Year two of the renewed three-year Gum Litter Taskforce campaign was launched yesterday in Blackrock by An Cathaoirleach Cllr Tom Joyce on behalf of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. Last year the GLT campaign achieved a 28% reduction in gum litter nationally. A nationwide on-street attitudes and awareness survey also showed there was a significant improvement in public perception, with gum that is irresponsibly disposed, clearly viewed as litter by those surveyed.

The Annual Summer Flower Show will take place in County Hall, Dun Laoghaire on Saturday 11th August, at which a colourful display of Herbaceous Perennials, Pot Plants, Alpine, Cacti, Succulents, Floral Art and Home Baking will be on show. This will be the 85th annual show organised by the South Dublin Horticultural Society and Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is delighted to be able to host the event which compliments the heritage of parks, gardens and floral displays in the County. Doors will open at 2pm till 5.30pm, there will be plants available for sale on the day and admission is free.

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Council has made an order to temporarily close Main Street, Dundrum between its junction with Upper Kilmacud Road to just south of the entrance to the old Dundrum Shopping Centre. The closure is to take place from 1.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. on Sunday 24th June, 2012.

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council today confirmed the dates for the Mountains to Sea dlr Book Festival 2012. This year's festival will take place from the 4th to the 9th of September, and incorporates the Poetry Now festival for the first time.

An oustanding line up of international authors from across the genres is being prepared, given that the festival now includes Ireland's top poetry festival, in addition to a first class family and schools programme, and the main programme.

National Bike Week 2012 takes place between June 16th and 24th with many free and enjoyable cycling events taking place all over Dublin and nationally. Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council is playing its part by hosting a number of free cycling events and activities during the week in conjunction with dlr Sports Partnership. Among the events being held is a gentle 6km Cycle along the new Slang River Greenway in Ballinteer starting at Marlay Park on Saturday 23rd June at 3pm.
