After seeing the trailer of Wolf of Wall Street, i was convinced we could have another winter blockbuster, maybe not so much box office wise, but cult fan following wise – yes.Its been sometime that the ”comedy noire” genre of cinema has been touched upon, and this time by Scorsese, seems promising. With the previous Scorsese – DiCaprio Alliances holding strong at the box office with Aviator ($102 mn), Gangs of New York ($77 mn), The Departed ($132 mn) and Shutter Island ($128 mn), we can predict the domestic total of Wolf of Wall Street should finish at anywhere around the $130-$150 mark. Come Winter, be sure to check out Scorsese’s amalgamation of Wall Street (1987) meets Goodfellas (1990).

DiCaprio

It seems that Leonardo DiCaprio can play the rich and all powerful egotistical character better than anyone else in Hollywood. He was billionaire Howard Hughes in the Aviator, A plantation owner in Django Unchained and most recently Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby. No can look so good while playing a character packed with so much panache, opulence, eccentricity and flair. He was the natural choice to play Belford, or probably looking at him they decided to turn the original book in to a Hollywood mainstream motion picture.

Scorsese

If you films with Scorsese’s touch and want to dive right into his world of creation, you better be prepared to be entertained by his “male muse” DiCaprio with whom this would be the fifth collaboration. Like he did right through the 70s, 80s and 90s with Deniro, and gave us the insanely enjoyable Goodfellas, if you liked that, your’e gonna LOVE this because of the usual suspects- Mafia, Drugs and Money.

Wall Street

Lets face it, all of us are so obsessed with money, how its made and more how its lost. Wall Street- has tonnes of it,not physically of course, but anything that goes down on Wall Street seems exciting, and when its made into a big budget flick,it magnifies the greed ever more. Sure the movie might potray stockbrokers in poor light, but money also forms the basis for the most interesting plot and serves as background violence, crime and sex, essential components of a great movie.

You can expect Samsung to be a little experimental with their new breed of smartphones more than other players, considering they roll out more smartphones in a quarter compared to other phone manufacturers. Currently the leading producers of all things “touch”, The Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2, with its hardened exterior is ideal for clumsy people who dorp thier phone easily and for others who love underwater photography. This phone is built to withstand shock, wear n tear and can be easily submerged in shallow waters, so that its 5MP camera can snap those sub aqua shots.

Its back panel is riveted to give the battery that extra edge protection, and also comes bundled with a harness to secure it around your wrist so that you can run or dive with it. No official word on the price of the Xcover 2 was mentioned, but a calculated guess could place it within the $200-$250 price range.

Id like to think of Micromax as one of the most ambitious indian smartphone selling entrprises, and would want to see them in the same league as Samsung one day, because we all know, that’s what they aspire to be.

What better way to put them head to head, than to showcase their latest toys- the Galaxy grand that released to the open market in the third week this month, and the Micromax Canvas 3 A116 that is due in the first week of February.

With the release of the Micromax A116 Canvas 3 in the end of February, an upgrade to the A110 Canvas 2, we hope to see some major changes in the new smartphone. After using the A110 for a month now, and comparing initial specifications between the A110 and A116
here is a list of grouses:

Hangs and Crashes- The A110 has a measely 512 MB ram which is extremely low for running high end apps and even mediocre graphic games. Without rooting and tapping into the core processing power of the device, many games either do not startup, or crashed after playing them for sometime. This can get frustrating, and for a phone that sports a dual core processor and a 5 inch screen, 1GB is the bare minimum.

Power-Even though the Battery has an supply of 2000mAH, playing a HD game brings the battery down to less than 20% very soon. I tried this with Deadspace and within a matter of 1.5 hour, the battery was at 50%.The A116 promises to have a slightly more powerful battery of 2100mAH, that we hope will give us a better power performance.

Internal Memory-Its unfair to compare the Micromax smartphones with those of the bigger international brands, but putting it bluntly,2GB of user memory is “miserly” to say the least. Even though 4GB of internal memory is given, 2GB can be used for the storage of media files etc. The other 2GB is reserved for Apps and system data. One may argue that there is a 32GB SD storage in the external memory slot, retrieving and transferring data to and fro into that memory module is still slower than the accessing the internal memory.

There have been other instances observed by users about call drops and poor image quality of the 8MP camera, but that seemed satisfactory to us.

Mircromax seems to be following on the footsteps of Samsung, the industry leader in smartphones, by releasing in quick succession a new variant in its falgship phone the “Canvas”. similar to the Samsung line of the “Galaxy” phones, the Canvas 3, also known as the Micromax A116 is the third edition in the canvas line to enter the market in the first week of February 2013.

So what has the canvas 3 changed from the canvas 2, lets have a look in terms of specifications:

On the whole, the look and feel of the A116 is almost exactly the same as the A110 on the outside. Internally, one of the best improvements is the 1GB ram that is still less for a 5 inch screen that runs a quad core processor.Along with the improvement in the processing power, one aspect of this new smartphone that has not been updated is the internal memory that is stil lstuck at 4Gb, out of which 2 GB is kept for storage of apps and only 2 GB available for user storage.

In 2012, we saw more than twice as many smartphones being sold as compared to handheld computing devices and laptops. The trend has slowly shifted from computers to verstaile “phablets” that can let you run virtually endless applications and manage every aspect of your everyday, right from your pocket. Smartphones in my opinion are the way of the future, and alsmot every detail of our everyday lives from switching on a light or remotely accessing your laundry will be done from your smartphone. For all the enterpriseing folks reading now, this is the business you HAVE to be in, read on to know how to get about getting into it, without burning a billion dollars.

PHABLET VS LAPTOP

Anyone who has used an android or Ios mobile phone knows how easy it is to operate and the touch only makes using it a fun experience.Mobile phones with a screen size of more than 5 inches are often called “phablets” as they come closer to being used as tablets, but with phone functionality too. Most big brand mobile phone manufacturers like Samsung and Apple are slowly moving towards offering larger screens with each newer model introduced. Its almost certain that touch is the technology of future and physical keyboards used in laptops are on its way out. In most aspects of display, computing power, and program memory, phablets are bridging the gap, with most smartphones using Dual Core technology . The only thing still lagging behind and still hasn’t caught up in smartphones is physical memory that still averages at 16 GB compared to a whopping 1 TB in laptop computers.

HANDSET SOURCING

Just as the bug guys do it, we can source ready handsets from Taiwan and China through online wholesellers. The difference between big corporations like Smasung, Apple and small independent players like yourself, will be that you will source the handsets from third party manufacturers whereas they have their own manufacturing plant in China, and only source labour and raw materials.

The prices of OEM smartphones vary from $75 to $200, depending on the screen size,RAM, processor and camera. There are literally thousansds of merchants and agents from who you can get a sample handset before you give a bulk order. In addition to the price of the phone, you also have to incorporate import customs, duties and freight costs.Even with all these basic overheads, you could stand to make a profit of about 40%-50% on each handset.

This is a jist of how any individual with just a budget of less than $100,000 can begin the first steps t becoming a mobile phone business magnate.
