupt the breeding cycle of the moth laying greater eggs and beginning the cycle throughout again.

Insecticide sprays, the repeated remedy will assist eliminate the moth infestation.

When we say broadloom carpet, it usually means any type of carpet woven on a very wide loom. These carpets have obvious advantages when making carpets in large spaces because they can be laid seamlessly. Compared with woven carpets made on narrower looms, broadloom carpets also have advantages in size.

Many carpet shops offer this type of carpet for people who prefer them. Made on a wide loom, it usually means that the tufted carpet is laid from one side to the other. Broadloom carpets are sold in standard roll widths. They are usually created 12 feet wide, but can also be 15 feet or 13 feet 6 inches wide. Historically, carpets were woven on looms by hand, so the term “wide loom” literally means a loom that is wider than ordinary looms. They are one of my favorite options because broadloom carpets have much better fluffiness compared to carpet tiles, and look more natural.

What Is a Loom Device?

A loom is a device used to weave fabrics. When weaving by hand, it fixes the fibers moving in one direction in place so that the fibers moving in the opposite direction can be knitted together. Carpet weavers create long and wide rolls and place them on a semi-support base. It is important to note that at the time of delivery to home, the rolled broadloom carpet must be stacked flat in an empty space to ensure that all rolls can be aligned so that the template matches and there is no error. It should also be placed in the room 24 hours in advance, and then you can continue to install it.

Broadloom carpets can be cut pile or loop pile. Installing broadloom carpets requires careful planning because the location of the seams is critical to get the best results. Wherever it’s possible, seams must run perpendicular to the primary light source.

Some further points to keep in mind are:

Seams should be kept as small as possible.

The seam should pass through the gap longitudinally.

The main foot traffic must follow the seams, not through the seams.

Seams should be avoided in the area of high foot traffic. The seam should not be perpendicular to the door.

Pros and Cons of Broadloom Carpet

The traditional and even more popular choice for corporate floors, broadloom offers many design options including patterns, colors, and even mosaics – almost limitless aesthetic possibilities. Apart from a few small disadvantages. The high-quality broadloom fabric with moisture backing offers excellent stain resistance and the seams can be well covered by chemical welding. Certain broadloom carpets can be used with the appropriate base material to create a softer, softer feel than carpet. In general, you will find that these carpets are cheaper than carpet tiles.

While the broadloom carpet has many advantages, it also has some disadvantages. First, there is waste during installation because of the need to cut large pieces. In particular, the cost of unnecessary or unused material can outweigh the unit price savings. It has to be installed using a carpet seaming iron. Second, it is difficult, time-consuming, and expensive to repair. If an area is irreversibly damaged by moisture or mold, all of the carpet in one section must be removed and reinstalled to completely repair it.

Despite the perhaps common name, “wall to wall” broadloom carpet does not necessarily have to cover the entire room. It can easily be installed in just one area and integrated into another carpet or floor. Wall-to-wall carpets are more difficult and expensive to install than their counterpart to carpet tiles, but they are characterized by quality and variety of designs. Especially if you are considering bespoke carpets, wall-to-wall is superior. Due to the seamless surface, only the interior and your imagination are the limits. The thick carpet backing and yarn options also mean broadloom carpets can offer a certain level of luxurious comfort that is difficult to reproduce with pre-made carpet tiles.

Why and when should you choose broadloom carpeting?

In projects with high design ambitions or in large rooms, carpeting more than compensates for its shortcomings. While broadloom means more waste, higher costs, and more complicated installation, it also means an unmatched variety of designs, a soft, luxurious feel underfoot, and a seamless, stunning finish.
