David Tennant Should Host Saturday Night Live (SNL) on NBC

Hello Who Fans,

It's been a little while since we've posted on the main page and I wanted to start off with something big - or at least I hope that we have a chance at creating some history here. We here at DoctorWho.com were quite inspired by seeing Russell Brand host Saturday Night Live (SNL) on NBC a few weeks ago. Well, to make a long story short, we thought It would be amazing to see David Tennant host this show.

So, we've started a campaign on facebook. We have created the David Tennant to Host SNL Facebook Group and would love to see as many people as possible join in, like the page, write on the wall, and create a ton of interest to see if we could possibly persuade David Tennant and NBC to actually make this happen!

Of course, there's no guarantees here, but if we get a large enough interest generated, our chances of success have got to be better - right??? I sincerely hope so. So please, take some time to like the facebook page at the above link and with any luck, we may get our wish.

Attention Doctor Who Fans – DoctorWho.com, in association with the producers of Decline and Fall, are holding a competition where one lucky winner will receive tickets to see the production of Decline and Fall on a date of their choosing. Afterwards, the winner will get an opportunity to meet the cast, including an opportunity to speak with Sylvester McCoy – the 7th Doctor!

The Competition Rules are as follows:

The competition is open only to UK residents (or anyone who doesn’t mind traveling to London to see the performance).

Thanks to everyone who has entered the Doctor Who Fan Art Contest! There were many excellent submissions and we had a very difficult time narrowing it down to the 7 finalists!

Now, it's up to you to decide who wins. We have posted each of the 7 finalists to our Facebook Page. To vote, just sign in to Facebook and Like your favorite artwork. Like as many or as few as you want. Remember to Like the individual art - Liking the album is fine too but we won't count it towards the winning submission.

Matt Smith to Appear on Craig Ferguson?

According to the latest twitter posts by craigyferg (post 1, post 2) as well as other information floating around the Internet, it appears that next Tuesday 16th November on the Late Late Show Matt Smith and possibly a Dalek will be making a special guest appearance.

Even though the official site for Craig Ferguson's show makes no mention of the guest appearance, it does make sense given the upcoming filming of Doctor Who that is planned in Utah the following days (17 - 19 November). The official word on the street is that the entire Tuesday show will be dedicated to Doctor Who. I guess we'll all have to wait and see what happens next week to find out if the rumors are true.

Attention US Residents: The Fifth Series DVD release date is 09 November 2010 in the United States, and to celebrate the occasion, DoctorWho.com is holding an artwork contest!!! The winner will receive (courtesy of Warner Brothers) a Region 1 DVD of Doctor Who: The Complete Fifth Series as well as 5 action figures.

Here are the contest details:

The contest is only for US Residents.

To enter - submit an image of your own artwork to our contest email box: contest@doctorwho.com - Feel free to include any additional information in your email.

The art can be digital, hand drawn, sculpture - anything goes as long as you created it!

Please keep the file size below 1 MB. We will only accept the following formats: GIF, PNG, JPEG, PDF (If you're chosen to be a finalist, we may contact you for a higer resolution version if you have it available.)

We will accept submissions up until 11:59PM EST on Sunday, 14 November 2010.

Finalists will be chosen by DoctorWho.com on Monday, 15 November and their artwork posted on our site. Then, we'll open up the polls for the rest of the week and whoever gets the most votes by Saturday, 20 November at 11:59 EST wins! In the event of a tie, the DoctorWho.com staff will cast the deciding vote.

The 13 Lives of Doctor Who

As you probably already know, during the Doctor's fourth incarnation, when Tom Baker faced off against the Master in The Deadly Assassin, the series established the bounds on a Timelord's regenerative ability - 12 regenerations was the limit. This episode was a critical time for the Master as he had entered into the end of his 13th incarnation - a period that marks the end of the existence for a Timelord. The Master's constant desire to cheat death is at the heart of the plot of The Deadly Assassin, however an even more important aspect of this story is the implication of what effect this limitation will have on the doctor in the future.

Much lore has been established over the years about what lies ahead for the Doctor; the series has occasionally played with the myriad of possibilities. It has been suggested (more than once) that the Doctor may have a dark persona that lies ahead. In fact, if you take the time to study some of the references in the classic series - one might even be led to believe that the Master is actually a future incarnation of the Doctor! (Check out the Trial of a Timelord series)

Admittedly, the Doctor and the Master being the same person might be a bit too extreme of a plot twist, not to mention breaking the first law of time (think The Three Doctors...), but now we have what may be even more extreme: The Doctor Is Immortal.

That's right - According to the newest Sarah Jane Adventures two-part episode The Death of the Doctor airing 25-26 October, the Doctor is now immortal. So much for lucky 13, eh? In an apparently un-emphasized, un-dramatic, lackadaisical moment between Matt Smith's Doctor and Clyde, Clyde asks the Doctor how many times he can regenerate, to which the Doctor replies that there is no limit.

It seems that the BBC has casually put in place an insurance policy to keep the series going for quite some time. I'm happy to see that they are sending out the message that Doctor Who is here to stay, but I have to admit that I'm a bit disappointed in the form that message. Call me crazy - but wouldn't you have wanted to see such a major change introduced in the show and with a bit more grandeur? Maybe even integrated with the plot of an episode that would provide a plausible explanation for this shift? I think I would have much preferred that. I guess it's not impossible that the next season will address this; seeing as that it will inevitably become crucial at some time.
