In addition, attendees can participate in advance by logging on to www.thesoulpitt.com to register to submit a song request for our old school countdown and to be a contestant on "The Soul Roll" (The Black Wheel of Fortune game) and test their knowledge on Black Music Trivia for their chance to win great gifts and prizes.

London—April 25^th, 2008

Reggae label Greensleeves Records & Publishing announced that it just signed reggae-dancehall sensations Busy Signal and Gyptian, and hit-makers Shane “Jukeboxx” Brown and Llamar “Riff Raff” Brown (no relation) who are currently dominating the reggae and dancehall charts worldwide.

Hot dancehall artist Busy Signal has signed off a multiple album and publishing deal t this week. The hype dancehall artist, enjoying huge chart success worldwide with his current hits “Jail” and “Wine Pon Di Edge” made his indelible mark in dancehall with his breakout single, the anthem Step Out in 2005. He subsequently released his debut album of the same title on Greensleeves Records in 2006. This latest deal was brokered by his manager and producer Shane C. Brown of Juke Boxx Productions who is currently working with him on his forthcoming album due for release in 2008 on Greensleeves Records. Busy Signal commented on the deal: “I am happy to put out my next album on Greensleeves and to know that a company is going to look after my publishing interests worldwide”.

Reggae singer Gyptian also signed a publishing agreement with Greensleeves Publishing’s American affiliate STB Music. Gyptian broke through with his debut album My Name Is Gyptian released by VP Records in 2006 and which contained the hit singles “Mama”, “Serious Times” and “Beautiful Lady”. Gyptian is slated to release his new album I Can Feel Your Pain on VP Records this summer.

Shane Brown, the multi-talented and hot producer behind the recent hits such as Morgan Heritage’s “Brooklyn & Jamaica” and more recently Demarco’s “Better Jamaica” has also inked a deal with the company’s publishing arm. Shane says of the deal: “Both Busy and I have had a relationship with the label in the past. They released my Klymaxx rhythm as part of their Rhythm Album series and Greensleeves also put out Busy’s debut album Step Out. They are the leading reggae music publisher in the world and we hope it will be a boost to both mine and Busy’s career”. Shane is currently enjoying huge success with his Warning rhythm featuring dancehall slammers from Busy Signal, Mavado, Bounty Killer and Demarco to name a few and he is already coming up with the Trenches rhythm. He also produced a track called “We Set The Pace” on Foxy Brown’s upcoming album Brooklyn’s Don Diva to be released by Koch Records this summer.

Greensleeves Publishing also signed the young producer Llamar “Riff Raff” Brown. The 21 year old has recently been working with the top reggae artists producing tracks for Morgan Heritage’s new album “Mission In Progress” and Richie Spice’s new album “Gideon Boot” and upcoming albums by Beenie Man, Gyptian, Etana (the hit singles “Live & Love Life” and “I Am Not Afraid” from her upcoming album “The Strong One”). Llamar said “I am very excited about my new venture with Greensleeves Music Publishing. I am certain that the future with myself and Greensleeves Records holds endless possibilities and I am honored to be a part of the family." Llamar also co-produced the 83 Rhythm (Greensleeves Records) and Rub A Dub rhythm (VP Records) with Kemar “Flava” McGregor.

Olivier Chastan, President of Greensleeves, added: “These signings show that Greensleeves is here to stay, and I intend for Greensleeves to remain the leading reggae music publisher in the world.”

The iconic label and publisher celebrated 30 years at the cutting edge of reggae and dancehall music in 2007. The first album released by the label in 1977, Dr Alimantado’s “Best Dressed Chicken In Town”, is now considered a seminal reggae classic. Greensleeves also launched the careers of Shaggy with the crossover hit “Oh Carolina” (a No. 1 pop single) and Mr. Vegas’ “Heads High”, (MOBO Award). The label was also behind the crossover success of Beenie Man’s anthemic “Who Am I” and the phenomenal “Diwali” rhythm which garnered a slew of hits from Sean Paul “Get Busy” to Wayne Wonder “No Letting Go”. RCMP Raid Shuts Down Massive Alleged Music Counterfeiting Operation in Winnipeg, Following Investigation by Canadian Recording Industry Association

Police file criminal charges against four people and seize more than 200,000 music CDs and DVDs

Toronto, March 6, 2008 – Following a year-long investigation by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA), the RCMP has shut down Audiomaxxx.com Ltd., a major alleged music counterfeiting operation in Winnipeg, and filed criminal charges against four individuals.

Raj Singh Ramgotra, the principal behind Audiomaxxx, was among those arrested during a raid yesterday at the organization, which for three years has allegedly manufactured pirated compact discs and hard core pornographic videos, and distributed them throughout Canada, the U.S., Europe and Jamaica. More recently, Audiomaxxx’s offerings have also included allegedly pirated digital downloads.

In addition to the arrests, police seized an enormous volume of suspected counterfeit goods. This includes more than 200,000 music CDs and DVDs, numerous movie DVDs and hundreds of thousands of blank discs. Police also seized five CD/DVD burning towers, each with 12 burners, which together are capable of burning well in excess of 10,000 CDs and DVDs a day. The raid also netted several computers and hard drives, two commercial CD printers, four colour copiers and other office equipment.

In the past 10 years, the raid closest in scale to the action against Audiomaxxx involved the seizure of about 10,000 counterfeit music CDs and DVDs – one-twentieth the volume netted yesterday.

More than 10 police officers were involved in yesterday’s raid.

“We sincerely thank the RCMP officers who have worked so hard to bring Audiomaxxx to heel, and to the federal prosecutors who have worked closely with them,” said Graham Henderson, President of the Canadian Recording Industry Association. “Today’s arrests send out a clear message that commercial piracy will no longer be tolerated in Canada.”

Audiomaxxx is suspected of being one of Canada’s leading music counterfeiters. In Toronto alone, approximately 30 percent of the pirated CDs seized allegedly originate from the operation. CRIA estimates that, at minimum, Audiomaxxx has been shipping tens of thousands of allegedly pirated CDs each month.

CRIA has received dozens of complaints concerning the operation from artists, music associations and music labels around the world, including numerous small, independent labels. In the past, when faced with demands by rights holders to cease its activities, Audiomaxxx has consistently ignored the demands or failed to fully comply.

The operation appears to be highly developed, with a significant catalogue of allegedly pirated CDs and music downloads offered for sale via the website www.audiomaxxx.com, including copies of tracks by famous artists like Shania Twain, Lionel Richie, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige and Nelly Furtado.

“The RCMP has again demonstrated that it stands side by side with artists and rights holders in the fight against intellectual property crime,” said Randy Lennox, President and CEO of Universal Music Canada Ltd. and Chairman of CRIA. “CRIA has a longstanding partnership with the RCMP and other police forces in fighting piracy, and today we have taken a big step together to stop one of the most flagrant examples of its kind in Canada.”

Audiomaxxx's alleged piracy affects not just famous artists, but also new and independent artists - largely in the reggae, soca and hip-hop community - who are struggling to build careers. For example, Vancouver’s Utopia Records, one of the many independent labels to voice concerns, has seen new artist albums appear on the Audiomaxxx website on the day an album is released in stores or even before the legitimate launch date.

“The harm done by music piracy is especially troubling when it undermines a promising artist's burgeoning career,” Henderson said. “We will continue to work with police and lawmakers to give these artists, and the organizations behind them, the opportunity to succeed.”

CRIA began investigating Audiomaxxx as part of an ongoing program to deter music counterfeiting and piracy. The operation came to CRIA’s attention because of the large volume of suspected counterfeit products openly offered for sale on the Internet and the owner’s failure to stop selling these products after the issuance of cease-and-desist orders.

Since CRIA began dedicated anti-counterfeiting operations more than a year ago, the association and police have seized more than 400,000 CDs and issued 80 cease-and-desist orders against retailers of illicitly copied music.

The Impact of Piracy and Counterfeiting on Canadian Artists and Rights Holders

Piracy and counterfeiting exact a steep toll on artists and rights holders in Canada. This is reflected in significant music sales declines since the advent of widespread unauthorized file-swapping in 1999 and the proliferation of CD and music DVD counterfeiting in recent years. In that time, retail sales of pre-recorded audio products (CDs, digital tracks, etc.) declined by 47 percent, from $1.3 billion in 1999 to $703.7 million in 2006.

For the 11 months ended November 2007, net wholesale shipments of CDs, music DVDs, and other “physical” recorded music formats dropped 16 percent to 37.9 million units from 45.1 million units in the year-earlier period, while the related net wholesale value dropped 20 percent to $382.4 million from $476.3 million.

A 2007 national POLLARA survey found that purchases of counterfeit goods such as music CDs displace legitimate commerce. About half of those who bought counterfeit music, movies or software would have purchased the genuine version had they not purchased a copy (for music, the figure was 43 percent; movies, 45 percent; and software, 44 percent).

Element 9 has announced the contest will run through September. However, many artists will see perks along the way. SMC Recordings plans to offer select entrants a chance to appear as featured artists on their upcoming releases. Additionally, Element 9.0 will provide free online marketing services to aid potential Element 9 artists. The exact terms of a potential record deal are not being disclosed at this time to assure more flexibility for all parties. According to Pflaum, “the open-ended nature of the opportunity serves the best interest of the artists by not putting a public price tag on display, and at the same time assures the stakes will rise for the artists based on how fierce the competition gets.”

Dancehall's most controversial and consistent entertainer, Moses 'Beenie Man' Davis more popularly referred to as the 'Doctor' had something to be extremely happy about on Thursday, February 7, when he copped three coveted awards at the 4th annual Excellence in Music & Entertainment (EME) Awards at the at Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica.
The versatile dancehall icon who was last year plagued with a number of unfortunate incidents, proved beyond doubt that he is not an artiste who is going to make problems kick him off track. With the overwhelming support from fans, loyal family, friends in the music business and a good public relations manager, Beenie Man for the 11th time was named 'Deejay of the Year' for 2007.
Beenie Man also walked away the winner of 'Song of the Year' – 'Back It Up'. In the category for Best Collaboration he was the only artiste to have two songs 'Dreaming Of You' with Alaine and 'Give It Up To Me' with Barbee up for award.
It was however, the collaboration between him and Barbee 'Give it Up' that emerged the winner.
Not only was Beenie Man a real big winner, but also his Khool International publicist Ray Alexander whose publicity firms handles singer Da'Ville who captured the award for 'Best Collaboration Of The Year' for big hit 'Always On My Mind ' remix featuring Sean Paul.
Barbee also came in a winner for the category 'Best New Female Artiste of the Year' making it a total of three for Khool International.

Elephant Man is excited about his major label joint venture (Bad Boy/VP Records) and looking forward to making dancehall history with Sean “Diddy” Combs and the entire Bad Boy family. “I been a fan of Bad Boy for the longest time and now I’m Bad Boy for life!,” Ele laughs. “We gonna take dancehall to another level.”

On Let’s Get Physical, Elephant Man fuses party tunes with lyrics that speak of the social ills and violence plaguing the people of Jamaica. His notorious dance anthems cascade throughout the record. “With the Bad Boy production and promotion teams, together with the Energy God…It’s gonna be madness” says Elephant Man.

Walkman Cassette Player!

Just now, on the bus, I saw someone with a walkman cassette player. Now
that's gangster, lol! Die hard music fan right there! That's like me
walking into someone's crib and they have a big ass laser disc player
instead of a blue-ray DVD player.

I wonder how many of us would be willing to resort to primative media
players if our newer devices ever failed. Hard drives can crash and
accidents do happen.
