Within the frame of the gallery weekend in Berlin, DLD celebrated the opening of About Change Collection’s second run “Chapter One”, on 1st May 2008.

Collection owner Christiane zu Salm (Burda’s CEO of Crossmedia) as well as DLD-hosts Steffi Czerny and Marcel Reichart welcomed about 80 old and new DLD-friends, artists, collectors, Berlin VIP’s and business leaders to this exclusive reception. Amongst them were e.g. Universal Music Groups’ CEO Frank Briegmann, who was a speaker at DLD08, Carson Chan (Program), Andrea Dibelius, Michaela Neumeister (Philips de Pury), Till Weishaupt (Cicero) or Jörg Koch (032c).

On July 3rd, the convention for successful business on the web will take place in Hamburg, SIDE Hotel. DLD is partner of W&V (werben & verkaufen), initiator of the congress. The title of the event is “Be challenged: Digital Media”. Top-class managers will speak about the chances and challenges of digital marketing and online-business. Amongst others Scott Schiller, Senior Vice President of Glam Media, Dr. Erich Joachimsthaler, founder and CEO of Vivaldi Partners, Sven Markschläger, Head of Digital Marketing of Mast-Jägermeister, and Dr. Dimitrios Argirakos, Chief of Future and Innovation Department of the WAZ-Group, will give key notes, discuss and comment the newest developments of Digital Media. The DLD team will be represented by Dr. Marc Mangold and Rupert Schäfer. Everybody can register for the congress, the participation fee is 890 euros. DLD is partnering FACEBOOK DEVELOPER GARAGE

On May 14th, Germany’s first facebook developer garage will take place in Hamburg. As Special guest Vice President of facebook and DLD-speaker Matt Cohler will be present. Keynotes will be held amongst others by Steve Rubel and DLD-speaker Marc Samwer. DLD is partnering the premiere. SELLABAND ENTERS USA

A financial support by Prime Technology Ventures shall enable SellaBand, a german company with domicile in the Netherlands, to expand to the US market. Founded in 2006 the company already opened an office in New York. Since last year SellaBand already cooperates with Amazon UK. DLD-speaker Pim Betist and the co-founders Dagmar Heijmans and Johan Vosmeijer created a new way to support young music-bands.

On Saturday May 10, Pangea Day is taking place (11am-3pm US West Coast, 2-6pm US East Coast, 7-11pm in UK, 8pm-midnight in Europe and much of Africa, 9pm-1am in the Mideast, 11.30pm-3.30am India, etc.). Pangea Day is a worldwide community event, which will be supported by countless people around the world. CEO of Pangea Day is DLD-speaker Delia Cohen.

Philippe Starck could be called a super nomad. Well perhaps he would see himself this way. When I read about his lifestyle this weekend in ParisMatch, I thought so. He tells there how he permanently travels around the globe for his projects, the Baccarat in Moscow, the Le Lan in Bejing or designing a new eco-friendly and almost invisible superjacht.

Ulla-Maaria Mutanen, founder of Thinglink, a Wikipedia for design, and Jyri Engeström, founder of the mobile internet company Jaiku and speaker at DLD06, celebrated their wedding in Finland. Congratulations from the DLD-Team and all the best on your journey together! But, the two creative heads didn’t marry like Jane and Joe Doe, respectively Matti and Maija Meikäläinen – they made their most beautiful day to be a highlight of excellent design.

Wikia got Chip Award

CHIP, the magazine for the digital world, awarded Jimmy Wales. At CeBIT, the world’s largest computer expo, one of six CHIP Awards was given to Wikia Search, founded by the father of Wikipedia. At DLD08, Jimmy Wales and Jason Calacanis from Mahalo were already explaining the advantages of non-algorithmic search engines.

Glam Media

Last week a round financing of Glam Media was announced, in which Burda takes a holding. Samir Arora, CEO and founder of Glam has presented at DLD, and in the past weeks we have elaborated the acquisition. With over 44 Mio. unique users, Glam is the women-network with the broadest reach on the net, and it is the top 16 of all US-sites. Glam bunches over 450 online-publishers in the women-affine topics, optimizes their content and traffic and markets them to companies. You will find more about Glam and the round financing, in which also partners of Accel and the DFJ are involved, in the WallStreetJournal, FAZ, on Turi2 and Venturebeat, but also at Hugo E. Martin.

Meet at Clift

When we stayed at Clift Hotel in San Francisco last week, we had a spontanous little DLD get together. Loic Le Meur came by who moved there to build his new video venture Seesmic. He just raised 6 Mio. Dollar and opened his first video studio. Niklas Zenström stopped over on his way to TED conference (very good coverage at Bruno Guissani's Blog). David Rothschild meet with his team to engineer his plastic-boat to cruise his plastiki tour later in the year which he will start in SanFran. And Andreas Weigend just came of an interesting Google workshop. It was great seeing them and catch up on news.

DLD at Plaza

We had the privilege to host a DLD cocktail at the soon to be opened Plaza Hotel in New York last week. Pictures will follow soon. The famous hotel is so much part of Big Apple's history, placed iconically at Central Park South and Fifth Avenue. Nowadays, the Apple Store is just opposite and we went there by night. It shimmeres a little like a graal and you step down to immerse into the Apple world.
