Sign Language Summer Class for 2010 in Quezon City Philippines

The Ascension of Our Lord Parish Church, Lagro, Quezon City is now offering Basic Sign Language summer class for year 2010.

The Basic Sign Language Course is a three-month course which has 12 sessions. Each session, held every Sunday, runs from 1:00-5:00 p.m. (4 hours) with a total of 48 class hours. Part of the course is another 24 hours of exposure that will be required from each of the students which they will earn during church visits.

For year 2010, classes will start on March 7, 2010. Visit Ascencion of Our Lord Parish Church every Sunday mass for the deaf in Lagro, Quezon City at 10am so you can see the actual signing of our graduate students and teachers.

Classes will be held in the 4th floor of the Parish Bldg. every Sunday from 1pm to 5pm starting on March 7, 2010.

OBJECTIVEs of the BASIC SIGN LANGUAGE COURSE:

At the end of the course, the trainees are expected to:

1. Master the alphabet (A-Z) and be able to fingerspell words associating them with numbers and sentences

2. Sign vocabularies and sentences using the proper principles and guidelines in signing effectively

3. Sign songs and prayers expressively

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

1. Attendance: at least 40 hours, 10 sessions (absences of not more than 2 sessions)

2. Pass the Comprehensive Written and Oral / Practical examinations.

3. At least 24 hours of interaction/exposure with the deaf individuals during signed mass and meetings and other activities that may be suggested.

Basic Sign Language Class in Quezon City

I’m so happy to graduate from Basic Sign Language Class this summer 2009. I have an additional achievement this year. It started only when we heard from the church mass in Lagro, Quezon City that a Sign Language Class was being offered. So me and my mom went ahead and never missed a lesson.

The Hands For Praise Community of the Ascension of Our Lord Parish in Lagro Quezon City is accredited by PRID (Phil. Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc.) At the end of 13 weeks I know now to how to spell, construct simple sentences, interpret songs and communicate with the Hearing Impaired, and even sign during Masses!

The classes were held in the 4th Flr. Seminar Hall of the Parish in Lagro, Quezon City. The class was from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM, for 12 Sundays. And there’s no age limit, I have classmates from 8 years old to 58 years old. Some were SPED teachers, waiters, accountants, nurses, college and elementary students. They accept everybody who likes to learn the language of signs. And the fee is only cheap, its worth it.

In Deaf culture and sign language, a sign name is a special sign that is used to uniquely identify a person, just like a name. There are some special rules around sign names; for example, they must be given to you by a Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing person. This ensures that no one else in the community already has the same sign name, or that the same sign does not have a different meaning.

Like other classes, we also had our written exams. The questions were about the goals of PRID, the causes of deafness, diseases, and medicines that affects the hearing of a person, guidelines of finger spelling and the code of ethics.

We had our one whole day exposure with the deaf community. We had games, program, and swimming. We played with the deaf, dance with them and just had one whole day of fun using the sign language we learned.

Before we graduate, we had to undergo an evaluation test from the people in PRID ( Philippine Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc.). Each of us had her song interpretation in sign language.

After 12 Sundays, finally we have our graduation day. It was a unique program because our audience were the deaf community, parents and friends. So every number in the program was done in sign language.

Xmarks Review

I found a new tool for my internet surfing, its called Xmarks.

Xmarks is a plugin from Firefox used to manage bookmarks on web.
I like saving websites that interests me. And since I’m always on the go, this tool really helped me because it copies all my saved websites in one record.

When my personal laptop crashes, I was able to check the bookmarked website that I was looking for even if I login in my son’s computer.

I am happy with Xmarks. You just have to create your account here. And no more worries in saving bookmarks in different computer.

Modelizta Talent Workshop

This summer 2009, my niece joined a talent workshop to enhance her singing and acting talent.

We were happy to attend her recital in Metro Bar in Quezon City. She sang the new song of Miley Cyrus which is “The Climb”. It was a night of fun for the kids from ages 5- 16 years old. I enjoyed watching the kids do their modeling show, acting, singing and dancing numbers.

This was organized by Pinapangarap Ka Foundation located in Commonwealth Ave. Quezon City.
You may call them at 473-3578. I heard that they are doing saturday classes for the next quarter. Its only cheap around 1,500 pesos for 10 saturdays. So if I would have a choice, I like to be a child again and be on the modelling show, hehehe!

Computer Technician in Quezon City

I am supposed to write a positive comment in Sulit.com but they have a rule that its not allowed to make comments if 2 sulit members are in the same area. I think its unfair if the member made quality service and he likes to be rated by other members who happens to be in the same city.

Anyway, let me share you how I found my computer technician. His name is Randy from Quezon City, (Philippines)

Two months ago, I had a problem with my son’s computer, and I just browse in the internet for a computer technician in Quezpn City area. I found 2-3 names in the listings of sulit.com, I texted all these 3 names, and only one responded, it was Randy. Right away, I made an appointment for a home service of computer repair. I was expecting a big man with all his gadgets and tools. But came Randy, a small, simple guy with a backpack. He is soft-spoken and works quietly.

I’m happy with Randy’s computer technical services, he had already checked my laptop and my sons’ computers motherboard, installed softwares, solved the missing drivers, audio problems, and he is really trustworthy. I even asked him to pick up my laptop in HP Makati with a big cash amount for the claim.

Whenever I have problems about my computer and my wireless home network, Randy is just a text away. He looks slim and simple guy, but he is smart and can be trusted.

Now I consider him as my personal computer technician. I’m happy to give him additional tips because I’m contented with his computer services. To those living in Quezon City, I recommend Randy as a computer technician.
