Anybody can become a member of PenFed by making a small one off donation to either to Voices for America’s Troops ($15) or the National Military Family Association ($20). You can also join for free if you’re military or work for the United States government, a full list of free options can be found here.

Our Verdict

We need to get the full details, but thus far it looks similar to the PenFed Platinum card. The Defender card adds the 3x dining, streaming, sporting, and military, but the basic set up of 5x gas and 3x grocery is the same on both. 

Again, points are worth .85 cents, so it’s really 4.25% on gas and 2.25% on grocery/dining and .85% everywhere else. (Also worth noting that the gas category is limited to pump-only transactions.)

Our Verdict

Nice bonus for signing up. It’s not live yet, so we might have some of the details wrong, let’s see when it goes live tomorrow. 

This stacks with the regular $400 BYOD rebate offer. 

Switching carriers is a pain in the neck, but a great deal for someone who is anyway signing up with T-Mobile. It might be possible to stack this with a shopping portal as well.

Nice deal for gift card purchases. As always, keep in mind that Capital One Shopping portal does not require having a Capital One card or bank account. Also remember that the rewards are not cash but rather they cash out as gift cards for various brands.

Our Verdict

100,000 matches the best offer we’ve ever seen. Standard offer is 60k and sometimes we’ve seen 75k. We’ll add this to our list of the best credit card bonuses.

It might be worth waiting until to see if referral links get this offer, that way you can help out a friend. Otherwise, find a blogger with affiliate links to support by using their link to sign up (we don’t have affiliate links).

Reminder that you can one Sapphire Preferred bonus per person/lifetime and one Sapphire Reserve bonus per person/lifetime. Sapphire Reserve just went down from 150k to 100k online or 125k in-branch, so might be worth waiting on signing up for that card to see if something better comes another time.

Our Verdict

Meijer sells $200 Visa gift cards, and some locations sell $500 Visa gift cards, so this is a profitable deal especially when you use a card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases.

Our Verdict

Previously only the lowest tier bonus has been offered. Keep in mind you can do this bonus and still do a Chase checking & Savings bonus as well, but doing this bonus prevents you from doing the Chase Private Client or Sapphire Checking bonus. If considering this bonus you have several options:

• You can just fund the account with $25,000-$250,000 and leave the funds in there without investing them for 90 days. For most people this won’t be worth doing.
• A better option would to put the funds into a money market fund such as VMMXX or VUSXX. These have been yielding 2%+ returns and are considered very safe, but they don’t have FDIC insurance like a traditional high yield savings account.
• You can invest funds as you normally would.
• Reader Ben points out that the Sapphire Banking offer does not allow IRA funds to count to the funding amount while this You Invest offer does allow that. So if you don’t have non-IRA funds to move over and thus can’t get the Sapphire bonus, this You Invest bonus can really be cost free by simply transferring over IRA funds (I’ve never actually transferred an IRA, personally, but I assume it’s not difficult). Another reader points out that there are often fees for transferring an IRA, check with your original institution and with Chase to find out if there are fees to transfer in or out.

It’s very possible the inactivity closures are just standard and not part of a wider shut down and they are getting thrown into the mix because we are seeing the other shut downs. If you were shut down then feel free to share your spend volume etc in the comments below, although most of that discussion is ongoing in private groups. If you’re wondering how people are spending that much on Amazon, some of them are legitimate personal expenses but mostly it’s business expenses (technically a no no on personal cards) and buying group orders. If you’re a normal cardholder you don’t have anything to worry about.

No, just the individual Chase Amazon cards. Other Chase cards and accounts are remaining intact.
