Allison - some great content here, especially in the video interview. Strategy is great but only makes a difference if it is followed by action. You provide simple, if not easy to follow, advice on changing your actions.

Now that, I find, is not only instructive, but gentle in persuasive technique. He is correct in not suggesting that poetry is "the" answer, but rather that it is for him.
I read a lot of William Stafford's work and believe that he lived that way (I grew up with that family when my dad was his dept. head at Lewis and Clark).
Thanks for reminding all of us to grasp that little bit of time and calm our souls.

As a long-time member of the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference (as were my parents), I'm so happy to see your new grant to this incredibly productive group! Kind of a "family thing": My-son-the-volunteer helped build those steps!

From Nine Mile Falls yet away from the plovered shores of New Jersey I can imagine you walking along, sharing the salty air and winterscaped waters. It is the poet's walk, I believe, that distinguishes many writers.

My sister, now passed, would encourage such walks from her home in Port Townsend, WA and carry some of my poems with her to help me as she helped her students. I use her as muse for she was the constant force in both my teaching and learning.

We dreamt of having a class (probably a seminar) where we could teach writing as a combination of my background in Geography and her American English writing.

Something for you to think about as you return to the collegiate campus and continue encouraging others. Best wishes,
Ralph Allen
