Naming your dog is fun. It’s almost as fun as naming a baby. And it is also as tedious as coming up with a name for your baby. You should always think it through properly to give your dog a good name because you will be calling your dog by this name for a long time.

The first tip you should remember is to give your dog a short name. Longer names are harder to pronounce and maybe harder for your dog to remember as well. But don’t worry, a short name does not mean it won’t be a cool name. Try to find cooler names like Skip or Max. Stay away from confusing names like Noah because that would sound like a command to the dog, ‘No’.

Next, you can consider the personality and behavior of your dog after you have spent some time with your dog. If your dog is really bouncy, you can call him Bounce or maybe Happy. Or if he has a colored patch on his eye, you can call him Pirate or Patch. These are all cool names for a dog.

There are also a lot of popular dog names that you can choose from if you are ever out of ideas. Names like Sam, Buddy, Daisy, Ginger, and Benji are very popular with dog owners. Or you can always search for good dog names on the Internet. Maybe you can name your dog after some cartoon or comic characters.

Whatever name you come up with for your dog, make sure that you yourself liked it and your dog will actually respond to it. Don’t change your dog’s name after one or two weeks, because your dog will be very confused on which name to answer to!

Dogs are men’s best friends. I am sure you have heard of this phrase. So why not get a dog of your own? If you do decide to get a dog, the first thing you should do is to consider what type of breed that you want to get. Do your homework and it should be easier to come with a decision.

Think about your lifestyle when getting a dog. This is because the dog should fit into your lifestyle so that the rearing process will be easier. You need to know that dogs are very social able and they need constant company from their owners. Make sure you have the time and attention for a dog.

Try to make time to talk to some dog owners and see what obligations that you will get yourself into. These talks are important for you to gain more information and knowledge about owning a dog. And this information will ultimately assist you in making your decision about which dog to get.

You will also need to make a decision on whether to get a puppy or an adult dog. Puppies will require more of your attention and adult dogs might be harder to teach, plus you should consider how much time you have to teach and tame them. Take these into consideration so that you can make the right decision.

If you decide to go for a puppy, you can always go to a pet shop or a puppy mill to get one. A puppy mill is a place that rears puppies but they are mostly keen on the quantity of puppies they breed and not so on the quality. So you should also consider this factor when getting a puppy. You can opt to go to a reputable breeder that breeds puppies of good quality but they will be more expensive. You can spend some time with the sire and the dam if you want to and that would of course play an important factor in your decision.

Whichever your decisions may be, just make sure that you have given it a lot of thoughts and you know you are making the right decision.

Comparing pet insurance is mandatory because-

You can understand how far veterinary care has really come in the last 20 or 30 years.

Helps us to appreciate the uniqueness as well as to keep your dog/cat around for a very long time.

Pet insurance not only help you to compensate the loss of your beloved pet but also trying to maintain the health of your pet in better manner to avoid something bad from potentially happening.

While comparing the pet insurance with that of health insurance, you can easily find that it tends to cover many of the same things like annual required shots, prescription drugs and regular office visits. Hence you can come to conclusion that caring a pet is more or less equal like caring ourselves.

You can buy a lot of piece of mind by paying a small fee each month to a pet insurance company.

In the world of veterinary care, most of the treatment for diseases are obscure in spite of advancement of veterinary medicine each and every day. Hence taking the time to find a perfect solution for the existing animal problem through treatment can get expensive and pet health insurance fulfills the lacunae in the financial commitment of that particular month.

Most of the pet owners can pay the veterinary bills through credit cards immediately and the pet insurance company will settle their bills within couple of days. Hence confirm with the pet health insurance company before opting policy for your beloved pet.

In a typical dog show, the attending judges are always people and dog owners who know a lot about dog breeds. They usually judge the dogs by their breeds and how close are they to the original breed. A dog show is usually staged by a national kennel club and they organize championship shows for the dogs.

Standards for the Breeds

In a dog show, the judges will pick the dog that best fit the standards set for each dog breed. They will not compare the dogs but will pick one that is closest to the standard to win. They usually do this by comparing the dog to a standard list and see how much point that the dog will score. The dogs are then ranked according to their points.

The Judges

For each type of breed, the judges have to be very educated about them. The judges should have a huge amount of knowledge and experience with all types of dog breeds. Sometimes dog owners are suspicious on the points awarded because the lack of knowledge with some judges. They are also concerned about the bribery and favoritism that might have happened in some dog shows.

The dogs will have to accumulate points from different dog shows wins to be crowned champion of the dogs. There are also different levels of points accumulated and these are based on which show that the dog was in and if the show was a major or a minor dog show.

The number of points that a dog gets to be crowned champion is also depended on the country in which the dog competed in. Usually, dogs of the same level are grouped together, the divided again based on their breeds, different ages and sex also. They are then combined at the last round of the show to pick a winner of them all.

Dog shows are fun, you can mingle with dog owners and share your experience wit them as well.

If you are a dog owner, you would know that having a dog is no easy task especially when it comes to buying supplies for your dog. Dog supplies are endless and expensive; therefore you should always buy only what you need.

Dog supplies like dog beds, eating bowls, blankets, feeders, food, and cages are all the necessities that your dog would require. Do not forget a collar for your dog and some clothes if you are interested in dressing up your dog. A tip or a reminder is to only buy dog supplies that have been tested on dogs. You would not want your dog to suffer from allergy and illness caused by untested products.

It is always good to be extra attentive when choosing dog supplies for your dog. Otherwise, you will waste your money on getting things that do not fit your dog. A bed too small for your dog, for example, will be useless and finally tucked away in some corner of your house. Always have your dog’s relevant measurements at hand when you go shopping for some dog supplies.

One essential thing that you should get for your dog is its food. Always look at the label of the dog food to ensure that you are buying the right kind for your dog. Your dog’s age, breed and size are the factors that you should consider when buying dog food for your dog.

If you’ve bought something that your dog doesn’t like, do not be troubled, because dogs can be picky sometimes. Consult your vet and follow his recommendations and things should be fine with you and your dog.

HGE (at least in terms of veterinary medicine) stands for Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis, and it is a disease of dogs. The symptoms for HGE include bloody diarrhea, vomiting and listlessness in your dog. This disease if left untreated can be fatal to your dog.

Even though it can lead to fatality, if treated early, your dog should make a full recovery. If you notice the said symptoms in your dog, make a quick home treatment for your dog before bringing it to the vet. You should however give your vet a quick call and follow his recommendations.

For treatment at home, you should withhold all food and water from your dog. Your dog should not consume anything orally. Then you can continue to observe the symptoms very closely and note the regularity of your dog’s diarrhea and vomiting.

If you think your dog is dehydrated you can give it some ice cubes with small amount of electrolyte powder sprinkled on it for your dog to lick. This should keep your dog from dehydration.

If your dog shows some signs of improvement, you should still keep your dog on a liquid diet for a few days. This is to make sure that your dog is properly cured from the disease. When you are sure, you can then give your dog some boiled potatoes and some rice gruel. Please do no feed your dog with high protein and high fat diet.

For general care for your pet, you should always keep the surrounding area and the environment clean. Remove any vomit or diarrhea left over to keep the environment bacterial free. Isolate your dog from other pets and also young children and continue to observe its health. Visit the vet regularly and also update your pets’ vaccinations and deworming treatment.

Hemorrhagic Enteritis is a disease of the dogs. In simple terms, it is like a diarrhea with the dogs. Some symptoms that your dog may experience are bloody diarrhea, vomiting and listlessness.

If your dog has got the Hemorrhagic Enteritis, do not worry because it is treatable. The treatment is usually suggestive. The main objective of this suggestive treatment is to return and sustain fluid and electrolyte imbalances in your dog and to give its gastrointestinal tract a complete rest.

The treatment for Hemorrhagic Enteritis usually includes:

Limit the intake of food taken orally.

Intravenous Fluid and electrolyte treatment with Dextrose 5-10%, Ringers lactate, Normal saline

Medicine that prevent vomiting (Ant-emetics)

Medicine to control excessive gastrointestinal motility (Antispasmodics)

Drugs that coat and sooth the gastrointestinal tract and prevent gastric acid secretion (Antacids)

Antibiotics treatment to control primary or secondary infection by bacteria or virus.

Medicine to control fever and pain

Immunostimulators (Ascorbic acid)

Medicine to stop bleeding (Haemostats)

The foundation of treatment to treat this Hemorrhagic Enteritis is a lot of supportive care. You should not feed your dog food or water by mouth for 1 to 4 days, but you can start the intravenous (IV) fluid treatment. You can also add Potassium to the fluids to give your dog more protein. Antibiotics should also be given to your dog, in case of bacterial infection.

You should only introduce food to your dog after a short while and also very slowly. If your dog’s Hemorrhagic Enteritis is caused by certain type of food, you should also change its diet.

Remember to get your dog to treatment as quick as possible you can because if this disease is untreated, it can be fatal to your dog. With your great care, the chances of recovery for your dog are very high.

HGE is Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis and it is usually a disease found in dogs. The usual symptom for this HGE is a bloody diarrhea. This disease is usually identified when the vet can rule out any other causes for bloody diarrhea. The vet may also diagnose your dog with HGE if your dog suddenly suffers from bloody diarrhea and a high packed cell volume (PCV).

The vet will request diagnostic procedures to be done on your dog if your dog has acute and recurrent vomiting and diarrhea. If you see these symptoms in your dog, it is best to bring your dog to the vet as fast as you can.

If your vet suspects that your dog is suffering from HE, the vet can then ask for these typical and routine laboratory diagnostic tests to be carried out on your dog:

CBC (Complete Blood Count)

Biochemical profile (ALT, AST, ALP, TSP, A: G ratio, BUN, Creatinine)

Stool examination for parasites, bacteria and etc.

Abdominal radiography

Urinalysis

Ultrasonography

Your vet will also need information or medical history of your dog like vaccination status, deworming status, diets offered, foreign object intake, and previous illnesses that your dog might have had in order for him to diagnose you dog properly.

You can help the vet by telling him if you have observed any of the typical symptoms of the HGE in your dog. The HGE in dogs, if left untreated, will be fatal to the dogs.

HGE is Hemorrhagic GastroEnteritis, and it is a disease of dogs. The symptoms for HGE include bloody diarrhea, vomiting and listlessness in your dog. This disease is treatable but can be fatal if left untreated in your dog.

HGE can affect dogs of any breeds, gender and age but it is more commonly seen in miniature dogs of age from 2 to 4 years old. Even so, there are of course recorded cases of large dogs infected with the HGE disease.

The symptoms of HGE in dogs are easy to observe. One of the symptoms will include vomiting. If your dog vomits very frequently, take a look at its vomit if it is bloody or yellow and frothy in appearance.

It is also a cause for concern if your dog loses its appetite suddenly. It is a more cause of concern if your dog drinks less water than it usually does.

Check your dog stool and confirm whether your dog have the diarrhea. Check for any blood in the stool (Melena) or diarrhea and if it is of very foul smell.

Other symptoms also include dehydration, depression, abdominal pain and high body temperature. The dehydration will be caused by the inability of your dog to take in water. The skin of your dog will lose its shine, and its nose will be dry and your dog will have sunken eyes.

You can also observe its depression level, if your dog appears to be inactive and tired and show no interest in its surrounding. Signs of abdominal pain will be shown if your dog always stay put in a position with its belly resting on the floor. If you are suspicious of HGE in your dog, check its temperature. A rise in temperature may tell you that your dog has an infection.

If you see all these symptoms, bring your dog to see a veterinarian as soon as you can to eliminate the dog’s Hemorrhagic gastroenteritis symptoms.

Many canines though are fortunate to not suffer from the condition its entire life, but for those ‘lucky’ ones, experiencing one attack regrettably places them at increased risk of a second attack.

Should the afflicted dog show no improvement in 2 days, other plausible reasons for the symptoms needs to be explored: infection, metabolic or inflammatory disorder, diet as well as other miscellaneous factors ranging from gastric ulcers to poisoning.
