DJ Hero Is Highest Grossing New IP

Although there has been a lot of talk about how DJ Hero supposedly did poorly (mostly from people hoping for it to fail), Activision has announced that DJ Hero was the #1 new intellectual property by revenue in the US and Europe for calendar 2009.

“DJ Hero has transformed music gaming by marrying an innovative turntable controller and exhilarating gameplay with the biggest artists and incredible music from around the world,” said Robert Kotick, CEO, Activision Blizzard. “Consumers and critics agree that DJ Hero is one of the best music games ever created and further establishes Guitar Hero as the premier franchise of its kind.”

Granted, this speaks to revenue only (not unit sales or profit), but regardless, DJ Hero is clearly on its way to becoming an established annual franchise from Activision.

When asked what he thinks about DJ Hero, DJ Guetta had this to say.

â€œI think it’s amazing, this game, and I’m going to work on the No. 2 version,â€ Guetta says. â€œIt’s a really crazy game. After 10 minutes, you get the rush that a DJ gets after 10 years of practising. I have fun with it, but you know what? I can’t go to the maximum level. It’s too difficult for me. It’s crazy.â€

The DJ Hero controller is now available for purchase as a standalone product. The turnable controllers retail for $69.99 for the Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, and Nintendo Wii.
