Dog Waste lining up at Wyoming Forest Trails

JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — A smelly problem is piling at trails around Jackson where people go hiking and cross-country skiing with their dogs. How big is this problem? Bridger-Teton National Forest officials say they recently counted 173 piles of dog waste around just one trailhead.

The problem is so bad, it's contributing to elevated bacteria levels in nearby streams.

District Ranger Dale Deiter said the situation is "not acceptable." He's promising to step up enforcement so people clean up their dogs' acts.

always keeep in mind that a clean dog is a happy dog, so rreeeemember to bathe yur best companion regularly.

I recommend at least every two to three weeks and use doggie or baby wipes to clean him when you don’t have time to bathe him that certain week.

I received a comment from Sarah Young who is having probelm with fleas on her cat and since she read my post about a home remedy that helps remove fleas from dogs she wanted to know if this same remedy would be of help to remove fleas from her beloved cat and asked me for some advice and so being as that Im no expert on home remedies concerning cats and how to to remove fleas off of them I had to go and search the net until I found what I think is exactly the solution for what she needs and what will help bring relief to her cat and I hope that this home remedy will also be of great help to other cat owners who have this same problem and with the econmoy the way it is can not afford to keep spending alot of money on those expensive medicines to remove fleas from their cats when they can find what they need right in their kitchen and put it together themselves right in their own homes.Try it and see if it will work just as great as those store bought flea medications. If your cat is not suffering a skin infection, the root of the problem is most likely the cat flea, which becomes increasingly possible when your cat likes to roam about the great outdoors. It is this destructive pest that is known as one of the most widespread of flea species in the world. This often makes the cat owner in distress readily welcome any home remedy before spending a large amount of money on commercial products and professional assistance.

What are Cat Fleas?

The cat flea (Ctenocephalides felis) primarily attacks the domesticated cat, but also causes trouble for dogs, humans, rabbits, rodents, and other animals [1]. Once a female flea comes in contact with a cat, she lays her eggs, which become dry and later fall to a more protected shelter on the host. As the eggs hatch into larvae, the immature fleas feed on the organic substances they find on the cat, including adult flea waste and dried blood.
Next, a process of metamorphosis takes place, where the larvae then spin a cocoon and enter what is called the “pupal stage.” This process varies, as a young adult flea only emerges when signs of a viable host are present, such as warmth, movement, and carbon dioxide production [2]. After a newly emerged flea breaths its first swallow of fresh air, it is motivated to jump about its host, where it takes minutes for the new flea to feed on blood.
Symptoms and Diagnosis

When a cat suffers a flea infestation, you will notice scratching and a noticeable discomfort on their part. A sure sign of cat fleas is seen when your cat walks away from the places they sleep or rest and small grains resembling “salt and pepper” are left behind. This is an indication that fleas are reproducing on your pet, as these remnants are actually flea eggs and droppings. While most cats live life as usual with a few fleas, untreated infestations may cause a variety of problems.

While cat fleas do not typically find a home on humans, they still bite cat owners who have a habit of picking up and stroking their cats. Human cat flea bites produce small, red, itchy bumps that often plague the ankles and lower legs. If a person suffers an allergy to flea bites, they experiences extreme rashes, hives, or generalized itching [3]. Usually, an allergic reaction to flea bites appears 12 to 24 hours after a bite and may last more than a week.

Risk Factors and Negative Effects of Cat Fleas

Cats face the higher risk of fleas when felines are placed in environments that promote the growth and spread of these common household pests. When left untreated, cat fleas have the ability to pose medical concerns and affect the humans living within the same space. Below you will find a wide-range of risk factors and negative effects associated with cat fleas:

a) Heavy Infestations:

The repeated bloodsucking that accompanies heavy infestations of fleas can cause iron deficiencies and anemia in cats. This is especially seen in young felines, which eventually leads to the death of some pets. Heavy infestations also mean that the fleas have spread to other parts of a household, often biting human occupants.

b) Disease:

Cat fleas are known to transmit other parasites to their host, including cats, dogs, and humans. Common diseases include Bartonalla, tapeworm, and murine typhus.

c) Hair Loss:

When a cat frequently scratches and licks at their flea bites, their hair may fall out.

d) Flea Allergy Dermatitis:

Cat fleas are responsible for causing flea allergy dermatitis (also known as FAD) in both cats and dogs. This type of allergy is believed responsible for more than 50% of all the dermatological cases reported to veterinarians.

e) Stray Cats:

When a stray cat has kittens under or close to an uninfested home, the chances of suffering a flea infestation becomes much greater. Cats who live in a heavily flea infested home will also sometimes escape their surroundings to seek relief, usually bringing an infestation to an uninfested residence when rescued as a stray.

f) Weather:

In the outdoors, cat fleas thrive when the weather is humid and rainy, which causes the southern parts of the United States to suffer flea infestations more than the north. The summertime also sees a high population of cat fleas.

g) Dormant Flea Cocoons:

Houses or apartments that have been unoccupied for a long time may suffer a flea infestation when new tenants or homeowners move inside and “awaken” dormant flea cocoons.

h) Frequent Outdoor Visits:

A cat that frequents the outdoors will heighten the risk of bringing fleas into their home environment.

Home Remedies for Cat Fleas

When it comes to using home remedies to treat cat flea problems, you should know that the fleas present on your feline only represent a minute piece of the entire flea population within your home. This is why it is important to follow home remedies associated with both your pet and household. Popular cat flea home remedies include:

a) All-Natural Flea Collar Vacuuming:

A regular vacuuming of carpets, upholstery, and pet bedding helps remedy flea infestations and aids in removing flea cocoons. Since vibrations trigger the emergence of new adult fleas, you may use the clipped ends of an all-natural flea collar as a deterrent. Simply place the flea collar clippings inside of your vacuum bag, which will destroy new fleas on the spot. It is important to use all-natural flea collars, as toxic fumes may arise when using other selections.

b) Yard Cleanup:

Since fleas thrive in moist, wet environments, you may treat the exterior of your house to lower the flea population outside of your home. To create a drier yard, you should cut the grass, trim shrubs, and avoid leaving piles of gravel and sand about the house for long periods of time. Additionally, remove any unnecessary organic debris, including leaves, grass clippings, and straw, which easily becomes a haven for fleas.

c) Promote Spider and Ant Populations:

Ants and spiders serve as great enemies to the flea by eating their eggs and larvae. When mowing your lawn too short, you help fleas to thrive within the outdoors. Lawns kept shorter than two inches encourages a lowering of the population of ants and spiders in a yard, who become susceptible to ground-feeding birds.

d) Birds [4]:

While ants and spiders put a dent in the flea population, so do birds, such as songbirds, sparrows, and starlings. If you encourage birds to settle in or close to your yard, you will also help lessen the fleas outside of your home because birds consider them a fine source of food. You should offer seeds, water, and shelter throughout the year to promote birds frequenting your yard.

e) Vinegar and Water:

In a spray bottle, place equal parts of white vinegar and water, which is then used to mist flea-infected bedding, pets, and carpets.

f) Cedar Shavings:

The local home improvement, home and garden, or feed shop can provide homeowners with cedar shavings, which makes an effective remedy for cat fleas. It is suggested to sprinkle the shavings about the house, in the garden, and inside flowerbeds. You may also fill a pillowcase with cedar shavings and sew it shut for your cat to lie on.

g) Hydrogen Peroxide:

Some individuals have found results when placing their cat in a tub and administering hydrogen peroxide to their coats. It is important to avoid getting the liquid in their eyes, nose, or mouth. In the end, you should see fleas dropping into the water. This home remedy should be avoided if you are worried about lightening the coat of your cat, which may last for a couple of weeks.

h) Borax:

Applying borax to cat bedding and surrounding floor spaces, carpeting, rugs, and furniture is known as an effective home remedy for fleas [5].

i) Routine Pet Bedding Washing [6]:

It is suggested to wash your pet’s bedding and treat surrounding areas with a product that prevents the growth of fleas. This especially comes in handy when your cat frequents the outdoors. As a rule of thumb, regular checks and cleaning of the basement, garage, car, and pet carrier is needed to remedy any possible flea infestations.

j) Flea Combs and Detergent Water:

When it comes time to remove fleas, many cat owners underestimate the power of a good flea comb, which provides a great non-toxic method of ridding your pet of cumbersome cat fleas. The proper way to use the tool is to comb your pet and then place dislodged fleas into a bowl of water filled with detergent, which kills the pests. Be sure to set aside a chunk of time to complete this home remedy. Effective combs should provide 32 teeth per inch.

k) Summer Maintenance:

Since fleas tend to thrive under warm conditions, it is suggested to wash pet bedding in hot, soapy water once per week, followed by a session in a hot dryer. You should always keep in mind that 90% of fleas in a household congregate where your pet sleeps. Rugs and carpeting should be vacuumed every two to three days.

l) Soap Detergent, Water and Light:

Place a pan filled with water and a few drops of dish soap in the center of a room infested with cat fleas. Next to the pan, situate a bright light onto the water as the only source of light in the room. The cat fleas are attracted to the light, causing them to jump into the water and drown because of the added dish soap. Without the dish detergent, the fleas will simply bounce back out.

Many dog owners have turned to natural home remedies instead of store bought products because they are affordable and safe and you can find them right in your home.. Many of these natural home remedies for dogs are quite easy to obtain. For example, do you have garlic in your kitchen? Most people do and use it to cook up tasty dishes but never consider that it is an effective flea repellant.

Four-legged animals are as inclined to experience stress as their two-legged owners. While your dog won’t labour over where his next meal will come from, he may wrestle with his own fears and anxieties. Fear may be associated with a particular person or gender, or a specific situation, such as a visit to the veterinarian’s office. Dogs may become anxious when their owners are away, when they hear certain noises such as thunder or fireworks, when a new pet enters the house or an animal companion dies.

Eliminating the cause is the first step in preventing your dog’s anxiety attacks. If your dog runs under the bed during a thunderstorm, the source of the stress is clear, but sometimes the cause of the stress is more difficult to determine.
To help a nervous pet, try some of these tension-easing tips.:

1. If your dog has a fear of thunder or fireworks, desensitising your pet is almost impossible. Instead, provide a place in your home away from windows and doors in which he can wait out the storm and keep a radio on to help drown out the sounds of the thunder or fireworks.
2. If your dog experiences anxiety over a new pet addition to the home, introduce the animals gradually.

3. Dogs may experience stress at being left alone. Consider the option of adopting or purchasing a second dog to keep your existing dog company.

4. If your dog seems anxious when you are away even for short periods of time, leave the television or a radio on.
5. If your dog becomes stressed because you are moving to a new home, take him to your new home before you move in, if possible, and allow him to investigate the surroundings. Give your dog some treats or play with him in the new home so he will associate something positive with the experience.
6. If the appearance of a new baby or new spouse in your home is making your dog anxious, try to keep things as normal as possible. Stick to your dog’s regular schedule and give him plenty of attention.
7. If your dog grieves due to the loss of an animal companion, give him plenty of love and affection. After some time passes, consider a new animal playmate.

Dog Home Remedies- How to kill Fleas with Dawn or Salt or Lysol

Dawn. To kill fleas in carpeting, pour one tablespoon Dawn Dishwashing Liquid into a sixteen-ounce trigger-spray bottle. Fill the rest of the bottle with water, shake well, and spray the carpet, upholstery and the floors. The soap dries up the insects, killing them almost instntly. After fifteen minutes, wipe the floors with a damp towel and vacum the carpet. Lysol. Spray the carpet and upholstery with Lysol disinfectant spray. The antiseptic kills fleas. Repeat the following day to kill any newly hatched fleas………………………………………………….. Morton Salt. Sprinkle Morton Salt on carpets, let sit for at least three hours and vacum throughly. Strange facts: An adult female flea can lay one egg every hour during its 3-month life span. The common flea measures one-eighth inch in lenght and can jump up to thirteen inches. Proportionally, that’s the equivalent of a human jumping seven hundred feet.

Home Remedy Cure for the Manage for your Dog

The best cure for dog mange is to mix a 1% hydrogen peroxide solution with water and add borax.Dissolve thoroughly. Wash the dog with it once a week. Do Not Wash the solution left on the dog with ANY WATER. Do not wipe the dog dry. The solution will take effect on mange. The treatment period should not be longer than a month or two. The dog will probably not be resistant as the treatment is painless. This has worked well on dogs I have tried it on. A definitive recipe is add 1-2 tablespoon of borax per 500 cc of 1% hydrogen peroxide solution. plus two parts of water. Then apply them on the dog. Wash with this solution daily, no rinsing. If it doesn’t go away, I have found mites, or mange to have a large beehive hidden somewhere. In case, quarantine the dog in a small area that is sterile. The borax will destroy the eggs from laying under the skin which causes the mange. Get some solution and spray or use this to wipe all floors so the dog will not get re infected. Repeat this every week when bathing. The solution should be applied after you shampoo and rinse your dog. . You cannot rinse the dog of borax and peroxide solution with any shampoo or water. After bathing the dog, keep the dog that way no drying no rinsing. Keep in mind Borax is added directly to the1% hydrogen peroxide solution and no water is added separately, otherwise the solution is too weak. If the mange returns then see your Vet. Please be sure to give a small donation to help buy food and give shelter to these stray dogs who have no home and I have taken in and care for them to give them a better life then they had before. Back in July, we looked at how often Bing users clicked on ads when compared to Google and Yahoo! users. Bing users showed a 50% higher ad click rate than Googlers, so at the time our preliminary conclusion was that Bing’s success was being driven in a big part by Microsoft’s huge, expensive advertising blitz.

Now that December is upon us, and Bing keeps showing its ability to push Google from a technology standpoint, we decided to revisit and see how the numbers were looking. As it turns out, Bing users are still clicking on ads at a prodigious rate – in fact, the CTR of users who come to the Chitika network via Bing is over 75% higher than those who come from Google.

Now, it must be mentioned that Bing is still a distant third place in terms of traffic sent – Google dominates with 84% of search traffic, followed by Yahoo! at 7.40%, and Bing holding at 5.75% (AOL and Ask both have just over 1% of search traffic coming into the Chitika network). However, all things being considered the same, driving one Bing user (or AOL or Ask user) to your site can be more valuable than driving one Google user.

Twas the night before Christmas

when all thru the house

Not a creature was stirring

not even a mouse.

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care

In hopes that St. Nick soon would be there.

The children all nestled snug in their beds

With no thought of the dog filling their head.

And mom in her kerchief and I in my cap

Knew the dog was cold, but didn’t care about that.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash

Figuring the dog was free of his chain and into the trash.

The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow

gave the luster of mid-day to objects below.

When what to my wondering eyes should appear

But Santa Clause with his eyes full of tears.

He unchained the dog once so lively and quick

Last year’s Christmas present now painfully sick.

More rapid than eagles he called the dog’s name

and the dog ran to him despite all his pain.

Its Sad and Disgusting to be Forgotten

Today Im going to open my heart up to you all and hope you will have understanding and compassion.. I just read an article posted at 30something and searching. today.com the title was titled Disgusted and it was about this grandmothers 90th Birthday and she has a brother who has never bothered to send her a Birthday card. So of course the rest of her family were disgusted about it. So of course I left a comment and wished her a Happy Birthday even tho she does not know me I still wanted her to know that this stranger cares and does understand and that I hope she lives to see her next birthday. As for that person Im also disgusted with that lowlife . Gosh just a few minutes of time to send a card to show he cares is all it takes. I know it hurts her to be forgotten by him but she should not miss him with all the love that the rest of her family showers on her.... You all just continue to love her and show her you care and hopefully this will make up for her disappointment. One day tho he will come around but by then it will be to late and believe me he will never be able to forgive himself and he will realize the wonderful lady he missed sharing his time with. I know exactly how she feels for Im in the same situation with my daughter and it does hurt to be forgotten by your own flesh and blood . I try not to think about it but its always there in the back of my heart...No cards on my birthday, no calls, no nothing and I even still took it upon myself to write and ask her for help because I have a spine disease called scoliousous my spine is crooked and I walk sort of hunchback going like sideways and eventually I will no longer be able to use my legs so I told her about my poor health and how blogging makes me feel Im doing some good to help care and feed and shelter these stray dogs I take in my small shelter . I told her I blog for donations because I love animals and they cannot help themselves and they need me, but my computer is breaking down on me and I need to get another one prefer a laptop so I can lay down and prop up with pillows because it hurts my back when I sit blogging for a period of time. The pain is to much for me.,and propped up on pillows I can still do my blogging I told her it did not even have to be a new one for her to share her good fortune and send me money to get a laptop or just mail me one. What Happpen as always she ignored my letters. I was desperate and this is why I wrote to her because I thought after so many years when she ws already grown Id sent her money when she was in need so I thought being this was the first time I asked her for help to get a laptop computer to do what I enjoy she would help out. I was disappointed and cried my eyes out when she did not even bother to answer. But I shall not give up I shall ask for donations on my blogs and explain to my readers and maybe some of them will go to http://dogcents.blogspot.com and donate what they can so I can get that laptop to continue to fight to save the dogs. Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no

kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for

though I might lick your hand between blows,

your patience and understanding will more

quickly teach me the things you would have

me learn. Speak to me often, for your voice

is the world's sweetest music, as you must

know by the fierce wagging of my tail when

your footsteps fall upon my waiting ear.

Please take me inside when it is cold and

wet, for I am a domesticated animal, no

longer accustomed to bitter elements.

I ask no greater glory than the privilege of

sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Keep

my pan filled with fresh water, for I cannot

tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me

clean food that I may stay well, to romp

and play and do your bidding, to walk by your

side, and stand ready, willing and able to

protect you with my life, should your life

be in danger. And, my friend, when I am

very old, and I no longer enjoy good health,

hearing and sight, do not make heroic efforts

to keep me going. I am not having any fun.

Please see that my trusting life is taken

Is it Bad to Feed Your Dog Table Scraps?

A dog could really bank on table scraps around 20 years ago, but with the food nowadays you loose both quality and quantity, and the amount of scraps has declined. Most meats come already precut, trimmed and packaged in its package and ready to be cooked without much alterations. Milk comes from cartons now and poultry comes from prepackaged cartons. Now, most foods come prepackaged in small convenient quantities so it can be adjusted for family portions.

Nothing is more adorable than seeing a small child and a loving puppy playing happily together. What's even better to know, is that psychological studies have proven that people who are fortunate enough to grow up with a dog in the family household tend to have happier childhoods.

Kids who grow up with a family dog learn respect for other creatures as well as caring for them. These kids learn empathy, sympathy, handling responsibilities. They also develop self-confidence and self-esteem by knowing they are contributing to taking care of a living creature.

You Must Help

These benefits and learning experiences between children and their pets do not occur automatically. It takes a responsible and patient adult to properly introduce the child to the new puppy and teach him/her how to properly interact with this new member of the family.

At the same time, the puppy needs to learn respect and obey the child the same way as he respects and obeys the other members of the household. This way, every member of the family can have a loving and healthy relationship.

The manner in which you approach your puppy and the experiences that you give him from his very first minute in the house will create a lasting impact throughout his entire life. From the first introduction, your child should learn the proper way to treat the puppy. Your child should realize that the puppy is a baby, and in many ways should be treated like one.

Avoiding Injuries To The Puppy & Your Child

Children around the age of 7 years and younger have the tendency to get excited when faced with new situations and experiences. This excitement may not be ideal when it comes to meeting a new puppy, or a dog of any age for that matter.

Excited behaviours such as making loud noises, chasing after the puppy, pulling at him, and other aggressive behaviours will result in the puppy getting scared.

In this situation, the puppy will more likely run away instead of letting the child pet him. A very young puppy will try to find his mum and hide under her, while a puppy around 12 weeks old will perceive these behaviours as either a threat or an aggressive play and will most likely react by nipping or jumping up.

The proper way of introducing your new pet to your child is through restraint and guidance. Your child should realise that the puppy is a baby and that your child should be gentle when handling him. To better teach your young ones how to be gentle, use a stuffed animal and teach her how to pet it properly. Practice this with your child for a few days before the puppy arrives home.

Fat Dog could not scratch his own Ears

A dog that was so fat he could not scratch his own ears has shed a third of his body weight after being confiscated from his previous owner.

Fat Bob, thought to have been the heaviest dog in Scotland at 64kg, has been re-homed and put on a strict diet and exercise regime.

Owner, Ralph Dryden from Motherwell, was convicted of causing unnecessary suffering by over-feeding him.

The four-year-old black Labrador has been adopted by a family from Paisley.

The dog piled on the pounds due to a diet of fish suppers and four tins of dog food a day.

He was removed from his previous owner in January after a vet examined him and found him to be "dangerously obese".

At a hearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court, Dryden was convicted of causing the animal unnecessary suffering.

Sentence was deferred for six months for good behaviour.

Since being re-homed in March, Bob has slimmed down to a lean 41kg thanks to a strict diet and six-mile walks.

New owner Paul McShane said: "Bob had to be lifted into the car when we first got him, he couldn't even walk the distance from the car to the front door of the house.

"He also couldn't climb onto a bed or be trusted on the stairs.

"I was told on some occasions Bob was getting fed four big tins of dog food as well as a fish supper a day."

He added: "We have been very careful with his diet and have managed to get his weight under control.

"The difference in him is amazing, he has got a spring back in his step."

During the court hearing Dryden claimed the dog was a stray and was already fat when he took it in off the street.

Fiona Greig, from the Scottish SPCA, said: "Sometimes through an owner's ignorance animals can suffer and that's exactly what happened with Bob.

"This was a case of extreme over-feeding, to the point that the vet who examined Bob stated that he was dangerously obese and being caused unnecessary suffering as a result.

"On the positive side, Bob has now been re-homed with a family who are maintaining his diet."

Happy trick or treating!

This costume sure has taken a beating...

Help me! My mask keeps on slipping,

I am a monster who now has trouble seeing...

Look! That yard has ten black cats in it

That have suffered a treeing.

My little sister just got sick,

I told her that raw pumpkins were not for eating!

My stupid cousin jumped over a fire in his ghost costume,

The whole neighborhood heard him screaming!

We put him out, no burns but, his tears are still streaming.

Grandma tried to pass out pumpkin pie for treats...

Now, her yard is toilet papered and gleaming.

My Uncle handed out money,

I have never seen so many kids trick or treat repeating.

That kid that dressed up as Tarzan

is now freezing!

Is really mean!

I have to go hide all of my candy now,

So my brother won't eat it.

We finally ran out of candy to give out to

All of the trick or treaters that we have been greeting.

I have a stomach ache from eating

More candy than I have ever seen.

Four kids are now hiding under my bed,

Convinced that the wind howling through the trees is a ghost squealing.

One child refused to leave the house, thinking

The lit pumpkin outside will be following...

This is one night

That I won't have any trouble sleeping...........
