SnapNames Daily Update : The Sharks Begin To Circle

It didn’t take long for the sharks to begin circling. It’s come to our attention that class action attorneys already smelling blood in the water have begun investigating the possibility of a class-action case against SnapNames. Blim &amp Edelson, Chicago based class-action attorneys, have put up a website to gather up possible plaintiff names and investigate the case.

To be clear the site states :
The listing of a company is not meant to state or imply that it committed any illegal or improper act; rather only that an investigation is or was being conducted by private attorneys to determine whether legal rights have been violated.

Edelson has recently taken on Facebook, Match.com, Lycos, and a number of other internet companies.

The site further reads :

If you purchased a domain name through SnapNames since 2005, you may be entitled to recover money. Contact an attorney today!

Also, typical of the domainer crowd, both SnapNamesClassAction.com and OverseeClassAction.com have been registered. Too bad Edelson doesn’t have an affiliate program.

eBay’s latest online destination is a vibrant magazine style blog dubbed The Inside Source which features just that, eBay insiders observing and reporting timely trends from the world’s largest marketplace.

If you are a trendhunter or a member of the eBay Partner Network this could turn out to be one of your favorite new blogs.

Imagine the search data! eBay has 88 million users, 25 million of those are sellers who are posting 200 million live product listings and turning out several million sales daily. From this can be derived global e-commerce trends that only eBay can offer.

SnapNames to Bring Back Historical Bid Information

An update for the developing Snapnames story:

According to a post on NamePros from Rob, an employee of Oversee.net’s support, Snapnames will restate all bidding history in their interface. The information had been truncated before and thus was only showing auctions up to November 2007.

There’s been a lot happening today and I wanted to give the forum an update. I’m posting here and on some other boards to reach as many clients as possible.

There’s been quite a bit of back-and-forth here and other places about access to SnapNames bidding and order history. The truncated system, which limits view to the 24 months prior to whatever date the lookup is being performed, has been in place for the past four years, since June 2005. This was not changed recently or in response to the recent announcement.

That aside, to make sure no one thinks there’s an attempt to shield data, our technical staff is adjusting the existing system so order and bid histories are available back to August 2004, when SnapNames instituted the auction platform. We are working on that change now.

I’ll post more when I know more.
