This week, the Sunday Slackin’ Podcast helps you gear up for next weekends Movement Festival in Detroit with an exclusive mix from Dantiez Saunderson, who also celebrates his debut release on First Step Records this month.

We couldn’t think of a better way to get ready for 3 days of Techno and dancing than to bring you a mix delivered from the younger Saunderson, a name that is synonymous with Detroit, the festival and its origins from the beginning of it all – with Kevin Saunderson helping found the event, eventually passing the torch to Paxahau in 2006 when DEMF became “Movement”.

We are also excited to be welcoming back Nightsneak Entertainment in Detroit this Memorial Day Weekened…they host the Dirtybird Players Afterparty at the Filmore on Saturday night!

As one of three children, Dantiez was born and bred in Michigan and is the middle son of Recording Artist (and techno pioneer) Kevin Saunderson and Singer/Songwriter Ann Saunderson. So you would imagine that it was a ‘given’ that Dantiez was automatically going to establish a career for himself in the music industry. However, you would be sadly mistaken…

It wasn’t to be until 2012, at the age of 20 that Dantiez decided to take a plunder into the music industry. He realised that music was the way to go for him, when he saw the change in electronic music and how his generation (as a whole) were starting to interact with the music, so much more.

Not only has he immersed himself into producing music, but he has stepped into the world of djing. Although his inspiration to dj was by watching the likes of the three ‘Originators of Techno’ (namely Derrick May, Juan Atkins and of course his own Dad, Kevin Saunderson), he has also been influenced by DJs such as Marco Carolo (from Italy) and Seth Troxler, (Seth is one of the new generation of DJs, currently riding high and co-incidentally, he’s also from Michigan).
His productions reflect all sides of his personality (depending on his mood and the time of day) and for anyone who knows Dantiez.. that would certainly be a true assessment. His influences are definitely infused with Detroit, although his productions are energetic. He’s found a nice balance between underground infused with a pop vibe…mixed with a touch of tech house and techno. “No doubt my father was a huge influence. Watching him in the studio, when I was growing up, was amazing and obviously my mother has been a big influence also. I listened to “Spastik” by Plastikman (aka Richie Hawtin) and I still really love that track. I’m also into Dubfire (formerly one half of Deep Dish) and Oliver Hunttington. However, my early influences would most definitely be Hip Hop, so artists such as Eminem (“Cleaning Out My Closet” was a favourite track), Timberland and his productions; for instance “Lose Control” by Missy Elliott and Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River” and the list goes on…”

“Undergo” will be Dantiez’s debut release (co written and co produced by Kevin Castro). It will be released on First Step Records, a UK label (and a subsidiary of Endemic Digital), in May 2013.

This young man knows where he’s going and as he says “music is my life (just as it is with my Mother and Father), so the sky’s the limit… Ultimately, I wish to travel the world and share my music and good vibes with others. Just being able to do that is rewarding enough”.

Early March in the midwest is already packed with a sense of anticipation. Spring is quite often in the air, after what usually is a long and quite schizephrenic winter, filled with sporadic bits of sunshine packed around serious cold spouts and sometimes aggressive winter weather. It’s COLD & GREY out there, to put it another way.

By the time March arrives, spring is around the corner. Sunshine isn’t such a stranger, and half the days you can feel the warm air on the way. The midwest wakes up and stretches, ready for its rebirth. It also brings us the annual edition of Blindfire Entertainment’s Psychotonic series (click for event page)- this year marking the 7th installment of what has become one of the biggest events in St. Louis, and indeed, this part of the country.

Each year at Psychotronic – you can expect top notch production, from the multiple Turbosound rigs, intelligent lighting being controlled on the fly , right down to a venue featuring customized and themed decor. What’s best perhaps is the reputation around the Psycho-series for a lineup that always has its pulse of what’s hot right now across the world in Electornic Dance Music. This isn’t your club night at home – typically featuring only one style (maybe two) of dance music. Psychotronic events feature almost every workable genre in dance music, and this year is no exception.

Bass Music has swept over dance music culture the last several years, and as the audience and its influences mature – we hear styles of dubstep and other bass music sub-genres mature as well. From that have emerged producers and DJ’s that are continuing to help it all evolve – and a few of those maestros are headlining this years lineup:

DOWNLINK - A regular on Rotten Records (Excision is the label boss) with roots in D&B and Jungle , DOWNLINK most recently gained worldwide recognition for his production role on nu-rock legends Korn’s 10th studio album. After mixing that album, he then continued on a worldwide tour with Korn, leaving massive audiences frenzied with his energetic performances. Expect the unexpected!

SCHOOLBOY - Another emerging dubstep superstar – also on Rotten, along with SubHuman , both at the top of the label heap in Bass Music – Schoolboy has gained a ton of exposure recently for his work with SMH & Knife party, with a resulting tour as well as being charted by all the bass music Megastars – Skrillex, Excision, etc. His remix work has also been featured and sits along the cutting edge of the future of bass music.

STUNNA – Longtime Chicago Musician turned D&B producer, Stunna is quickly rising the ranks of bass music fame, and brings his unique take on Drum & Bass to St. Louis again!

MIDWEST GETS FIRST GLANCE AT LONGTIME DIRTYBIRD ARTIST WORTHY

St. Louis has always been a dirtybird town, and with local all-star and Blindfire Entertainment co-founder Undertow (Brandon Spraul) always providing dirtybird infused sets, the excitement of welcoming longtime DB artist WORTHY is at a fever pitch. While not as recognizable a name as Justin Martin or Claude VonStroke - any DB enthusiast can tell you that Worthy is quite simply that – worthy of being on the label for the last 8 years as well as worthy of the excitement around his first St. Louis performance. To get you ready – here are some videos and tunes!!

Not to be forgotten, Psychotronic 7 will also feature regional and local talent, headlined by Matt Rissi, a brilliant up and coming techno producer from Iowa, as well as a must-see B2B tag set from Unkle Funk and Tommy Gunns – as “Funky Gunns”.

This week we welcome back the Disco Aliens’ very own Obitykenobi with another Sunday Slackin exclusive mix! This is Ty’s 3rd episode and we are happy to have him back with the Techno groove that has come to be indicative of his style. He has also been on the show with other collaborations such as ChrisTy E.R.O.T.K. and is also working with the guys on a much anticipated Disco Aliens mix for the show later this year.

Ty has been traveling a lot this Winter doing events such as Art Basel in Miami and also has begun his networking with colleagues on the West Coast as he continues to expand his horizons and continue his evolution as a DJ and as a Producer. This mix highlights his exquisite taste in dancefloor ready techno and tech house grooves, sure to be easy on the ear and dance-floor ready.

For more, check out Ty on his Facebook page HERE or follow the Disco Aliens HERE.

Learn the WHOLE story……

Originally from Indiana, but now calling Dallas home, J. Caprice has emerged as one of the most exciting producers and DJ’s on the international house music front! A seasoned vet behind the decks, J. Caprice has been spinning since 1996 and has gone on to share the decks with the biggest names in the game, performing all over the country in cities such as Miami, Chicago, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Houston, Portland, Lexington, Kansas City, Denver & Omaha. He has gone on to string together an impressive list of full EP releases on labels such as Midwest Hustle, Dustpan, Native Soul, Big Wheel, Union, 6th Sense, Kinjo, & Gourmand as well as numerous remix projects and one off sampler tracks. In 2008, J teamed up with good friend and fellow DJ/producer 4peace and formed the tandem known to the world as High Maintenance, adding even more labels to his stable such as Digi Funk, Junky Trunk, Shak Digital, Hu Hu, Ficus Tree, Greenhouse, Serial Sickness, Illuminati, and Cotopaxi! As both J. Caprice and part of High Maintenance, he has had his music charted by the likes of Jason Hodges, Smokingroove, Mes, & Tommy Largo and has seen several tracks climb into top 100 record store charts. When he isn’t out rocking dancefloors or in the studio making beats, you can find J. Caprice helping to co-run the label Juiced Music which has quickly established itself as one of the most successful and respected labels in underground house having scored a multitude of chart topping hits on nearly every release by artists such as Wattie Green, South Of Roosevelt, Jeff Service, JR From Dallas, and Scrubfish, as well as his own project label Home Again Recordings Digital (H.A.R.D.)! As if that wasn’t enough, you can also catch his highly touted mix show, “J. Caprice – Live @ Juiced Studios”, which airs every Friday. from 5-7pm CDT on WWW.CHICAGOHOUSEFM.COM sponsored by Stompy.com . In a business where most artists are a here today, gone tomorrow act, J. Caprice is quickly proving he’s here to stay for the long haul. With a sound that continues to mature with each release, there is no telling how bright his star will eventually shine!

Episode 37 of the Sunday Slackin’ Podcast features FIRECAT 451 with melodic and compelling track selections…. Comprised of new and classic choons, this mix is about feeling good and taking it (somewhat) easy.

Will Ellis (Firecat 451) is one of the hardest working DJ’s & producers in the midwest, always involved both behind the scenes and under the bright lights. Read below to learn more about FIrecat 451 – or check out his FACEBOOK & SOUNDCLOUD pages!

DUBSTEP. DRUM & BASS. HOUSE -

In DJ mode, Firecat 451 brings aggressive bangers to the dubstep arena with exclusive tracks, live remixes and original vocals performed live. Also on the table are impressive blends of jazzy and jackin’ house music with tasteful notes of international flavor. Dance floors will rattle and clubbers will be lushly rewarded with perfectly chosen grooves. Firecat 451’s original love is Drum & Bass, in this mode, breakers, b-boys, and those who represent can’t help but to come front and center and show respect for the diligence and wicked track selection.

WHO’S THE MC??? Add a microphone, wireless or otherwise and the party is off the chain. The vocals here are dynamic. Intricate swings between American street poetry and singing chorus’ reminiscent of Seal and Bob Marley. The plan is complete when Firecat 451 introduces original tracks into his mixes some of which are written especially for events. Currently, Firecat is touring with the dubstep duo Royal Sound System.

ChrisTy E.R.O.T.K. is a side project that has been in the works for many years as formed by Chris Mindel and Tyrohn Brooks.

The two have formed a unique middle ground to the genre’s they normally perform with the Disco Aliens or in solo appearances. A blend of progressive beats and smooth melodies, combined with subtly complex drum beats gives off a vibe that is fitting for the Slackin’ podcast.

The two usually just keep to the production end under this name……but have been known to do a few shows around the midwest USA…. so if you see them in your area, check it out……4 decks of mixing and blending, and its a rare thing – so don’t miss it.

Check out more from Chris and Ty by following the Disco Aliens on Facebook, or check out Transplant Music Group – with Transplant Recordings and Spoiled Rotten Records, for releases and more – or on Soundcloud here.
