HTML (Hyper-Text Markup Language) is the building blocks of websites. HTML is a language which your browser understands and displays pages. This is the first thing you should be learning. With HTML you will be able to make some simple web pages. My favourite HTML tutorials are at:

There is new HTML and old HTML. In old HTML, all the text styles would be defined within <>. E.g: <b> I’m Bold </b>. However, this is quite tedious in most circumstances. Suppose you are mking are 50 page website and you would be needing some bold text in each page, it is quite time-consuming to type it. Bold syntax is easy,but what if you had to change font color, type, size, etc? And if later you want to change the font type, you will have to open and edit all the 50 pages. For this, the people at Brain Trust (kiddin) sat around and though of a solution - CSS. BTW, the new HTML is known as XHTML.

CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) is a similar language which is understood by browsers. But CSS can contain only style definitions i.e how the text is to be displayed and not the text itself. So you must be asking, how the hell does CSS save time Feroze ? CSS files are ussually linked to html files with a command <link rel”stylesheet” href=”style.css”>. So you can link all your 50 pages to one style sheet. This way, if you want to change the way a specified text looks on 50 pages, you can just open your CSS file and edit it. Voila! your changes will be reflected in all the pages. I can just keep going on. I have given you links to my favourite CSS tutorials, give it a go :

I suggest you start learning these two languages from today onwards. You can do it along with writing articles or however you are earning your first dollars. Remember, you have to jump head on. You cannot sit and simply watch, read and study these two. open your notepad and browser and type all codes yourself instead of just copying it from the tutorial site.

Basically, once you get your first $50 from the techniques in “First Dollars”, you can start making websites, freelancing, etc by which you are likely to make money faster. You can ofcourse, also be using the First Dollars technique.

To make websites, freelance, etc, you will require certain skills like thorough knowledge of XHTML, CSS, average understanding of PHP, Javascript, Photoshop. You will also be required to learn about CMS like Joomla and Wordpress and how to operate them. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, chill, I’ll be explaining all this in detail under this section.

Webmasters create forums. Forums are websites to facilitate discussion. At first, there will be few users and not many people would be talking or posting. So the webmasters will hire forum posters to start some discussion, get new members, etc. I have given an example of how most forums look.

You can find forum posting jobs at Digital Point under the “Content Creation” section (Click here). There would be a post written something like “[WTH] Forum poster for Halu Baleu”. There is likely to be quite a few jobs anytime.

There will be a small range of forums related to topics to choose from. I suggest that you choose a job whose topic interests you, and you know a lot about it. Usually the rate will be fixed, around $0.15 per post. You can just reply there and hopefully, you will get the job. Sometimes, if the rate is not given and the client asks you to quote your price, I suggest you ask for around $0.13 per post and you can later increase your price if the client is happy with your posts.

If you get a topic you are interested in, as recommended, you are likely to enjoy posting on the forum. So you will never feel it as a work or chore, you can just do it as a hobby and you get paid :).It would be like chatting with your buddy, and you would get paid for it.

I would be more than happy to clarify any of your questions.

Webmasters need fresh and ORIGINAL content and articles for their website. If they copied articles, no one would come to their site. Also, they wouldn’t been shown in Google search results, which is very bad and harmful for them. Many wouldn’t have the time to sit and write articles. So they hire people to write articles for them.

All you would need for this is a decent text editor (like MS Word), a good spell and grammatical error checker (inbuilt in MS Word) and lots of motivation.

You will first have to hunt around for jobs. I suggest you can start off at Digital Point forums. Go to the “Buy, Sell or Trade” section -> Click on “Services” link -> Go to the “Content Creation ” section (Click here).

You can find many people looking to hire [WTH] article writers.They will also list the topics for the articles in the post. Make sure that you have some knowledge or interest in that subject. For eg: If you have no idea about finance and you love sports, don’t apply for a finance article writing job. The article would turn out quite bad and you might not get paid. Try to apply for jobs whose topics interest you.

You can send him a reply, quoting your rate. Usually, the rate is quoted per 100 words. At the beginning, I strongly recommend that you do 2-3 jobs at 80 cents for 100 words. Try to write the best articles. This can earn you a good reputation and some iTrader’s. Then you an start charging $1 per 100 words. If people feel you write great articles and you get a great reputation, you can slowly increase your price. You could start earning $2 per 100 words in a matter of a few weeks.

Most sites also have a system to measure reputation. They give something like points are show offers completed. In Digital Point, this system is known as the iTrader system. As your iTrader grows, people expect you to be reputable. I also encourage you to get hired by people who have a good reputation, and have been there for a long time. This way, the risk of the client running off with your article without paying will be minimal.

So now, you have posted your offer to do the job. You can apply for 2-3 more jobs as it isn’t 100% sure that you will land every job. Hopefully, you will find a job within a day.

Now that you have got the job, lets get writing. You do not need to write the article fully. You don’t have to write it from scratch. Google the topic, and find some information about the article. Copy it on to MS word. Now you would have content from 2-3 sites. Edit and merge the data into a nice article. Lets say a few paragraphs. Now you have to  change words everywhere. Also change the tense, bring words in front, take some back, etc. The whole point is to create a article which looks original. The webmasters need content which is like original because, if they just copy and paste content, no one will come to their site.

Its quite simple to check if your article is deemed original but dumb computers - Head to PlagiarismDetect.com and ArticleChecker.com and submit your articles there. It will tel you if ay of the content LOOKS copied. It will display phrases of the copied sentence. Go to the sentence and rearrange the words, and change a few. And resubmit it. Hurray! Your article is DEEMED original.

Now you can send the finished article to your client. If he finds it satisfactory, he will send you the payment via PayPal. You need to send him your PayPal ID i.e. the email ID (hopefully your professional Gmail account) to him. You will then recieve the payment through Paypal. Hurray! You have made your first dollars online :D.

Now, if he liked your articles, he is likely to send you more to write. Just repeat the above steps and you can start making around $10-25 daily. Now, thats SOME money. You can also apply for more jobs, write more and make MORE.

I also suggest you sign up at Elance.com and find some jobs there.

Another modification to this is writing and selling articles in packages. You can also do this if your DP account has not yet got access into “Buy or Sell” Section. Basically, in this method, you write the articles before you find a client. You can write articles on HOT topics such as Travel & Tourism (famous tourist dstinations), Pets (How to maintain a dog/cat),  SEO articles, gaming reviews, etc. You can write around 10 articles of around 500 words each. It will total up to 5000 words. At $1 per 100 words, you can get $50 for it. WAIT! selling the package, however is not guarenteed. You need to write a HOT SELLING article. Check out DP forums -> Buy, Sell or Trade -> Content and have a look at some hot selling topics.

Once you get some topics, follow some of the above steps, create a package and post it in the Content section. Hopefully, someone will come and buy it.

I also suggest that you form a group with your friends (if you are in high school). This way, you will be able to write more and make more. You can all share the money. With cooperation and teamwork, you can write more. If you are from a developing Asian/European/African country, $$ is quite a lot of money. I will also be posting about a varied version of this cooperative method next week.

1. Good Username: This is quite an important aspect. In the Internet, people will know you mostly by your username. Therefore it is essential to coin a good one. I personally suggest that you use your name or something slightly deviated. Try to keep the name formal. Do not have usernames like Dragon Eater, JohnHaX0r,etc. i suggest something like John87,Mr.John, John Smith,etc.

2. An email ID: I advice you to get a new email ID for professional purposes. I suggest you go sign up for a Gmail ID. Try to have your gmail ID same as your Username.

3. A PayPal account: PayPal is the leading online payment gateway. It is the most widely used method to send money over the internet. If you are getting paid by someone for your services, its likely to be through PayPal.

Head to PayPal.com and sign up for a personal account. If you want to get the money you make as hard cash, you’ll have to put the correct details for your name and address. Unless you have a bank account AND you are older than 18 years, it is not allowed to own an account. In this case, you can sign up using a parent’s name. I suggest you make your PayPal account under the parents name who earns lesser (likely to be your mom) as you wouldn’t have to pay a higer tax rate (yes, you HAVE to pay tax on the money you earn online).

4. Digital Point Forums: Digital Point forums is the best place to start earning your cash. This is basically a center for webmaster. You can find a lot of jobs here. Many webmasters want forum posters, article writers, rewriters, etc and you can get the job. This place isn’t the best paying but its a great place to start.

Go to http://forums.digitalpoint.com/ and sign up, preferably with your “professional” username and email ID. Reply to 25 threads so that you can get access to the “Buy and Sell” section. Don’t post spammy stuff. You can go around welcoming people to DP or simply post “thanks for the advice” or something in articles. Post too many in a day and you get banned.

You need to make your Digital Point ID NOW as you should be a member for atleast 2 weeks before you can access the “Buy and Sell” section.

That’s it for now.  You are on your road to make some money. Additionally, I advice you to set up desktop mail with Thunderbird or Outlook as it is convenient accessing your mails from desktop.
