Perfect Replacement Battery, September 6, 2012

Got this battery to replace the one that came with my phone when it stopped holding a charge for more than an hour or so. The battery arrived quickly and was exactly as described.

Works great, looks identical to OEM, July 11, 2012

It took a surprising amount of time trying to locate the correct OEM battery for my wife’s T-Mo Samsung Galaxy S without paying full retail or getting a counterfeit/knock-off. I was a little uncomfortable with the reviews on this one, but as it turned out it looks identical to the OEM battery that came with her phone, and, after a week of use, works great. The battery arrived very quickly via First Class Mail. Two thumbs up!

Great But Not Groundbreaking, May 2, 2013

I’ll start off giving a bit of background on my smartphone usage. I’ve pretty much been a Droid user for my whole life. I’m definitely a power user and I greatly enjoyed having a keyboard. I could type long text messages or emails with ease, and I never really had that much interest in switching to a non-keyboard phone. Unfortunately, that decision was taken out of my hands somewhat. I have the Droid 4 which I greatly enjoy, but it has it’s own problems. After having it for about a year it got a pretty nasty crack on it. I played around with some friends GS3′s and was very impressed with them. However the rumors about the GS 4 coming out had already started so I decided to hold off. I’m glad that I did, but a lot of my review will be based off of not having the GS3 and making such a drastic switch. As I put in the title, it seems to be minor improvements upon a design they’ve found worked as opposed to the drastic changes previously seen. Without further ado…

The Looks:

There isn’t much positive to be said about the aesthetics of the Galaxy S4 body to be honest. It looks and feels like a cheap toy. It feels… clammy might be the best way to describe it. It really isn’t the best feel when you’re holding it, and compared to the HTC One it’s disappointing. It doesn’t seem like it had that much effort put into changing it. It does feel sturdy though, despite being a very thin phone. I was able to get a good grip on it though which is important to me since I’m rather small. Overall I would give the looks a 2.5/5

The Hardware:

Huge upgrade over.. well anything but a computer. This really is just a small computer, and it runs flawlessly. The screen is massive and great. Easily the best one that I’ve seen on a phone. The 5″ screen could be a little bit big for some people I think, but for most of the younger generation will be ok with it though. The battery is incredible as well. My Droid 4 would die around 4 or so after a normal days use (streaming music, internet, tons of emails, etc). This will last me all day, including going out at night which is a massive incentive to me. The camera is great on it as well, much better than any other Android phone. It is still slightly edged out by the iPhone though. Overall though I would give it a 5/5 on hardware

The Software:

I’ll start with the obvious, it’s actually running the latest version of Jelly Bean, and should keep up better than other phones do (minus Nexus 4.) This is a huge bonus, because Android’s because fault is that the OS is so fragmented. Now, Samsung has put a ton of their own software on top of Jelly Bean. The best description would be that it’s overwhelming probably. There are a lot of Samsung apps that really will just never be used. So I’m not even going to bother going over the party trick type apps. Instead I’ll talk about a few that really caught my attention.

S Health: Helpful now, will be awesome in the future. The premise is that it’s a basically a fitbit built into your phone. It helps you track calories, steps walked, workouts, etc. It works great now, but I don’t think that it will get better with accessories.

WatchON: Basically it acts as a universal TV remote and a Netflix browser. It’s great, and I don’t even watch very much TV. I suspect that this will become the standard soon, but until then this is the best version you can get.

Air View/Gesture: A great idea, but not great in practice. It’s glitchy currently and doesn’t always work (or does work in ways that you don’t want it to.)

Camera Software: There’s actually a lot of really great features that come with the camera. The most novel of them is the ability to take a picture from the front and back cameras at the same time. I can see this actually becoming standard in the future as well.

Overall I think that the software is good, but not perfect. Overall I would still rather just have stock jelly bean. Samsung adds some good features, but it also adds a lot of stuff that I really don’t need and can’t get rid of.

Final Impressions:

It’s a good phone, there’s no doubt about that. It’s not a great phone though. The screen is amazing, the body isn’t. The software is good, the hardware is out of this world. It all comes down to personal preference between this and the HTC One I think. Personally I’m fine just putting a case on my GS 4, but I’ve always been more interested in battery and hardware. I can completely understand picking a slight downgrade on those areas though in return for a great body like the HTC One has.

Awesome phone, incremental upgrade from SIII, May 6, 2013

Galaxy S4 is an incredible phone. I have been using this unlocked S4 for past 2 days helping a friend to migrate from iPhone 4S. My friend has been on iPhone and it also gave me a unique perspective. I used iPhone for couple of years and been using Android for past 3+ years.

I have used Galaxy S3, Note II and for me S4 is more like a S3s If you have a Galaxy S3, it is perfect and there is no need to move to S4. The new features are more like minor upgrades for me. Just like Detroit rolls out new cars every year, phone manufacturers have found excellent way to make yearly upgrades.

Battery came for almost a day. The video playback was crisp and my friend was amazed at the customization options. It is heaven for a iphone user to come out of shackles and explores the wonderful world of Android. It sure sounds like it is for geeks, but Samsung has created lot of ways to simplify and make it less intimidating. The EASY mode is for one such reason. Samsung’s addition of all those apps (commonly referred as crapware) is not as bad as HTC or LG. Android experience is classified as pure vanilla in phones like Nexus. Vendors like Samsung have added a whole lot of extra programs.

5″ HD Super AMOLED 1920 x 1080 display (441 ppi) is just plain gorgeous. 13 MP camera takes ginormous image sizes. I put a 64 GB microSDXC card SanDisk 64GB Mobile Ultra MicroSDXC Class 6 Memory Card with SD Adapter – Retail Packaging as my friend wants to take lot of movies (built-in 2 GB RAM, 16 GB ROM). No stuttering, and very smooth playback of videos captured in varying light conditions (HD Playback; HD Recording). Compatible video types are AVI/DIVX, WMV/ASF, FLV, MKV, MP4/3GP, WEBM. HDR and Panaromic photos were incredibly sharp. Compatible audio types are: AAC, AMR, MP3, OGG, WMA/ASF, 3GA/M4A, FLAC, WAV. Google Music, PlayerPro Music player are producing excellent music. Audio/Video is one section where S4 has nudged S3. For a normal user, if you are not into lot of video processing this does not matter.

S4′s infrared sensor is the same technology as TV remote control, so with WatchON you can change the TV channel from your phone. My friend was shocked to see this feature. Having used Android for a long time, I explored all new features one by one. My friend is still getting used to and feels this is too complicated. I broke down into lot of sub features and told my friend he may not use 50% of features, but told him to explore one feature at a time and focus on that.

Games were very buttery, this phones runs ARM®-based octa-core mobile CPU. This is apparently world’s first! Inside this chip is Imagination Technologies’ PowerVR SGX544MP3 GPU. I tried several car racing games and performance was phenomenal. People on the XDA-Developers forum report seeing smearing and ghosting when scrolling on the phone. This especially occurs to people when scrolling among darker colors, which begin showing up as purple. I tried hard to see if I could on the S4 I was testing with my friend and I could not see it. I am sure these can be upgraded with software over due course.

Air View and Air Gestures – are they worth it? Air view is similar to how the S-pen on the Galaxy Note 8 works. Simply hover finger a few millimeters above the screen and in supported apps, you’ll see a preview of content. This works with many of Samsung’s built-in apps, including the photo gallery, the dialer, Samsung’s browser and email client. It also works with Flipboard. Air View works by cranking up the capacitive sensor on the screen. Another new feature is Air Gestures. This uses the IR sensor on the top of the phone to detect movement by your palm or finger. One can flip between open tabs in Samsung’s browser app, skip to a new song in the music player and do many other things. I say these are still in works and sometimes not very efficient.

GPS was spot on and I tried multiple GPS apps. It was bright outdoors (had to crank the brightness all the way up). I tried multiple apps to demonstrate to my friend. In the end, my friend was impressed with what all Android and in particular S4 had to offer. Smooth and Stunning display!

I tried following apps and they just worked awesome.

Nexus 7 Case, August 22, 2012

I bought this case about a month ago and love it. My Nexus 7 fits very snugly inside. It feels very protected. When you use the stand it is very convenient. It is exactly what I wanted and needed. It arrived super fast. I ordered it on a Thursday afternoon and it was in my mailbox less than 40 hours later on that Saturday morning. What surprised me about that is that the shipping was free, so it’s not like I paid extra to have it expedited and I live in FL and the case came from CA. Impressive indeed.

Annoying sleep/wake function…, August 20, 2012

So, I have been happy with this case until a few days ago. I noticed that sometimes my screen would shut off on its own, and it would take up to 20 attempts to be able to unlock the device and get to my homescreen. Well, I figured out that the magnets used in this case may be a tad too strong. If you have the top flap folded back in just the right way, this will happen. I’m just happy I figured out it was the case and not my Nexus 7 having some sort of faulty hardware/software. So, buyer beware.

Pretty decent (and cheap) cover for the Nexus 7, August 27, 2012

I chose the Exact Leather Folio Case mainly because of its low price, and also because on the photos it didn’t seem to add too much depth to the Nexus 7. Turns out I made a good choice. The Exact Case is a good fit, had a sturdy build and is not too thick. The integrated stand works flawlessly, so movie buffs can rejoice. My only complaint is that the case doesn’t snap or shut tight, which means the integrated magnet triggers the ‘screen wake’ more often than necessary.

Not the Greatest Tablet, but a Good One, November 16, 2012

I wasn’t really in the market for another tablet, but my girlfriend ended up getting one for me so she got me on this one. I would like to say that this tablet reminds me of the first Motorola Droid smartphone that came out several years back. The phone jam packed a ton of bells & whistles into its hardware and software to give a lot of bang for your buck. This is what it feels like amazon has done with the Kindle Fire 8.9. They have put a lot of advanced hardware and innovative software, so for the average user, specially someone who absorbs a lot of media, you get a lot for the price. But just because you get a lot for the price, doesn’t mean it is without its flaws. This is an updated version of my likes and dislikes, (my original analysis was a bit rushed, this is more detailed):

LIKES

Build Quality

I like the build of this product, it has good material design and durability. It feels nice in your hands and comfortable to hold with easy access to buttons. Since this is only 8.9″ and not 10 or 11 inches, it is easier to grasp and hold in one hand with an overall good aesthetic look and feel to it.

Speakers

I have to say, the more I listen to it, the more I like the sound. The speakers are definitely a step up from the norm and probably one of its best features. They produce a full, rich, and very vibrant sound you can experience music and movies the way they were meant to be experienced. It is not a home theatre experience, but as close as one can get with a small device like this.

Screen

The display is very nice. I’m not sure if it compares with the clarity of Super Amoled or Retina screens, but it comes close. High screen resolution is not special to the Kindle, lots of tablets now have high resolution screens, some higher. What this screen has that other tablets don’t is the anti-glare, which works well under sunlight and highly lit places, it’s not something that seems advantageous until you work with a screen that doesn’t have this.

Internet

Kindle’s Wi-fi and Silk Browser make internet browsing fast. I did a comparison with a Samsung and Apple tablet, and noticed that the surfing was faster, it wasn’t a huge difference but it was noticeable. Streaming audio and video had a bigger and more noticeable difference, with the Kindle being very smooth, with fewer lags and dropped connections. This is key for me, I hate streaming content with pauses and breaks in loading, there is less of that in the Fire.

Reading Experience

In my opinion, this is Fire HD’s best feature, delivering a better reading experience than any tablet right now. This is no surprise as books are Amazon’s claim to fame and where they excel and have always excelled. I don’t know if you remember, but before Amazon was Amazon, they were the first online retailer for books. Before there was an iPad, there was the kindle. They have always been at the forefront of the book buying and reading experience, now especially digital books. I think I remember reading that the Kindle was the main reason Borders Bookstore went out of business, Borders said they just couldn’t keep up with or match Amazon’s delivery system.

Now with this Fire HD, they offer even more advancements. With its X-ray for books, its ‘reading view’ that takes away messy images on a site leaving only text, `immersive’ reading that lets you play an audio book while reading, whispersync technology, and better optimization of text, other devices can’t match. Granted it doesn’t compare to digital ink like on the original Kindle for me did the best to mimic actual reading, but as far as tablets goes its better than what is out there. If you are getting a tablet primarily for reading, this is gonna be a good choice.

Amazon Universe

I have a love hate relationship with Amazon’s Universe of services. I don’t like how even though the Kindle HD uses Android, it is somewhat restricted. Also, they don’t have as many apps as google or apple. But taking everything else into account, movies, books, music, prime lending library, prime movies, amazon is better. The big drawback is you have to own a kindle to fully enjoy their universe, which means if you own a kindle, you are limited from using other company’s universe.

Apps and other features

All the apps work fine, they start and stop as they should, nothing to criticize or brag about. The touch screen is smooth and responds good, though nothing like iPad…hate to say it but iPad thumps everyone on that, their touch and scrolling is very fluid and just feels right. I don’t have kids so I can’t really comment on the parental controls but from other reviews seems like something to have if you have kids. Can access email and everything fine.

As there appears to be mixed reviews of the 8.9′ Fires – ones with 4G access and those without – to clarify, this review is for the 8.9″ tablet with the 4G connectivity option.

To get the iPad comparison out of the way, I put this tablet side-by-side to my iPad 2 I use for work. Downloads were slightly faster and the video screen resolution and the colors were more vibrant on the Fire vs. the iPad 2.

Screen Display / Video Playback:

With the larger HD screen, if playing video is important to you this is the version of the Fire to get as the screen display is fairly impressive with sharp and crisp colors. The display on this HD Fire was one heck of a lot better in terms of sharpness than last year’s model and even this year’s smaller HD model.

Amazon also added a cool feature on this one with the HDMI micro connection port. I have an HDMI micro plug and was able to hook this up to the big screen to watch an episode of the science fiction series Defying Gravity. It played back great smoothly with no problems.

Wi-Fi connectivity:

My standard test for trying out new gadgets is to see how fast they run side-by-side with a known piece of equipment doing the same test at the best place of Wi-Fi in my house and the worst place where it drags. In this comparison, I had this 8.9″ version of the Fire sitting next to the “smaller” HD version of the Fire, my Motorola RAZR smartphone, my iPad 2 (yes, the Kindle guy uses an iPad for work), and the new 7″ Fire all just using a Wi-Fi connection vs. cellular connectivity..

My website test is to hit the mobile websites of FoxNews, CNN, my personalized Yahoo page, Google, and the Houston Chronicle. The ones that were usually slow on the other devices and were still slow but faster than the other devices (Houston Chronicle and CNN), and for the other sites I couldn’t tell a difference in speed at the location closest to my router. When I went to the slowest / worst reception location of my house, the speed did have a noticeable difference in the other devices as this one was slightly faster but for a casual surfer it is not noticeable nor does it hang.

Email Setup:

Email setup was very easy with the included email app for my main Google account – it took about a minute to input my email address and password information and I was good to go: sending and receiving emails was a snap, and when I sent a test message with pictures they displayed crisply. I will tell you I primarily us an existing app called Enhanced Email that I received here on the Amazon app store for free vs. what came as standard with the Fire for daily use, and it was easy to use – actually better due to the larger screen size – with this version of the Fire. For those of you asking yourself why am I using the Enhanced Email program, the simple answer is like many of you I have more than one email account: you can quickly switch back and forth on the accounts with the tool. The lazy person in me appreciates that as I don’t like getting out of the lazy chair once I’m settled in!

Game Play:

I do play a lot of games, but they aren’t the heavy action / interactive games many of the kids play today. For my test, I tried out several rounds of Words with Friends and a Majong derivative. The display was crisp and the tablet was very responsive as it interacted over the WiFi network of my home to the game server.

Sound / Music Playback

Different than last year’s model and the $159 this year’s model, the two speakers are located in the back of the Kindle Fire in two not-noticeable ports. My test of this feature was cranking up Van Halen’s Panama to maximum volume (I wanted to see if it could really play the guitar licks), and I would alternate covering one speaker up over the other: you have true stereo sound with no degradation of the sound that makes you think you are about to blow the speaker. However, the sound is not very crisp (the $159 Fire sounds better to me) as the sound is going away from you with the speakers being in the back. With a cover on the Fire to protect it, that can be a problem. It’s going to take a little bit of getting used to having the volume controls at the top of the device.

Reading Books:

Reading a book was enjoyable and easy on the eyes with the larger screen: I appreciate being able to changing the default font to something else in addition to increasing the font size so I don’t have to wear my glasses. Turning pages is pretty darn easy – just tap the side of the screen to go to the next page or back a page, or you can swipe your finger across the screen to do the same.

Bluetooth:

Bluetooth setup was very easy. I tested this with audio in my car as well as an external keyboard…

My Thoughts (Typed Using The Kindle Fire HD 8.9), November 22, 2012

Let me start out by saying that I am new to the tablet world and have had no experience using any tablets prior to this purchase. That being said, I spent a great deal of time fishing around through reviews and specs of what seemed like countless tablets for months. The obvious cliche conclusion led to all fingers pointing at some variation of an iPad, yet for me, I do not see much sense in purchasing a tablet (regardless of brand) for around the same price as a cheap yet descent laptop that will have more potential.

Enter the Kindle Fire HD.

I will spare you the story on my process of how I ended up choosing a Fire HD and get right to what you all want to know: my thoughts and experience thus far with the product.

Picture: (10/10)
I will start with this since obviously that was the first thing i noticed. In a word, incredible. Now its not “eye popping” or anything out of this world, but i can honestly say it exceeded my expectations and i was (and continue to be) impressed by this piece of hardware’s capabilities. I tested out just a few minutes of TV shows, trailers, videos, and films from Prime Instant Video, Netflix, Hulu Plus, Flixster, and Youtube (through the web browser since an app is currently unavailable) and everything looks as it should (and beautiful to boot)! Books come out crisp as well (both in text and picture) and the same goes for basic website visuals, apps, and games. Overall I am very impressed.

Sound: (10/10)
This is probably where i was most impressed. I have seen some of the reviews on here that are 3 stars or less putting down the audio or claiming they don’t hear the big deal. Not to be a jerk or anything but i recommend those people check in at an ear clinic and have their hearing tested. I was literally amazed at how I was hearing sounds from various distances and angles. From up close it felt like i was hearing a high quality home theater system and not just for one flick but everything. From website audio to music, Netflix to Audiobooks, this tablet sounds great!

Book/Reading Features: (10/10)
At first this was not my primary reason for purchasing a Fire HD, but after toying around with a few things, I am truly impressed at how well Amazon has integrated the ability to find, purchase, read, and even listen to literature. The lending library for Prime users is a nice added touch allowing you to borrow from a rather extensive list of books. Not to mention many timeless classics are available for free (such as Dracula, Gulliver’s Travels, Little Women, The Iliad, The Jungle Book and many more) and of those titles, many come with free audio! If you do not feel like spending the money on audio (or if your book has none available) the text-to-speech feature is surprisingly well done with minimal error. With all this being said, I can honestly say that I am excited to start reading again.

Web Browsing: (8/10)
The only reason I do not give this a 10 is because web browsing (with what is given out of the box) lacks Flash support which limits the capabilities. However, with a bit of research I was able to find forum discussions on how Fire HD users were able to work around this by downloading an app called ES File Explorer and then a separate browser called Dolphin that gives you Flash capabilities, so this is an easy fix that even a monkey could figure out how to do as long as they are patient. Though don’t get me wrong, Silk is fast and beautiful and i use it for the majority of my web surfing, but occasionally Flash is needed. As I am sure you have read by now in other reviews, the fact that the Fire HD does not automatically come with Flash support is not Amazon’s fault yet rather Adobe for pulling he plug on their involvement with tablets. Again, as long as your network is put together well, browsing the web is very fast and up to par with dare I say some computers.

App Availability: (8/10)
To me, this is the only area where the Fire HD lacks. I would rate lower here but I am trusting that over time and after updates, the lineup will have grown. Once more, with a bit of research you can find discussions on how to “sideload” apps from your computer and other devices, but that could be a bit too advanced for the average user. Though for what it is worth, the selection it does currently come with is top notch. Just to name a few, some important missing apps include: YouTube, Dropbox, and SiriusXM. Still, as far as I am concerned, this certainly is not a deal breaker and I am sure that as things progress access to these will become available.

perfect case for nexus 7 tablet, August 3, 2012

This is an attractive, well made case. It fits the Google Nexus 7 tablet perfectly. The zipper is of good quality and slides easily. The outside pocket is pretty large and easily holds cables and other accessories. The thickness of the neoprene is just about right for protecting something the size and weight of the Nexus tablet. The key-chain that was included for free will surely become a treasured possession.
I am very satisfied with this case, it is really a wonderful buying experience.

Worthy investment, August 3, 2012

I bought this case because I wanted something that did not cover the front bezel, was thin enough that I could still put the Nexus 7 in my cargo short’s pockets if I needed to, could also act as a stand, and didn’t cost a quarter of the price of my tablet – this case fits that bill.
This is a good looking cover that makes a great accompaniment to the Nexus 7. The Neoprene has an attractive finish and it’s easy to slide in and out of bags and pockets. The zipper is surprisingly sturdy and it’s the perfect accessory for this device. The company that ships these delivered very quickly too with the item well packaged.

The case is fits the Nexus 7 like a glove. In fact it took me a tiny amount of force to push the tablet in (I have a full body cover on mine), however, as the inside is lined with a soft, cloth-like fabric I wasn’t too worried about it damaging the tablet. In any event, it is nice that the six clips fit snugly with the tablet as I am not as worry about the tablet falling out. Moreover, even with the case in “standing” mode, the remaining four clips still hold on tightly and make sure that the tablet doesn’t just slip out the bottom. Other than the grip, which was my most concerning aspect, the stand, with its two ridges, gives it at least two different view angles for your viewing pleasure. Moreover, the sleep/wake magnet works as intended and none of the ports are blocked (in fact you get a lot of room between the ports and the clips) so there is no concerns there.

However, I do have some minor gripes about the case. First, I knew the case was leather when I bought it and still think they chose the wrong material because the leather makes the case somewhat bulkier than it needs to be. Second, when using the hand strap there is no way to clip the cover to back so that it stays put (rather you have a flapping sort of motion if you are moving around too much). Thirdly, move (or even remove) the stylus holder strap to a different location as it blocks the volume controls.

I highly recommend this case for the Nexus 7. Amazing functionality at a great price – definitely worth the $9.99.

I bought one and then shelved my Google Nexus 7. Then I bought a cheap case that actually fell apart in a few weeks and dropped my Google Nexus 7 out the side of the case.
Then I found this Worldshopping on Amazon. This is exactly what I was looking for and a bargain for the price. This is a good looking cover that makes a great accompaniment to the Nexus 7. I like almost everything about this product, its price, the way it looks and feels, the workmanship quality, the way it perfectly fits the Google Nexus 7. It looks very classy in business conferences. The case makes holding and changing my grip on the Google Nexus 7 very secure, so the dropping threat is automatically lessened — and I have not dropped it yet — but just a single layer of leather over the corners would make me feel better. Overall, I really like this case, and the partially threatened corners were enough to reduce my rating by a half-star, but not by a full one, so I am leaving it at five stars.
Both the item and the seller are well recommended.

This runs on the TI OMAP processor and NOT Exynos, May 5, 2012

I bought this thinking it was the I9100 GS2 but instead I received a I9100G, the “G” makes a huge difference.
Samsung quietly rolled out the I9100G with a TI OMAP 1GHz instead of the Exynos 4210 which is 1.2GHz and is also what makes the GS2, the GS2. The Exynos itself runs circles around the OMAP in performance so that’s why you should be cautious if you’re going to buy this from Amazon as they only sell the I9100G now.

Galaxy S2: leader of the pack? – from a diehard Blackberry user, April 12, 2012

Having been a Blackberry user for several years but also owning an iPod4 64G, I finally decided to replace my 2-year old Blackberry Curve with a smartphone and went for the Samsung Galaxy S2 Android, which is cheaper than the iPhone and has had generally positive reviews from users.

I’ve been using the Samsung now for a couple of weeks. Before getting into details about a few of the amazing features of this excellent phone, here is a summary of what I really liked about the Blackberry Curve and how the new Galaxy S2 compares:

1. It was easy to type text on the Blackberry because it has a physical keyboard which even a user with big fingers can cope with. I was put off on-screen keyboards a couple of years ago by the truly appalling and virtually un-usable Blackberry Storm, but the Samsung is really OK in this department even though its keyboard appears on-screen because the key points are so large, and when you finger a key a larger image of it pops up to confirm which key you have activated.

2. The Blackberry’s party piece was very easy and intuitive email management, which I need to use all day long for business messages. Well, the Samsung is surprisingly good here too, with the added bonus of a huge screen and the facility to enlarge or reduce text size with a sweep of the fingers, iPhone style. The text clarity is first class.

3. The Blackberry has very long battery life and typically I’d only need to charge it every 4 or 5 days, even with heavy usage. The Samsung does not fare well in comparison and needs daily charging, but there’s a number of things you can do to prevent high power consumption like turning off features you’re not using and not playing music through it (if using the phone principally as an iPod-like music player is important to you, then this Samsung may not be for you as battery life will be reduced to a few hours).

4. The Blackberry is small and handy in size, whereas the Galaxy is 3x larger (but about the same thickness) – however in compensation, you get that amazing huge screen

For a really comprehensive techy overview, please look to other excellent reviews of this product. Here’s a summary of the main features of this amazing phone from my simpler perspective:

* The AMOLED screen on the Galaxy is definitely its star attraction: huge, bright and clear with fabulous colour definition, it’s even better than the iPhone or iPod. Designers have finally copped-on that people don’t want ever smaller and smaller phones and no-one wants to watch a movie on a screen 1.5cm square; they want something of a convenient size that they can use and read easily at arm’s length

* Despite the substantial size, it’s thin and lightweight at only 116g which makes it no problem in your pocket and a big advantage to a smaller person when making long calls (the iPhone for example is around 20g heavier)

* All functions are very intuitive and easy to use – at least as good as the iPod4 with a similar feel

* Calls are easy to make due to the big clear graphics and easy-to-follow menus – however it has some minor quirks like you can’t answer a call by actually pressing the green phone symbol, you have to `sweep’ across it – but once you learn this, everything is OK. The ear-speaker and voice-mike are both very good and very clear; reception so far first-class with no dropped calls

* The quality of the image from the camera is also exemplary (but make sure the flash is turned on)

* The Galaxy has a standard connect-to-computer/mains charger socket, a micro-USB port located on the base-edge of the phone. Finally manufacturers have chosen (not before time) to stop ripping-off their customers by making them buy new chargers with every new handset and begun to standardize – FINALLY!

In summary I’d say if you’re looking for a smartphone, the Galaxy S2 is a very serious contender. It’s beautifully designed, its screen is absolutely amazing – you need to just use it for a couple of minutes to appreciate how good it is – yet it’s lightweight. The menus are intuitive and easy to master; it has loads of optional software and aps (mostly free to the user, unlike with Apple); making calls and managing email is a breeze. It’s a weather forecaster, a GPS street-finder and a web browser with astoundingly clear screen definition unlike anything I ever used before.

Possible cautions include barely acceptable battery life, and for this it drops a star: if you’re a current Blackberry user you’ll really notice this, and especially so if you use it as a music player. Also the Galaxy might be intimidating if you’re a technophobe who just wants a simple phone to make calls. But it compares very well in all essentials against the iPhone: it’s lighter, cheaper and the screen is better, and most of the aps for which Apple charges you, you get with the Galaxy for free.

Great phone, working for MOVISTAR VENEZUELA, January 14, 2012

I’m using it for Movistar Venezuela, it works perfectly as it should. It’s a beautiful phone with Android OS which makes it an excelent device.
Everything you can see about this phone is perfectly great, the ONLY ONE thing nobody would like is the battery, it waste very fast but making some changes on the OS you can make it improve.

It uses the same bands as Movistar, so it works with 3G and HSPA.

PD: Differences between GT-I9100 and SA-I9100 are just the origin, it does not make any important changes.

I bought the ceramic white and black version to the FGS Trading seller.

I was looking for something to strum on my guitar and it tell me if I was sharp or flat, which note it was on, and perhaps even the degree to which it was off, but all this one does is play what it should sound like. DISLIKE!

Does what I need, March 27, 2011

I use this app to scan docs I frequently use on a daily basis. I’ve not had any trouble with any text size. Though some smaller text may not be 100% clear, it is still readable. This is probably the most used app on my phone, I love it!
The only thing I have to be careful about are shadows on the paper. I make sure to take the pictures in good lighting where there are no objects to obstruct the light. I couldn’t ask for more in a free app.

Good Product but….., September 18, 2012

This leather case is as advertised as far as the color and function are concerned. The gadgets that came with it were a nice perk however the USB cord came without the actual charger. I can’t complain about the price although shipping was almost the same cost as the case. The only true complaint I have is that the edges of case cover the face of my device just enough to prohibit one of it’s primary functions. Its needs to be about an 1/8 inch smaller on the part of the case that frames the device.
All in all its a good product. If they decrease shipping and handling just a little it’s well worth the cost.
