New-ish Track

Hi all,

Yes I know its been a while since I've updated. Haven't really done much tbh.

Min on Fri sent me a message to try and help her out with a track. TBBH, it was actually quite good. But, me being me, I decided to tweek it abit.

She was thinking of having a soundtrack to her fanfics so I decided to help her out..

So find below, Lost Innocence (RevX Mix)

<lj-embed id="8" />

I also thought that this track went extremely well with this pic.

By revelationx

Enjoy!

Work has been getting to me and I have not been able to practice as much as I really want.

In any case.. I still have been...

So far getting better I think.. though nothing to show for it.. Marginal improvements.

I really like playing around with the tracks more...

I'm getting the hang of getting the pitch slider right... but as I said marginal improvements

at least I've got My Secret Mind!

PraCtiCe ThE MiX~

Eureka!

I have produced my first Mash Up.. in some sense I guess.

This Mash Up is called My Secret Mind

Tunes are:
Megara Vs. DJ Lee - Blow the Mind (140)
and
Marc Korn Vs. San Danielle - Secret of You (140)

I think its pretty good.. Also I've added a RevX Mash Up Intro. Mind you.. I recorded it and played with the pitch.. so that it doesn't sound like me..

<lj-embed id="3" />
If you want a copy, I'll send you a link.

If you have any comments, please do leave them below!

'Til Next Time!
Practice the MiX

First Major Step

I've done it!

No.. I've not come up with a set yet... but.. I've gotten 2 songs to play back to back.!

Ok... I kinda cheated.. I've cancelled the base on the first track.. and used the base (on a loop) from another track. As you probably can hear, it was rather messy to an extent.. my beatmatching still needs some work..

in fact, some parts feel bad.. but I guess you can hear that I've only done this for like a couple of weeks!

Also, please excuse the bad effects, I was playing with the knobs... didn't turn out that well :S

Tune Practiced on:
4 Clubbers Feat. Silvy - Time
BPM: 140(7A)
&
Jamaster-A - Bells of Tiananmen
BPM: 140(7A)

I'll try and find a way to upload it some where!.. might have to podcast it then :S

Until Next Time!
Practice the MiX

Practice Makes Some Progress

Progress has been slow. Did not have a chance to mix yest, only coz I was not feeling too well. Listening to some chilled tracks was pretty good.

I was playing with a couple of toons today. All of which are from Armin van Buuren's Trance Number Ones. Some transititions weren't that bad.. as in.. Podcastable.. but some were just pure rubbish. I so need to get more tunes in my head...

I mean, its getting better.... I move the pitch slide and it gets in beat... then like 8 bars later.. it screws up. I then to make up and go for broke and keep in it beat until the next toon comes in. Is that bad?

Until Next Time!
PraCtiCe ThE MiX

BeatMatching Lesson 2 - Trying Something Different

Hey,

Today, I decided to try something abit different. Instead of trying to sync from the first second of the song, I cued the right deck to the first heavy beat and let the left deck be as it is (on auto cue)

Tune Practiced on:
Daft Punk - AeroDynamic
BPM: 123 (10B)

This time, since I know approx when the beat will come in... I tried to sync it that way. Getting the right deck to catch up was a rather easy thing...that because the tempo is at its original. So the next thing I tried was to bring the right deck and sync it with a slower left deck. That means.. what I had done before, but the left deck is slower.

This time.. not soo easy... took me almost the whole song at first.. but it got better and better with each try. I think I managed to keep it to 1 min or so.. (ok.. maybe 1 min 30 sec).

I'll keep practicing and hopefully I'll be able to get some tips on getting 2 (different) songs beatmatched!

Until next time!
PractiCe thE MiX

BeatMatching Lesson 1 - Practice

Hey guys!

Was remembering what I watched on DJTutor a while back. Trying to beatmatch touching the platter. Thought it was a good way to start to practice beatmatching and pitch sliding!

Tune Practiced on:
Basement Jaxx - Where's Your Head At
BPM: 128 (8B)

I started off the right first and about 10 seconds later (or when appropriate) I added the left. I mean the song is like 4mins 2secs and it took me a total of about almost 2mins 30secs to get it synced. The first 2mins or so is just me speeding up the track on the left to catch up with the right. When the track(s) stopped, it said that the difference in timing was 6 frames. Mind you this was done purely by ear.

If you can't stand music that is not in sync, this might not be the practice audio for you; it might irritate the hell outta ya! If you have the patience to hang on a while, you might be able to reach the end where it does sound a bit better.

Will add the link soon!

Until next time
Mix it Up!

First Spin

After I've spent some time getting to know my decks... I'll write more later about my decks!

I thought I'd move on.. well sort off..
Got an Auto BPM analyser. I'm going to get another one off Nathanal soon and we'll compare. I'll see if its any different.

I've tried to mix 2 songs. Mind you the songs are the same. I was reading somewhere that it was kinda good practice on the pitch slide. So I did.

Tune Practiced on:
Basement Jaxx - Jump and Shout
BPM: 126 (according the the MM BPM Analyser)

I kinda cheated.. I used other markers other than the bass line. Thats bad. I think I might need to practice on just beats. That went rather well. I looped the songs and tried to get one to cath up with the other. It happened. So I'm pretty happy with that.

I'm going to try this again tomorrow and a couple more times with other tracks and I will report how I do. I might try mixing 2 songs.. but maybe next week!

Please remember that you can comment on my posts, ask questions.. all that!

Until next time,
Mix it up!

Equipment Procured!

After 6mths of futzing around and getting a job... I've finally gotten my equipment.

I went down to SimLim... where Merdeka Audio, Performance Audio and HinHuat are.. wanting to sort of price compare.. that is until Philip (HinHuat) messaged me back on the price of the new(er) Stanton C.324s and the SA3. To be honest, I thought that it was steep.. but look at this.. for SGD $2,500, (or about 961 quid) I got...

2 x Stanton C.324 Digital CD Turntable
1 x Stanton SA3 Scratch Mixer
1 x Carrying Case w/ Padding
1 x Case Stand
1 x Stanton DJ Pro 3000 Headphones
-- All cables connecting CD player to Mixer

I thought that the price was rather alright. I think the C.324s were made to target the CDJ-800 market.. So, if you price compare, the C.324s are definitely much cheaper.

I'll be adding a post about my first look at the C.324s. You know what, I might do even videos...

Until next time.
Mix it up!

Equipment - Spinning 2 Where?

Hi all DJ RevX here.

I started this blog in anticipation of me actually getting some nice decks as I want to get into DJ-ing. So, until then, I can't actually call myself a DJ can I?

Anyway, I've been seaching around the net and been seeking some advise on the types of equpiment for n00bs like me (and for anyone else out there). First, a site that has been really useful to me has been DJTutor. Watch his youtube videos to have a taste of what one might expect from DJ-ing. Next, you'll need to make a choice, Vinyls, Mp3s or CDs. I'm no expert, but friends have hinted to me that I should be using CDJs as I intend to spin CDs.

Got all of that? Yes? Cool, next up.. What brands?

I've been told that most clubs use Pioneer ProDJ equpiment and I think I might be getting an entry-level CDJ 200 or the new CDJ 400. BUT.. cost is always a factor and Pioneer equpiment is not always cheap. Another brand that has been recommended to me is Denon. So check them out and try them.. see what fits your budget and your style.

This is as much a summary of what I have gathered from 4 weeks of looking around the internet, watching videos and asking around.

Until next time,
Cheers!
